Located in Clearwater since 2002, ATI is a non-12-step holistic, dual diagnosis residential treatment center for alcoholism and substance abuse, psycho-emotional disorders, depression, trauma and eating disorders.

The LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System is a voluntary standard that designates an environmentally responsible building in the areas of sustainable sites, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, indoor environmental quality and innovation and design process. The ATI facility in Naples is being designed to achieve the LEED certification’s highest Platinum level, which is the ultimate achievement in Green building.

“Building Green fits seamlessly with both our business philosophy and our integrated Mind-Body-Spirit-EnvironmentSM approach to treating addictions and related emotional disorders,” said Dr. Alan Meyers, ATI founder. “We’re also excited by the prospect of becoming the first Platinum LEED facility of this kind in the state, as well as the only addictions treatment program in a Platinum Certified “green” facility in the world. Our goal is to set a new and higher standard of quality of treatment in the field of addiction and mental health programming. The treatment philosophy incorporates our unique “Perception Therapy®” techniques to aid our clients in the healing of their Mind-Body-Spirit and Environment and to promote successful recovery”.

San Diego Dermatologist Voted Best Doctor In La Jolla Light's 2007 Reader's Poll

San Diego Dermatologist Voted Best Doctor In La Jolla Light's 2007 Reader's Poll

Being voted a Best Doctor means a lot to Dr. Susan Stuart, because it means that when it comes to skin care, the San Diego dermatologist is doing something right.

La Jolla, CA (PRWEB) November 8, 2007

The reality is Susan Stuart, M. D. didn't just do something right in 2007. She has a track record of doing everything right, beginning with her undergraduate education at Duke University where she was elected into Phi Beta Kappa, a prestigious academic honor bestowed upon but a small fraction of undergrads who achieve the highest standards of scholarship. She didn't stop there, going on to receive her M. D. from Tulane University School of Medicine. Success built upon success, and she soon completed a one-year dermatology research fellowship at San Diego's Mercy Hospital Medical Center. Then, it was off to Emory University, one of the country's most acclaimed dermatology training programs, where she completed still another residency. Finally, she fulfilled a one-year postgraduate dermatology fellowship in pediatric dermatology at Stanford University Medical Center.

So, where does one go from there? For this particular dermatologist, San Diego seemed like the perfect place to call home. And that's where the real story begins, in the here and now, because quite frankly one wouldn't expect a doctor whose job it is to combat the signs of aging to live in the past.

Of course, reducing or preventing lines, wrinkles and age spots is not the San Diego dermatologist's only job. She also diagnoses and treats skin cancer, offers laser hair removal, laser vein therapy, removes tattoos and moles, treats rashes and acne, and offers facials. But it isn't all about the skin; sometimes, it's also about the spirit. "We also offer massage therapy," Stuart says, "because I want patients to feel as good on the inside as they look on the outside." If it sounds a bit old fashioned, it's because Stuart believes no matter how many innovative treatments and services are offered regardless, it just doesn't matter if a qualified - and caring - dermatologist doesn't administer them.

"Yes, I'll admit my philosophy is sort of old fashioned," says Stuart. "I believe in taking a personal approach with each patient. At La Jolla Dermatology, we view each patient as an individual and therefore believe they should receive personalized patient care. Every man or woman that walks through our door is treated like family, and every member of our team, from top to bottom, is focused on exceeding their expectations with skin care treatments designed just for them."

Being old fashioned in an industry focused on more youthful looking skin--and where treatments to achieve it are constantly evolving--isn't easy, but Dr. Stuart makes it look that way. In fact, when looking back at her career, it's amazing what she's achieved. In addition to being voted Best Doctor by the readers of La Jolla Light, she was one of the youngest Presidents of the San Diego Dermatologic Society, as well as Chief of the Division of Dermatology at La Jolla's Scripps Memorial Hospital. Dr. Stuart was also selected as one of America's Top Physicians in Dermatology.

"My goal," says Stuart, "has always been to create the best combination of skin care in San Diego, along with beauty and medical care. And although I think I've done that, I'm not done. I want to continue to offer powerful, yet gentle, non-invasive skin care treatments that yield remarkable, and often times, immediate results." And about the recognition from the readers of La Jolla Light?

"Being recognized for what one does is a great honor, but it's truly my privilege to do what I enjoy, and in the process, be able to help men and women realize healthy, beautiful skin. Recognition? Well, I guess it means we're doing something right."

Board of Directors' Responsibilities Intensify with Financial Crisis

Board of Directors' Responsibilities Intensify with Financial Crisis

In the wake of the current financial crisis, Board of Directors responsibilities will intensify and pay for performance will become more than just a sentiment. The Federal government, industry watchdog groups and shareholders will make corporate governance a critical concern in the years to come. Therefore, the Board will need to scrutinize management actions more, closely review executive compensation, and support management action in a myriad of other operational issues.

Armonk, NY (PRWEB) November 21, 2008

In the wake of the current financial crisis, Board of Directors responsibilities will intensify and pay for performance will become more than just a sentiment. The Federal government, industry watchdog groups and shareholders will make corporate governance a critical concern in the years to come. Therefore, the Board will need to scrutinize management actions more, closely review executive compensation, and support management action in a myriad of other operational issues.

In the process, the Board will spend more time on company matters, have more in-depth knowledge of company activities, and most critical, have the skill set to understand how to successfully manage the company. Accordingly, it's reasonable for each Board to periodically evaluate its own performance, consider its own structure; update the charters of its committee, and even review its own compensation.

The Board needs an objective source of information to support its decisions on key matters and Total Compensation Solutions (TCS) has developed a resource that provides that information in the new 2008 Board of Directors Compensation and Governance Survey.

TCS has produced this study on Board of Directors' compensation policies and practices since 2004. It includes data compiled from 371 organizations principally from the financial services sector and concludes that:

The average total cash compensation for the Chair of the Board of Directors grew by 15% over last year and the average total cash compensation for regular Board members grew by eight percent.

