Finding the Most Effective and Affordable Way to Give You and Your Family Clean, Refreshing Water for a Long and Healthy Life

Finding the Most Effective and Affordable Way to Give You and Your Family Clean, Refreshing Water for a Long and Healthy Life

Fresh-Water-Filters. com is a newly-launched website aiming to provide visitors with the know-all about home water filtration and what it can do for your health. Learn about the inadequacy of tap water, the rip-off of the bottled water industry and find long-lasting solutions for your drinking and showering water.

Houston, TX (PRWEB) June 21, 2007

Fresh-Water-Filters. com announces its launch today, informing visitors on the health and economic benefits of home water filtration.

Although many people recognise the importance of a regular intake of water during the day, finding a practical and cost-effective solution to the problems of water taste, hard water and poorly treated tap water can be difficult.

The bottled water industry has made a killing with its product -- one need only cast a half-interested eye over the refrigerators at the local grocery store to see how popular it is. This may be fine when taking the family out on a hot day to the park or the beach. Yet for everyday use, most people will find themselves shedding dollars as fast as they can drink -- between $1 and $4 per gallon, and the lacklustre regulation of the quality of bottled water exposes the public to the risk of drinking something that is worse than tap water. Further, all of that plastic packaging potentially adds up to a serious environmental cost.

Home water filtration is able to satisfy the need for clean, refreshing water for a fraction of the price of bottled water. Indeed, after the (nearly always) modest cost of the unit, maintenance is usually as low as 10 cents a gallon, often less. Further, the rigorous filtration or purification methods offered by today's manufacturers guarantees a much better quality of drinking water than what is served in a bottle. Plus, one has the advantage of tasting the difference between what comes straight out of the tap and what comes out of the filter.

But why stop there? Daily showering can be vastly improved with a simple shower head water filter. Relieving one's skin and hair from the effects of chlorine is far more refreshing and revitalizing than a normal shower, and will prevent the inhalation and adsorption of chloroform, a mixture of chlorine and other chemicals in the air.

These are only two of the options available from the selection of water filtration products on offer today. Fresh-Water-Filters. com has been designed to help visitors find the solution that is best suited to the health and wellbeing of themselves and their families.

Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund and Callen-Lorde Community Health Center Announce Transgender Health Partnership

Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund and Callen-Lorde Community Health Center Announce Transgender Health Partnership

The Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund (TLDEF) joined the Callen-Lorde Community Health Center today in announcing the formation of a partnership designed to improve access to quality health care for transgender New Yorkers.

NEW YORK, NY (PRWEB) April 27, 2006 -–

The Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund (TLDEF) joined the Callen-Lorde Community Health Center today in announcing the formation of a partnership designed to improve access to quality health care for transgender New Yorkers. The partnership, which is housed within TLDEF’s community organizing project – the Transgender Health Initiative of New York (THINY) – is designed to ensure optimal access to health care for transgender and gender-variant people in New York City. The partnership will be know as the THINY – Callen-Lorde Transgender Health Partnership and will involve quarterly meetings between Callen-Lorde staff and THINY members.

Transgender New Yorkers routinely face obstacles including harassment, humiliation, and refusals to provide services when seeking access to health care. TLDEF and THINY members have been meeting with Callen-Lorde staff members since late last year to formulate concrete solutions to these obstacles. And Callen-Lorde recently adopted a patient protocol that reaffirms its commitment to providing transgender-sensitive health care services to its transgender and gender-variant patients.

“Callen-Lorde has always been at the forefront of transgender care, and we applaud Callen-Lorde for its commitment to eliminating all obstacles to care that transgender people experience,” THINY member Justine Nicholas said. Through this partnership, Callen-Lorde has reaffirmed its commitment to providing quality, transgender-sensitive health care. “We are committed to working with the community to ensure that our services to transgendered people are as good as they can be,” said Jay Laudato, Callen-Lorde’s Executive Director.

The Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund, Inc., is a national non-profit civil rights organization committed to ending discrimination based upon gender identity and expression and to achieving equality for transgender people through public education, test-case litigation, direct legal services, community organizing and public policy efforts. The Transgender Health Initiative of New York is a TLDEF project whose objective is to empower the transgender community to demand equal access to safe, non-discriminatory health care services.

Callen-Lorde Community Health Center provides quality health care and related services primarily to New York's lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender communities regardless of ability to pay. To further this mission, Callen-Lorde promotes health education and wellness and advocates for gay, lesbian, and transgender health issues.

Watch Out for Debt Relief Grants, DestroyDebt. com Tells Consumers

Watch Out for Debt Relief Grants, DestroyDebt. com Tells Consumers

DestroyDebt. com is warning consumers to watch out before signing up for "debt relief grants" being offered by debt help companies. These advertisements are often misrepresenting the nature of the services being offered and in fact are usually offering debt settlement services, an effective but misunderstood option for debt relief.

Wood Dale, IL (PRWEB) September 17, 2010

Finding reprieve from mounting debt is a pressing concern, so much so that some have fallen prey to certain debt help (http://www. destroydebt. com) companies who promise significant relief, for a price. DestroyDebt. com, an education resource and forum for consumers seeking information about how to get out of debt, is directing consumers to reputable resources of information and solutions and warning consumers to watch out - the offer being presented may not be what it seems to be.

A search on the internet will yield an attractive array of potential companies that are eager to point you in the right direction when it comes to debt relief. Many web sites feature government grants that can be taken advantage of. The question is, are these companies taking advantage of you?

Does the government really grant funds to taxpayers in order to assist them with their debts? How legit are these debt help companies?

The truth is that government debt relief grants and assistance for debts can be found, but it takes some digging and it is rarely if ever for credit card debt. Any site that pledges immediate consolidated relief through one large payment directed to you through the government or state is likely offering a controversial but effective debt consolidation program (http://www. destroydebt. com/sections/debt-consolidation. html) known as debt settlement.

There are government sites however that can give useful advice if finding a grant for your debt problem is in fact your only option. Check it out for yourself. As a starting point, go to the source, www. usa. gov (http://www. usa. gov), and search the keywords 'debt relief.' You will find links on credit card settlement, (http://www. destroydebt. com/sections/debt-settlement. html) information on unscrupulous advertisements promoting debt relief, and learn how to search for free money and grants.

