Domestic Adoption "Baby Boom" - Exploiting Women and Families in America

Domestic Adoption "Baby Boom" - Exploiting Women and Families in America

The announcement of a domestic adoption "baby boom" has undoubtedly brought hope to people wanting to adopt an infant. But this announcement begs the question: Where are these babies coming from? Is there a systemic issue to be addressed?

Marion, IA (PRWEB) June 9, 2004

The recent headlines must give hope to people who want to adopt a baby: "Local adoption agency has rare openings" and "Catholic Charities expands its adoption program". The first article describes a domestic adoption "baby boom"; the second article announces an expansion in a domestic adoption program. But by announcing domestic adoption "baby booms" these agencies might as well be announcing their role in the exploitation of United States citizens.

Not only do mothers who lose children to adoption have life-long problems so severe that some commit suicide as a result, but there is also a higher rate of suicide, childlessness, divorce, alcoholism, and other addictions among adoptees than the norm in society.

Those who profit from adoption blame the adoptees' problems on genetics. If genetics is the cause, the collection of statistical data might clear up any doubt. In the many cases where mothers married their adopted-out child's father and had other children, it could be determined what percentage of the kept children experienced the same problems as the adopted-out ones.

According to statistics compiled on adoption. com the mothers who lose babies to adoption "often come from higher socioeconomic backgrounds. These women come from intact families." (Stolley, 1993) These mothers and their families are more likely to be naïve than to be genetically defective. Told "everyone benefits" from adoption and in the absence of any real information, they may think it's true. In poorer families, younger "adoptable" children and babies are systematically taken under the guise of child protection. The poverty frequently follows divorce or is related to medical problems of some family member. Most of the mothers have jobs. And although the people who know these moms may see a caring, wonderful, competent individual from the perspective of the government they are only a source of babies for adoption.

The fact that adoptees and natural mothers frequently have serious problems due to separation is well known to experts.

In a paper entitled "CHALLENGING THE SILENCE OF THE MENTAL HEALTH COMMUNITY ON ADOPTION ISSUES" published in the Journal of Social Distress and the Homeless, Vol. II, No. 2. April 2002, Douglas B. Henderson (University of Wisconsin, Professor Emeritus, Department of Psychology) discusses some of the reasons for the experts silence on the issue: Professionals not wanting to admit to failure, the money to be made in adoption, and an unwillingness on the part of adoptees to appear ungrateful to their adopters are a few.

He explains the techniques used by the National Council For Adoption, which represents the agencies that profit from adoption, to silence others: "...the NCFA has attempted to marginalize and pathologize anyone who reports that adoption experiences are problematic. Setting themselves up as the national experts on adoption, while actually representing not the adoptees and (natural) parents who have lived adoption but rather the agencies making money on adoptions, the NCFA has long accused anyone who criticized adoption practices as being 'antiadoption.'"

With all that is known by experts about the ill effects of separating family and of the secrecy in adoption, it remains that adoption is a very lucrative business. Thanks to lobbying efforts we now have government funding for Infant Adoption Awareness training, maternity homes, adoption counseling, subsidies and other aid for adopters, and so-called "safe havens" where a frightened mother unsure of how to get real help may leave her newborn son or daughter. In some states there are adoption aid "Choose Life" license plates, with proceeds going toward advertising and adoption services.

Those in the health professions can become an "Adoption Specialist" after a free three-day training program. There is no requirement that this training inform trainees of the life-long emotional consequences of surrender/adoption to mother, child or other family members.

By implementing the Adoption University@ curriculum in schools both mother and father may be influenced to "choose" adoption before they are even expecting. All risks are hidden and the implementation of this training in a group setting makes it possible for an opposing viewpoint to be squelched by the group.

The joy and pride of parents and grandparents who have maintained hope, worked through their issues and kept their children is very evident. But with all the adoption training now implemented, a pregnant mother is likely to encounter teachers, doctors, nurses, counselors and others who will not mention the joys of motherhood, but instead will pressure her to surrender all parental rights and will speak of surrender in glowing terms to her parents as well. Her baby's father is unlikely to support her when adoption has been presented as "better" than taking responsibility for his own child.

A young pregnant mother or her parents may be lured by a "dorm" with "park-like setting", "beautiful swimming pool" and "cozy fireplace". Separated from family and society to aid in "decision-making" and repeatedly hearing "It's your choice" the mothers will leave this maternity home still bleeding from childbirth saying "It was my choice". With their thoughts constrained by the carefully chosen phrases provided by the adoption industry, it'll be years before they comprehend that in the their best interest and the best interest of their child the risks of adoption should have been disclosed and the choice to keep children they give birth to should have been promoted.

Other coercive tactics used to obtain babies include having prospective adopters chosen in advance and even present at the birth (and we wouldn't want to disappoint them, would we?).

The cruelest tactic used to obtain a baby is the use of the open adoption "carrot", the promise to a mother or family of continuing contact with their child. Many parents don't know that the adoption may be closed at any time without their consent. Frequently, the adoption is closed immediately; the promise of openness made only to lure them in. For the natural family, it's devastating.

From the industry standpoint, open adoption has a clear advantage: Mothers whose children were adopted-out know that for speaking out honestly about the effects of adoption on themselves, their child and the rest of their family, the "punishment" will be cutting off all contact with their child. So, as they see their adopted-out children cared for by nannies, treated harshly by male adopters who didn't really want them in the first place, denied access to their siblings or experiencing other problems these mothers keep quiet or even continue to promote adoption. They may have to convince themselves it is "better" or was "meant to be" just to cope.