  2007 2008  % Difference
Chair,  $45,377  $52,131 15%
Director,  $38,914 $42,138  8%

"What's interesting to note is that the trend is slowing down" says Paul Gavejian Managing Director of TCS. "In past surveys, the percent of difference reached as high as 20% for both the Chair and Directors"

The average total cash compensation for the Board Chair and Directors is higher in publicly held companies than the other organizations in the survey.

 Overall,  Public,  Private
Chair,  $52,131, $54,091, $52,291
Director,  $42,138, $46,252, $26,510

"We've always presumed that the increased level of risk associated with public trading of company stock should be reflected in compensation for management and now it appears this applies to privately held companies as well" per Gavejian.

The TCS report also addresses compliance issues and reports a four percent (4%) decrease from last year in the amount of companies using Sarbanes-Oxley as their primary guidance for compliance. Many of the survey participants indicate that they use Federal and state regulations as their primary guidance and TCS observed a nine percent (9%) increase in the use of the Security Exchange Commission (SEC) for compliance.

"It's too early to know the long term effects of this year's financial crisis on the economy. However, it's almost certain that stronger regulation of the financial services industry will be mandated next year"…according to Gavejian..."we're starting to wonder if this will result in Sarbanes-Oxley-style reform."

TCS monitors these issues and can work closely with the Board of Directors and its Committees to ensure compliance with the existing rules and the appropriateness of compensation arrangements for Board members. How to Survive The 2009 Holiday Season by Listening With Your Heart

How to Survive The 2009 Holiday Season by Listening With Your Heart

Bringing happiness to the dinner table is the key to transform family dynamic from fizzle to fab.

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) November 25, 2009

The holiday season is a very stressful time for most Americans. Family relationships during the holidays have often triggered conflicts, agitations, and unhappy memories. Within hours of being together, peace and joy can quickly be tossed out of the window. Upon the release of her new book Happiness by Definition, relationships expert Flo Li shows us that we can bring happiness and joy into our everyday lives to transform family dynamics from fizzle to fab.

“The key to a successful relationship is to recognize underneath all the nagging, demands and scrutiny, there is only love.” In her book, Li helps readers to take notice that happiness and love is natural and always exist underneath the clutter of mental conflicts. To some, doubts might linger as they wonder why so many loving individuals still suffer the holiday blues? “Lack of understanding,” says Li. According to the author, so many of us wish to be understood instead of willing to understand. Wishing to be understood can only bring endless headaches because we can never change someone’s mind by forcing a point of view. She advises, “to develop a healthy long-term relationship takes more than just timely communication but also the willingness to see from the other person’s perspective. And to form a healthy family dynamic, it is best to listen with your heart, be honest but tactful, and don’t react.”

The book guides the readers to listen with their hearts and tap into the boundless power of compassion. It magnifies the idea that people can be happy and affectionate by opening their hearts, by listening without reacting and imposing the need to be right. Happiness by Definition creates more opportunities to communicate honestly with oneself as well as another and by taking the other person’s feelings into consideration. For sure, it is simple but it will not be easy. Just like carving a turkey, the first time might be a mess but the more practice, the more graceful a healthy communication will become. And yes, this holiday season can truly be peace and joy without all the drama of the holiday blues.

Keep Your New Year's Resolution By Using Dr. Mike's Top Ten Tips To Quit Smoking

Keep Your New Year's Resolution By Using Dr. Mike's Top Ten Tips To Quit Smoking

According to the U. S. Surgeon General, 70 percent of smokers want to quit each year, 46 percent of smokers try to quit each year, but less than 7.5 percent of smokers succeed in quitting for a year (http://www. surgeongeneral. gov/tobacco/smokfact. htm). Let Dr. Michael Rabinoff, an expert in smoking cessation, help you keep your New Year's resolution by following his top ten tips to quit smoking.

San Jose, CA (PRWEB) January 1, 2007

According to the U. S. Surgeon General, 70 percent of smokers want to quit each year, 46 percent of smokers try to quit each year, but less than 7.5 percent of smokers succeed in quitting for a year (http://www. surgeongeneral. gov/tobacco/smokfact. htm (http://www. surgeongeneral. gov/tobacco/smokfact. htm)). Let Dr. Michael Rabinoff, an expert in smoking cessation, help you keep your New Year's resolution by following his top ten tips to quit smoking.

1. Have a "big enough why." Spend time thinking about why you want to quit. What are your personal reasons to quit? Then write down the reasons. Post your written reasons on your refrigerator and elsewhere, and let the list remind you every day of these important reasons. It's your life, so be motivated to succeed.

Some famous motivational speakers and "gurus" use "leverage" to give the smoker motivation to quit. Tony Robbins, for example, has charged people $15,000 or more for a one-hour smoking cessation session. If you're willing to pay $15,000 to quit, you're probably motivated, and also more likely to succeed. Other trainers may have the person (besides paying a fair amount of money) do tasks, such as homework exercises, before the person is taken as a client. Doing so ensures that the person is motivated to quit, which helps get better results.

Dr. Michael Rabinoff says "My first tip is for you to determine the real reasons you want to quit, and to internally experience how important it is for you to quit once you know your big enough why. Take time every day to experience the feelings of how important it is for you to quit, once you know your personal reasons... once you know your big enough why."

2. Throw away all cigarettes and related items. Toss them in the garbage. All cigarettes, matches, ashtrays, lighters, rolling papers, cigars, hookahs, logo clothing, and other items from tobacco companies that they try to use to brand you as a smoker---discard anything to do with smoking. Don't allow any of that stuff at home, at work, or in your car. Some say to put away ashtrays and lighters. I say throw them away, so that it will cost you money if you don't stick to your goal of quitting.

