(PRWEB) May 11, 2002

Portland, Oregon — May 8, 2002 — The AeA (formerly the American Electronics Association) Oregon Council and the OGI School of Science and Engineering (formerly Oregon Graduate Institute of Science and Technology) are pleased to announce that Ray Bingham, president and CEO of Cadence Design Systems, Inc. (NYSE:CDN) and Jeff Henley, executive vice president and CFO of Oracle Corporation (Nasdaq:ORCL), will be keynote speakers at the May 16, 2002 event "The Life of a CFO: What You Didn’t Learn in School". The day long event, being held at the Oregon Zoo, is aimed at technology company CFOs, CEOs, and executives.

According to OGIÂ’s Jack Raiton, senior fellow, department of Management in Science and Technology and Chair of the event, "This conference is timely, given the Enron debacle and the widespread interest in accounting practices, the rules of financial disclosure, and Wall Street research practices. WeÂ’re delighted to have so many high-caliber presenters at the forum, including Tom Potiowsky, Oregon State Economist, and many of the areaÂ’s leading executives and Wall Street analysts. ItÂ’s a must-attend event for the regionÂ’s technology company executives."

The forumÂ’s proceeds will benefit the Jim Hurd Memorial Endowment Fund for Entrepreneurial Leadership at OGI. In 2001, the event raised $15,800 for the endowment. The endowment promotes the development of entrepreneurial spirit and leadership skills in Oregon through the Department of Management in Science and Technology (MST) at OGI. It also provides operational support for the Jim Hurd New Venture Competition, a business plan contest, and supports the Center for Entrepreneurial Growth at OGI, which promotes economic growth in Oregon via university technology commercialization and technology start-up companies.

The endowment was established in 2001 in honor of Oregon technology business leader Jim Hurd, who died in 2000. Hurd was president and chief executive officer of Hillsboro-based Planar Systems; 1993Â’s High Technology Executive of the Year; a former chair of AeA Oregon Council; and an OGI trustee.

"I am very enthusiastic about the New Venture Competition that the endowment supports, where start-up companies have a chance to present their business plans to VCs, successful entrepreneurs, and corporate investors," said Bill Walker, chairman of the board of Planar Systems, which provided seed money for the Hurd Endowment. "Over this past year, eight teams, comprised of more than 40 students, prepared eight business plans. Two of the teams reached the semifinals of the New Venture Championships sponsored by the Lundquist Center for entrepreneurship, within the University of OregonÂ’s Charles H. Lundquist School of Business."

Roseberry Spa have recently started organising Spa Days at their Health Spa, which is located in the Shropshire countryside, that offer something not available in the district. If you believe that part of being pampered is to feel special, and important, then this unique concept is just up your street.

The Spa Day packages that are available at Roseberry Spa let you have the Spa to yourselves. This is a great concept, it's not like going to a 'Hotel Chain Spa,' where you will be one of many, if there's two people on a Day Package then you will be the only people there apart from the two therapists. Lesta, the Spa owner, said, "We believe the personal attention that our clients get creates a very special experience, one which we have not seen on offer anywhere else."

The 'personal' touch also extends to the treatments that are available. You are presented with an extensive treatment list in which you can choose the treatments for the day. Roseberry Spa has a dedicated team of skin care therapists that have trained at the international dermal institute. Dermalogica® Skin care products, which are widely regarded as one of the best in the world today, are used extensively at the Spa.

Research and Markets: In Europe and the US, the Total Number of Missed Occasions per person per year is Growing

Research and Markets: In Europe and the US, the Total Number of Missed Occasions per person per year is Growing

Research and Markets (http://www. researchandmarkets. com/reports/c20707) has announced the addition of The Future Of Mealtimes to their offering.

Dublin (PRWEB) July 15, 2005

Research and Markets (http://www. researchandmarkets. com/reports/c20707 (http://www. researchandmarkets. com/reports/c20707)) has announced the addition of The Future Of Mealtimes to their offering.

Consumers' mealtime occasions are changing as new priorities and work patterns emerge. "Flexi-eating" is becoming more common as consumers base their mealtimes around their lifestyles rather than having structured mealtimes. Mealtimes are becoming more fragmented, informal and less important to consumers as other activities take priority

This report provides a comprehensive analysis of trends in consumer behavior and the subsequent impact of these changes have on mealtime occasions in Europe and the US. In-depth quantitative and qualitative analysis of mealtime occasions is included to reveal the most profitable consumer groups for manufacturers to target. The report includes an extensive discussion of best practice NPD and marketing campaigns that have successfully targeted changing mealtime occasions. Detailed action points explain how to effectively position a brand to maximize sales in meal and snack categories

In Europe and the US, the total number of missed occasions per person per year is forecast to grow by 2.0% and 2.3% respectively over the next five years. Consumers' hectic lifestyles are driving this trend as traditional mealtimes are becoming unstructured, informal and less important to consumers.

