Walk America to be held April 30th, 2005 in Portland, Oregon

Walkathon to help research and educate about premature babies.

(PRWEB) January 31, 2005

1 in every 8 babies in the U. S. is born too soon. That is just over 1,300 babies a day. On November 6th, 2002 at 2:12 and 2:13 am, my twin boys became part of those statistics. They arrived at 33 weeks gestation, seven full weeks earlier than intended.

On April 30th, 2005, in honor of my twin boys and all premature babies past, present and future - I will be walking for the March of Dimes. Every year in select cities, the March of Dimes puts on Walk America. This is a walkathon to raise funds for research of prematurity and to help educate pregnant women.

You can go to http://www. walkamerica. org (http://www. walkamerica. org) and register as a walker for free. It's not even required that anyone walk in order to raise funds. They provide you with a free personal fundraising page, where friends and family can donate via credit card, check, or send cash. Donations are 100% tax deductible.

My boys were born prematurely and the cause was nothing anyone could have prevented. After weeks of hospitalization, and trying to keep the babies in utero for as long as possible, it was just inevitable that complications would draw the pregnancy to an end before we wanted. Though my children are happy and healthy two year olds now, my husband and I were quite lucky and we know that.

Please help me spread the word about this wonderful cause. If you sign up, make a goal for yourself as to how much you want to raise. My current goal is $1,000 and I am one quarter of the way there. If you can't walk, donate to a walker and help them reach their goal. Remember, even one dollar goes a long way in helping provide education and research for this worthy cause.