Government grants are available for both individuals and businesses. The Small Business Administration offers many grants for first time entrepreneurs and struggling business owners. Scholarship grants are available to students to assist with loans. Health care expenses from unexpected medical emergencies quickly pile up. Government grants can be found through the Department of Health and Human Services and private health grant foundations.

Home foreclosures are consistently one of the biggest reasons individuals turn to outside debt assistance. Many banks are willing to work directly with their consumers, and under the Housing Stimulus Plan, the government has mandated lenders to collaborate with homeowners so that mortgages can be refinanced under agreeable terms and loan modifications made to prevent rising foreclosures.

Liabilities owed to the Internal Revenue Service also carry increasing penalties and interest. Because of this, balances owed to the IRS can quickly become unmanageable.

The subject of tax relief is monopolized by countless companies that promise personal representation and “pennies of the dollar.” Unfortunately, many of these so called tax accountants and attorneys provide services to taxpayers that are made directly available by the IRS.

In fact, there are no special programs available to third party CPA’s, lawyers or anyone else that are not obtainable to a taxpayer directly. Before you pay any debt service handfuls of money under the pledge of a massive cutback on your tax bill, contact the IRS directly and speak to them about their Offer in Compromise program. Any outside agency that assures ‘one time tax settlements’ is only charging you for the same compromise program that taxpayers can submit themselves.

Introducing Glyconutrients, a Revolutionary Patent Pending Technology that can Help Your Body Heal Itself and Maintain Optimal Health

Introducing Glyconutrients, a Revolutionary Patent Pending Technology that can Help Your Body Heal Itself and Maintain Optimal Health

If you or someone you care about is struggling with pain, fatigue, an autoimmune disease, or even a life threatening disease, investigate this information carefully. What you will learn will likely defy your belief about reversing disease.

(PRWEB) May 6, 2005

Thousands of medical reports have been examined, the numbers have been tallied, and the conclusion is sobering: misdiagnoses and carelessness is the leading cause of death and injury in the United States.

Health maintenance and disease prevention has never been more important. What our healthcare system doesnÂ’t tell us is that the human body is a powerful entity, designed to heal itself during times of illness or disorder when certain natural conditions are met.

Many factors in our daily lives today create dangerous stress in our bodies. These stress factors are the main cause of disease today. Why? A major reason is our lack of proper nutrition which results in a cell communication breakdown. This in turn leads to a lowered defense system within the body. The result is an invisible attack from within that our bodies are not equipped to handle. We later become aware of the illness once it rises above the surface.

Do you know that most of us today are suffering from certain dangerous diet deficiencies which cannot be remedied until depleted soils from which our food comes from are brought back into proper mineral balance.

The alarming fact is that foods (fruits, vegetables and grains) now being harvested on millions of acres of land, no longer contain enough of the necessary vitamins and minerals that our bodyÂ’s require, which is basically starving us. No one today can eat enough fruits and vegetables to supply their system with the vitamins minerals their body requires for perfect health.

For example, take the potato, by far the most consumed food in the US. The average spud has lost 100 per cent of its vitamin A, which is important for good eyesight; 57 per cent of its vitamin C and iron, a key component of healthy blood; and 28 per cent of its calcium, essential for building healthy bones and teeth. It has also lost 50 per cent of its riboflavin and 18 per cent of its thiamine. We also think of an orange as a constant, but the reality is it isn't. In fact, you would have to eat eight oranges today to get the same amount of nutrients that your grandparents got from a single orange 50 years ago. These are just two examples of many.

A depletion in our top soil, modern farming methods, long-haul transportation and crop-breeding practices are all believed to be the contributing factors to the drop in vitamins and minerals in our food supply today.

The emphasis in our food supply system is to produce higher yields, to be resistant to disease and to produce more visually attractive fruits and vegetables, than it is on their vitamin or mineral content.

The Greek work “glyco” means “sweet”. So “glyconutrient” means “sweet nutrient”, or a dietary nutrient composed of a sugars. Before you start popping M&Ms as if they were miracle pills, be warned that it’s not that kind of sugar that holds medicinal powers. There’s sugar and there are sugars.

Recent scientific research has shown that eight simple dietary sugars (monosaccharides), most of which are no longer found in abundance in the modern diet, are crucial in the formation of the very words of life at the cellular level. These sugars combine with proteins and fats to create Glycoforms that coat the surface of every cell in the body. Glycoforms function as cellular recognition molecules that communicate the messages a body needs to function in good health. These eight sugars are mannose, glucose, galactose, xylose, fucose, N-acetylglucosamine, N-acetylgalactosamine and N-acetylneuraminic acid. Only glucose and galactose are found commonly in our diet. Being deficient in six of those sugars, our cells will lack the symbols (glycoforms) needed for proper cellular communication.

In our English language there are four basic symbols that make up our entire language. If one or two symbols are missing, there would be a breakdown in communication. The same is true with cellular communication, when even one sugar is missing the cells cannot communicate all of their needs. Glyconutrients help the body to heal itself by giving the cells the ability to communicate efficiently. There have been many studies that demonstrate their powerful effects in the immune system.

Glyconutrients support the 4 major building blocks that the body needs to properly maintain itself. If one of these building blocks is missing the whole defense mechanism can short circuit leading to what we interpret as disease. This “systems” approach to health embraces the concept of strengthening the internal environment of the body, so that it can properly regulate itself. Combined, the 4 building blocks synergistically create a symphony of health and protection.

2010 Donations to RMHC Exemplify the Value of "Strength in Numbers&quot

2010 Donations to RMHC Exemplify the Value of "Strength in Numbers"

Support From Individual and Corporate Donors, McDonald's and Its Owner/Operators Fund the Opening of 11 New Ronald McDonald Houses, 18 Ronald McDonald Family Rooms and Put Three New Ronald McDonald Care Mobiles on the Road

Oak Brook, IL (Vocus/PRWEB) December 29, 2010

In 2010, nearly 200,000 families around the world found strength and support while dealing with critically ill children because of generous individual and corporate donors to Ronald McDonald House Charities® (RMHC®). Although McDonald's® is the Charity's largest corporate donor, RMHC relies on strength in numbers, uniting individual and corporate supporters, to deliver its programs to more than 11,500 families each day. This year alone, contributions have helped RMHC and its network of Chapters open 11 new Ronald McDonald House® Programs, 18 new Ronald McDonald Family Room® Programs and put three new Ronald McDonald Care Mobile® Programs on the road.