3. Set a quit date. Determine a definite date when you will quit (or will start a gradual scheduled reduction program --- for more information on gradual scheduled reduction, see pp. 341-3 in Ending The Tobacco Holocaust).

4. Change your identity and self-image to "I am a nonsmoker." You are no longer a smoker having a problem with quitting. Change your identity to that of a nonsmoker so that smoking isn't congruent with who you are. In a calm moment, you may want to close your eyes and visualize yourself as smoke-free, happily breathing fresh healthy air into your lungs, and feeling relaxed and refreshed doing so.

Father-Daughter Story on Schizophrenia is Emotionally Powerful, Documentary Will Air on PBS Stations

Father-Daughter Story on Schizophrenia is Emotionally Powerful, Documentary Will Air on PBS Stations

Special Screening at 2010 NAMI Convention on July 2

Arlington, VA (PRWEB) June 24, 2010

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI (http://www. nami. org/)) will screen the award-winning documentary, Unlisted: A Story of Schizophrenia, at its national convention in Washington, D. C. on July 2.

Unlisted (http://www. unlistedfilm. com/index. html) is scheduled for release to PBS stations in October 2010, coinciding with Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW).

For many years, physician and filmmaker Delaney Ruston was estranged from her father, Richard, a poet and novelist who struggled with schizophrenia (http://www. nami. org/survey) and at times lived on the streets. Feeling helpless whenever he showed up at her door in psychotic states, she decided to become unlisted in the phone book.

Medical school taught Ruston about the science of mental illness, but not the actual experience of people living with it. She reached a turning point when her son started asking about his grandpa. Reconciliation followed—along with supportive housing and treatment for her father.

But Richard stopped taking his medicine and went missing. Reconciliation became a race for survival ending in tragedy

“My dad was a regular guy who wanted a career and family, but he was constantly stymied by his disordered thought process,” Ruston said. “With the film, I want to give viewers background on why getting mental health treatment is so difficult. It doesn’t have to be that way.”

“America’s mental health care system is in crisis, but many courageous people are fighting for hope and recovery,” said NAMI Executive Director Michael J Fitzpatrick.
“Unlisted is a powerful film and a vehicle for education. The 2010 NAMI Convention is a platform to heighten public interest.”

“We hope television critics and feature editors in the news media will take notice and seek more stories about individuals and families affected by serious mental illness. Beyond tragedy, there are many stories of hope and recovery.”

The 2010 NAMI Convention full schedule (http://www. nami. org/Template. cfm? Section=Functions) offers many symposia and workshops.
Ruston will present a short film, Crisis and Control, in a workshop on a new type of living will for people living with mental illness.

She will discuss “Confronting Anosognosia: How to Get Help to Those Who Don’t Know They’re Sick” in another workshop.

24-Carat Gold Teeth Bling With No Harm

24-Carat Gold Teeth Bling With No Harm

Grillz move over. A brand new non-invasive way to show off some gold in your mouth is called "Facings". They look like gold caps but are simply bonded onto the surface of the tooth without harming the enamel.

Santa Barbara, CA (PRWEB) July 16, 2007

When Martrell Lewis went to his dentist's last week, he was prepared to have his front tooth prepared and a full frontal golden crown set onto it a few weeks later. His dentist refused to do so, and said the tooth was perfectly healthy and explained that he did not want to damage a tooth for cosmetic purposes.

Luckily the times of harming teeth for gold fronts are a thing of the past now. DecoDent Teeth Jewelry introduces its new line of Gold and White Gold Facings. "Our facings are temporary white and yellow gold flat shapes that do not require any drilling at all. The Facings are simply bonded onto the enamel and stay anywhere from 3 months to one year on the tooth," says Monika Linau, owner of DecoDent, who introduces this non-invasive way of enhancing smiles.

The 18 and 24ct gold facings come in different sizes as full or partial decorations, like a slit or an "L" and "U" shape or a full cover of the front or second tooth. The application has to be professionally done by a dentist, but is easy and only takes a few minutes.

"I like to be able to offer the Facings to our patients," says Dental Assistant Serafina Lopez, who measures and cleans the patient's teeth before her boss attaches the gold facing.

The only disadvantage is that you can't remove it like a grill, but if the shiny tooth adornment should be removed, a quick visit to the dentist will take your tooth back to its original state.

Martrell loves his new "bling" and says that now he's happy his dentist refused to destroy his tooth and he found this cool alternative. Besides being easier on the pocket, there was no Novocain needed and it didn't even hurt to put it on.

No longer is this latest body art trend only for hip-hop celebrities or film stars, DecoDent offers these shiny tooth jewels to local customers in dental offices and spas. The price for the procedure varies depending on jewel and dental fees.

For more information or photos on this latest fashion trend, contact DecoDent at (805) 637-8158 or visit www. decodent. us

Farm Bureau's Center for Food and Animal Issues backed by Farm Credit

Farm Bureau's Center for Food and Animal Issues backed by Farm Credit

Ohio Farm Bureau Federation's (OFBF) newly created Center for Food and Animal Issues received a significant boost today thanks to a $100,000 donation approved by the Board of Directors for Farm Credit Services of Mid-America, a $15.5 billion agriculture lending cooperative serving over 85,500 farmers and rural residents.

Louisville, KY (Vocus) August 14, 2009

Ohio Farm Bureau Federation's (OFBF) newly created Center for Food and Animal Issues (http://ofbf. org/media-and-publications/news-room/73/) received a significant boost today thanks to a $100,000 donation approved by the Board of Directors for Farm Credit Services of Mid-America (http://www. e-farmcredit. com/), a $15.5 billion agriculture lending cooperative serving over 85,500 farmers and rural residents.

According to a press release from the OFBF, the Center was created in May to bring together diverse interests including farmers, consumers, zoos, hunters, researchers and pet owners to make sure all voices are heard as decisions about animals are considered. The Center will develop programs and partnerships that promote dialog among all stakeholders who benefit from animals in their lives.