A 2005 consumer survey revealed that only 12% of consumers rated "convenience" as the most important factor in their purchase decision. "Taste" was considered to be the most important factor by 56% of consumers and 36% rated "health" as number one. Thus, manufacturers need to provide quality and health in addition to convenience.

Consumers have become more demanding and are seeking products that provide them with an experience in addition to basic nourishment at mealtime. Consumers are seeking to derive not only functional but also emotional benefits from the products they consume; for example, those that not only "do good" but also make you "feel good".

This report can help you understand changing mealtime occasions and how to target emerging, untapped consumer behaviors. Improve your marketing by understanding the latest consumer trends to influence European and US consumers eating habits and learn how to tailor your NPD and marketing campaigns to more accurately target profitable mealtime occasions.

RN Sisters Bring Low-Tech Innovations to New Nurses and Nursing Students

RN Sisters Bring Low-Tech Innovations to New Nurses and Nursing Students

Two Sisters take on nursing medical malpractice challenge by introducing low tech solution to keep new nurse's. Their Product RNReport card introduces standardized shift reporting and note taking to help keep new nurses organized in their day to day tasks. RNReport Card is more efficient by standardizing the note taking and shift reporting process. It fits conveniently in the pocket of your scrubs and keeps all of your patient information handy. RNReport Card was conceptualized in November 2008 by a floor nurse to provide a system of organization aimed at decreasing clinical errors, nursing stressors, and increasing efficiency. Information on the company can be accessed through the RNReport Card website at www. RNReportCard. com.

Miami, FL (PRWEB) April 27, 2009

Marsha Elson-Joseph, BSN, a graduate of the University of Miami School of Nursing and Lisa Elson, RN a recent graduate of Miami Dade College School of Nursing are bringing low-tech innovations to the nursing profession.

After just two years as an oncology nurse, Marsha has experienced first hand the many unforeseen challenges facing her profession. "The transition from student nurse to joining the ranks as Registered Nurse is very overwhelming initially. Many new nurses find themselves frustrated and unable to cope with the realities of nursing. Time and again there are shortages in nursing, and the high turnover may stem from nurses being ill-equipped."

With that in mind, the two sisters set out to develop RNReport Card, a lightweight, 5 x 7 booklet that would help bridge the communication gap by standardizing what and how patient data is shared. RNReport Card provides a systematic way for nurses to manage patient information at a moment's notice. The creators of the RNReport Card believe the first step to bringing change to the field of nursing is to introduce standardization across the processes of "Note Taking" and "Shift Reporting". RNReport Card improves communication among doctors and nurses as well as assisting nurses to provide more efficient care to patients and their families. RNReport Card helps nurses to establish a more effective way to manage their day-to-day tasks ensuring a less stressful environment for the nurse at any stage in her career.  Increased efficiency in the healthcare process leads to better service and a more positive work environment. "Work smarter not harder". RNReport Card helps new nurses do just that.

RNReport Card is a tool that standardizes the note taking and shift reporting process. It fits conveniently into the pocket of your scrubs and keeps all of your patient information handy. It has room for everything you need to know about your patient (patient name, room, diagnosis, procedures, assessment, consults, medication times, drips, IV fluids, etc).

RNReport Card was conceptualized in November 2008 by a floor nurse to provide a system of organization aimed at decreasing clinical errors, nursing stressors, and increasing efficiency. Information about the company can be accessed through the RNReport Card website at www. RNReportCard. com.

Reduce Stress during the Holidays - Start 2003 With the New Workout for the Soul Fitness Program

Reduce Stress during the Holidays - Start 2003 With the New Workout for the Soul Fitness Program

A new workout program for soul fitness scientifically proven to improve health as well as bring longevity, peace and fulfillment, that can be done in only 10 minutes a day.

(PRWEB) December 25, 2002

Health and happiness are our birthright. However, people have frantic, fast-paced lives and donÂ’t have the time to deal with their negative emotions of stress, frustration and anxiety, which often result in breakdown and sickness.