The intense solicitation to obtain babies now includes offers to pay "expenses" far beyond pregnancy-related costs. These "expenses" include scholarships, car payments, entertainment, house maintenance, credit card payments and personal loans. How does this compare to soliciting to buy children from families off the streets in Cambodia? THAT is considered criminal! After accepting this aid, a mother may be coerced by agencies or lawyers using the lie that she will have to pay all expenses back if she decides to keep her child. Not surprisingly, there is adopters insurance to protect the adopters.

New tactics to obtain babies are being developed all the time. Even whole nuclear families may be advised that it is "best" to surrender their new baby if a parent has been laid off temporarily.

In his paper, Douglas B. Henderson concludes: "It is time for the silence of the mental health professions on issues related to adoption to endÂ…. Continuing the silence will serve the interests of no one, and will lead to further difficulties for all those touched by the adoption process."

A domestic adoption "baby boom" should not be a source of pride, but of shame on the part of agencies, medical experts, the government and others for having exploited citizens of our own country, the United States, to obtain babies.

Mike Torchia, Wellness Expert, Leads Fight to Cause a Cultural Shift in Obesity Awareness

Mike Torchia, Wellness Expert, Leads Fight to Cause a Cultural Shift in Obesity Awareness

People are inherently lazy. This is a big problem. People don’t know how and/or have the means to be healthy, lean and fit. Most people are unmotivated and seek out supplements and infomercial gadgets to achieve fast and easy results. Because of access to the Internet, publications and other media, people get information overload. They don’t know what to do with it all. There needs to be created a Cultural Shift in order to have a tipping point of awareness of the severe dangers of obesity in America. It took 30 years for our society to realize the dangers of smoking to make the shift to banning smoking in public places and making the necessary changes to prevent the Tobacco Companies from poisoning us and profiting from it!

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) October 23, 2006

Mike Torchia, wellness expert, has been leading the fight to cause a cultural shift in obesity awareness and is pushing for a change in American society. His research supports the idea that people are inherently lazy, which is a big problem. People don't know how and/or have the means to be healthy, lean and fit. Most people are unmotivated and seek out supplements and infomercial gadgets to achieve fast and easy results. Because of access to the Internet, publications and other media, people get information overload. They don't know what to do with it all.

"There needs to be created a cultural shift in order to have a tipping point of awareness of the severe dangers of obesity in America," Torchia says. "It took 30 years for our society to realize the dangers of smoking to make the shift to banning smoking in public places and making the necessary changes to prevent the Tobacco Companies from poisoning us and profiting from it."

In the 17th and 18th century, obesity was a sign of affluence and success. Now a day, it is a sign of being poor and not having enough money to afford high quality foods. Everything in our lives is connected. It's not just about proper eating habits and exercising, because it doesn't do anyone much good, without having a healthy attitude, we eventually become stressed and lethargic. When all these elements in our lives are in proper proportion, it has the synergistic affect of making life even better. Most people today ignore their weight for as long as possible until their anxiety builds up. Then they take the steps to make a change, they go and buy new sneakers and workout clothes and join a gym. Immediately, their anxiety dissipates. Because just taking the steps in their mind creates a comfort zone. Eventually, the sneakers and the workout clothes go into the back of the closet and the gym membership expires until the anxiety builds up again. Then, the cycle begins again. They buy an infomercial exercise product; weight loss supplement at the nearby vitamin store and their anxiety goes down again. What they need to make is a shift in direction so they're not as anxious and so their bad habits will not take over again because they must fight that emotional factor.

People don't realize the things they do, because they take irrational impulses and make them rational. That's just the way the mind works. We explain it to ourselves, we create excuses to fit our emotions, rethink how it was not as bad to take the sting out of it. So, we write stories in our head to interpret our actions. The mind changes things as it really happened like it really did. It is not a tape recorder; it reformats things to eliminate the bad and negative thoughts. The mind forms scar tissue and covers painful thoughts. A lot of people are self-medicated for many reasons, for whatever they are compensating for.

"We must give people positive structure and they must have psychological help," Torchia says. "The human brain is so complex. It is a neurological organism with billions of brain cells. Humans went from sitting around in the stone age time with fires and hunting for their food with rocks and sticks to now flying to Mars and make highly technological advances. We have brilliant minds, but we also have serial killers. People are fat because they are in an artificial environment. They need to eat less food and get more exercise. Appetite is naturally regulated and being more active and eating real food instead of consuming junk is one of the steps we must take. People can train their body to burn more calories. If a person is put in the circumstances to consume fewer calories and burn more, they will lose weight."

Positive Balance of Calories = Fat

Negative Balance of Calories = Lean Body

When people starve themselves they burn less calories, move slower, get depressed and the body goes into survival mode. The longer someone goes without eating food will create a greater percentage of fat storage. A calorie is a measure of heat. Energy is burnt in the form of oxidation. When a person exercises, they consume oxygen. One must breathe hard when working out. When working out, the body will have the ability to utilize more calories and it creates the need for more nutrients.

When eating carbohydrates or fats the metabolism increases by 10%. When eating protein, the metabolism increases by 30%. A higher pace of cardio must be sustained in less time to burn more calories so the body can be more efficient at consuming oxygen. But people must also realize that too much cardio makes the whole body tired and can affect its ability to function efficiently the next day. There must be specificity of training - meaning a program must be designed to suit the needs and physical capabilities of each person's body. People have to become more conscious of the following:

-Portion Control

-Better Variety of Foods

-Overall diet

-Activity Levels

-Structured Exercise Programs

The human body averages things out over a long period of time. Having a weekly food diary truly works. If people keep track of what they eat, they will succeed, but they must orient everything evenly in order to succeed. If they make a drastic change, it can set them up for failure. The previous modifications must be gradually implemented to one's lifestyle in order to achieve success. We must think of Obesity as a disease just like alcoholism and drug addiction. There is a need for intervention.

