Airplane Travel Can Cause Serious Ears Problems

Airplane Travel Can Cause Serious Ears Problems

Many people who travel by air are affected by the cabin pressure changes that may cause serious ear problems. This problem can be particularly serious when flying with allergies, a cold or sinus conditions. To prevent this from happening millions of air travelers use EarPlanes, a patented pressure regulating earplug that is widely available wherever ear care products are sold.

Cold Spring Harbor, NY (PRWeb UK) May 5, 2010

EarPlanes® have answered the question millions of travelers ask each year. “How do I keep my ears from hurting while flying?” According to the American Academy of Otolaryngology, ear pain due to rapid changes in air pressure on an airplane is not only an annoyance, but can also lead to hearing loss. EarPlanes is the only product on the market that is proven to protect ears from pressure changes.

“Our research shows that one in three people suffer from ear discomfort during air travel—this is a common problem that previously had no solution,” said Drew E. O’Connell, CEO of Cirrus Healthcare. “EarPlanes is the first product to address this health concern, which has led to our recognized standing as a trusted market leader for over 12 years.”

Developed by Cirrus Healthcare Products, EarPlanes is a patented pressure-regulating earplug that reduces discomfort, clogging, and popping associated with air travel. The exclusive CeramX™ filter in EarPlanes regulates air pressure naturally, eliminating ear pain caused by air pressure changes during the aircraft’s take-off and descent.

EarPlanes, which was created in conjunction with the House Ear Institute—the leading institute in hearing research and ear surgery—was tested by the US Navy and approved by flight attendants. A recent study conducted by a major U. S. airline cited that EarPlanes helped alleviate Ear Block, a condition brought on by constant pressure change which is known to be one of the major reasons for Worker Compensation Claims. EarPlanes is the recommended Onboard Service Safety Requirement for flight crews of this airline.

In addition to alleviating ear pain during air travel, EarPlanes act as noise suppression earplugs, filtering out much of the high frequency noise generated by aircraft engines.

Hovermale returns home as head brewer

Winchester, VA (PRWEB) May 2, 2008

The Virginia Brewing Company (VBC) will soon hold its Grand Opening & Beer Fest at the ZeroPak complex in Winchester, Virginia. The celebration will feature craft beers, barbecue, and live music as the microbrewery welcomes the public to its new brewhall and event space.

John Hovermale, Jr., previously of Harpoon Brewery in Windsor, Vermont, has returned to his native Winchester, Virginia to brew craft beer for the VBC. As a young man, Hovermale traveled Europe and grew enamored of European beer culture.

"I was intrigued by how this one town's brewery was so much a part of the community and vice versa," Hovermale says. "After returning from Europe I attended the Siebel Institute of Technology, where I studied brewing. After paying my dues working in the cellar of a brewery in Biloxi, I joined Harpoon. Now I've come full-circle, brewing beer in my hometown."

A division of the ZeroPak arts and cultural complex, the VBC is managed by ZeroPak principals James Justice and Janette Hooper.

As founder and driving force of the ZeroPak project, Justice has extensive entrepreneurial and team-building expertise. He brings a strong sales, services, and technical background acquired during his years as a U. S. Army intelligence officer and later as an employee of Microsoft Corporation. He oversees day-to-day operations at ZeroPak and the VBC.

As investment partner in ZeroPak, Hooper contributes entrepreneurial management and development expertise, as well as a high-technology background utilized in the operation of her own software company. She calls regularly on her engineering and electrician experience in the continuing redesign and re-development of the ZeroPak property.

Also lending talents to the VBC are Mike St. Jacques and Barrett Waybright. St. Jacques is a combat-infantry veteran and polyglot (he speaks fluent Russian, plus a healthy smattering of German and French). Waybright is a graduate of James Madison University with a BBA in Finance and a minor in Economics.

Managing branding and public affairs for the ZeroPak project is Mark Doyon, a 20-year veteran of communications and image design at the national level. Doyon focuses on community-building through the creation of popular cultural products and programs.

Fueling Testosterone and Preventing Hair Loss with Tocotrienols

Fueling Testosterone and Preventing Hair Loss with Tocotrienols

Primordial Performance introduces Toco-8 -- a natural tocotrienol supplement designed to encourage testosterone production, while preventing hair loss. This represents the first natural product to support a man's hormone production and healthy hair growth.

Eugene, OR (PRWEB) February 15, 2008

Hair loss (alopecia) and low testosterone (hypogonadism) have become common problems for middle aged men. The two most popular treatments for hair loss are finasteride (Proscar/Propecia) or the topical drug minoxidil (Rogain). Patient compliance with minoxidil therapy is generally a problem, while finesteride is often associated with undesirable side-effects. By overly suppressing DHT, finasteride can lead to erectile dysfunction, gynecomastia and general impotence.

Men with low testosterone often deal with the suboptimal lifestyle, or seek the traditional hypogonadal treatment of Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT). However, TRT is often associated with increased hair loss, thus requiring the need for aforementioned prescription hair loss drugs. This creates a negative cycle, and further reliance on prescription medication.