Most people now understand the mind-body-spirit connection and how our emotions affect our health. If we are happy and loving, we can defeat even the ageing process and live long and meaningful lives. According to the December 2 issue of Newsweek, nearly half of all U. S. adults prefer complementary healing methods (some 600 million a year) to drug-based medicine, and we spend about $30 billion a year doing this.

The good news is that we can now bring health and healing into our lives at no cost, and for only a few minutes of your time per day!

The revolutionary book Workout for the Soul, Eight Steps to Inner Fitness, by Chrissie Blaze teaches how to bring love, joy, success and fulfillment into your life by performing a powerful, daily ten-minute soul workout!

Blaze teaches a simple step-by-step power program to “generate love” and achieve spiritual “muscles” in our fast-paced, "need-it-now" society when we now live with daily threats of terrorism and war. According to the Institute of Hearth Math, the “energy” of love affects us at the level of DNA, switching all the codes on and keeping us healthy, vibrant and youthful.

Blaze explains how this daily plan for inner fitness improves your quality of life, bringing protection and healing to yourself and your family! She explains why it is even more important to work out your soul, than your physical body.

In this first workout program of its kind, Workout for the Soul teaches practical methods to:

· Increase vitality and to retard the ageing process – without surgery!

· Enhance your sensitivity, intuition and creativity – without classes!

· Unlock your vast inner potential to become more successful in all you do.

· Use the “energy” of love to transform yourself, and become a healer and peacemaker.

· Become more dynamic and magnetically alive, and much more.

Workout for the Soul offers the first soul workout ever devised. In just 10 minutes, you are given practical tools and practices to achieve soul fitness – which can improve every area of your life!

The author, Chrissie Blaze, is a regular presenter, lecturer, broadcaster and healer for over twenty years. For further information, please visit www. chrissieblaze. com.

Local Bellingham Research Firm Wins Research Contract in Louisiana

(PRWEB) April 8, 2005

Applied Research Northwest, a Bellingham-based social scientific research firm, has been chosen to conduct a state-wide study for the Louisiana Department of Social Services. ARN is partnering with the Center for the Support of Families on the project.

The year-long study will comprehensively evaluate the stateÂ’s current processes for working with child support cases, and then make recommendations about how to improve the system and make it more efficient. Louisiana is different from Washington State in that both the Department of Social Services and District AttorneyÂ’s offices have separate responsibilities in setting up and ensuring support is awarded and delivered to custodial parents.

Dr. Pamela Jull, manager and co-owner of Applied Research Northwest, is pleased to be working on the project. “We at ARN are very excited to contribute our analytic and research skills to such an interesting investigation.”

The Center for the Support of Families (http://www. csfsite. org/ (http://www. csfsite. org/)), with offices across the United States, works with government and private agencies to enhance support services to families. Applied Research Northwest (http://www. arnorthwest. com/ (http://www. arnorthwest. com/)) specializes in healthcare, environmental, educational, polling and program evaluation research primarily for government and non-profit agencies.

Health IT Experts to Discuss Hidden Data Risks at Indiana HIMSS Conference

Health IT Experts to Discuss Hidden Data Risks at Indiana HIMSS Conference

EProtex Executive Director Earl Reber to moderate discussion on “Uncovering the blind spots of connected medical devices and other hidden risks”

Indianapolis, IN (PRWEB) November 17, 2010

eProtex, the nation’s first data security company specializing in the hidden risks of connected devices, announced today that Earl Reber, the company’s executive director, will lead a panel of health IT experts in exploring hidden data security threats that have crippled many healthcare providers. The presentation will take place at the Nov.18–19 INHIMSS & IHIMA Conference being held in Columbus, Ind.

As healthcare providers scramble to meet new security mandates, independent audits reveal a collective failure in electronic data protection as it relates to medical devices connected to a healthcare network. Protected electronic patient health information (ePHI) data losses, patient misdiagnoses or diversions, and hefty penalties—including incarceration—all can result from failure to protect networked devices.

“Nearly 80 million health records were breached last year because threats were not properly assessed,” said Reber. “We continue to see the domino effect of data leaks and misfires reported by our industry,” he added. “With healthcare providers struggling to protect patient data and observe HIPAA and HITECH mandates,” he concluded, “Health IT professionals can’t afford not to have a firm grasp on the risks that have plagued many of their peers.”