As a corporate donor, McDonald's supports RMHC, Inc. through free use of its facilities, equipment and materials, as well as covering 42 percent of the global organization’s administrative costs, ensuring that a greater portion of donations go directly to the programs supporting children and families that need it. However, at the very foundation of McDonald's support for RMHC are the many Owner/Operators who volunteer their time and money to make local RMHC programs possible. This support dates back to 1974 when McDonald's Owner/Operators in Philadelphia came together to help open the first Ronald McDonald House by donating the proceeds from that year's sale of Shamrock Shakes. Today that support continues as Owner/Operators participate in local and global RMHC boards and support fundraising events like McHappy Day® and Give a Hand®, which has raised $170 million globally since 2002. In 2010, participating Owner/Operators in the U. S. also raised visibility and funds for RMHC throughout the year by making a contribution from the sale of each Happy Meal® and Mighty Kids Meal®. And, RMHC Donation Boxes, that are located on the front counters and in drive-thrus at participating restaurants in the U. S., are the largest ongoing source of fundraising for the Charity, generating nearly $25 million in contributions this year alone.

Having been involved with the Charity for more than 20 years and now serving as president of the RMHC Chapter in South Florida, Alex Rodriguez exemplifies the ways Owner/Operators around the country support the Charity. He is an active member of the U. S. RMHC Scholarship program selection committee helping his Chapter distribute over $40,000 in scholarship awards to 21 students in 2010. And his dedication to the Charity continues, "I am committed to the vision and mission of RMHC, and it's a privilege to invest my time, resources and expertise to help the Chapter move forward to grow and continue to provide stability and vital resources to families so they can get and keep their child healthy and happy. Every year in South Florida, we support 520 families served by the Ronald McDonald House program, and award more than $200,000 in grants to local nonprofit organizations that are also committed to improving the health and well being of children.”

As a member of the Grant Committee that supports children's charities throughout the state of North Carolina, and as a member of the Board of Directors of RMHC of North Carolina, Debra Smith also exemplifies the ways Owner/Operators around the country support the Charity. She leads and participates in many projects that provide vital resources to children in her community. “RMHC does such an outstanding job serving families with seriously ill children and providing grants for community programs for children statewide and globally. This truly motivates me to continue my involvement with RMHC,” said Smith.

RMHC is "everybody's Charity" and support for its programs and services extend far beyond the McDonald's community. In 2010:
-- BrandSource® donated nearly 1,000 major appliances to equip Ronald McDonald Houses and Ronald McDonald Camps in the United States and Canada.
-- Thanks to La-Z-Boy®, the "Official Furniture Provider" for RMHC, families staying in 165 Ronald McDonald Houses and Ronald McDonald Family Rooms found the comforts of home in familiar chairs and sofas.
-- 181 Ronald McDonald Houses in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Hong Kong were kept clean with household cleaning products donated by BISSELL®.
-- Seventy Ronald McDonald Houses in the United States and Canada were made brighter with 6,600 gallons of paint donated by Benjamin Moore®.
-- For 450,000 nights, more than 50,000 parents and other family members slept soundly on beds that Tempur-Pedic® donated to 27 Ronald McDonald Houses in the United States. The list goes on and on.

"There is tremendous power in our donors working together so a child can have access to the medical services they need as well as have their parents close by to give them hugs, kisses and, most importantly, love, which helps them cope better and recover faster," said Linda Dunham, board of trustees chairperson, RMHC.

Buying a Horse Trailer - Considerations to Guarantee the Safety of Your Horse

Buying a Horse Trailer - Considerations to Guarantee the Safety of Your Horse

There are certain things you should consider when buying a new horse trailer. After all, you want make sure that you’re getting a safe, quality trailer that meets the needs of your horse(s), as well as your own needs.

Southern Pines, NC (PRWEB) September 14, 2006

There are certain things you should consider when buying a new horse trailer. After all, you want make sure that you’re getting a safe, quality trailer that meets the needs of your horse(s), as well as your own needs.

The first and foremost thing you should consider when shopping for a new horse trailer is your horse(s). Keep in mind that horses are claustrophobic by nature. Therefore, a trailer with plenty of room, light, and ventilation will create less stress on the horse. In turn, the horse will load more easily and will travel more comfortably. He will also be less likely to injure himself and will be less likely to suffer from stress-related health problems such as shipping fever, dehydration, and colic.

The size of your horse is a very important factor to consider. Most likely, you don’t enjoy being cramped-up in tight quarters when you travel. And, neither does your horse! If the horse doesn’t have enough room to move its legs forward and sideways, it could lose its balance while moving.

Narrow trailers and trailers with full center dividers can potentially cause the horse to scramble, because he does not have enough space to spread his legs to keep his balance. Be aware that slant load trailers are not styled for horses that are over 15.3h, and the length of the stall is not long enough to allow the horse freedom of movement. Horses over 15.3h should have at least 7 feet of stall length and 3 feet of head area - 10 feet overall.

In the past, a 7 foot tall trailer was considered extra tall. Today, however, it isn’t unusual for trailers to be 7'4" to 7'6" tall. This height should be considered for any horse over 15.3h. There should also be enough room for the horse to lower its head to remove debris (hay dust and other contaminants in the trailer) by coughing, in order to keep his respiratory tract clear.

Make sure there are no sharp edges or protrusions anywhere on the trailer. (Check both inside and out.) Look at the floor boards. These should run the length of the trailer (vertically), not across the trailer (horizontally), and there should be good support underneath.

Floor mats and ramps should be non-slip. Ramps should not be steep. If it’s a step-up trailer, the horse should be able to walk out headfirst when unloading. (Step-up trailers can be dangerous when backing the horse out, because the horse can slip under the trailer and possibly receive a major injury, as a result.)

For safer trailering, rubber torsion suspension is available on almost all newer trailers. This type of suspension greatly reduces the amount of shock. As a result, the horse absorbs less shock through the floor of the trailer, thereby reducing stress to the horse. Also, if the trailer should have a flat tire, rubber torsion suspension allows the remaining three wheels to maintain the trailer until you can get to a safe place to change the tire.

