Raleigh, NC (PRWEB) June 9, 2005

Project Life Boat, a joint campaign between the Triangle Community Foundation and Charities Aid Foundation-India, has raised more than $200,000, which will be used to provide at least 50 fishing boats to aide 150 families affected by the Tsunami on the shores of India.

“We are happy to announce that we have successfully met our goal of raising $200,000,” said Neal Hunter of CREE Inc. and Honorary Project Life Boat Committee Member. “One hundred percent of the proceeds will go to the cause and the funds will be dedicated to specific rebuilding efforts for those fishing families on the southern shores of India who lost their livelihood in the Tsunami disaster.”

More than 220 individuals and businesses donated to the cause with donations coming from kindergartners in Durham to millionaires in Raleigh.

“Though we have met our projected goal, Project Life Boat will still be pleased to accept donations to aide victims of the Tsunami,” said Jim Cain of Kilpatrick Stockton and a Honorary Project Life Boat Committee Member. “Every $4000 raised will help build and equip a fishing boat— your family, company church or civic group can raise funds for one or more boats— or your gifts will be combined with others,”

Priya Viswanath, President of Charities Aid Foundation-India says the work of individuals and businesses in the Raleigh-Durham area, is going to make a big impact on the fishermen’s lives “Their income levels will almost triple,” Viswanath said.

The boat distribution is scheduled for June 11th and 12th and July 1st.

John McConnell, CEO of A4 Health Systems; Neal Hunter, former Chairman of CREE Inc.; Larry Robbins, partner at Wyrick Robbins Yates & Ponton; Scott Custer, CEO of RBC Centura; Jim Cain, partner at Kilpatrick Stockton of Raleigh; and Dr. Steve Bolick, owner of Eye Care Associates comprise the Honorary Project Life Boat Committee.