Joining Reber are industry experts Jeffrey S. Rose, MD, vice president of clinical excellence and informatics for Ascension Health; Jeffrey W. Short, JD, attorney at Hall, Render, Killian, Heath & Lyman, PC; Monica Arrowsmith, I-HITEC director at Purdue University; and Derek Brost, chief security officer at eProtex.

In addition to exploring patient and security risks unique to connected medical devices, the panel will discuss potential outcomes through real-world examples, action steps to minimize or reverse risks, and tactics for managing implementation obstacles and objections.

The panel’s discussion outcomes and insights will be available after the event at http://www. eprotex. com.

New Web Site Extols the Health Benefits of Honey

New Web Site Extols the Health Benefits of Honey

Honey-Health. com, a newly launched Web site, explores the numerous health benefits of natural honey.

Pleasant Ridge, MI (PRWEB) June 29, 2005

Honey-Health. com, a newly launched Web site, extols the various health benefits of natural honey, detailing its nutritive values and exploring its role as a primary food in traditional diets.

"A drop of honey, they say, will not sweeten the ocean, but it can do wonders for your health," says Sharon Stajda of Honey-Health. com (available at http://www. honey-health. com (http://www. honey-health. com)). "At Honey-Health. com, we aim to be a comprehensive resource on the marvelous health effects of natural honey."

Honey, Stajda points out, is an easily assimilated carbohydrate compound, and a most practical and effective aliment to generate energy. Honey also helps human beings create enzymes and acts as a germicidal agent. Its nutritive advantages are under-appreciated, however, and Stajda recommends frequent – if not daily – use of honey in one's diet.

The Web site goes into great detail on the physical and chemical aspects of honey, explaining its various sources and types. Honey-Health. com also highlights the role of honey in the modern diet, and specifically in the diets of children and young infants. "Honey was in fact used as a medicine in the Middle Ages," says Stajda, and the Web site draws extensively from history and literature to make for an informative yet readable health resource.

"The very nature of honey – its manufacture and chemical structure – makes it an important supplement to our daily diet," says Stajda. "And if that were not enough, good, fresh honey is also one of the most delicious aliments known to man. Nothing else combines taste and nutrition to the same extent as honey."

Bio-era Launches Thinking Ahead: An "Early Warning Service" for Novel H1N1 Pandemic Influenza

Bio-era Launches Thinking Ahead: An "Early Warning Service" for Novel H1N1 Pandemic Influenza

Impacts of H1N1 on Business and the Economy Could Reach Hundreds of Billions of Dollars - New Service will Monitor and Analyze Developments for their Potential Significance for Businesses and Markets

Cambridge, MA (PRWEB) June 23, 2009

Bio Economic Research Associates, or bio-era (www. bio-era. net), a leading independent research and advisory firm providing analysis on the future of the global bio economy, today announced the launch of a multi-client service to track the potential impacts of H1N1 pandemic influenza for service participants, markets and industries.

The service will provide independent, expert research and analysis on the on-going crisis, and the possible financial and business implications of the H1N1 influenza pandemic - both generally, and for the specific interests and markets of participating clients.

The service will provide:
Independent, expert analysis integrating the latest developments on the evolution of the disese event, public, media, and government perceptions of the degree of threat posed by the disease, and the reactions and responses - and the associated economic and business impacts Scenarios for the evolution of pandemic influenza and the key implications for participating businesses, market participants, and investors. Regular teleconferences with bio-era experts and participants to present and discuss the latest developments and bio-era analysis. Occasional roundtables to share best practices Under the leadership and direction of bio-era President, Stephen Aldrich, the service will deliver a steady stream of bio-era research and analysis from a distinguished expert faculty, as well as highly plausible scenarios for the evolution of the novel H1N1 pandemic, how government and public health agencies and institutions are responding, the implications for service participants - and how they can adapt.

Participants are expected to include companies with significant market exposure to trade and economic disruptions, investors, public health officials, researchers and analysts engaged in business planning, risk management, market analysis, and trading.

Novel H1N1 and the Risks of a Global Pandemic:

Now that the World Health Organization has declared the outbreak of novel variant H1N1 "swine" influenza to be a pandemic, the issue is "so what?" How will the spread of this pandemic influenza affect human societies and economies -- even specific markets, industries, and companies?