"It seems logical that as an agricultural lender, we would get behind the Farm Bureau's initiative. Many of our board members are livestock farmers themselves and wholeheartedly support the objectives of the Center, feeling that changes or advancements in animal well-being guidelines should be based on expert analysis, economic feasibility and sound information," said Donnie Winters, president and chief executive officer (http://www. e-farmcredit. com/Home/CorporateGovernance/tabid/227/Home/CorporateGovernance/ExecutiveLeadershipTeam/tabid/246/Default. aspx) for FCS.

Fifty percent of the pledged dollars will support the Center's recommendation to establish an Ohio Livestock Care Standards Board. This board will set standards for livestock and poultry care that take into account issues of food safety, local availability and affordability of food, and best farm management practices for animal well being. The 12-member board - made up of those involved in farming, food safety and education - will use their best knowledge in making decisions effecting animal agriculture. The measure to create an Ohio Livestock Care Standards Board will be placed on the November ballot and if approved by Ohio voters, will go into effect immediately.

The remaining contribution will support the Center's outreach and education efforts. Winters said the funding provided by Farm Credit will go a long way in helping the Center engage in public education as well as provide information about the importance of animals in our society.

"As a farmer, my objective is to provide safe, healthy and affordable food to Ohio's consumers. It's important that farmers show care and compassion for livestock while following standards set out by experts in animal agriculture," said Andrew Wilson, a member of the Farm Credit Services Board (http://www. e-farmcredit. com/HomePage/CorporateGovernance/BoardofDirectors/Biographies/tabid/725/Default. aspx#wilson) and a pork producer from Somerset, Ohio. "Livestock and poultry farmers recognize they must do more than what is expected and that customers deserve to be reassured that their food is produced responsibly and animals are well cared for," Wilson added.

Wilson mentioned that Farm Credit features several livestock customers in Farm Credit's member publication - the Journal (http://www. e-farmcredit. com/News/TheJournal/tabid/177/Default. aspx), which will be mailed to customers in mid-August. "As you read these stories, all of these customers expressed the same care and concern for the health and well being of their animals," he said. "Farmers have the responsibility to connect with the public in a positive way. We're excited about the creation of the Center for Food and Animal Issues. They will be proactive and positive in helping spread this message."

Tired of Lousy Hotel Fitness Amenities? No More!

Today the name and brand for a new travel review website for 'fit travelers, by fit travelers' was revealed. HotelGymReview. com is the name of the newest entry into the User Generated Review online travel marketplace.

Vancouver, British Columbia (PRWEB) September 4, 2009

Today the name and brand for a new travel review website 'for fit travelers, by fit travelers' was revealed. HotelGymReview. com is the name of the newest entry into the User Generated Review online travel marketplace.

Geared towards the fitness minded road warrior business traveler, plus the health oriented leisure traveler, HotelGymReview. com will launch in fall 2009 as a travel review website.

Co-founder, Matthias Morel, explains "The website will rank accommodations based on user generated reviews of the hotel's fitness amenities, which will include a variety of aspects such as the quality of a hotel's fitness center equipment. Other amenities, such as the overall hotel experience won't be disregarded, but will be a less important factor."

The concept of HotelGymReview. com came about when the two co-founders were stuck at a hotel on an extended business trip, which had great amenities for the average guest, but were less than adequate for anyone maintaining a regular fitness routine. Frustrated by this and previous experiences, the concept for HotelGymReview. com evolved.

"Our goal is to make the travel experience better for individuals who want to maintain their fitness routine and healthy lifestyle while on the road," says Co-founder, Ross Brown. "Even the seemingly best hotels offer poor services for fit and health conscious travelers. HotelGymReview. com will help fit individuals avoid these travel pitfalls."

Individuals interested in the website's service can register to be notified of its launch this fall at www. HotelGymReview. com, plus follow its development team on Twitter @HotelGymReview.

The development team includes Robert Flyman, James Copeland, Mark Klassen, Matthias Morel and Ross Brown. Travel Tales Media (TTM) is developing HotelGymReview. com.

About Travel Tales Media (TTM)

Travel Tales Media (TTM) is a Web 2.0 startup, driven by five young entrepreneurs. Based on the successful crowd-sourcing model, TTM is dedicated to developing long tail user generated review websites to better serve unfulfilled needs of travelers. Selecting a Pest Control Company for Bed Bug Treatments

Selecting a Pest Control Company for Bed Bug Treatments

Research Entomologists Provide Tips on how to Select a Pest Control Company to Exterminate Bed Bugs

Trenton, NJ (Vocus) March 24, 2010

Selecting the right pest control company for bed bug treatments can be a difficult task. Not only are bed bugs relatively new to the pest management industry, they have also proven extremely difficult to control.

Entomologists Jeff White (http://www. bedbugcentral. com/about/profile. cfm/jeff-white) and Richard Cooper (http://www. bedbugcentral. com/about/profile. cfm/richard-cooper) of Bed Bug Central (http://www. bedbugcentral. com/), a website that serves as one of the most authoritative information resources on bed bugs, provide their expert advice to consumers on how to select a pest control company for bed bug treatments.

Find a Pest Control Company: Narrowing Your Best Options
According to Andy Architect of the National Pest Management Association, there are more that 19,000 pest management firms operating in the United States. Unfortunately, these companies are not all created equally. Here are some steps from entomologist, Jeff White, to narrow your options and find the best:
Use web and telephone directories to locate several pest management firms in your area. Some may designate themselves as bed bug specialists, but this designation should only be an indicator and not a deciding factor. Only utilize companies that have been registered to apply pesticides by the pesticide regulatory agency in your state. Lacking this license should serve as an immediate red flag. To find your state’s agency visit: http://npic. orst. edu/state1.htm (http://npic. orst. edu/state1.htm)]. Search for companies that use integrated pest management (IPM) services. IPM is a form of pest management designed to minimize the use of pesticides. Companies that utilize an IPM approach are more likely to provide ongoing monitoring and a multidisciplinary approach to bed bug management (more on this later). Interviewing Companies: Questions You Should Know to Ask

Once you hire a pest management firm they may be entering your home and spraying pesticides or performing services that can cost hundreds of dollars. Interviewing the selected companies is not only your right, it is strongly advised.