Quick-release mechanisms on all tie rings, center dividers, chest bars, and butt bars are a must-have for safety and convenience. Construction material and all other parts should be strong enough to hold up to the largest, strongest horse you will be hauling. In fact, the strength of the trailer, not its weight, should be your first priority, if you have large horses to haul. How well will the trailer hold up to a panicky horse or in a traffic accident?

Now that you’ve taken into consideration the needs of your horse(s), it’s time to consider your own needs. Do you need a trailer for hauling horses long distances or short distances? If you’ll be frequently traveling long distances, will you need a dressing room for showing or a gooseneck for sleeping? Are you comfortable towing a large rig across the country? (Keep in mind that, once you’ve chosen the right horse trailer for you, you’ll need to buy a tow vehicle to pull the trailer.)

Beasley Allen Files Coal Ash Spill Class Action Lawsuit on Behalf of Residents and Property Owners Affected by Disaster

Beasley Allen Files Coal Ash Spill Class Action Lawsuit on Behalf of Residents and Property Owners Affected by Disaster

Beasley, Allen, Crow, Methvin, Portis & Miles, P. C., has filed a class action suit on behalf of property owners damaged by the Dec. 22, 2008 Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) spill at the Kingston Fossil Plant. Located 40 miles west of Knoxville, Tenn., the plant released 1.1 billion gallons of toxin-laden sludge into a rural neighborhood when a waste storage pond retaining wall failed. The suit is filed against the TVA, the nation's largest public utility, over potentially the most significant environmental disaster since the Exxon Valdez oil spill.

Montgomery, Ala. (PRWEB) January 9, 2009

Beasley, Allen, Crow, Methvin, Portis & Miles, P. C. (http://www. beasleyallen. com), has filed a class action lawsuit (http://www. beasleyallen. com/news/Beasley-Allen-files-coal-ash-spill-class-action-lawsuit-on-behalf-of-residents-and-property-owners-affected-by-disaster/) (3:09-CV-00009) on behalf of property owners damaged by the Dec. 22, 2008 Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) coal ash spill (http://www. coal-ash-spill. com/) at the Kingston Fossil Plant.

The class action complaint was filed today in U. S. District Court, Eastern District of Tennessee.

Beasley Allen will be working with attorneys Gary Davis and Mary Parker in Tennessee, both of whom have Environmental experience. Beasley Allen has its own Environmental department to handle cases such as this disaster. The firm has handled previous environmental claims including a $700 million settlement (http://tinyurl. com/8cwad5) with Monsanto/Solutia in Anniston (CV-2001-832), Ala., over PCB contamination, the largest environmental settlement in American history. More recently, Beasley Allen obtained a $20.7 million verdict (US 07-257) against manufacturers of carbon black )for nearby property owners, a verdict that was upheld by the United States Supreme Court.

Coal-fired power plants produce coal ash and other toxic waste byproducts. The material is usually stored on site in retention ponds or dams. A failure in the retaining wall, or an overflow, can result in an environmental disaster contaminating surrounding waterways, soil, and wildlife, and endangering human health and life.

There is ongoing debate about how coal ash is stored and regulated. Currently, the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency does not regulate these types of retention ponds or the materials contained in them. Surprisingly, the EPA does not consider the coal ash hazardous material. There is a great deal of debate over whether state regulations are sufficient to regulate these retention ponds, as evidenced by this most recent disaster.

"It is absolutely incredible that there is no real oversight for the storage and safe disposal of this toxic waste," said Beasley Allen attorney Rhon Jones, who specializes in Environmental issues. "Most of these retention ponds are not lined or reinforced, and it's inevitable that potentially hazardous material will leak out. They just are not a long-term solution. It's only a matter of time before the next disaster. These facilities are everywhere - Alabama, Tennessee. Communities are living under a cloud, uncertain of their safety."

There is a U. S. Senate hearing set for Jan. 8 to review the Tennessee disaster that will include representatives from the TVA and environmental groups. Beasley Allen attorneys have contacted Congressional leaders offering to speak at the hearings, and lawyers from the Beasley Allen team will be present in Washington.

SUWS Wilderness Therapy Program Reaches Superior Level of Clinical Excellence with Introduction of Clinical Psychologist

SUWS Wilderness Therapy Program Reaches Superior Level of Clinical Excellence with Introduction of Clinical Psychologist

SUWS welcomes Chris Edwards, PhD, as its clinical director, enhancing the program’s ability to conduct on-site psychological testing and incorporate clinical insights into every child’s treatment plan.

Shoshone, ID (PRWEB) April 12, 2010

SUWS wilderness program for youth and adolescents announces the appointment of Chris Edwards, PhD, as its clinical director.

Dr. Edwards received his doctorate in Psychology from Hofstra University and has more than 15 years of clinical experience, both in private practice and a variety of clinical settings.

As clinical director, Dr. Edwards trains and supervises all direct care staff and clinicians, oversees treatment planning for each student at SUWS and conducts clinical testing when appropriate to a child’s care. He also works with families to change the dynamics at home and make plans for the child’s future.

SUWS is always searching for new ways to provide even more comprehensive and individualized treatment for struggling youth and their families. In addition to its already sophisticated clinical program, which includes assessments, solo experiences, and individual, group and family therapy, SUWS has added another valuable tool to its therapeutic milieu: an on-site psychologist.

When clinically appropriate, Dr. Edwards assesses the students’ intellectual and cognitive functioning through IQ and achievement tests to determine whether any underlying learning disabilities exist which might explain a student’s difficulty in school and other negative behaviors.

There is also an emotional and behavioral component to the testing at SUWS, which helps the therapists understand whether a student is struggling with a psychological condition such as a mood disorder or bipolar disorder, or is acting out because of poor coping or communication skills or some other issue.

“These tests give us a 360-degree picture of the emotional, behavioral and learning issues affecting each student so that we can tailor treatment to their particular needs,” said Dr. Edwards.

There are a number of benefits to having a clinical testing psychologist on-site at SUWS. For example, if a student is struggling or an issue begins to emerge, Dr. Edwards can assess the student right away – as the issue is unfolding – rather than waiting for an off-site psychologist to arrive.

Although it can be beneficial to perform tests at the beginning and end of a wilderness program, it is often more informative to assess a child when they are beginning to feel comfortable opening up and sharing, or when therapists begin to identify potential clinical issues. On-site testing provides immediate feedback so the staff at SUWS can adapt their approach based on each student’s needs.