Recently, the natural ingredient manufacturer Carotech obtained a US patent (7,211,247) for the hair loss prevention, and hair regrowth benefits of a mixed tocotrienol complex. For this patent, a randomized, double blind, placebo-controlled study was performed. The participants supplementing with 100mg of the tocotrienol complex had an average 42 percent increase in hair count after 5 months, with no side-effects reported. The mechanism of action appears to be unrelated to DHT levels. It's been reported that the tocotrienols may protect and replenish the hair follicle by their potent antioxidant ability.

In light of these findings, a partnership was established between the supplement company Primordial Performance LLC (http://www. primordialperformance. com/), and the ingredient manufacturer Carotech Inc. In early 2008, Primordial Performance announced the release and distribution of the first pure tocotrienol powdered supplement -- Toco-8 (http://www. primordialperformance. com/toco. cfm).

Toco-8 is a pure tocotrienol powdered supplement, marketed to men for hormone optimizing effects, with the proven benefit of hair loss protection. Research with animals and humans show that tocotrienols can support testosterone production by increasing production of luteinizing hormone (LH) from the brain. LH is the hormone that signals testosterone production from the male testes. Tocotrienols have also been found to increase testicular sensitivity the effects of LH, thus increasing the testosterone response from LH.

Toco-8 is a safe and natural supplement for men wishing to support their body's own testosterone production, while also promoting healthy hair growth. It is sold as a 30 day supply at the clinically effective hair regrowth dose. Upon receipt, we will then forward this information to our research team who will contact you at the above information.

Today’s Next Generation MRM solutions encompass far more than just fleet tracking and asset management tools. A new breed of MRM solutions is now integrating multiple technologies—including global positioning systems (GPS), wireless carrier systems and Internet communications into mobile applications that strengthen the ability to manage a mobile workforce. These offerings, combined with either in-vehicle or hand-held hardware help measure and better manage overall mobile workforce performance, reduce operating costs and maximize the ability to deliver high-quality customer service in the field.

Although application adoption will vary by industry, the broad categories expect to fall under the MRM "umbrella," which includes field force management, field service automation and enterprise asset management. Total market revenues also expect to grow exponentially from $723 million in 2005 to approximately $1.5 billion in 2008.

“The winners in the MRM space will enable field service businesses to optimize their operational expenditure through highly efficient and agile field service resources that offer more than simply basic tracking & dispatch software,” says Frost & Sullivan Industry Research Manager Brent Iadarola.

Businesses are facing tremendous pressure to utilize MRM as a means of gaining a competitive advantage as early adopters increasingly demonstrate tangible ROI with deployments. The key tenet of the MRM value proposition is to reduce execution risk in field operations by leveraging location and real time access to mission-critical applications to improve management visibility into field activities, increase field force productivity and reduce operating costs.

HWS Labor Market Pulse Index Shows Continued Improvement In U. S. Health Care Labor Markets

HWS Labor Market Pulse Index Shows Continued Improvement In U. S. Health Care Labor Markets

HWS Labor Market Pulse Index Shows Continued Improvement In U. S. Health Care Labor Markets. Houston, Orlando and Atlanta are top three markets in Q3 2009; San Francisco Bay, Detroit and Los Angeles found to be weakest.

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) November 22, 2009

The Q3 HWS Labor Market Pulse® Index (LMPI), a quarterly barometer of local market healthcare workforce fluctuations released today, shows near-term demand for health care workers growing fastest in Houston, Orlando and Atlanta for the third quarter of 2009. The San Francisco Bay Area, Detroit and Los Angeles ranked at the bottom of the 30 markets tracked.

Among the findings for the third quarter of 2009:
Much of the growth is being fueled by newly announced expansion plans at organizations including West Houston Medical Center and the Emory Eastside Medical Center in Gwinnett, among others.

In metropolitan markets including the San Francisco Bay area, Los Angeles, and Sacramento, large scale layoffs at Kaiser Permanente had a material impact this past quarter. Growth also slowed notably in Charlotte although the Charlotte market still remains strong relative to the rest of the country.

In the most recent quarter, 16 markets of the 30 tracked showed signs of accelerated expansion (vs. 20 in the prior quarter) but only 10 markets fell below national averages.

The LMPI composite index, a representative basket of the 30 largest markets, posted a slight 1% increase in the third quarter of 2009 from the second quarter of 2009, as the national health care labor market began to slowly rebound and projects began to be put back on track.

“Although caution remains in a number of markets and the gains this quarter were small, it is still encouraging to see the national health care labor market begin to become vibrant again,” said David Cherner, Managing Partner of Health Workforce Solutions LLC, the company that publishes the HWS Labor Market Pulse® Index. “We remain cautiously optimistic and hopeful that health care will lead the broader economy on the road back.”

In response to demands for local workforce data that provides actionable information, HWS launched Labor Market Pulse® in 2008, a first of-its-kind, centralized and local workforce planning tool for health care employers in three major markets.

The launch of the HWS Labor Market Pulse® Index (LMPI) earlier this year expanded the footprint of Labor Market Pulse into 30 markets and now enables meaningful comparison, by tracking elements including temporary health workforce shortages and surpluses, facility and bed closures, announced layoffs and expansions, and local economic trends. Going forward, the HWS LMPI will be expanded to 36 markets and continue to be tracked on a quarterly basis both individually and in composite indices.