Ask companies about their membership in recognized national, state, and local pest control associations. Membership to these associations requires periodic evaluation of their pest management protocols as well as ethical business practices. Some key associations to look for include: o The National Pest Management Association (NPMA), state pest management associations, QualityPro, the Better Business Bureau (BBB), and bedbugFREE. Companies may also be members of equivalent associations.
O Membership with the bebugFREE national network (http://www. bedbugcentral. com/bedbugfree/) is a particularly important affiliation to consider when bed bug treatments are desired. This membership indicates that companies are not only members of NPMA and/or QualityPro, but have also had their bed bug treatment protocols evaluated to ensure they share multidisciplinary treatment methods and philosophies similar to Bed Bug Central’s protocol.

Ask companies about their integrated pest management (IPM) approach to bed bug treatments. A good company should utilize some, if not all, of these procedures: o Use of a multidisciplinary approach beyond pesticides such as: vacuuming, cleaning, steaming, using mattress encasements instead of treating beds with pesticides, heat or Cryonite treatments, and/or fumigation.
O Insist on inspecting before quoting a final price.
O Price jobs according to findings and not just a flat fee.
O Educate you on bed bugs, the company’s inspection findings, what they will be doing, and prevention.
O Provide a written inspection report and a strategy for services rendered.
O Provide a thorough follow up program that is not based upon a minimum number of visits but rather is based upon the current status of the bed bug activity. Follow ups should continue until control or elimination is achieved.
O Inquire if children or pets are present and adjust their treatment protocol and use of pesticides accordingly.
O Have a well-defined methodology for determining when an infestation has been eliminated.
O Work with property managers to notify adjacent apartments about the problem and recommend including surrounding units for inspections and treatments.

Things You Should Do: Customer Compliance is Half the Battle

Comply with a company’s recommendations. When treating for bed bugs, companies will often recommend follow up actions customers can take to enhance the treatment process. Do your part and follow these recommendations. Ask about the company’s treatment plan options and agree on a pricing structure. Bed bugs can be a pricey pest to eliminate so the cheapest service is rarely the best. Walk your home with the pest management professional during each visit to keep track of what work is being done. Ask the pest control professional to point out any conditions that may undermine bed bug control efforts and ask for recommendations to be included in a written inspection report. Know what you and the company are each responsible for, if repairs are not in the agreement you should be provided with a list of items needed to resolve the issue. Finally, educate yourselves! Education may be the most valuable tool in the fight against bed bugs in both prevention and treatment. There is an excellent bed bug information resource available at Bed Bug Central called Bed Bugs 101 (http://www. bedbugcentral. com/bedbugs101/). Additional Resources: To Make Finding Your Way Easier
As you have probably gathered, selecting an appropriate pest management firm that is capable of effectively treating for bed bugs can be difficult.

To simplify this task, Bed Bug Central has created a website directory of like-minded pest management firms in the United States and Canada that share a similar philosophy and approach to bed bug management known as the bedbugFREE network. Follow the link to view members of the bedbugFREE network (http://www. bedbugcentral. com/bedbugfree/).

Jacobsen Eclipse® 322 Riding Greens Mower Now In Full Production

Jacobsen Eclipse® 322 Riding Greens Mower Now In Full Production

Designed with the environment and bottom line in mind

Charlotte, NC (Vocus) February 10, 2010

Jacobsen (http://www. jacobsen. com), a Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) company, announced today that its latest generation riding greens mower (http://www. jacobsen. com), the Eclipse® 322, has begun full production at the company’s manufacturing center in Charlotte, NC.

These latest mowers from Jacobsen are like nothing else in their class. Available in three models: battery, gasoline hybrid and diesel hybrid, they have been designed to lower operating costs, increase productivity and provide cutting consistency on all types of greens.

Whatever option is selected, two unique features stand out; each machine is totally free of hydraulics and they can be customized to meet the specific requirements of any golf course.

For all models the traction motor and reel motors are electrically driven, but there’s a choice of power units. In the all-electric version, six 8-volt, deep cycle lead acid batteries are used to power the 2.2 kW AC traction drive motor and the three 0.97 kW DC reel drives.

In the hybrid versions, internal combustion engines are linked to a 48-volt 5.8 kW continuous generator, which provides electric current to power the traction motor and the reel drives. There’s a choice of either a Briggs & Stratton® 14 hp air-cooled Vanguard V-twin gas engine or a Kubota® 13.3 hp 2-cylinder liquid cooled diesel engine.

Brian Melka, Jacobsen’s director of product management said,
“We’ve given golf course owners and managers a choice of power units dependant upon their specific requirements, which has to be a first for the industry. The battery version is ideal for courses with homes, hotels and condos close by and for those especially concerned about the environment. This is the ‘greenest’ mower available today, with no emissions at the point of use. This mower can reduce operating costs by up to 86% when compared to a traditional hydraulic greens mower. It saves up to 630 gallons of fuel annually, produces 26 fewer gallons of waste oil and reduces labor costs by up to 15 hours each year.

“The two hybrid versions also reduce fuel costs because they do not have large engines powering big hydraulic pumps; all they are doing is providing power to a genset to create the current to drive the relevant traction and reel motors. We have calculated that these hybrids reduce fuel use up to 180 gallons a year, produce 18 gallons less waste oil and can save up to 35% on operating costs.”

Innovation has always been at the forefront of Jacobsen's new product development and using electric motor technology totally negates the use of hydraulic oil. And that means NO leak points, NO broken hoses, NO hydraulic fluid trails across greens and NO hydraulic maintenance costs.