“Having an on-site clinical testing psychologist has advanced the entire clinical process at SUWS, from the caliber of therapists we hire to our ability to individualize treatment plans,” said Kathy Rex, the executive director of SUWS Adolescent and Youth Programs. “Under Dr. Edwards’ leadership, the knowledge and skill of our clinicians and our direct care staff will be greatly enhanced.”

SUWS is a short-term, high-impact wilderness program. With an improved ability to identify clinical issues on a timely basis, the treatment team can make an even greater impact in a short period of time.

“By evaluating and interpreting test results and incorporating what we learn into our treatment plans, we can make a big impact in just a few weeks,” said Rex. “In the long run, that means our families save money, which allows them to invest in the long-term progress of their child.”

About SUWS

SUWS offers therapeutic wilderness programs for boys and girls ages 11 to 17 with a focus on clinical intervention and assessment. Based in southern Idaho, the programs use the outdoors as an alternative to conventional treatment environments, while engaging students using traditional therapeutic methods. Since 1981, SUWS programs have provided guidance and support to thousands of misdirected and at-risk teens experiencing low self-esteem, defiant behavior, attention deficit, depression, substance abuse and other emotional and behavioral issues.

SUWS is a program of Aspen Education Group, the nation’s leading provider of therapeutic education programs for struggling or underachieving young people. Aspen’s services range from short-term intervention programs to residential treatment, and include a variety of therapeutic settings such as boarding schools, outdoor behavioral health programs and special needs summer camps, allowing professionals and families the opportunity to choose the best setting to meet a student’s unique academic and emotional needs.

Aspen Education Group is a member of CRC Health Group, the most comprehensive network of specialized behavioral care services in the nation. For over two decades, CRC Health has been achieving successful outcomes for individuals and families.

Football Player's Velvet Antler Good for the Mascot Too

Football Player's Velvet Antler Good for the Mascot Too

Recent publicity about velvet antler being used by NFL football players to enhance athletic performance focuses on only on the IGF-1 factor. But there are many more advantages that are attributed to the elk’s antlers, including benefits to their animal mascots, and our pets as well.

Sheffield, MA (PRWEB) January 23, 2011

Recent publicity about velvet antler being used by NFL football players to enhance athletic performance focuses on only on the IGF-1 factor. But there are many more advantages that are attributed to the elk’s antlers, including benefits to their animal mascots, and our pets as well. Pet owners and trainers have been gleaning velvet antler benefits for their animals for many years. It is the unsung supplement of choice for aging pets, agility animals, cats and dogs having joint problems and even puppies to set them on a good immune course for life. Tests and testimonials confirm this.

Traditional uses of velvet antler are many and various, but they tend to fall into the general categories of support for body strengthening, blood cell production, immune support and cardiovascular health and function. Benefits for dogs competing in Agility trials are numerous. According to a trainer from New Zealand, “I put my oldest dog Bree onto Agility Advanced formula, she had been out of competition for three months due to injury, once on the Agility Advanced formula she improved greatly and returned to the competition ring, at one of her first events back competing, she managed to win the first ever Jumpers A (top grade) Challenge Certificate given out in New Zealand, plus came second in Jumpers A2 and 3rd in both Intermediate and Senior."

Quicker normal Recovery from muscle damage due to exercise was reported in a human study done by the University of Otago. Dogs who regularly perform agility trials have shown that when velvet antler was administered, not only did their performance increase, but the animal recovered from muscle stress and injury much faster. Scientists in China and Russia have both shown by use of standardized forced swimming tests that velvet enhances the stamina of mice. A Korean in vitro study showed that velvet extract protected against free-radicals, an immune-supportive function. Health benefits that include reversing anemia were confirmed in studies on rabbits. This has been validated by numerous veterinarians and pet owners. In that same study it was shown that velvet antler also combats fatigue, a benefit for animals and their owners alike.

Veterinarians across the world are using it in their treatment of animals. According to Dr. Doron Zur, Animals Kapiti Ltd, New Zealand, “Eighty-five percent of my clients, whose dogs and cats used a supplement containing velvet antler and green lipped mussel, found that there was a marked improvement in the agility and mobility of their pets. There was also a noticeable improvement in the condition of the animal’s coats and skin.” Dr. Amiel Shlomi, Northern Israel commented that “I decided to use it on a dog that had not responded to any other (conventional) treatment. Within a few days only the dog had started running! After that Deer Velvet became very popular among my colleague vets in my practices, and we have now prescribed several hundred bottles of velvet antler tablets. Furthermore, I am now using a human deer velvet product myself."

Not all deer velvet is alike. As with most supplements, the source can vary and in the processing is important. You need to find a product that is highly bioavailable. And it’s important to consider the humane aspect of harvesting the antler. According to one manufacturer, NZVEL “In domestic situations reputable deer velvet antler removal is carried out by veterinarians and specially trained farmers using analgesic techniques, this ensures the deer feel no pain. Velvet antler is a complete renewable, environmentally friendly product that should be made without harming the deer. Ours is harvested from New Zealand farm raised domestic wapiti and red deer. They are raised under strict conditions that ensure the safety, comfort and dignity of these beautiful creatures.” For more information: http://www. nzvelvetagility. com

New RFID Technology Tracks and Monitors Nuclear Materials

New RFID Technology Tracks and Monitors Nuclear Materials

Advancement has Applications in Many Areas Involving Remote Sensing

Argonne, IL (Vocus) March 24, 2009

Radio frequency identification (RFID) devices have widely been used for tracking for years; recently, scientists from U. S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Argonne National Laboratory have developed a unique tracking technology that also monitors the environmental and physical conditions of containers of nuclear materials in storage and transportation.

"RFID technology is ideally suited for management of nuclear materials during both storage and transportation," said Dr. Yung Liu, Argonne senior nuclear engineer and RFID project manager. "Key information about the nuclear materials is acquired in real-time," he explained.

Data on the status and history of each individual container are available with a click of the mouse and can be used to augment and modernize DOE's existing management systems for nuclear materials.

"The Argonne system can simultaneously monitor thousands of drums 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Any abnormal situation, such a loss of seal, a sudden shock, a rise in temperature or humidity, can trigger an alarm for immediate action," Liu explained.

The monitoring of tens of thousands of radioactive and fissile material packages has been a challenge for DOE to ensure accountability, safety, security and worker and public health.