For more information on the LMPI, visit www. healthws. com or call 1-877-892-2430 x805.

Glidewell Laboratories Debuts aveoTSD(R) Health Professional Patient Sizing Kit

Glidewell Laboratories Debuts aveoTSD(R) Health Professional Patient Sizing Kit

Glidewell Dental Lab Announces Debut of aveoTSD Health Professional Patient Sizing Kit to Ensure Adequate Fit From the Start

Newport Beach, CA (PRWEB) September 7, 2010

Glidewell Laboratories (http://www. glidewelldental. com), industry-leading provider of dental lab products and services, announced today the debut of the aveoTSD (http://www. glidewelldental. com/dentist/services/removables-aveo-tsd. aspx) Health Professional Patient Sizing Kit.

This kit, helpful for in-office patient sizing of the aveoTSD, contains one small, one medium and one large aveoTSD (Tongue Stabilization Device); two Uni-Spacers, sized 4 mm and 7 mm, which can clip on to the aveoTSD for extra titration; and one autoclavable tray.

The aveoTSD, manufactured by Innovative Health Technologies and designed by Dental Sleep Medicine specialist Dr. Chris Robertson, is an anti-snoring aid that is worn on the tongue during sleep. It works by holding the tongue forward using gentle suction and is unique because, unlike other anti-snoring devices, it requires no impressions, no adjustments, no specialist fitting and has no moving parts.

Clinical case studies have shown that the medium aveoTSD fits 95 percent of patients. However, for the precise health professional who wants to ensure an adequate fit from the start, the aveoTSD Patient Sizing Kit allows the dentist or medical physician to try each size device on the patient to check for comfort and fit. For patients who need extra titration due to a long tongue, the 4 mm or 7 mm Uni-Spacer can be used to provide a more restful night’s sleep. After trying in each piece, place items back into the tray and autoclave, then reuse the kit minutes later.

Priced individually, the pieces included in the aveoTSD Health Professional Patient Sizing Kit total up to $489. But when purchased as a kit, dentists and medical physicians will pay just $269.

Pre-order the aveoTSD Patient Sizing Kit by calling 800-334-1979. The first orders will be shipped beginning September 24, 2010. For more information, visit getaveo. com (http://www. getaveo. com).

Culligan's New Aqua-Cleer® Advanced Drinking Water SystemProvides Clean, Quality Water Customized for Every Home

Culligan's New Aqua-Cleer® Advanced Drinking Water SystemProvides Clean, Quality Water Customized for Every Home

Over two-thirds (67%) of Americans are generally concerned about the quality of their household water supply, according to a 2008 National Consumer Water Quality Association (WQA) Research survey. News headlines warning of contaminants1 (i. e. lead, radium, chlorine) and pharmaceuticals in tap water have stirred controversy and confusion. Consumers are also learning that water in single-serve, disposable plastic bottles isn’t an environmentally-friendly solution to their drinking water concerns. As a result, more than half of Americans say they’re planning to purchase home filtration devices, the WQA poll showed.

CHICAGO (PRWEB) July 1, 2008

Culligan, the leader in home water treatment solutions for more than 70 years, introduced an innovative solution that addresses consumer concerns about the quality of their drinking water. Culligan's new Aqua-Cleer® Advanced Drinking Water System allows individual homeowners to treat specific water quality issues tailored to their unique needs. With up to 13 interchangeable filters – the most options on the market today – the system is completely customizable. It is also one of the most sanitary drinking water systems available, designed to deliver clean, healthy water right from the tap. Backed by the support of Culligan's nationwide 700+ dealer network of qualified water specialists, the Aqua-Cleer system offers consumers quality water and peace of mind.

"Aqua-Cleer represents a revolutionary new way to treat water that puts the right system into every home, so that homeowners can enjoy healthy water that is tailored to their family needs, lifestyle preferences and local water quality," said Mark Seals, Culligan's chief executive officer.

Completely Customizable to Combat Contaminants

Because water quality can differ across regions – or even different homes in the same town – no one system can fit all needs. Culligan's dealers start by conducting a water analysis, which ensures that homeowners get the Aqua-Cleer solution that is customized to their requirements. Aqua-Cleer's 13 filters can then be mixed and matched into five stages of filtration to provide the most efficient option.

Culligan's unique Total Defense Cartridge targets an extensive list of volatile organic compounds2 that a typical reverse osmosis system cannot. For example, the Total Defense Cartridge can filter out MTBE, which is commonly used in gasoline to reduce carbon monoxide and ozone levels caused by emissions. Releases of MTBE to ground and surface water can occur through leaking underground storage tanks and pipelines, spills, and emissions from marine engines into lakes and reservoirs. While public water systems monitor for MTBE, homeowners on private wells are more susceptible to levels of MTBE – which can be readily reduced by the Total Defense Cartridge.

Aqua-Cleer also includes specialized arsenic and perchlorate filters for specific regions of the country. Adding to its customizability, Aqua-Cleer is completely flexible and adaptable to changing water conditions over time, making it the last drinking water system a home will ever need.