From the operator’s perspective, everything has been ergonomically designed to minimize fatigue; the controls are all comfortably within reach and the view to the cutting units is unobstructed for consistent and precise mowing.

These next generation greens mowers are the most technologically advanced in the golf industry. Their ‘steer by wire’ steering system eliminates the need for mechanical links, cables and hydraulic hoses, but still provides dynamic feedback to the operator, mimicking the feel of a hydraulic or cable-operated steering system.

The reel control system allows for each reel to operate independently. With the center cutting unit raised it is possible to cut in one direction, return in the other direction and give the striping effect of a walking greens mower. With all three cutting reels in use, a 62 inch cutting width is achieved. Individual reel control also allows the operator to minimize the wear pattern known as triplex ring.

The traction wheel drive is provided by an AC electric motor, which provides exceptional torque, dynamic braking and regenerative power. The parking brake is applied automatically when the vehicle stops and then released automatically when the traction pedal is engaged. This reduces operator fatigue and makes the machine very easy to get on and off.

The operator platform has been designed for ultimate comfort. The steering column tilts forward and back to provide the best operating position and the pivoting side arm control unit houses the lift and lower joystick, various switches, LCD screen and storage box complete with 12-volt DC power outlet for accessories. A padded rubber floor mat ensures secure footing when mounting or exiting the platform and a rollover protection structure (ROPS) is fitted as standard. A high intensity LED headlight provides a wide beam for illuminating work areas.

Like the Eclipse 100 series walkers, these ride-on versions feature advanced electronics including Frequency of Clip (FOC) control. This allows the course superintendent to tailor the FOC using a number of variables, but primarily this means that each machine in a fleet can be set to exactly the same FOC, providing identical finishes on all greens, irrespective of operator or machine. The result is exact consistency of finish, better playing surfaces and healthier turf.

The groundbreaking yet simple electronics of the Eclipse 322 gives the course superintendent ultimate control over mowing operations on golf greens. Mowing speeds can be controlled to a maximum of 5 mph and transport speeds up to 9 mph. Similarly, the FOC can be adjusted: from 0.05 to 0.25 in. for the 11-blade reel and 0.08 to 0.39 in. for the 7-blade option.

Maintenance has become much easier with the introduction of these new machines. Full on-board diagnostics and monitoring are displayed through an LCD screen and on LED readouts on the controllers. There are no additional diagnostic tools or attachments required. A flip up hood gives easy access to the engine bay. There’s a swing-out center unit providing easy access for routine cleaning, adjustment and overhaul. The lack of hydraulics results in fewer wearing parts and reduced oil disposal costs.

The Eclipse 322 is more than just a ride-on greens mower; it is a Total Greens Management System with Classic XP™ reels, verticut units, Quick Roll™ attachments, spikers, Turf Groomer®, various rollers, and a powered roller brush. With no hydraulics to consider, it is easier to change these attachments, which saves time and increases productivity.

Excitement over the Eclipse 322 is very high and it has already won a prestigious industry award for innovation at AGRIBEX, the international agricultural and turf maintenance exhibition held annually in Brussels, Belgium. The organizers of the exhibition, now in its 100th year, presented the Golden Buxus (Golden Box Tree) award to Jacobsen’s Belgian distributor, Firma Thomas.

Jacobsen’s vice-president, sales and marketing Martin Levy concluded,
“At Jacobsen we have listened to the marketplace and our engineers have produced a ‘next generation’ greens mower that meets the requirements of today’s golf community. We have proved that electric and hybrid technology works with our walking Eclipse range and now, with the Eclipse 322, we have a riding greens mower packed with innovative features that provide superb functionality, superior performance and reduced operating costs. ”

Simmons Study Reveals More Young Adults Saying “No” to Cigarettes

Simmons Study Reveals More Young Adults Saying “No” to Cigarettes

Study compares 18-24 year olds between 2004 and 1999.

Deerfield Beach, FL (PRWEB) May 20, 2005

Simmons, an Experian company and the most respected authority on the behavior of the American consumer, today revealed that more young adults, 18-24, are avoiding cigarette smoking than the same age group five years earlier, according to the latest Simmons National Consumer Survey (NCS).

“We can definitely see a downward trend,” said Bill Livek, Co-CEO of Simmons Market Research. “There are numerous reasons that could explain it, including of course, a higher awareness of the health risks. But, whatever the reason, it seems more and more young people are choosing not smoke cigarettes.”

According to the NCS:

• In 2004, 75 percent of respondents, between the ages of 18 and 24, said they did not smoke. That is up 11 percent over the same age group in 1999.

• In 2004, 22 percent of respondents, between the ages of 18 and 24, said they did smoke. That is down six percent over the same age group in 1999.

Kinnebrew, the self-described “Hardest Working Man on the Internet” created the website in the fall of 2001 and over the past nine years the company has grown into one of the largest Black-oriented shopping sites on the internet. They now offer over 8,000 unique African American related products. Their line includes: artwork, figurines, Christmas cards & decorations, and Black History memorabilia.

It’s A Black Thang. com (http://www. itsablackthang. com) grossed over 400K in 2009 and is set to double that amount in 2010. Kinnebrew attributes much of their success to hard work and dedication. However, he credits President Obama’s economic policies as a key component of their strategy for survival during the economic downturn. Some of the policies he cites include:

1. The portion of the Economic Recovery Package that’s helping communities expand broadband connectivity is an obvious plus for any internet based business.

2. The Credit Card Reform Act is having an impact because it’s helping to empower consumers by reducing fees and restricting interest rate increases. In addition, the new requirements for banks to show balance payoff timeframes has led to better credit management. Credit cards are a vital component of internet commerce and the White House-led improvements in the industry have resulted in better consumer protection and awareness. The Credit Card Reform Act has created a wiser consumer with greater spending power.