Free wellness clinics need to be set up throughout the entire country. People will be able to go there knowing that they can't control their eating. At the clinics, people can develop support systems that can help them change their entire life. The Wellness Centers can give people a vision of what they can be, if they take the proper steps. This will include exercise, diet and lifestyle changes. People must learn how to workout, eat right and avoid/eliminate bad habits such as drinking and smoking, etc. Most diet centers fail because they do not provide all the elements. They provide counselors to give people meal plans, prepared foods, some guidance and occasionally such companies as Weight Watchers will create a support system but they do not include one of the most crucial elements which is proper exercise implementation into their lives.

The morbidly obese need to be in a hospital. They will require psychological evaluation and a structured and monitored program which will include motivational training, nutritional meal planning and exercise programs.

Americans today must make a deliberate decision to achieve a healthier lifestyle in order for the shift to occur.

Remediation biotechnology firm announces winners of its 6th annual student award program.

SAN DIEGO, CA (Vocus) March 30, 2010

The Adventus Group, an international remediation biotechnology enterprise, has rejoined the Association for Environmental Health & Sciences Foundation (AEHS Foundation) to recognize talented, emerging environmental scientists during the “20th Annual International Conference on Soils, Sediments, Water, and Energy” held in San Diego.

Two $500 awards were given for the best student presentations from among the diverse participants
During the conference. This year’s winners were:

Ms. Kimberly Rickman, California State University at Long Beach, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, for her platform presentation on ”Removing Pharmaceuticals from Contaminated Waters using Radical Reactions”.

Mr. Ryoji, Kyoto University, Port and Airport Research Institute, Coastal and Estuarine Environment Research Group, for his poster presentation on “Environmental Fate of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in Sediments of Nagoya Port”.

More details will be posted on the student award “Winner’s Circle” archives, located online at http://www. adventusgroup. com/library/studentawards. shtml (http://www. adventusgroup. com/library/studentawards. shtml)

“A main component of the AEHS Foundation’s mission is to facilitate communication and foster cooperation among professionals concerned with protecting an increasingly fragile environment,” said Dr. Paul Kostecki, President of the Foundation. “There can be great value in a public and private sector partnership, if executed properly. Through the generosity of Adventus, this year’s event marks their 6th annual sponsorship of the awards. It is clear the Adventus Student Award competition is an excellent way to encourage outstanding students to share their work, and give our members a chance to see what’s on the minds of the next generation.”

“Once again, we had to select from amongst an extremely talented group of internationally diverse young environmentalists,” said Dr. Alan Seech, CEO of Adventus Group. “They all displayed well conceived research, reinforced with strong presentation skills. Selecting the winning themes was extremely difficult, and we believe the industry will be hearing more from these students in years ahead. As Adventus seeks to develop the next generation of remediation biotechnologies, it remains our privilege to showcase the important role a partnership with the academic community and private sector organizations can play. Adventus is committed to continue sponsoring this exciting event, and we salute all the participants – especially our award winners.”

Dr. Bonnie Recommends Couples Heed Study Showing Stress Increases the Spread of Cancer

Dr. Bonnie Recommends Couples Heed Study Showing Stress Increases the Spread of Cancer

Recent studies reveal prolonged stress weakens the immune system, and can aid the spread of cancer. Dr. Bonnie warns couples that infidelity causes the injured partner extreme stress that can persist throughout the length of the relationship. This reminder comes after the recent death of Elizabeth Edwards who suffered from adultery and cancer simultaneously.

New York, NY (PRWEB) December 10, 2010

Dr. Bonnie Eaker Weil, PhD reminds couples around the world to remember Elizabeth Edward’s courage and unrelenting faith as she simultaneously faced her most difficult battles towards the end of her life—infidelity and cancer. Elizabeth Edward’s faith and resiliency skills were tested when her husband admitted to having an affair and finally confessing he had fathered a child with Rielle Hunter, a 42-year-old woman hired to make campaign videos during his run for president in 2007.

In her book Make Up Don’t Break Up, Dr. Weil cites studies that reveal prolonged stress lowers the immune system. Edward admitted in her memoir Resilience: Reflections on the Burdens and Gifts of Facing Life’s Adversities—that her husband’s infidelity made her physically ill. A recent 2010 study links cancer growth to stress (http://www. cancer. ucla. edu). “Adultery is one of the most brutal betrayals a partner can commit. We never know how long we, or our spouse will be here on this earth. I don’t think partners want the defining moment of their relationship to be about betrayal and cheating.”

“While adultery can be overcome, the uphill battle towards recovery includes healing physically, emotionally and spiritually. I ask couples to honor their marriage vows in memory of Elizabeth Edward’s courage, grace, and resiliency. And, remember to protect your relationship by nurturing instead of betraying. Monogamy may not be instinctual, but it is a choice,” Dr. Weil says.

Dr. Bonnie Eaker Weil (Dr. Bonnie) is a relationship expert who was named by Psychology Today as one of America’s best therapists, and by New York Magazine as one of New York City’s best therapists. Known as “The Adultery Buster” and the “No. 1 Love Expert,” she is the best-selling author of Adultery: The Forgivable Sin (adapted into a Lifetime movie starring actress Kate Jackson), Make Up Don’t Break Up, Finding and Keeping Love for Singles and Couples (Revised edition Feb 2010, including DVD How to Fall in Love and Stay in Love for Singles and Couples), Can We Cure and Forgive Adultery?, Staying Not Straying, How Not to (S)mother Your Man and Keep a Woman Happy, and Financial Infidelity (Making Money Sexy).

