'The Powerful Promoter' Cracks Google’s Elusive Top Ten – Matt Bacak Scales Search Engine Rankings’ Mightiest Summit

'The Powerful Promoter' Cracks Google’s Elusive Top Ten – Matt Bacak Scales Search Engine Rankings’ Mightiest Summit

PowerfulPromoter. com recently landed itself in a coveted position when it hit #7 on Google. Beating out over 66 million adversaries, the Internet promotion site cracked the search engine giant’s elusive top-ten list for the highly competitive keyword phrase “marketing tips.”

Suwanee, GA (PRWEB) November 7, 2005

Matt Bacak, “The Powerful Promoter,” today silenced his naysayers by revealing that his Internet promotion strategies site had catapulted into Google’s top-ten rankings. PowerfulPromoter. com now ranks #7 when a Google keyword search for “marketing tips” is conducted, outperforming in excess of 66 million competitors. Business owners who would like to learn the secrets to Bacak’s search engine optimization success can visit “The Powerful Promoter” online at http://www. PowerfulPromoter. com (http://www. PowerfulPromoter. com)

While a first-page Google ranking for some keywords, like the geological term “zweikanter,” is hardly cause for celebration, when more popular keyword phrases like “marketing tips” land themselves in the top ten, champagne corks begin popping. Compare zweikanter’s 145 returns to marketing tips’ 66,100,000 returns and the reason is obvious.

As an Internet marketing strategies specialist, Bacak decided to put his money where his mouth is. With opponents taunting him that he “didn’t stand a chance” of rising to Google’s top, he set out to prove them wrong. And prove them wrong he did. Currently ranking at a very healthy #7, he’s not laying down the gauntlet just yet. An aim for #1 is next on his agenda.

Why does Bacak’s feat draw so much admiration? Aside from the fact that he chose one of the most competitive keyword phrases to experiment on, Google positioning is vital to Internet success. A recent Search Engine User Attitudes Survey revealed that a staggering 81.7% of search engine users abandon their searches after three pages. Even more eye-opening, 22.6% end their searches after the first few results. Clearly, if a business’s site is not ranking in Google’s top-ten list, it’s losing upwards of one quarter of its potential client base.

If “The Powerful Promoter” can take the highly competitive phrase “marketing tips” straight to Google’s top, he can tackle just about any keyword combination one can devise. Todd Ruehs, one of Bacak’s clients, resoundingly proves this point. “I just hit #1 on Google for Auto Digital Delivery!”

Sterling Testing Systems, Inc. Partners with Knowledge Management Systems to Streamline Hiring Processes

Sterling Testing Systems, Inc. Partners with Knowledge Management Systems to Streamline Hiring Processes

Partnership Will Enable Employment Screening Provider to Use XpressHRTM for Online I-9 and Records Management and Employee On-Boarding.

New York, NY (PRWEB) September 11, 2007

Sterling Testing Systems, a leading provider of employment screening services, has entered a partnership with California-based Knowledge Management Systems (KMS), which streamlines manual and paper-intensive business processes, especially those related to on-boarding new employees such as I-9 processing and verification.

The partnership will provide Sterling clients with access to the full suite of KMS services, including XpressHRTM, a tool that incorporates online forms, I-9 form processing and storage, document management, on-boarding workflow and electronic signature technology to capture, process, manage and integrate personnel data.

Prior to 2005, the U. S. Government required all U. S. companies to collect, manage, and store paper I-9 forms with employee "wet" signatures, which made on-boarding new employees a tedious and cumbersome task. With the changes in law regarding I-9’s, companies are now able to maintain electronic versions of documents, creating a more versatile and consistent system for employee on-boarding. KMS is able to leverage these changes to create a powerful and flexible tool for collecting and maintaining employee records, including I-9’s.

"Our partnership with KMS will provide our clients with access to the industry’s leading online solution for I-9 processing, verification, storage and maintenance," said Paul Mladineo, Vice President of Strategic Development at Sterling Testing Systems. "This will help employers better manage on-boarding new employees in an efficient and cost-effective manner. We also are excited to provide KMS’ customers with a seamless integration to our industry-leading background screening solutions."