"The RFID system that Dr. Liu and his group developed with collaborators will help DOE overcome this challenge," said Dr. James Shuler, Manager of DOE Packaging Certification Program, Office of Environmental Management.

The system is comprised of active transponders, or tags with long-life batteries (>10 years), on each package, readers that collect information from the tags, control computer, and application software. The information is constantly updated and communicated via a secured network, thus decreasing the need for manned surveillance. Explained Liu, "information can be retrieved promptly by local and authorized off-site users via a secured network for action."

This RFID technology also has applications outside the nuclear field and may be used for other hazardous materials or any valued material, according to Liu.

"This new Argonne RFID technology, expected to be patented, has applications in many industries and as the technology is further developed, its usefulness is bound to grow," Liu said.

A video of the technology can be viewed at http://www. media. anl. gov/TechnicalServices/DIS/RFID. wmv (http://www. media. anl. gov/TechnicalServices/DIS/RFID. wmv).

Funding for this project was made by the U. S. Department of Energy, Office of Environmental Management. The Office of Environmental Management (EM) is responsible for the risk reduction and safe cleanup of the environmental legacy of the Nation's nuclear weapons program and government-sponsored nuclear energy research and is one of the largest, most diverse, and technically complex environmental programs in the world. For more information about EM go to http://www. em. doe. gov (http://www. em. doe. gov).

The U. S. Department of Energy's Argonne National Laboratory seeks solutions to pressing national problems in science and technology. The nation's first national laboratory, Argonne conducts leading-edge basic and applied scientific research in virtually every scientific discipline. Argonne researchers work closely with researchers from hundreds of companies, universities, and federal, state and municipal agencies to help them solve their specific problems, advance America's scientific leadership and prepare the nation for a better future. With employees from more than 60 nations, Argonne is managed by UChicago Argonne, LLC (http://www. uchicagoargonnellc. org) for the U. S. One of the most alarming trends of the past decade has been the non-stop rounds of layoffs in corporate America. In an effort to achieve short-term gains in their stock price, these corporations also achieved another result: their employees learned that the rules of old-fashioned loyalty are no longer honored. As a result, millions of Americans are turning to home-based businesses to achieve their dreams and goals. CNI is an ideal way for you to do the same.

With your own home-based business, you can become the CEO of your career and your life. No more worries about getting laid off or getting a raise. Contemporary Nutrition International has assembled a team of the most highly regarded and discriminating scientists in the industry. Timing is Everything

ItÂ’s impossible for a company to succeed against great odds. But we prefer to stack the odds in our favor. And for good reason. WeÂ’ve discovered that the best way to create a competitive edge is to make sure everything is perfectly in place to take advantage of current market conditions.

At CNI, our finger is on the pulse of the health and nutrition industry so that we can carefully develop superior quality products that are in demand. When the market speaks, we listen. With the right products and the best management in place, the probability of huge success increases astronomically. And We know how to put it all in motion.

In noted economist and author Paul Zane Pilzer’s best-selling book, The Wellness Revolution, he paints a vivid picture of how our world is heading to a trillion dollar “wellness” industry. Pilzer clearly shows why millions of customers will flock to find better health and a higher quality of life.

These customers are all around us. In fact, they are us! And they are looking for reliable products that delivers results. ThatÂ’s how trillion dollar industries are born. And thatÂ’s why the coming trillion-dollar wellness industry is your opportunity to achieve greatness.

“We are now at the very beginning of the next trillion dollar industry – an industry that will impact almost every aspect of our lives and achieve $1 trillion in sales within 10 years, but one that is as unknown today as the automobile industry was in 1908 or the personal computer industry was in 1981.” – Paul Zane Pilzer

Behind every great company you will find great leadership. And CNI is no exception. If you are looking for a company owned and managed by proven winners, then CNI is the place for you. Together, the dynamic husband-and-wife team of Jason Boreyko and Tara Boreyko have the desire and experience necessary to lead you and CNI to the highest levels of success.

As a well-respected fitness model, Tara Boreyko is currently enjoying the fruits of a successful modeling career and has been featured on the cover of AmericaÂ’s leading health and fitness publications. With a monthly feature column in a leading womenÂ’s health magazine, she continues to be a strong voice for the health and fitness industry.

In fact, she has served as the Editor and Chief for Women’s Fitness magazine and has also starred in three of her own “high-energy” work out videos. As a successful entrepreneur, Tara Boreyko is now focusing her efforts on CNI and is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of others through better nutrition and life-changing business opportunities.

And when it comes to success in network marketing, nothing can compare to the achievements of Jason Boreyko. Just ask Success Magazine. As a second-generation network marketer, Jason Boreyko is a living example of the learning potential available to all in the network marketing industry.

After working for several years in the field as a top producing distributor, Jason co-founded the Company of his dreams in 1995. As the CEO of this start-up company, he then went on to help build the fastest-growing network marketing company in history, generating over $700,000,000 in sales with a distributor pay out totaling $300,000,000 in just seven years.

As a gifted writer, author, and motivational speaker, Jason has empowered thousands of future champions to reach their full economic potential through his personal development seminars. With the synergy of Jason and Tara Brooke, your future has never looked brighter.

Provide Help Where itÂ’s Vitally Needed

America is in the middle of a serious health crisis. As a nation, weÂ’re wealthier than ever before, yet weÂ’re paying a serious toll with problems such as obesity, being overweight, fatigue, and stress. As a result, consumers are crying out for answers.

They want natural alternatives that will help them live a better quality of life through looking and feeling better. They want to enjoy the things that make life worth living. The facts are clear – the dietary supplement industry continues to flood the market with more of the same ineffective products that simply don’t work.

You see, more often than not these dietary supplement companies compete on the basis of what we call “better sameness.” It all starts when a single ingredient becomes popular for helping a specific health issue. Then a multitude of companies all focus on the same ingredient and develop many different versions of basically the very same product.

At CNI we saw an opportunity to create truly unique products that provide a complete range of benefits, and donÂ’t just address one problem.

This “multi-dimensional” approach works so well because health issues have multiple causes and multiple symptoms. By approaching health problems in a comprehensive – or multi-dimensional – way, we’ve unlocked an incredibly powerful approach to overall wellness.