Safe, Sanitary and Simple to Maintain

Culligan has taken multiple steps to ensure that Aqua-Cleer continuously delivers safe, clean drinking water. AlphaSan, a unique antimicrobial agent that inhibits bacteria growth, is a key part of every system. Regularly changing filters is necessary to keep it working properly, so Culligan made it easy and safe. First, Aqua-Cleer filters are encapsulated and disposable to avoid potential contamination during replacement. Each filter head also has an automatic shut-off to prevent leaks during a filter change. Homeowners can quickly and easily change the filters themselves or request support from a Culligan service technician if they prefer.

Backed by Culligan – a Trusted Expert

Whatever their preference, customers will benefit from the expertise, experience and longevity of Culligan's local dealers who are always "on call" as homeowners' water quality needs change or they need answers to complex water issues. For more information or to contact a Culligan dealer near you, visit www. culligan. com or call 1-800-CULLIGAN.

Culligan has been recognized as the world leading innovator and provider of filtration systems for more than 70 years. Headquartered in the Chicago area, Culligan maintains offices in 12 countries, dealers and licensees in over 70 countries, and a network of 700+ franchise and company-owned dealers across North America. Culligan offers the most extensive water treatment product line in the world, and its solutions have been backed by the Good Housekeeping Seal, highlighted as a Consumers Digest "Best Buy" and featured on the "Designing Spaces" national television show. Culligan is also a founding member of the Water Quality Association and contributing donor to the Water Quality Research Foundation, the research arm of the water quality improvement industry.

1 Contaminants are not necessarily in your water.

2 Volatile organic compound is a broad term used to describe many chemicals and compounds that are known carcinogens.

Book Lover Launches New Website and Corresponding Blog

LLshopping. biz is a new website founded by Lodemia Lakosky, who is more than a little passionate about the written word. With the launch of a new blog to complement the website, Lakosky hopes to open up a medium for discussion with others about those books that have shaped her life and made her a better person.

Fairibault, MN (PRWEB) July 30, 2009

LLshopping. biz is a new website founded by Lodemia Lakosky, who is more than a little passionate about the written word. With the launch of a new blog to complement the website, Lakosky hopes to open up a medium for discussion with others about those books that have shaped her life and made her a better person.

"I read a lot, more so than I would recommend," said Lodemia Lakosky while laughing. "But I've often found I want to share all the wonderful reading experiences I've had with others, and a book club just doesn't do it."

Lakosky is the founder of www. LLShopping. biz, a brand new website that launched in June 2009. The website offers a wide range of products, but with a special emphasis on books and novels. "I like all kinds of books," said Lakosky. "But I love reading books about alternative healthcare, medicine, spirituality and organic farming."

Lakosky grew up on a farm in Iowa and worked in the health care field for over 35 years as a nurse specialist in nurse anesthesia and infection control. She also traveled while promoting organic farming and agriculture. "I think it's great that more people are turning their attention to Mother Earth, and because of personal experiences, I have a lot to share on those subjects."

With the goal of discussing all those books she is most passionate about, Lakosky launched a new blog at www. ShopTimeChatter. com.

"With the blog, I want to focus on all the important books I've read and discuss new books as well," said Lakosky. "I'll also be discussing the other products on the website, but books will be the focus."

Lakosky has several future ambitions for the website, including plans to streamline it and promote user-friendliness. "I think one of the reasons Amazon has been so successful is because their website is so user-friendly, and I'd like to create a well organized website with similar appeal."

"I also plan to add more stores to the website in the future, and try to encompass all the products my customers would want," added Lakosky.

Whether a fellow book lover or just someone looking for a great price on a product, Lakosky's website is the place to begin.

Mesothelioma Victims Center Offers Critical Advice & Do's and Don'ts for a Victim or Families Dealing with Mesothelioma

Mesothelioma Victims Center Offers Critical Advice & Do's and Don'ts for a Victim or Families Dealing with Mesothelioma

Americas Watchdog created the Mesothelioma Victims Center after losing a close family member to this rare, and lethal form of cancer. The goal of the Mesothelioma Victims Center is to provide free unparalleled help, advice, and support for a mesothelioma victim, and their family members. According to the founder of the Mesothelioma Victims Center, "the mesothelioma world is built around real, and not so real law firms, or marketing firms trying to land a possibly lucrative mesothelioma lawsuit. Its so bad, that we have developed a list of do's & don'ts for mesothelioma victims and their families, in order to protect them, and to make sure they get nothing but the best." The group says," you call us, and we will make sure you know everything you need to know, about the five or six national mesothelioma law firms that consistently produce the best results, to help with the VA or Social Security, health care options etc." If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with mesothelioma, please call the Mesothelioma Victims Center anytime at 866-714-6466 or visit their web site at Http://MesotheliomaVictimsCenter. Com

Washington, DC (PRWEB) December 22, 2008

Americas Watchdog created the Mesothelioma Victims Center as a all in one free world class service, for a mesothelioma victim or their family. The Mesothelioma Victims Center will provide a mesothelioma victim with the names of absolute best law firms in the country to investigate a possible legal claim, they will help a victim with VA or Social Security issues and they will provide the victim or their family with the best health care options in their specific area. According to the group, "there is nothing even close to this free service on the planet." For more information a mesothelioma victim or their family can call the Mesothelioma Victims Center anytime at 866-714-6466 or visit their web site at Http://MesotheliomaVictimsCenter. Com

Question: Why did Americas Watchdog form an advocacy group for victims of mesothelioma?