Dr. Bonnie has appeared on ABC’s Good Morning America, a three-day series on NBC’s The Today Show, The Oprah Winfrey Show five times, a four day series on Fox TV regarding dating, Discovery Health documentary "Infidelity" and A&E on addictions. She appears frequently on ABC, Fox, CBS and NBC News, The View, 20/20, and CNN. Visit Dr. Bonnie at http://www. DoctorBonnie. com.

Trusted Sports Launches Search for The Most Inspirational High School Football Players in America

Trusted Sports and co-founder, Daniel 'Rudy' Ruettiger announce the search for the 'Rudy' on every high school football team in America. The finalist will be named 'The Most Inspirational High School Football Player in America' and will receive a $10,000 academic scholarship.

Bend, OR (PRWEB) October 13, 2009

Trusted Sports Inc. (http://www. TrustedSports. com/?PR1) (TSI) and co-founder, Daniel 'Rudy' Ruettiger (http://www. highschoolrudyawards. com/content/12_2/About_Rudy. aspx) announced today the search for The Most Inspirational High School Football Player of the year, who will receive the inaugural 'High School Football Rudy Award' (http://www. highschoolrudyawards. com/?PR01) and a $10,000 academic scholarship. This award is aimed at not only celebrating incredibly inspiring player stories, but also to motivate other kids to thrive in life through youth sports (http://www. TrustedSports. com/?PR01). A total of $20,000 in academic scholarships will be awarded. The recipient of the High School Football Rudy Award will receive a $10,000 college scholarship. Two runners-up will each receive a $5,000 scholarship. In just one email push to the 16,000 High School football coaches in America, Trusted Sports has already received 149 nominations from 40 states. Real life stories of each nominee will be posted at HighSchoolRudyAwards. com (http://www. HighSchoolRudyAwards. com/?PR01) and parents, kids, and coaches are encouraged to go to the website and identify their most inspiring nominees before the November 30, 2009 cutoff. The top 20 nominations will be announced on December 11, 2009. People can nominate a player they believe is a 'Rudy' at HighSchoolRudyAwards. com (http://www. HighSchoolRudyAwards. com/?PR01) The award honors student-athletes who may not have the greatest stats, but who bring the most heart to their game.

The High School Football Rudy Awards is an expansion of the highly successful College Football Rudy Awards, now celebrating its third year, which was originally created by Ruettiger as a way to honor those athletes that inspire their teammates with their determination, character and commitment, sometimes in the face of significant adversity. "The 2008 College Rudy Awards received nominations from some of the toughest coaches in football. Yet, when they listened to our finalists at the awards ceremony there wasn't a dry eye in the room!" explained Ruettiger. "We want to honor those kids who are rising above physical, mental and emotional challenges. These high school nominees - some of them just fifteen years old - are an inspiration! I've been following their stories and am amazed at what they have overcome. Kurt LeBlanc of Louisiana suffered two strokes that left him unable to speak. Steven Barber of Colorado was born deaf, yet he's never allowed that to stop him from following his dream to play football. Anthony Braham of New York suffers from kidney failure. A. J. Bocchini of Wisconsin deals with Cerebral Palsy, but none of these kids allow their challenges to stop them from contributing to the team! Their stories motivate everyone who reads them; inspire kids to take up a sport, or continue playing." Ruettiger continues, "America needs heroes - now more than ever; and we're finding them on the high school football fields throughout the country."

The 2009 Selection Committee includes former Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints Head Coach, Jim Mora Sr.; NBC Football Sideline Reporter, Andrea Kremer; former Seattle Seahawks running back and NFL MVP, Shaun Alexander; former New England Patriots quarterback and four time pro bowl selection, Drew Bledsoe; and Inside the NFL Special Correspondent, Jenn Brown.

The Atlanta Sleep Medicine Clinic Discusses Effects of Time Change on Sleep

The Atlanta Sleep Medicine Clinic Discusses Effects of Time Change on Sleep

Most Americans will benefit from the extra hour of sleep gained when time “falls back” this weekend. While the extra hour of rest may seem like a luxury, how does a sudden switch in time affect those seeking a healthy night’s sleep? The Atlanta Sleep Medicine Clinic discusses how shifts in time change sleep patterns.

Atlanta, GA (Vocus) November 4, 2010

Most Americans will benefit from the extra hour of sleep gained when time “falls back” this weekend. An estimated 70 million Americans suffer from some form of a sleep disorder. While the extra hour of rest may seem like a luxury, how does a sudden switch in time affect those seeking a healthy night’s sleep?

“When we fall back in autumn, our body’s circadian rhythm – what determines when we are sleepy and when we are alert – must reset itself,” said Dr. Russell Rosenberg, CEO of the Atlanta Sleep Medicine Clinic and Vice Chair of the National Sleep Foundation.

An upset in the body’s internal clock results in an adjustment period, usually lasting around one day. Americans will also experience less exposure to one of the body’s most important internal regulators - natural light.

Shorter days means longer nights and less exposure to sunlight, and natural light plays an important role in the healthy sleep process. Most know that light signals to the brain it is time to wake up. Light also helps regulate the body’s internal sleep/wake cycle. To keep the body on track, “take a few moments to step outside and expose yourself to the early morning sunlight,” said Dr. Rosenberg, “The sunlight at dawn tends to suppress melatonin, so by getting out each morning and walking around, you can help strengthen your sleep-wake clock.”

A few more tips for healthy sleep:

-Sleep in a dark, cool room. TVs and laptops should be off; the smallest light can interrupt and decrease the quality of your sleep.

-Avoid naps if you have insomnia.