We know from past experience with SARS and H5N1, and from many studies carried out over the past few years (see attached bio-era Senate Testimony), that pandemic influenza can have enormous consequences for global trade and travel, with extremely large economic impacts. Precisely because this is so, a systematic approach to developing an "early warning" system with respect to the evolution of the disease event - its current and future trajectory, the local and global implications, and the reactions these provoke - can provide enormous benefits and opportunities to those prepared to act.

Learning What to Watch

This service is designed to help stakeholders address the following questions:

What indicators should the business community be watching with respect to the unfolding H1N1 pandemic? What specific actions (travel advisories, quarantines, travel restrictions, etc.) are governments and public health authorities initiating, and what should we expect going forward? How are local outbreaks of novel H1N1 changing perceptions and the degree of fear generally? How are perceptions and fears driving the response to the disease? How and when will fears and the responses they provoke impact regional and global economies and the businesses operating within and/or interconnected with these regions? How should businesses and market participants adapt? By delivering a scenarios framework and logic to bound plausible outcomes, and providing continuous, expert evaluation of new developments in a manner which directly relates back to the scenarios framework - referencing key signposts, and signaling important forks in the road -- the service aims to improve commercial and business decision-making ahead of time - particularly in an environment likely to see a heightening of conflicting information, rumor, and fear.

To enroll in the service, or for more information, please visit http://www. bio-era. net (http://www. bio-era. net) or contact Stephen Aldrich or Grant Hastings at 617 876-2400.

Displaysense, the Hertfordshire-based retail display provider, is looking to play its part in stimulating the UK by sourcing office display equipment that provides a healthier, enjoyable working environment.

Displaysense, the country's leading supplier of shelving units (http://www. displaysense. co. uk/shelving-and-racking/?utm_source=internal&utm_medium=PR&utm_campaign=homeoffice (http://www. displaysense. co. uk/shelving-and-racking/?utm_source=internal&utm_medium=PR&utm_campaign=homeoffice)) and display cabinets (http://www. displaysense. co. uk/Display-Cases-and-Cabinets/?utm_source=internal&utm_medium=PR&utm_campaign=homeoffice (http://www. displaysense. co. uk/Display-Cases-and-Cabinets/?utm_source=internal&utm_medium=PR&utm_campaign=homeoffice)), is encouraging businesses around the country to create more home like environments for their employees to work in, in order to encourage productivity and increase motivation.

To do this, the company is launching its "Late Summer Break Out" campaign that will see the introduction of ergonomic computer desks as well as other display items that might be expected at home such as plants, comfy sofas, paintings, lamps and other relaxing display equipment (http://www. displaysense. co. uk/?utm_source=internal&utm_medium=PR&utm_campaign=homeoffice (http://www. displaysense. co. uk/?utm_source=internal&utm_medium=PR&utm_campaign=homeoffice)).

In order to spread the "Late Summer Break Out" message, Displaysense will also be sending leaflets out to a selection of their business customers highlighting the importance of a relaxed, fun working environment. The leaflet will show how they can make the most out of their office space by using some of the new Displaysense display systems (http://www. displaysense. ie/?utm_source=internal&utm_medium=PR&utm_campaign=homeoffice (http://www. displaysense. ie/?utm_source=internal&utm_medium=PR&utm_campaign=homeoffice)), as well as ideas to assist in motivating the workforce.

Steve Whittle, the marketing manager at Displaysense, commented on the concept, "A lot of people spend the majority of their days at work and constant exposure to these stressful environments can not only lead to a loss in productivity, but also serious health issues. Having fun is a basic human requirement and we believe that businesses should do more to make employees comfortable and provide a slice of home and pleasurable places to escape within their office environment."

Motivational theorist, Abraham Maslow, noted in the 1940's that employees have certain criteria that need fulfilling in the work environment and the basic psychological needs, such as having fun, are the most important requirements of all.

A number of businesses use these more relaxed environments to stimulate idea generation. Call centre businesses might have a games room to help staff have a break from the routine, ensuring they return to work fresh and stimulated.

Steve Whittle said: "Why should it be left to such businesses to lead the way? In the present difficult times, you need all the help you can get to ensure your staff are creative in problem solving and motivated to work". Displaysense itself regularly has lunch time table tennis tournaments to generate staff morale and healthy competition.

Regardless of the size of the business, the UK is reportedly working longer hours than other countries in the EU, emphasising the need for a more relaxed workplace.

Introducing 11 Simple Summer Ideas to Prepare for 3rd Grade Success

Introducing 11 Simple Summer Ideas to Prepare for 3rd Grade Success

Most families "take the summer off", preventing 3rd graders from maintaining learning continuity that is so important to their success. Here are 11 simple things to do this summer to keep their focus on learning and prepare them for 3rd grade success.