Answer : Americas Watchdog created the Mesothelioma Victims Center because a close family member was diagnosed with mesothelioma and died. In the process the group found out there is not much transparency, when it comes to trying to discover what to do, after a mesothelioma diagnosis. The vast majority of supposed mesothelioma help or advice groups are simply law firms or marketing groups, attempting to cash in on a possible lucrative lawsuit. According to Americas Watchdog, "it was even worse than we thought. Three quarters of the law firms advertising for mesothelioma victims, do not even do the actual cases. They simply want a piece of the action and we thought that was reprehensible, so we formed the Mesothelioma Victims Center."

Mesothelioma Do's & Don'ts

Don'ts:
If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with mesothelioma. Do not fall for a slick Internet web site, or a yellow page ad. In reality there are just hand full of capable mesothelioma law firms that the Mesothelioma Victims Center would recommend. By integrating Rcopia into their respective products, these firms meet the e-prescribing requirement for 2011 and 2012 for HHS meaningful use as set forth by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS). The purpose of the ARRA HITECH Act is to encourage healthcare providers who render care to Medicare or Medicaid patients to adopt meaningful use EMR (electronic medical records) or EHR to improve the safety and quality of patient care. DrFirst partners with over 130 EHR/EMR companies nationwide that utilize Rcopia as the e-prescribing component of their systems.

EHRs that satisfy meaningful use regulations offer software that enable eligible providers to track 15 meaningful use criteria including reporting patient demographics, smoking status, clinical summaries, and drug-drug and drug-allergy interaction checks. These EHRs also meet 5 of 10 of the HHS meaningful use menu items -- with immunization data sent to registries as a required menu item.

Provectus Pharmaceuticals (otc bb "pvct") announced today that the Company has an active IND (Investigational New Drug) application for XantrylTM drug therapy with the FDA for Psoriasis.

Provectus Pharmaceuticals Inc., OTC BB “PVCT” is a pioneering pharmaceutical company actively engaged in the design, development and marketing of a diverse portfolio of leading patented pharmaceutical technologies for treatment of liver, breast and prostate cancer. In addition, Provectus has developed and patented treatments for skin diseases, psoriasis and a variety of other skin condition products.

(PRWEB) November 16, 2003

Provectus Pharmaceuticals (otc bb "pvct") announced today that the Company has an active IND (Investigational New Drug) application for XantrylTM drug therapy with the FDA for Psoriasis.

Provectus Pharmaceuticals has completed successful HUMAN pre-clinical trials in Europe and a number of Phase I trials in the US. Provectus Psoriasis drug, XantrylTM, is now ready for Phase II/III HUMAN studies. Psoriasis is a chronic disease and represents a market opportunity of over $1 billion

The company is advancing the development of XantrylTM which is activated by green light for the treatment of psoriasis. One of the standard treatments of psoriasis is photodynamic therapy using drugs activated by ultraviolet light that cross-link cellular genetic material. A hazard associated with this therapy is the potential to develop skin cancer. Several new drugs have been developed that act by suppressing the immune system. These drugs are expensive and require repeated injections. The potential for severe suppression of the immune system may limit the use of some of the new drugs to just a few treatments.

In contrast, XantrylTM specifically targets only diseased tissue and the effects of light activation are confined only to areas of the skin affected by psoriasis. The agent is so sensitive to light that only ambient room or sun light maybe required for treatment. This would remove the requirement for repeated visits to a physician. A green laser in the physicianÂ’s office or a simple tanning bed can also activate the drug. Since the effects of the treatment are confined only to areas affected by psoriasis the chance of side effects are slight.

Provectus Pharmaceuticals, Inc. develops pharmaceutical products in three sectors of the health-care industry: 1) prescription medications, 2) medical devices, and 3) OTC pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. Prescription drug products and devices treat diseases of the skin and many types of cancer. OTC products address complementary markets, primarily those involving skin care and comfort.

The company's corporate offices and laboratory are located at 7327 Oak Ridge Highway, Suite A, Knoxville, Tenn. 37931; 865/769-4012. For more information, contact the company at info@provectuscorp. com or visit the corporate Web site: www. provectuscorp. com.

Competition Among Employers Intensifies: 2008 List of Canada's Top 100 Employers is Released

Competition Among Employers Intensifies: 2008 List of Canada's Top 100 Employers is Released

The new 2008 list of Canada's Top 100 Employers has been released in the midst of the tightest labour market in a generation and record competition among employers for a place on the list. Now in its 8th year, the annual competition recognizes employers that are industry leaders at attracting and retaining employees. The competition is organized by Mediacorp Canada Inc., Canada's largest publisher of employment guides and job-hunting periodicals.

Toronto, ON (PRWEB) October 10, 2007

The new 2008 list of Canada's Top 100 Employers has been released in the midst of the tightest labour market in a generation and record competition among employers for a place on the list. Now in its 8th year, the annual competition recognizes employers that are industry leaders at attracting and retaining employees. The competition is organized by Mediacorp Canada Inc., Canada's largest publisher of employment guides and job-hunting periodicals.