3. Several of the Presidents small business tax credits have had a direct impact on their business. The tax relief and simplification for cell phone deductions has made it much easier for them to deduct their business related cell phone expenses. There’s also a new deduction for health insurance costs that will help them rein in their health-care expenses and lower their taxes. The extension and expansion of the ability to immediately expense capital investments has also been helpful for them and for many other businesses. The capital expensing limit was raised from $250,000 to $500,000 and the increase was extended through 2011. The limit was slated to drop to a mere $25,000 next year and then possibly be phased out the following year. The President’s economic team also provided small businesses a huge capital gains tax cut. Kinnebrew and others can now exclude 75% of their capital gains from tax liability and they can exclude 100% if the investments are held for at least five years.

Kinnebrew says, “President Obama's economic initiatives have had a positive impact on It’s A Black Thang. com (http://www. itsablackthang. com) not only financially but also by creating a level of certainty about the future. We can better forecast our future tax liabilities and we can make more aggressive business investments because we know we will be able to write most of them off. We also have peace of mind knowing that our capital gains will not be wiped away through excessive taxation. The President’s economic team has done a masterful job creating an atmosphere that has helped small businesses like ours navigate the perfect economic storm and find a way to not only survive but to thrive.”

Eliza Kendall, founder of ElizaJ Wins WomenÂ’s Business Hall of Fame Award

Eliza Kendall, founder of ElizaJ Wins WomenÂ’s Business Hall of Fame Award

Eliza Kendall, the Cape Cod based entrepreneur and president of ElizaJ company, has won the prestigious WomenÂ’s Business Hall of Fame Start Up/Small Business award. KendallÂ’s fast growing company provides upscale, deliverable restrooms all along the Eastern Seaboard and is now granting franchises throughout the U. S.

(PRWEB) December 5, 2003

BOSTON AND CAPE COD, MA; DECEMBER 3, 2003... S.

In a coup that still has her blushing like many of the brides she caters to in her special event upscale deliverable restroom service, Kendall was presented with the WomenÂ’s Business Hall of Fame Start Up/Small Business Award 2003 at a ceremony held at BostonÂ’s Downtown Club.

Kendall, a former special events manager, founded ElizaJ (formerly Leave it to Liza) in 1997 after noticing that there was a continual need for affordable, impeccable, upscale self-contained restrooms at many of the events she organized. She has carved herself a niche by providing a necessity that is refined with amenities.

Now, earning more than a quarter of a million dollars last year in a business that is seasonal (May to October) Kendall caters to a steady stream of wedding and corporate clients. Her esteemed client list includes General Motors, IBM, Microsoft, Genzyme, Smith Kline Beecham, Sprint, McKinsey and Company, Bain and Company, GE, Fidelity, State Street Bank, Paul Wiley and the Kennedy family. Being a former events manager, not only does Kendall understand the “battle” conditions in making events run smoothly, she oftentimes serves as a walking Rolodex to clients, which greatly adds to the value of her services.

“Prior to ElizaJ, I had been in the event business for 7 years and witnessed the stunned reaction of folks who, when pointed to an outdoor restroom, gasped aloud. People in formal attire expect better, much better than what they’ve seen on a construction site. Women in formal dress want to be able to sit without wincing. Outdoor events are only gaining in popularity and the demand for attractive, deliverable restrooms is significant,” said Eliza Kendall, founder and president of ElizaJ.

ElizaJ provides clients with affordable, top of the line deliverable restrooms for special events. Focusing on what women want, the exterior of each unit/trailer is white or linen-white in color and interior, white with dark blue and the outside may be decorated with lattice-work or Ficus trees embellished with white lights. Yards of white tulle swags can be draped around the vent pipes. Each restroom caters to women and contains mirrors, fresh cut flowers at the sinks; mats and wicker wastebaskets; designer soaps and lotions; name brand soft toilet and tissue paper and air fresheners. Music may be piped in.

But a superior product is not all. ElizaJ provides the best in customer service, offering quotes within 24-hours of request and courteous, prompt delivery and pick-up of her impeccable restrooms.

“When I started in the special events business twelve years ago, it never occurred to me that I might win such an award. I’m both thrilled and honored.” Kendall remarked.

ElizaJ’s self-contained restrooms have been described as “elegant, refined and discreet” by a long client list of caterers, party rental companies, wedding planners and other high-end event organizers. With state of the art operations and a successful and clearly defined business strategy, ElizaJ is currently granting franchises throughout the U. S.

“Our franchise program is an ideal business opportunity for someone who is seeking additional income. From teachers, firefighters and at-home mothers to those looking to be their own boss, set their own hours and join the ranks of proud entrepreneurs, ElizaJ is a unique income opportunity,” noted Kendall. “Take it from me, you never know what you’ll be able to achieve until you take that first step.”

Free E-Book Explores Health Benefits of Wheat Grass for People and Pets

Free E-Book Explores Health Benefits of Wheat Grass for People and Pets

Authors publish comprehensive guide on health benefits, consumer demand, and ways to incorporate wheat grass into diets for people and their pets. Free e-book available at www. bellrockgrowers. com.

San Diego, Calif. (PRWEB) October 3, 2008

Ever wondered why your cat can't resist nibbling on your favorite houseplants? Or why your dog tugs at the leash to chomp on a mouthful of lawn grass? While these behaviors may surprise some pet owners, experts on nutrition and pet care say your furry companions may be making desperate attempts to say: 'We need our greens!'

To help explain this seemingly odd indulgence, the pet industry's pioneer suppliers of live and packaged green nutrition products are launching an online educational campaign on the mutual benefits and uses of wheat grass for people and their pets. Bell Rock Growers Co-founders Catherine Hoffmann and Marty Walls have co-authored a new e-book, Why Green Nutrition? Exploring the Nutritional Benefits of Wheat Grass for People and Animals (http://www. bellrockgrowers. com/pdfs/ebook. pdf). The e-book is available for free downloads at www. bellrockgrowers. com.