Cincinnati, OH (PRWEB) July 1, 2007

Imagine a child entering the 3rd grade prepared to excel beyond their classmates. Wouldn't it be amazing to see all kids' transition effortlessly into the third grade?

The truth of the matter is that most families "take the summer off", preventing their 3rd grader from maintaining learning continuity that is so important to their success.

Any expert will agree there are a few simple things every family can do this summer to keep their focus on learning and prepare them for 3rd grade success. Sit back, relax and enjoy these 11 simple ideas for third grade success from www.3rdGradeSuccess. com:

11. Celebrate Their Success
The school year they just completed was almost 10% of their total life span. Imagine how long it must have felt to them? Successfully completing the 2nd grade is an accomplishment that should be celebrated. Take time to recognize their accomplishment in a manner that's special to them. Recognize what they were able to achieve and shower praise on them for doing so.

10. Spend Time with Them
It was a long school year with plenty of homework, after school activities, sick and snow days and other "challenges" for parents as well. The weather is nice and it seems there are so many new demands on our time. Many parents feel they deserve a "summer break" and make the mistake of allowing friends, camps and other programs to fill their child's summer.

Third graders need attention and time from their parents. They need to know that they are loved and that they will always be there for them. Praise them generously and always compliment them for their efforts. Use the summer as an opportunity to explore new places, do new things and experience life -- together.

9. Challenge Them Physically
Use the warm weather as an excuse to get physical. Today's children spend more than enough time indoors -- watching TV, playing video games, working on the computer. Help them develop a love for the outdoors, for physical activity and for the challenge of competition.

Don't start planning their Olympic debut or All Star status just yet, but get them involved in activities that challenge their physical limits. If they can swim, encourage them to join the swim team. If they like to run, encourage them to enter a race. If they play soccer, baseball or other organized sport, encourage them to teach their skills to a younger sibling or neighbor. Help create likes, skills and habits that will keep them healthy for life.

8. Read Aloud to Them Daily
Third graders learn about different types of punctuation (commas, question marks, exclamation marks, etc.). It's important for them to learn how to use expression and punctuation to give meaning to the text. One way to do this is to continue to read aloud to them -- remember how nice it was to cuddle up with them for a bed time story? If they'll allow it, do it until they think it's for "little kids". It's also a good way to bond with them.

Encourage them to read aloud from familiar books. This will help increase their reading speed, comprehension and confidence. Newspapers and magazines are also good for practicing reading. Reading articles will also help them learn about the world they live in and provide some good topics for family discussions at the dinner table. Help them practice reading just like they would practice a sport or musical instrument.

7. Understand Their Learning Style
Everyone has a style in which they learn and process new information best and most efficiently. There are three main types of learning:
Visual - Eyes  Auditory - Ears  Physical - Touch

A child's default learning style is pretty easy to determine. Watch their behavior when they are presented with a new piece of information. Which of the three learning styles do they use most?

Identifying their learning style may be the single most important factor in determining their success in school. Studies have shown that accommodating their learning style can significantly improve their performance in school.

A New Twist on October's Dental Hygiene Month

A New Twist on October's Dental Hygiene Month

The fastest growing trend... Dental Spa's.. offer a new way for patients to make sure they receive the dental hygiene they need.

HOLMES BEACH (PRWEB) August 17, 2005

October is fast approaching and is National Dental Hygiene Month. A Dental Spa offers a new twist on this Dental Awareness Month. The most important aspect of dental hygiene is regular brushing, flossing and visiting a dentist regularly for check ups and cleaning. Dental Economic Magazine and other trade sources say it is easier to encourage people to do so by making their visit enjoyable at a Dental Spa. Island Dental Spa on Anna Maria Island, Tampa Bay area's leading Dental Spa, does just that.

Upon arrival, patients are greeted with a Comfort Menu to choose from a wide variety refreshments and entertainment; including fresh muffins, juices, hot and cold drinks and a listing of music and TV selections. Some patients choose to relax with a glass of wine while waiting.

When entering the exam room, Kelly Joseph, RDH, BS (Registered Dental Hygienist), takes care of the patient's comfort needs first. "I want the patient to be relaxed and be comfortable before we begin their treatment". The more popular comfort items are warm blankets, cool or warm eye masks and paraffin hand wax treatments. During their visit patients can also calm their nerves with video entertainment which includes watching DVD's or digital channels on personal video glasses or a flat screen TV. If the patient responds better to music, they can select their own variety to enjoy with noise-reducing headphones. Kelly's goal is to limit the discomfort of her patients at all times.