"We've written about the approaching labour shortages for several years," says Richard Yerema, who heads the editorial team on the Canada's Top 100 Employers project. "Well, the shortages are now here and employers are competing for talent like never before."

To develop this year's Top 100 list, Mediacorp examined the recruitment histories of over 72,000 employers across Canada that it tracks for various job-hunting periodicals, including its online search engine for new jobs in Canada (http://www. eluta. ca), Eluta. ca. Much of Mediacorp's work consists of monitoring recruitment at thousands of Canadian employers, indexing new job announcements to determine which employers are the most active in their field and region.

From this initial group, Mediacorp invited 10,000 of the fastest-growing employers, plus 4,000 other companies and organizations in industries that Mediacorp editors wanted to examine more closely, to apply for this year's competition. Employers were asked to complete an extensive application process that included a detailed review of their operations and HR practices. Author Richard Yerema and his editorial team looked for the most interesting and novel things employers were doing, so they could report on "best practices" in each field. Over 1,800 employers started the application process to be considered for the 2008 edition of Canada's Top 100 Employers (http://www. canadastop100.com).

In reviewing each employer's application, Yerema and his team reviewed eight key areas: (1) Physical Workplace; (2) Work Atmosphere & Social; (3) Health, Financial & Family Benefits; (4) Vacation & Time Off; (5) Employee Communications; (6) Performance Management; (7) Training & Skills Development; and (8) Community Involvement. The editors' internal grades for each of these areas - and the reasons why each employer was selected - are published annually in Canada's Top 100 Employers and summarized online at Eluta. ca. These criteria have remained consistent throughout all eight editions of the Canada's Top 100 Employers project.

In choosing the finalists for this year's Canada's Top 100 Employers competition, Mediacorp editors considered how each employer compared to others in its industry. This year's list includes large and small employers from a range of industries, offering varying benefits and working conditions. The common thread that runs through the finalists is that each is an industry leader. From accounting firms to police forces, the employers chosen this year are leaders in their industry in attracting and retaining quality employees. This year, Mediacorp editors also considered three emerging areas of interest: diversity and inclusiveness programs; initiatives to assist new Canadians and recent immigrants; and projects that integrate environmental awareness into an organization's culture. The editors' choices for Canada's top employers in these three areas will be released in spring 2008.

"We are now seeing best-of-class recruitment and retention practices spreading beyond the industries where they started much faster than before," says Anthony Meehan, president of Mediacorp Canada Inc., which organizes the annual Canada's Top 100 Employers competition. "Employers in one industry are now cherry-picking innovative benefits seen in other industries much more quickly because they are increasingly competing outside their industry for talented employees."

About Mediacorp:
Mediacorp Canada Inc. is Canada's largest publisher of quality employment periodicals. The company specializes in publishing directories and guides that let job-hunters find great employers and interesting new job opportunities in their field. Since 1992, more than one million of Mediacorp's job-hunting guides have been sold. Mediacorp's latest project is the popular job search (http://www. eluta. ca) engine Eluta. ca, which allows job-seekers to find new job announcements - and verified information on perks and benefits - directly from thousands of employers across Canada. Each spring, Mediacorp also organizes a policy-oriented conference on the Canada's Top 100 Employers project called the Top Employer Summit (http://www. employersummit. ca), which is Canada's largest annual gathering of senior-level human resources professionals. Mediacorp co-presents the conference each year with Towers Perrin, which also manages a sophisticated employee survey tool used by applicants to the annual Canada's Top 100 Employers competition.

Mealtime. org Makes It Easy to Count Down to Nutritious, Tasty and Convenient Meals

Mealtime. org Makes It Easy to Count Down to Nutritious, Tasty and Convenient Meals

The Canned Food Alliance has partnered with chef and cookbook author Andrew Schloss to develop the "Kitchen Countdown" recipe collection. These ten recipes all have one thing in common: they feature 1 pot; 5 ingredients; cost 10 dollars or less; take 15 minutes or less to prepare and have 400 calories or less per serving...literally counting down to healthy meals in minutes.

Pittsburg, PA (PRWEB) October 7, 2009

As the economy forces many Americans to toss takeout menus and ditch dinner reservations, many are making their way back into the kitchen in hopes of preparing nutritious, budget-friendly meals. Only problem is, recent research shows that many lack the knowledge of basic kitchen know-how and need help in the kitchen. However, the same research found that moms make positive changes when they receive guidance, so the Canned Food Alliance (CFA) provided moms with the Essential Kitchen Toolkit, which offers easy-to-read guides to planning and preparing healthful meals.

Now, the CFA has partnered with chef and cookbook author, Andrew Schloss so moms can apply the basics of meal preparation, to create easy, inventive meals at home with much lower costs. Not convinced? You do the math:

To answer this call for help in the kitchen these ten new recipes all have one thing in common: they feature 1 pot; 5 ingredients; cost 10 dollars or less; take 15 minutes or less to prepare and have 400 calories or less per serving - literally counting down to healthy meals in minutes.