-Don’t hit the snooze button hit the floor. Use the time change to your benefit and set a more consistent schedule for yourself, even on weekends.

-If you notice the time change has disrupted your sleep for more than a few weeks, visit a doctor or a certified sleep specialist.

The Infertility Cure Retreat Comes To Seattle

The Infertility Cure Retreat Comes To Seattle

Dr. Randine Lewis, Ph. D., Lic. Ac. will host a fertility-enhancing retreat at the Edgewater Hotel in Seattle June 11th – 14th. Finally, a sane approach! The work at these intensive retreats is based on Dr. Lewis’ book, The Infertility Cure, a program that uses ancient Chinese medicine for aiding in getting pregnant and having healthy babies. This special retreat will focus on the best that Eastern and Western reproductive medicine has to offer couples who are struggling with their fertillity.

Arden, NC (PRWEB) May 26, 2010

Dr. Randine Lewis, Ph. D., Lic. Ac. will host a fertility-enhancing retreat for patients and spouses at the Edgewater Hotel in Seattle June 11th – 14th. The work at these intensive retreats is based on Dr. Lewis’ book, The Infertility Cure, a program that uses ancient Chinese medicine for aiding in getting pregnant and having healthy babies.

With a regime of acupuncture, dietary considerations, and a mixture of Chinese herbs, 75 percent of Dr. Lewis’ clinical patients were successful in achieving a healthy pregnancy and birth. At this point in her career, she no longer has a clinical practice and prefers to work with small groups of patients at her intensive retreats held all over the world. She tends to work with women in their 40’s who have been told they have little or no hope. It is a tougher patient group than she saw in her clinical practice but she still sees impressive results in terms of pregnancies and deep therapeutic healing for all who attend her retreats. This is her first retreat in the Seattle area where there will be a focus on “integrative medicine” – bringing forth the best of both eastern and western medicine for fertility enhancement. During the retreat, there will be a special presentation by Dr. Gerard Letterie of the Northwest Center for Reproductive Sciences.

Dr. Lewis decided on a career in medicine when her first child was in the third grade. As she completed medical school, she remarried and began to try for a second child. As time grew on, she began experiencing hormonal problems which resulted in her inability to conceive. After refusing to listen to her doctors who told her the answer was to hyper-stimulate her ovaries, she looked into her own solution: acupuncture and Chinese herbal treatment. After three months, she was pregnant. Dr. Lewis changed her focus to an education surrounding traditional Chinese medicine and her family eventually moved to China where she practiced traditional Chinese medicine. Dr. Lewis is the founder of Eastern Harmony Clinic in Houston, where she treated infertility and recurrent miscarriage with Traditional Chinese Medicine.

“There are many things women can do to resolve their fertility crisis naturally and there are also ways Chinese Medicine can increase chances of success with assisted reproductive technologies like IVF,” Dr. Lewis says. “Dr. Letterie recognizes the value of integrating the best of eastern and western medicine into his practice and so we wanted to conduct this special retreat in Seattle with him.”

Acupuncture is a main ingredient of the retreat, and has been found to be a key catalyst in assisting women to achieve successful pregnancies. Acupuncture has been found to lower the stress hormones responsible for infertility, boost fertility as it increases the blood flow to the reproductive organs, increase endorphin production, and normalize the hypothalamic pituitary ovarian axis. In a study done by the American Society of Reproductive Medicine, 160 women who were undergoing assisted reproduction therapy were divided into groups of two: one group received acupuncture before and after the embryo transfer, the other did not. As a result, 46.5 percent of the women who received acupuncture became pregnant. Only 26.3 percent of the women who did not receive acupuncture in the other group became pregnant.

In addition to the acupuncture, each participant will have an individual intake to confirm their diagnosis according to Chinese Medicine, and an acupuncture treatment by Dr. Lewis’ staff. Patients will receive a full regime of reproductive massage, nutritional guidance and eating plan, as well as intensive group work and lectures on both Western and Eastern reproductive medicine.

Although this regime dramatically increases the chances of getting pregnant, the retreat does so much more for the long-term aspect of women’s lives.

“Although I have seen many women get pregnant using this method – including myself, Randine also helps lives beyond helping women conceive,” Kristin O. of Boston, Mass. says. “She somehow is able to remind us of who we are, and all that we are capable of. With her help we are able to crawl out of our sadness and into a stronger, more confident and aware self. I can honestly say that after three of Randine’s treatments, I have found a state of happiness and peace that I forgot was possible.”

Dr. Lewis says that with this program, women will learn to shift their paradigm into taking full control of their bodies. Women will learn different types of treatments that regulate hormone levels and will receive methods to increase reproductive response. Women in this program will also reduce their physiological response of stress.

“We are not trying to force a pregnancy,” Dr. Lewis says. “We are opening you up on every level. We are making changes in your life which reduce the stress of infertility… We go at [getting pregnant] like we devour everything else, and try to force it to happen. When life is our goal, these methods don’t work. Unsuccessful reproductive medical intervention often makes women crazy. We need a sane approach”

The infertility program is scientifically and medically based, and does not interrupt the body’s own functions. It is about helping to resolve deficiencies and imbalances and allow a pregnancy to happen. For more information and online registration for the June retreat with Dr. Lewis, visit http://www. thefertilesoul. com (http://www. thefertilesoul. com).

New Book Teaches Readers to Control Stress in Seven Weeks

New Book Teaches Readers to Control Stress in Seven Weeks

Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) Dr. Richard Blonna will forever change how you feel about stress in "Seven Weeks to Conquering Your Stress."