We listen to what people want, and we deliver products that really work. CNI and our dedicated staff of health and nutrition specialists are committed to assisting those who need our help to achieve optimum health and wellness.

We want everyone to enjoy a healthier, more active lifestyle for many years to come. We donÂ’t just talk about better health, we deliver the cutting-edge products that can help make it happen!

Better Products Begin with Better Thinking

ThereÂ’s a big problem with being ordinary. ItÂ’s justÂ…wellÂ…ordinary. So when it comes to creating nutritional products, ordinary approaches just donÂ’t cut it.

At CNI, we develop better products by assembling the best possible team of scientists and formulators. These proven professionals capitalize on their vast knowledge to create powerful products that truly change lives for the better. Feed My Brain, Lean Mystique, Sweet Jubilee and Premier Essentials were created using natural ingredients to work along with your body.

The Perfect Blend of Nature and Superior Science

Whether from primal Rainforests or other hard-to-reach places around the globe, weÂ’re committed to including in our products only the highest quality ingredients found in nature.

When combined with our advanced scientific findings and techniques, the results are excellent products formulated in a uniquely powerful way for your body to help heal itself and increase your overall health and well-being.

WeÂ’re committed to helping you achieve more than you ever imagined. Our products are the best, and our business opportunity is designed to help you maximize your earnings.

Respiratory Therapists Can Breathe Easier: Employment Opportunities Continue To Expand

Respiratory Therapists Can Breathe Easier: Employment Opportunities Continue To Expand

Respiratory therapists and their patients will breathe a little easier as opportunities in ArizonaÂ’s growing healthcare field continue to expand. Respiratory therapists are responsible for evaluating, treating and caring for patients with breathing or other cardiopulmonary disorders. Working under a physicianÂ’s direction, these trained professionals assume primary responsibility for all respiratory care therapeutic treatments and diagnostic procedures, including the supervision of respiratory therapy technicians.

(PRWEB) May 4, 2004

Respiratory therapists treat a variety of patients who range in age from premature infants with underdeveloped lungs who often need to be on ventilators, to elderly people with pulmonary disease. Respiratory therapists also treat patients with chronic asthma or emphysema, as well as administering care to patients who are victims of a heart attack, stroke, drowning or shock.

An increase of care for the middle-aged and elderly population who are at higher risk for cardiopulmonary disease is expected to make the demand even greater for respiratory therapists – especially in Arizona. Older Americans suffer most from respiratory ailments and cardiopulmonary diseases such as pneumonia, chronic bronchitis, emphysema and heart disease. As their numbers increase, the need for respiratory therapist will increase as well.

Job opportunities are particularly bright for respiratory therapists with cardiopulmonary care skills or experience working with infants. Employment of respiratory therapists is expected to increase faster than the average for all occupations through the year 2012. The Bureau of Labor Statistics states in their newly released data that the profession is expected to add some 37,837 new jobs between now and 2012.

Anticipating this growing need for healthcare practitioners, Pima Medical Institute, 3350 E. Grant Road in Tucson is now accepting students for their respiratory therapy program. This Tucson technical private school is helping to train and advance qualified students into fulfilling careers. Classes begin in May. Prospective students can call (520) 326-1600 to set up an appointment.

Graduates of the 88 credit-hour Respiratory Therapy program receive an Associate of Occupational Science degree. The program consists of classes in medical ethics, mathematics, chemistry, physics, human anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, advanced respiratory care techniques (including neonatal and adult special care procedures), general and advanced pharmacology, cardiopulmonary disease, patient assessment and the therapeutics that are required to function at the patientÂ’s bedside in the hospital setting. Entry-level employment opportunities are available in hospitals, medical centers, medical equipment companies, home health agencies, sub-acute, and extended care facilities.

PMI is one of the premiere medical vocational institutes in the western United States. The privately owned, accredited school provides students with a well-rounded education embracing theoretical classroom studies, as well as on-site training at medical facilities that mirror the working environment they will pursue after graduation.

Oh Mama! Finally, a Nutrition Bar for Pregnant Women

Oh Mama! Finally, a Nutrition Bar for Pregnant Women

Beth Vincent – Public Health Expert, Mother of Three and Co-Founder of Vincent Foods Introduces Oh Mama! -- Delicious Nutrition for a Healthy Pregnancy

Baltimore, MD (PRWEB) April 4, 2005

Addressing a void in the market for healthy and convenient foods aimed at pregnant women, Beth Vincent, CEO and Co-founder of Vincent Foods has created the Oh Mama! nutrition bar. Oh Mama! is the first nutrition bar formulated specifically to meet the needs of women who are trying to conceive, who are pregnant, or who are breastfeeding.

Getting the proper nutrition during pregnancy is critical. Doing so, however, is often a challenge for women who are busy, tired, or simply confused about what is best to eat. Oh Mama! nutrition bars are a convenient, healthy and delicious solution. The Oh Mama! nutrition bar delivers peace of mind to women as it contains DHA (an omega-3 fatty acid) as well as 14 vitamins and minerals recommended by the National Academy of Sciences for pregnant women in a tasty, low-fat snack.

Not only is Oh Mama! the first bar specifically designed for expectant and new mothers, it is one of few foods available with supplemental DHA. DHA has attracted attention in the news as a large and building body of research shows that this fatty acid, transferred from mother to child during pregnancy, is critical for a babyÂ’s brain, visual and central nervous system development. Unfortunately, there are not many sources of DHA in the typical American diet. Pregnant women, in particular, do not get enough of this important nutrient because they are cautioned to limit consumption of certain types of fish (a major source of DHA) due to concerns about mercury intake.

The inspiration for Oh Mama! came from Beth VincentÂ’s frustration in finding convenient, healthy and satisfying foods during her three pregnancies. Like most pregnant women, Beth became hungry at inconvenient times and was forced to eat what was readily available. Sometimes that meant eating a pop-tart, french fries, or crackers from a vending machine. When BethÂ’s doctor found out about some of the foods Beth was eating, the doctor recommended Beth eat more nutritious snacks for the health of the developing baby. The problem was that most nutritious snack foods just werenÂ’t convenient to bring to work or on errands. Beth saw that many of her friends also had a difficult time finding healthy and convenient foods to eat while pregnant and she decided to pursue a solution.