"Being creative with the variety of canned foods available today is what makes these recipes unique. Without canned food, it wouldn't be possible to make these flavorful meals this quickly and at this cost," said Schloss. "By simply pairing ingredients, such as canned, diced green chilies to add flavor to a flank steak or adding a can of southwestern-style corn to any stew, I was able to create nutritious meals that taste great for under $10."

Now live on www. Mealtime. org, the "Kitchen Countdown" recipe collection offers nutrition, convenience and great taste all in one - and includes the following dishes for your serving pleasure:
Caribbean Fish and Sweet Potato Skillet Dinner  Chicken Nachos  Chili Stuffed Flank Steak  Corn and Crab Cakes  Fish Tacos  Mexican Shrimp Stew  Salmon Herb Pie  Smoked Turkey Gazpacho  Thai Coconut Chicken Soup  Vegetarian Brown Rice Casserole

What Sparked Us to Get Cooking?
In early 2009, a Rutgers University study - commissioned by the Canned Food Alliance and published in the Forum for Family and Consumer Sciences journal - revealed that although moms have good intentions, they want and need a better grasp of kitchen basics. This lack of basic kitchen knowledge is ultimately hindering them from preparing nutritious, great-tasting family meals. However, when given a roadmap for preparing convenient, nutritious meals, the research also showed moms made positive changes in their kitchens.

Recognizing that moms make positive changes when they receive advice on how to prepare and serve easy, quick and healthful meals, the Canned Food Alliance developed the Essential Kitchen Toolkit as an educational resource. The Toolkit, which was modeled after the successful action plans used in the Rutgers research, offers easy-to-read guides to planning and preparing healthful meals, navigating the grocery store and organizing the kitchen, as well as a kitchen glossary, and food and kitchen safety tips.

"We learned through the Rutgers research that moms needed help, so we gave them the tools to get them started," said Rich Tavoletti, executive director for the Canned Food Alliance. "So now, we've taken it a step further by offering the "Kitchen Countdown" recipe collection as an easy way for moms to apply those tools to help them be creative when it comes to serving flavorful and wholesome meals for their families."

To find out more, log on to www. mealtime. org to find the "Kitchen Countdown" recipe collection, the Essential Kitchen Toolkit, more information on how to cook with canned foods and hundreds of other healthful and easy-to-prepare recipes.

About the Canned Food Alliance:
The Canned Food Alliance is a partnership of the American Iron and Steel Institute's Steel Packaging Council, the Can Manufacturers Institute, select food processors and affiliate members. The primary mission of the CFA is to drive increased consumption of canned foods by enhancing the perception of their numerous benefits. For hundreds of mealtime solutions, visit www. mealtime. org.

The conference, entitled the "Listening and Spoken Language Symposium," is sponsored by the Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (AG Bell). St. Louis, MO (PRWEB) July 23, 2009

A conference hosting leading experts in the fields of psychology, cognitive sciences, and speech and hearing sciences, today convened a three-day conference on the impact of executive function on education and developmental outcomes, specifically in children and adults who are deaf or hard of hearing.

The conference, entitled the "Listening and Spoken Language Symposium," is sponsored by the Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (AG Bell). Established in 1890, AG Bell is the only national organization dedicated to supporting children and adults who are deaf or hard of hearing who use spoken language and hearing technology to communicate.

This year's symposium focuses on executive function which is defined as the cognitive, or thinking, process that begins in infancy and continues through early childhood, adolescence and young adulthood. Executive function involves the global coordination, integration and functional connectivity of multiple underlying brain systems used in speech perception and production, and spoken language development.

"Executive function has become one of the most critical concepts to understand in the field of child development," said John R. "Jay" Wyant, president of AG Bell. "Recent developments in the research and medical fields have unlocked many secrets as to how the brain works and how we 'learn how to learn.'"

AG Bell is hosting several hundred professionals from all over the U. S. and nine countries who work with children and adults with hearing loss who listen and use spoken language to communicate.

The symposium runs through July 25 and features two general sessions, two panel discussions and eight workshops focusing on executive function and the development of problem-solving skills, social competence and academic readiness. Topics to be covered include:
Relating measures of executive function to language and reading skills in children with cochlear implants. Development of executive control in preschool children. Speech and language outcomes in children who are deaf after receiving a cochlear implant. Assessment of executive functions and applying the results in everyday practice. Speech perception, language abilities and cognitive skills in children with cochlear implants and hearing aids.

Keynote speakers include two of the leading experts in the field: Dr. Kimberly Andrews Espy is the associate vice chancellor for research and a professor in the department of Psychology at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln; and Dr. David B. Pisoni is chancellors' professor of Psychology and Cognitive Science, and director of the Speech Research Laboratory at Indiana University.

Symposium attendees include teachers of the deaf, speech language pathologists, listening and spoken language specialists, audiologists, and researchers and clinicians.

"This symposium is designed to first, educate us on executive function and the impact a hearing loss can have on how a child's executive function develops, and second, to exchange information about real-world applications," continued Wyant, himself born profoundly deaf. "We are very excited to be able to offer this high-quality program focused on one of the most cutting-edge issues in listening and spoken language development today."

The Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing helps families, health care providers, educators and professionals understand childhood hearing loss and the importance of early diagnosis and intervention. Through advocacy, education, research and financial aid, AG Bell helps to ensure that every child and adult with hearing loss has the opportunity to listen, talk and thrive. With chapters located in the United States and a network of international affiliates, AG Bell supports its mission: Advocating Independence through Listening and Talking.