Hillsborough, NJ (PRWEB) December 17, 2006

In his new book, "Seven Weeks to Conquering Your Stress," author Dr. Richard Blonna says, "Everyone is unique when it comes to stress. Rather than force everyone to adapt to one rigid way of managing stress, I will help people develop a personal approach to coping that is holistic and revolves around their needs and lifestyle."

Dr. Blonna believes there are no universal stressors; what stresses one person will only challenge another. He teaches that stressors are really just "potential stressors" until one feels threatened by them and consequently feels unable to cope with them. By developing a broad repertoire of coping strategies, a person can resist the urge to stress and with time, will have the ability to see potential stressors for what they really are and react accordingly.

Dr. Blonna's strategies are based on the Five R's of Coping Model, which he developed over a decade ago and published in "Coping With Stress in a Changing World 4th Edition" for use in college classrooms across the country. In "Seven Weeks to Conquering Your Stress," Blonna has modified the Five R's of Coping Model for adults in "real world" settings. The model consists of five tactics for coping with stressors, essentially revealing five levels of defense against stress -- Reorganize, Relax, Release, Rethink and Reduce.

Dr. Blonna shows readers how to use the five levels of defense against stress to design personal stress management programs tailored to their unique personalities and daily lives. Dr. Blonna's approach is basic but personal and therefore, can be applied to any stressor and all people. There is something for everyone in "Seven Weeks to Conquering Your Stress."

Norwell Chiropractic Spine and Sports Rehab Offers Back Care for Moms-To-Be

With a large percentage of women plagued by lower back pain during pregnancy, Drs. Carol DeFranca and Scott Chapman, the husband and wife chiropractic team at Norwell Chiropractic Spine and Sports Rehab, announce chiropractic care for moms-to-be.

(PRWEB) March 25, 2005

With a large percentage of women plagued by lower back pain during pregnancy, Drs. Carol DeFranca and Scott Chapman, the husband and wife chiropractic team at Norwell Chiropractic Spine and Sports Rehab, announce chiropractic care for moms-to-be.

According to Dr. DeFranca, a Board Certified Orthopedic Specialist and Chiropractor as well as mother of two, “Chiropractic care for low back pain is a well-established and safe treatment method, which is especially good news since chiropractic care works by natural means without the use of pain medications.”

She continued, “Pregnant women experience back pain due primarily to the body changes that occur during the pregnancy process, many of the muscles, joints, ligaments and nerves of the lower spine come under a great deal of increased biomechanical strain. In some instances, this leads expectant moms to limit activities due to pain.”

Diagnosis and Treatment

Norwell Chiropractic Spine and Sports Rehab takes special care to accommodate pregnant womenÂ’s special needs. The type of back treatment depends upon diagnosis of the cause of pain. There are a number of safe, effective hands-on treatments that will help ease pain including gentle stretches, manipulations and mobilizations of the strained soft tissues to ease restrictions to movement.

There are also many types of exercises that can relieve lower back pain. Some exercises work to decrease tension in muscles while others can help in strengthening muscles to hold your body in a more ideal alignment. Norwell Chiropractic may suggest a gentle exercise program and will outline specific exercises to patients.

What to Expect

“At your initial visit, we obtain a thorough health history and examine your back. Patients should expect their first visit to be about an hour long and that we will spend plenty of time answering any questions. Then we’ll explain the cause of your pain and how we will alleviate it,” noted Dr. DeFranca.

About Norwell Chiropractic Spine and Sports Rehab

Catering to patients throughout the South Shore, Drs. Chapman and DeFranca, Board Certified Orthopedic Specialists and Chiropractors, provide a unique combination of chiropractic care, manual muscular therapy, sports rehabilitation and nutritional counseling.

Wealthy Americans Go Green: Most Support Environmentally-Friendly Choices and Policies

Wealthy Americans Go Green: Most Support Environmentally-Friendly Choices and Policies

The majority of wealthy Americans have "green" values, reporting a keen interest in environmental issues and companies that follow a socially responsible path, according to the fifth annual Wealth and Values Survey by PNC Wealth Management, a member of The PNC Financial Services Group, Inc.

Pittsburgh, PA (PRWEB) January 29, 2009

The majority of wealthy Americans have "green" values, reporting a keen interest in environmental issues and companies that follow a socially responsible path, according to the fifth annual Wealth and Values Survey by PNC Wealth Management, a member of The PNC Financial Services Group, Inc. (NYSE: PNC).

The survey of 1,263 wealthy Americans, all of whom had at least $500,000 in investable assets, revealed that 71 percent have socially responsible and green investments in their portfolio, while 57 percent say they have up to 25 percent of their portfolio in such investments, while nine percent have between 25-50 percent. One quarter (25 percent) believe that green investments will gain in 2009.

"We have seen a discernable trend in recent years by the wealthy to put at least some of their funds into green and socially responsible investments," said Bruce Bickel, senior vice president of PNC Wealth Management.

"It is not a complete buy-in yet, but the results unquestionably show us they want part of their investments to be in companies that reflect their own values. There is the also practical view of the environmental sector as a growth area and they want to be on the leading edge," said Bickel, who manages the grant distribution process of 24 private family foundations with assets totaling more than $300 million.

Walking the Talk
Not only are wealthy Americans expressing their concern for the environment on a macro level, they are walking the talk in their daily lives. Other findings showed:
83 percent recycle at home, and 77 believe that "small lifestyle changes can make an impact on the environment if everyone participates." 56 percent "choose paperless options whenever it is offered." 53 percent says they will consider environmental issues when they renovate or upgrade their home. 39 percent "plan to buy a hybrid car." 39 percent say they "do business with companies that have socially responsible corporate initiatives," while only 15 percent disagree.