“I worked with doctors and nutritionists to design a bar that makes it both easy and enjoyable for women to get the proper nutrition at this time in their lives. In formulating this product we looked at what an average pregnant woman eats. We found that even with the help of a prenatal vitamin certain key nutrient levels were inadequate. Oh Mama! is meant to help those of us who can’t eat the perfect pregnancy diet,” explains Beth Vincent.

Dr. Suzanne Trupin, a Board Certified Obstetrician/Gynecologist, Professor at the University of Illinios Medical School and CEO of WomenÂ’s Health Practice in Champaign, Illinois has this to say about Oh Mama!,"I am excited to be able to offer the Oh Mama! nutrition bar to my patients. I only wish the bar had been available when I was pregnant with my children!"

Dr. Barbara Luke, ScD., M. P.H., 2005 recipient of March of Dimes Agnes Higgins Award in Maternal Nutrition and best selling author on maternal nutrition states, “As a nutritionist specializing in maternal and child health, I am always on the lookout for foods that help women get the right nutrition. The Oh Mama! bar is a wonderful source of vitamins and minerals for expectant and breastfeeding mothers. This unique product provides a convenient and delicious source of crucial nutrients often lacking in women’s diets. I wholeheartedly recommend Oh Mama! bars.”

With Oh Mama! Beth Vincent aims to create a stylish brand that helps women stay fit while helping their babies stay healthy. Beth has extensive education and work experience in public health and maternal and child health. She graduated from Johns Hopkins School of Public Health with a Masters in Health Policy and Management. She has worked in health care consulting, volunteered in both nutrition and prenatal clinics and has trained as a doula.

A low-fat, low-calorie, high-protein food, Oh Mama! supports active lifestyles. Oh Mama! bars come in three fantastic flavors: chocolate peanut butter, frosted white raspberry and yogurt honey ($22.50 per case of 15 bars when purchased on the Internet) and can be purchased online at www. ohmamabar. com and in many upscale maternity stores nationwide.

Getting Serious about Asset Management By Don Dovgin

Getting Serious about Asset Management By Don Dovgin

One meaningful question is on the mind of clincal people almost constantly; Where is it Now? The pressures of regulatory requirements coupled with never-ending rising costs have created a fury of frustration and chaos in the healthcare marketplace. Learn how technology has changed the landscape, now allowing clinicians to know exactly where all of their equipment is all of the time, while driving out the significant cost oft finding it.

(PRWEB) August 23, 2003

Who borrowed the monitor from the ER, and did not return it? When did you last see that infusion pump? Where did you lose that abandoned wheel chair? But most importantlyÂ…WHERE IS IT NOW? These questions are commonplace in hospitals as they attempt to keep track of their equipment.

The pressures of regulatory requirements coupled with never-ending rising costs have created a fury of frustration and chaos in the healthcare marketplace. This has driven the need for a more effective tracking solution for equipment, inventory, materials and workflow. Asset Management Tracking (AMT) is new technology that provides a competitive advantage for organizations that plan to adopt it.

Conventional hospital management systems have minimal capability in the way of asset tracking. They require costly paper and bar coding for most processes, and the success and accuracy of these systems are limited and questionable. Today, new asset tracking technology has pioneered a seamless management solution that delivers instant visibility in real time.

Using technologies driven by wireless tags, fixed position antennas and web-enabled software, AMT provides visibility with proven efficiency and operating returns. Through perpetual monitoring of the unique wireless tag signal, AMT can pinpoint any itemÂ’s exact location 24 hours a day by using Radio Frequency (RF) devices for tracking.

When properly attached, RF transmitters act like homing devices to track all different types of assets. They can be installed on infusion pumps, ECGÂ’s, ventilators, cardiac monitors, broncoscopes and hundreds of other types of assets. But how does RFID and more specifically asset tracking really benefit the hospital?

A Laurel research study indicates that a typical hospital carries an average of $3 million to $4 million in hard clinical and non-clinical assets. The same survey also states that most hospitals achieve a mere 57% utilization rate of capital assets.

A typical hospital has an inventory of 8 portable clinical devices per bed, at a cost that ranges from $500 for a wheelchair to $15,000 for a respiratory ventilator. Of these, 15% to 20% are missing at any given time. Hard cost for replacing this equipment is $500,000 per year. That, however, is not the end of the story.

Take for example a fully equipped surgical team. Average cost for this clinical labor is $600 per hour. A team minimally spends 10 minutes locating, preparing and assembling their surgical instruments and equipment. For a 12 surgery per day hospital, this wasteful time easily exceeds $400,000. What becomes even more compelling are the lost billing opportunities.

A Recent Washington Medical Study indicates a typical 950 bed hospital employs approximately 300 IV pumps at a cost of $25 each per day. This same hospital keeps 600 pumps on hand at all times to serve their patient population. If all IV pumps can be accounted for at all times, the actual number of pumps needed can be reduced to 330. This represents more than $2 million annual savings for the hospital.

This same study also points out that of the 300 beds using the IV pumps daily, less than 150 patients were actually paying the “per day” cost to the hospital because of poor equipment tracking. AMT could help the typical 900 bed hospital recover almost $8 million of annual lost charges.

Another attractive opportunity to healthcare providers is minimizing liability with regulatory standards with HIPPAA and JCHAO. HIPPAA cites “media controls”, articulating guidelines of equipment management and data capture. Because RFID tags act as transmitters, they can send signals back to a computer database to capture information.

This allows hospitals to better understand when equipment was used and which patients used them to schedule maintenance. It also acts as a quality control system to minimize equipment decontamination violations, by identifying patient-to-patient equipment transfer problems. These accurate real time records easily exceed the regulatory requirements for these two organizations.

By improving the medical equipment management process, AMT allows healthcare facilities to increase utilization rates and reduce equipment inventory. The system identifies underutilized equipment (which can be sold for cash), reduces capital expenditures and decreases a facilityÂ’s reliance on equipment rentals. The resulting savings generate a strong return on investment, and the typical healthcare facility experiences a payback period of less than 12 months.

Clinical people at work admit healthcare organizations are quickly realizing the need for good asset management in their workplace. For hospitals that have not yet moved to this type of system, there is going to be an acceleration of progress, particularly in light of HIPPAA and overall security. In practical terms the bottom line is smooth business continuity in terms of work flow and information.

Most hospitals cannot afford to be down for more than an hour. How long can you afford to be down and how much will it cost just because you canÂ’t find equipment?