Kelly says her best patient advice is to "visit your dentist regularly for cleanings and oral cancer screenings. Routine visits to your dentist, and following recommended oral hygiene instructions at home are the key to maintaining overall dental health. 70% of your hygiene improvement is what you do at home and only 30% is what I can help do each visit." Helping at home is why she gives her patients a rotating toothbrush after their first visit along with fresh chocolate chip cookies on the way out the door to enjoy later.

The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) which stated in a release earlier this month:

"Cosmetic dentistry not only provides patients with the smile of their dreams through popular procedures like whitening and veneers. Today's cosmetic dental practice also plays a vital role in maintaining a patientÂ’s oral health and detecting early warning signs of potentially serious dental problems."

"According to the National Dental Hygienists Association, close to 30,000 Americans will be diagnosed with oral cancer and more than 7,200 will die from it in 2004, making it more common than leukemia and melanoma."

"Yet, 75 percent of those cases are preventable and up to 90 percent are treatable if detected early. This data underscores the importance of visiting an AACD member dentist regularly."

Top Fashion School Wins Prestigious Interior Design Award

Top Fashion School Wins Prestigious Interior Design Award

The vibrant new design of the fashion school’s exciting San Diego campus fosters an environment of creativity and professionalism, and is generating national attention, including an award from commercial design magazine Contract.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) February 26, 2010

FIDM/Fashion Institute (http://fidm. edu) of Design & Merchandising’s San Diego campus won first place in the Education category in Contract Magazine’s 31st Annual Interior Design Awards Competition.

The interior design of the fashion college (http://fidm. edu) is inspired by the colors and shapes of the San Diego desert regions. Unique textures and shapes in bright orange, yellow, green, and beige are prominently featured. "The internal landscape is student-centered, supporting their experience through openness, transparency, and user-friendly spaces for work and recreation," says architect Clive Wilkinson. "Vibrant public spaces contrast with quiet, neutral classrooms and study areas."

FIDM San Diego Director of Education Katherine Slauta says, “The minute you walk through the elevators you can tell this is a design school.” There are pops of color everywhere on campus, with the exception of the classrooms, which are pure white. Slauta continues, “It's like students are walking into a blank canvas each class, ready to learn and create something new on their own!”

FIDM San Diego is one of four gorgeous FIDM campuses showcasing Wilkinson’s creative genius. Bold use of color and organic shapes are his trademarks—bubble gum pink on the Orange County campus, azure blue in the Design Studio on the Los Angeles campus, and green on the San Francisco campus.

Interior Design Magazine cites Wilkinson as drawing inspiration from writers, musicians, and fashion designers including Rudi Gernreich, Yves Saint Laurent, and Miuccia Prada. “Architecture,” Wilkinson says, “is the clothing of space.”

Contract Magazine has been in circulation for nearly 50 years as a trade publication for the commercial design business. Education was one of 15 categories in the Interior Design Award Competition, with winners from all over the world in Historic Restoration, Retail, Hotel, Restaurant, Healthcare, Exhibit, Showroom, Spa/Fitness, Sports/Entertainment, Public Space, Adaptive Reuse, Large Office, Small Office, and Environmental.

With four dynamic California campuses, FIDM/Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising is the premier west coast fashion design school (http://fidm. edu), educating for careers in fashion, graphic design, interior design, and entertainment. FIDM’s graduates include renowned fashion designers like Monique Lhuillier, Emmy® and Academy Award® award-winning costume designers, top fashion industry executives, and entrepreneurs.

Maxim Mobility, LLC, a provider of mobility equipment to the elderly and people with special needs, has recently launched a new division of their company called Maxim Plus. Maxim Plus debuted on August 1st, 2004 and specializes in various pieces of equipment made specifically for bariatric needs.

New Haven, CN (PRWEB) October 1, 2004 -

Maxim Mobility, LLC, a provider of mobility equipment to the elderly and people with special needs, has recently launched a new division of their company called Maxim Plus. Maxim Plus debuted on August 1st, 2004 and specializes in various pieces of equipment made specifically for bariatric needs.