"While a growing number of people are including wheat grass and other green foods in their own diets, many often neglect to make similar considerations with their pets' diets. Most simply aren't aware of health benefits of green nutrition for animals," said Hoffmann.

Over the past two decades, wheat grass has surged in popularity from juice bars to home garden shops. Now pets are getting in on the wheat grass craze as more people learn about the powerful healing qualities of this leafy green for dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, and other small animals.

Wheat grass contains high concentrations of chlorophyll, enzymes, anti-oxidant nutrients, vitamins A, B-complex, C, E, and K, minerals and a complete set of amino acids. So how do these nutrients add up to healthier, happier pets? The powerful nutrients contained in wheat grass are known to promote healthy night vision; improve gum, skin and coat health; neutralize infection; heal wounds; and decrease inflammation, among other benefits.

The 'Why Green Nutrition?' e-book (http://www. bellrockgrowers. com/pdfs/ebook. pdf) includes a compilation of research on the benefits of wheat grass, results of a national survey on pet owners' enthusiasm for green nutrition, tips on growing wheat grass, and expert advice on ways to introduce it to pets.

About Bell Rock Growers

Holliday Recognized for Advancing Sustainability Practices in Industry

New York, NY (Vocus) November 12, 2009

The World Resources Institute (WRI) has awarded the Courage to Lead Award to DuPont Chair Charles O. Holliday, Jr. for advancing sustainability practices in industry. The award was presented at the WRI Annual Dinner in New York City.

“Chad Holliday has shown how an open-minded, visionary leader can take an iconic company powerfully and profitably toward sustainability,” said Jonathan Lash, president of WRI. “In doing so, he has made DuPont an important and admired model.”

“Chad brought his unique perspective to DuPont’s businesses and made the concept of sustainable growth central to our mission as a company,” said DuPont CEO Ellen Kullman. “Chad convincingly made sustainability a valuable business imperative.”

According to WRI, Holliday’s accomplishments include transforming DuPont from a fossil fuels and chemicals company to a science company and delivering sustainable solutions that help others reduce their environmental footprint. Along the way, Holliday set innovative market-facing sustainability goals for the company; became a pioneering voice for economically sound environmental policy – in particular climate change; was chairman of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development; and co-wrote an important book on sustainability and business, “Walking the Talk.”

DuPont – one of the first companies to publicly establish environmental goals 19 years ago – has broadened its sustainability commitments beyond internal footprint reduction to include market-driven targets for both revenue and research and development investment. The goals are tied directly to business growth, specifically to the development of safer and environmentally improved new products for key global markets.

DuPont is a science-based products and services company. Diet Fallacy #8: “Low-Carb Products Will Help You Lose Weight”

Diet Fallacy #8: “Low-Carb Products Will Help You Lose Weight”

“We've never been fatter, never so unhealthy--we are living in the Dietary Dark Ages” says iconoclastic diet guru, Ori Hofmekler, author of bestselling The Warrior Diet http://www. dragondoor. com/b17.html. And a lot of the problem lies with the mistaken belief that low-carb products are the answer to fat loss.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) August 16, 2005 -

“We've never been fatter, never so unhealthy-we are living in the Dietary Dark Ages” says iconoclastic diet guru, Ori Hofmekler, author of bestselling The Warrior Diet http://www. dragondoor. com/b17.html (http://www. dragondoor. com/b17.html).

According to Warrior Diet author Ori Hofmekler, we're living in an era which may go down in history as the Dietary Dark Ages.

Even though more people today are on a diet than ever before, the numbers of the overweight, of the clinically obese, of the diabetic and of those suffering from cardiovascular disease, are at an all time high.

Ironically, the darkest days in human diet history have seen the greatest-ever explosion of “health” products-in particular the all-pervasive low-carb offerings.

Low-carb products appeal to low-carb believers who desperately try to minimize carb consumption, assuming that carbs are the culprit for fat gain. Yet, in spite of the widely advertised low-carb diet and the massive consumption of low-carb products, most low-carb dieters fail to maintain a lean body.

Statistically, in the long run a low-carb dieter will most likely suffer from a fat gain rebound, gaining more weight then they initially lost. There are two major reasons for the failure of low-carb products to ensure longterm fat loss.

One: Low-carb diets adversely affect the human capacity to generate energy. build tissue and maintain optimum health (See diet fallacy # 5).

Two: Low-carb products are often made with low-grade carb substitutes, chemical additives, artificial sweeteners, sugar alcohol and often hydrogenated oil.

Low-carb products, in particular protein bars, typically have a funky aftertaste-not to mention severe adverse side effects such as indigestion, bloating and nausea.

Due to their often-inferior nutritional composition and high chemical content, low-carb products may increase the overall metabolic stress on the liver. That may lead to the accumulation of metabolites such as coenzyme A and acetate as well as estrogen chemicals in the liver, which causes insulin resistance and accumulation of stubborn fat and abdominal fat, respectively.

Furthermore, for many overweight people who suffer from Dismetabolic-Syndrome, following a rigid low-carb/high fat diet may be the worst thing they can do.

Researchers at Wallenberg lab, Lund University, Malmo, Sweden recently published recently an assay stating that individuals who suffer from Dismetabolic-Syndrome generally have the typical symptoms such as obesity / abdominal obesity as well as dislipidemia - impaired fat metabolism with a high level of serum lipids.

For that matter, any application of uncontrolled high fat/low-carb diet in these cases may unfortunately accelerate the damage by increasing the levels of serum lipids, which makes patients more insulin resistant and prone to gain more fat, in particular abdominal fat.

In conclusion:

Don't attempt to fool your body, stay away from products loaded with chemicals or cheap carb substitutes. If you suffer from abdominal obesity or dislipideimia, high fat/low-carb products could be your worst choice.