Greener Government Policies
PNC also found that 50 percent "believe future generations will experience health problems because of the state of the environment."
Further, 86 percent of those surveyed said they somewhat or strongly agreed that "The U. S. should increase spending and incentives for development of alternative renewable energy sources" and 78 percent believe that "increased fuel efficiency standards for cars and trucks should be mandated."

And while there is overwhelming support for policies that are environmentally friendly, a large percentage also advocate drilling for oil in areas that are now prohibited by law, PNC found.

Seventy-nine percent believe "the government should promote greater use of nuclear energy and 71 percent support drilling for oil "in areas in the U. S. where it is now prohibited."

The PNC Financial Services Group, Inc. (www. pnc. com) is one of the nation's largest diversified financial services organizations providing consumer and business banking; specialized services for corporations and government entities, including corporate banking, real estate finance and asset-based lending; wealth management; asset management and global fund services.

“Though we have met our projected goal, Project Life Boat will still be pleased to accept donations to aide victims of the Tsunami,” said Jim Cain of Kilpatrick Stockton and a Honorary Project Life Boat Committee Member. “Every $4000 raised will help build and equip a fishing boat— your family, company church or civic group can raise funds for one or more boats— or your gifts will be combined with others,”

Priya Viswanath, President of Charities Aid Foundation-India says the work of individuals and businesses in the Raleigh-Durham area, is going to make a big impact on the fishermen’s lives “Their income levels will almost triple,” Viswanath said.

The boat distribution is scheduled for June 11th and 12th and July 1st.

$1 Million in Grant Funding Available for Programs to Improve Maternal and Child Health

$1 Million in Grant Funding Available for Programs to Improve Maternal and Child Health

CareFirst Targets Northern Virginia for Community-Based Health Initiatives

Northern Virginia (Vocus) August 25, 2009

CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield (CareFirst), has announced the availability of $1 million in grant funding for programs aimed at improving maternal and child health in northern Virginia. Grant proposals must be submitted to CareFirst by September 18. CareFirst anticipates that grant determinations will be made before the end of 2009.

"We've made incredible strides in Virginia in reducing infant mortality rates to historic lows -- but there's more work to be done to improve the health of expecting mothers and ensure our children have the best start in life," said Governor Timothy M. Kaine. "By making private resources available, CareFirst is setting a wonderful example for other corporate leaders and helping build on the progress made by publicly-funded initiatives in communities across the Commonwealth."

CareFirst is making the funds available as part of its efforts to address health care disparities throughout the region and support Governor Timothy M. Kaine's major efforts to reduce the Commonwealth's infant mortality rate. In Virginia, 839 babies died before age 1, in 2007, according state records. Infant mortality is measured as the number of deaths per 1,000 live births. In 2008, Virginia's infant mortality rate was 6.7 deaths per 1,000 live births, about average among all states nationwide. The State of Washington has the lowest infant mortality rate, at 4.68. The District of Columbia has the highest, 11.26.

"Infant mortality rates are a key indicator of a community's overall health," said Chet Burrell, CareFirst President and CEO. "Reversing the trend of infant mortality in Northern Virginia will take system-wide efforts to eliminate the social and economic barriers that can hinder a mother's access to care."

CareFirst has issued a request for proposals from organizations serving CareFirst's Northern Virginia service area (the cities of Alexandria and Fairfax, the town of Vienna, Arlington County and the areas of Fairfax and Prince William Counties east of Route 123). Grants are available for one or more programs that show promise to significantly improve maternal and infant health in the region. Ideal projects will be sustainable over time with potential for expansion and/or replication in surrounding communities. For a complete description of the program and details on the application process, please visit http://www. carefirstcommitment. com/attachments/CFRFPMaternalChildHealth. pdf (http://www. carefirstcommitment. com/attachments/CFRFPMaternalChildHealth. pdf).

"Great strides have been made in reducing the rate of infant mortality in Virginia to its lowest rate in state history, but more work is needed," said Karen Remley, M. D., Commissioner of the Virginia Department of Health. "A key part of continuing this success is keeping with the Governor's proactive involvement at the community level, teaming both public and private sector resources to educate mothers and caregivers on prenatal health and infant care."

CareFirst will accept proposals aimed at improving maternal and infant health through three key stages, including pre-pregnancy, during pregnancy and post-pregnancy. For example, during the pre-pregnancy stage, CareFirst will consider programs that lead to reduced substance abuse, domestic violence, and sexually transmitted diseases. During pregnancy, increasing access to regular prenatal care is essential. Post-pregnancy, mothers and caregivers need to be informed on proper sleeping positions for infants and the health benefits of breast-feeding, among other issues.

CareFirst is working in partnership with an advisory panel of local experts on maternal and infant health and public policy leaders. In addition to CareFirst representatives, members of the advisory panel that will review proposals for grant funding include:
Sallie Eissler, R. N., M. S.N., C. P.N. P., Director of Partnership Development for Family Health Connection at Potomac Hospital Rebecca Mendoza, M. A., Director of the Maternal and Child Health Division of the Virginia Department of Medical Assistance Services Karen Remley, M. D., Commissioner of the Virginia Department of Health Anne Rieger, Assistant Vice President of INOVA Community Health Shirley Travis, M. D., Dean of the College of Health and Human Services at George Mason University In its 72nd year of service, CareFirst, an independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association, is a not-for-profit health care company which, through its affiliates and subsidiaries, offers a comprehensive portfolio of health insurance products and administrative services to nearly 3.4 million individuals and groups in Maryland, the District of Columbia and Northern Virginia. Through its CareFirst Commitment (http://www. carefirstcommitment. com/html/index. html) initiative and other public mission activities, CareFirst supports efforts to increase the accessibility, affordability, safety and quality of health care throughout its market areas. Pinnacol Assurance and Wellsource Health Solutions are Linking Wellness to Workers' Compensation Costs

Wellsource Health Solutions and Pinnacol Assurance are partnering on a groundbreaking project that will study the effects of applied work site wellness programs on workers' compensation costs.