Through recent work with local medical facilities, Maxim found an increasing need for bariatric products for clients being released from hospitals. Because standard equipment doesnÂ’t always satisfy the needs of a client, Maxim felt it was important to develop an outlet that could provide customized equipment in a timely manner. This new division means great things for those clients who may have felt stranded in the past because of limited bariatric product offerings. These clients can now be independent in their homes and the community and recapture mobility and freedom.

“Maxim Plus provides a great service to those in need of heavy duty products,” said Mark Parisi the Operations Manager at Maxim Mobility LLC. “We found in the past that bariatric patients didn’t know where to turn for customized medical equipment. Maxim Plus is a specialized unit of Maxim Mobility where our main goal is to provide equipment that can handle different weight capacities and special seating and mobility needs.”

Maxim Plus offers many types of equipment including power wheelchairs, power scooters, manual wheelchairs, hospital beds, patient lifts and other durable medical equipment. Maxim Plus works with the client as well as their health care providers to supply the equipment that best meets their needs. It is Maxim PlusÂ’s goal to provide equipment that allows clients to maximize comfort and mobility.

Nutri-Health Launches Reformulated, Doctor Recommended Probiotic and Prebiotic Digestive Supplement

Nutri-Health Launches Reformulated, Doctor Recommended Probiotic and Prebiotic Digestive Supplement

Nutri-Health Supplements, a premiere US health supplements company, launches reformulated Flora Source® Multi-Probiotic®, now recommended by Board Certified Gastroenterologist and health author Dr. Joseph Brasco, MD.

Cottonwood, AZ (PRWEB) October 5, 2010

Health supplements are enjoying a surge in use among clinical physicians and health professionals world-wide. Nutrition Journal 2009 reports that 72% of doctors and 89% of nurses take dietary supplements, with many recommending supplements to their patients.* Dr. Joseph Brasco, a renown health author and Gastroenterologist with Huntsville, Alabama’s, Center for Colon and Digestive Disease, does both.

“I recommend a multi-probiotic supplement to many of my patients here at the clinic,” says Dr. Brasco. “One of the key health points I emphasize is that so many of us have imbalanced gut flora, or the balance of beneficial organisms found inherently in the digestive tract. A proper balance of healthy gut flora versus non-beneficial flora is vital to the entire system, including digestive health and ever-important immune health.”

“Probiotics in supplements help support the balance of healthy gut flora,” says Brasco, “but there’s more to a great supplement than just probiotics, which is what makes Nutri-Health’s Flora Source so unique. A complete probiotic digestive supplement should also contain prebiotics, or a non-gas forming fiber that helps ‘feed’ the healthy flora already present in the gut. Flora Source contains 16 probiotic strains plus the prebiotic, scFOS®.”

The Synergy of Probiotics and Prebiotics

Prebiotic fiber is found in various food types and supplements, such as premium short-chain fructooligosaccharides (scFOS), found in Flora Source Multi-Probiotic, and inulin. These fiber types are not fully digested but instead pass through the digestive tract and “feed” beneficial flora in the gut to help keep these flora populations robust, among other health benefits.

“scFOS offers some real advantages over inulin and other prebiotic types,” says Dr. Brasco. “This select fiber is 100% water soluble and, unlike inulin, passes through without any digestive breakdown for maximum flora benefit. scFOS selectively supports beneficial fiber and does not feed the non-beneficial organisms that may pass through the gut. The specific short-chain structure of scFOS also makes it a non-gas forming fiber, an important factor in a digestive health supplement.”

Nutri-Health refers to the synergy of the probiotics and prebiotics in their flagship supplement Flora Source as a “synbiotic,” or the mutually beneficial relationship between probiotics and prebiotics. Probiotics work to help boost levels of healthy flora in the intestines while prebiotics nourish this flora to establish a healthy balance.

Supplements Create a New Health Regimen

Consumers are turning to health supplements with increased interest as the general attitude toward health moves from therapeutic to preventative.

“The current health climate is changing,” says Dr. Brasco. “Patients at my clinic and the public at large are more open to alternative methods of supporting their health. Now, products that many of us have viewed as ‘alternative,’ such as health supplements, are playing an important role in daily health regimens. Preventative health maintenance starts at home and, as I like to say, no one takes better care of your health than you do. And this is advice coming from their doctor!”

Nutri-Healthreformulated Flora Source Multi-Probiotic in 2010 with 16 probiotic strains, including all-new Bif-Relief 24-7 B. lactis for colon health support, and the prebiotic scFOS for enhanced digestive flora support.