First American to Win Olympic Gold Medal in Downhill Skiing Receiving Medical Treatment at UPMC and the University Of Pittsburgh Center for Sports Medicine

First American to Win Olympic Gold Medal in Downhill Skiing Receiving Medical Treatment at UPMC and the University Of Pittsburgh Center for Sports Medicine

At a time when other gold-medal champions would be enjoying business ventures, coaching other athletes, and generating endorsements, Bill Johnson is struggling with challenges bigger than the mountains he once dominated.

Portland, OR (PRWEB) May 23, 2005

Bill Johnson was never one to find the easiest way down the mountain. Bill Johnson was the fastest downhill skier in the world and took great pride in his technical abilities on the most difficult mountains. Bill Johnson gained as much notoriety for his brash and outrageous actions as he did for being the first skier from the United States to win a gold medal in downhill skiing. It took place at the 1984 Sarajevo Olympic Games. The United States had never won the gold and 1984 was a time when the United States continued to hold little hope for winning. Along came the bad boy of skiing Bill Johnson making headlines by stating that he didn't know why the other racers had bothered showing up because they would be "racing for second place".

Bill Johnson delivered on his promise. There were movies (Going For The Gold with Anthony Edwards) book deals and endorsements. Post Gold Medal life however was challenging and Bill Johnson suffered tremendous trauma as one of his children drowned in an accident and his marriage failed. Bill Johnson found resolve by becoming competitive again and set out to win another gold medal at the 2002 Games in Salt Lake City. The harsh lessons of Bill Johnson continued however as he suffered among the most horrific and tragic accidents in sports. During BillÂ’s comeback at the U. S. Alpine Championships in Whitefish, Montana in 2001, he suffered a traumatic brain injury while traveling 58 MPH. Bill Johnson was in a coma for three weeks and lost six years of memories.

Bill Johnson has experienced many negative challenges as a result of his injuries. There has been immense pain, lost most of his memory for a six year period. The surgery on his severed tongue has affected his speech. Bill Johnson gets confused, frustrated and angry from time to time. These challenges even included public embarrassment as he was pulled over and suspected of drunk driving. Bill Johnson became confused and frustrated and was arrested and jailed for assault. The police thought he was drunk because of his brain injury, speech and behavior. Bill Johnson alcohol level test results were”00.0”. The story of the arrest and Bill’s actions were grossly misreported and caused damage to Bill and his family according to a spokesperson for the Johnson family.

Bill Johnson returned today from the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and The Center for Sports Medicine. The doctors in Pittsburgh feel there may be more options to increase the health and quality of life Bill Johnson should be experiencing. They are reviewing results of a comprehensive evaluation that took place over several days last week.

The medical team in Pittsburgh is being headed up by Dr. Joseph Maroon, Vice Chairman and Professor of the Department of Neurological Surgery and Dr. Mark Lovell, a nationally renowned sports concussion researcher, Dr. Lovell oversees the neuropsychological testing programs for the National Football League (NFL) and the National Hockey League (NHL) and directs the concussion testing for Championship Auto Racing Teams and the Indianapolis Racing League. He is chairman of the NHL’s Neuropsychology Advisory Board. Dr. Maroon has been the team neurosurgeon for the Pittsburgh Steelers Football Club for the past 20 years and has developed innovated programs for the management of athletes with cerebral concussions. ImPACT© (Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing) was developed by Doctor Maroon and Dr. Mark Lovell. It is the first computerized evaluation system used that may help determine concussion severity.

Dr. Maroon’s research into brain tumors and diseases of the spine have lead to many innovative techniques for diagnosing and treating these disorders. He has operated on over 1,000 pituitary tumors and now uses an endoscopic/microscopic approach. In 2002, he was nominated a Health Care Hero Lifetime Achievement Award finalist by the Pittsburgh Business Times and has been listed, for 8 consecutive years, as one of “America’s Best Neurosurgeons” in the publication of America’s Best Doctors.

Dr. LovellÂ’s work involves researching the neurocognitive effects of sports concussion and developing better methods of post-concussion evaluation to determine when it is safe for an athlete to return to sports following a concussion. In addition to working with professional and collegiate athletes, Dr. Lovell and the UPMC team, over the last several years, have made a sophisticated and standardized concussion evaluation program available to high school and younger athletes nationwide.

The purpose of the visit was to have Bill Johnson undergo extensive comprehensive evaluations and testing. The goal of working with the Pittsburgh medical team is to overcome some difficulties Bill has experienced and improve his quality of life. “There will be an extended strategy and care plan developed. Bill, his family and the medical team are all hopeful that improvements are possible and will be realized. This is the next logical step in the long and extended process of recovery of traumatic brain injury. While Bill has been able to work, travel and attend events around the world as a spokesperson for traumatic brain injury and other groups and organizations, there is still more work to do for Bill to improve his life.” according to a spokesperson working with the Johnson family. Bill Johnson, his family and the Bill Johnson Foundation wish to thank the community for the generous outpouring of support that has been shown during these difficult times.