Sheboygan, WI (PRWEB) December 20, 2010

Wellsource Health Solutions, LLC, a Division of Trotter Wellness, located in Sheboygan, WI and Pinnacol Assurance, Colorado's leading workers' compensation insurance provider, are partnering on a groundbreaking project that will study the effects of applied work site wellness programs on workers' compensation costs.

This five-year study aims to quantify the impact of work site health risk management programs on workers' compensation costs, employee productivity, and the health risk profiles for individuals and organizations. Pinnacol insures 55,000 Colorado businesses representing every segment of the state's workforce. The company has joined forces with 28 of their insurance agent partners to deliver the wellness programs to their policyholders. The goal is to enroll 30,000 individual participants.

"We've been committed to Colorado's employees for more than 90 years and this study will introduce yet another way we can protect and improve the health and productivity of the state's workforce," states Jeff Tetrick, Pinnacol's CFO. "We hope this partnership will validate what we believe to be true, that there is a direct relationship between the mitigation of behavioral-based health risks and the utilization of workers' compensation services."

"We are very excited to be working with such a progressive partner in this ground breaking project," states Patrick Trotter, President of Trotter Wellness. "The length and breadth of this study will provide valuable information into the health related risk variables and how they affect safety, productivity, health related costs and the general health and welfare of employees."

Freedom Benefits Targets Unemployed

Freedom Benefits Targets Unemployed

Freedom Benefits is a small business adviser that recently published a series of free articles that are intended to assist all uninsured Americans find affordable health insurance.

(PRWEB) January 20, 2005

Freedom Benefits Association provides online benefits consulting to small businesses. A primary need for these clients has always been affordable health insurance. But now a seris of recent projects address a much wider audience: all Americans without health insurance. A new report “Freedom Benefits Guide to Finding Health Insurance” is available free of charge from the company’s Web site at http://www. freedombenefits. org/articles%20published/Guide-To-Finding-Health-Insurance-Coverage. htm (http://www. freedombenefits. org/articles%20published/Guide-To-Finding-Health-Insurance-Coverage. htm).

The report explains that at least one health insurance plan is available to every American, although it may not be under the terms or price that we prefer. The report also takes the politically sensitive of highlighting that different types of health insurance plans are more appropriate or more popular with different economic classes. The report clarifies that the uninsured problem is a middle class issue and that a majority of uninsured Americans are in a temporarily unstable situation.

The report summarizes the eight types of health insurance most commonly used in the U. S. today, the advantages and disadvantages, how to find each type, and whether professional help is available online through OnlineAdviser service.

Tony Novak, principal of Freedom Benefits, has personally addressed more than 20,000 questions from Americans in all 50 states looking for health insurance. He concludes that much of the uninsured problem is due to ignorance and misinformation. Novak says that some straight talk on the issue, regardless of political correctness, is exactly what many people need.

Separately, Freedom Benefits Association also issued reports this week on Basic Health Insurance, a trimmed down type of insurance that covers some the most common types of medical charges. This health insurance is available to all residents of approved states without regard to medical history or other health insurance coverage. The cost is so much lower than traditional health insurance that some see this type of insurance as a key part of the eventual solution to AmericaÂ’s uninsured problem.

More information is available at www. FreedomBenefits. org and the author’s Web site www. TonyNovak. com/OnlineAdviser. htm (http://www. TonyNovak. com/OnlineAdviser. htm ). “OnlineAdviser” is a trademark of Freedom Benefits Association.

Grassroots Advocacy Efforts Get a Much Needed Partner in FloodTheLines. com

Grassroots Advocacy Efforts Get a Much Needed Partner in FloodTheLines. com

FloodTheLines. com is a first-of-its-kind application that helps to maximize the effect of telephone advocacy campaigns by organizing and managing the process while creating the sense of urgency to take action. Individuals as well as local, regional and national organizations now have a more effective tool to use for their grassroots advocacy initiatives.

Ocoee, FL (PRWEB) May 6, 2008

Orlando, FL (PRWEB) May 6, 2008 -- Could you be productive at work if your phone rang every 3 minutes? Most of us couldn't and that is precisely what a revolutionary new web application is counting on. FloodTheLines. com (http://floodthelines. com) is a first-of-its-kind application that helps to maximize the effect of telephone advocacy campaigns by organizing and managing the process.

CEO Aubrey Perry hopes that organizations and concerned citizens will use the free application in their grassroots advocacy initiatives. "Email campaigns are easily filtered and petitions don't create the sense of urgency to take action.", says Perry. But receiving a phone call about an issue every 3 minutes for a few days will. "A telephone call is a disruptive event which requires individual attention or there is a risk of missing important information."

FloodTheLines. com produces a steady flood of calls by ensuring that each person who joins a campaign has a specific date and time to make a 30 second phone call. The creators of the campaigns (http://www. floodthelines. com/cause_search. php) also have the ability to monitor participation in the campaign and adjust their marketing efforts as needed. Organizations whose members are passionate about issues such as animal welfare, education, environment, health care, public safety or senior citizens rights, to name a few, now have a viable tool to mobilize their calls-to-action with the necessary impact for success.

"It is no longer necessary to incur the hefty marketing expense to promote your campaign only to be left with erratic calling patterns and immeasurable results." says Perry.

The company hopes that the application can become a very useful tool to bring people together for the common purpose of influencing decisions whether initiated by individuals or by local, regional or national organizations.