"KMS is very excited about our partnership with Sterling Testing Systems," said Yolanda Parker, Principal, KMS. "The XpressHR I-9 module will allow Sterling to extend its screening offering to include the Basic Pilot program, which electronically verifies employment eligibility with the Social Security Administration and Department of Homeland Security. Sterling’s clients will benefit greatly from both the added confidence that their employees are eligible to work in the US as well as a streamlined and highly efficient hiring process."

Miami Dermatologist Marta Rendon, M. D. Provides Skin Care Advice and Product Recommendations Online

Marta Rendon M. D., a Miami area dermatologist, provides patients online access to skin care education and skin product recommendations, including aging skin, dermal fillers, botulinum toxin (Botox), and other dermatology topics.

Berkeley, CA (PRWEB) July 2, 2009

Miami area dermatologist Marta Rendon M. D.
(http://dermatology. fromyourdoctor. com/florida/boca_raton/drrendon/health/biography. do? name=Marta+Rendon+MD&id=135 (http://dermatology. fromyourdoctor. com/florida/boca_raton/drrendon/health/biography. do? name=Marta+Rendon+MD&id=135)) understands that patients seek skin care information from their own dermatologist. Their online searches for health information can be frustrating and they would prefer to get the information a source they trust, the person they already trust with their care.

Dr. Rendon has responded to her patients' needs by creating an Online Patient Education Library that offers them convenient access to a variety of dermatology resources to help them better understand and manage their skin conditions, including acne, aging skin, botulinum toxin (Botox), chemical peels, dermal fillers (Restylane), melasma, and skin cancer.

Based in Boca Raton, Dr. Rendon joins other Miami area dermatologists (http://fromyourdoctor. com/document/miami-dermatologists. html (http://fromyourdoctor. com/document/miami-dermatologists. html)) who use the "From Your Doctor" patient education service from Vivacare Inc. that enables them to create a customized educational resource that reflects their unique approach to care. Dr. Rendon has further enhanced her online resource with products details regarding the cosmeceuticals that she recommends to her patients, including Rendon-Rx® which offers a 3-step skin renewal system.

Marta Rendon, M. D. is a founding member of the American Society of Cosmetic Dermatology and Aesthetic Surgery, Board Member of the Skin of Color Society, and an active member of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery. Because of Dr. Rendon's expertise in cosmetic dermatology, she has been highlighted on the "Beauty Doctors" website (http://beauty-doctors. com (http://beauty-doctors. com)), a resource for health consumers seeking beauty advice from skin care experts.

EX Drinks U. S. Title Sponsor for Tom Jones and 'California Paddle 2007'; Extreme Endurance Athlete's Epic Expedition Campaigns for Plastic-Free Ocean

EX Drinks U. S. Title Sponsor for Tom Jones and 'California Paddle 2007'; Extreme Endurance Athlete's Epic Expedition Campaigns for Plastic-Free Ocean

Extreme endurance athlete and environmentalist Tom Jones of Huntington Beach, CA, enters the second month of a three-month epic expedition -- "California Paddle 2007" -- to draw attention to the problem of plastic pollution in the world's oceans and its dire impact on marine life. He is attempting to be the first person to traverse the 1,250-mile California coastline on a 14-foot paddleboard. EX Drinks U. S. of Orange, CA, distributor of EX energy drinks (associates with the Extreme SportsChannel), is the title sponsor of the educational but harrowing trek.

Orange, CA (PRWEB) September 6, 2007

On the surface, the two men are an unlikely pairing in an epic three-month expedition -- "California Paddle 2007" -- to draw attention to the problem of plastic pollution in the world's oceans and its detrimental effect on marine life. (www. CaliforniaPaddle. com)

Jones, an extreme endurance athlete and environmental activist, set out on a 14-foot paddleboard on Aug. 4 at the state's watery northern tip with the objective of becoming the first person to paddle the entire 1,250-mile California coastline. In recent weeks, hundreds of surfers have welcomed him in the surf and on various beaches in support of his exhausting quest.

Duggins is founder and CEO of EX Drinks U. S., LLC, (EXDUS) of Orange, CA, which began this summer distributing three drinks -- EX Pure Energy™, EX Slim Energy™ and EX Chill™ -- in Hawaii and California. (Photos: exdrinksus. com/media. html) EXDUS is the exclusive U. S. distributor for London, England-based Extreme Drinks LTD, part of Extreme Group and Extreme International, which founded the Extreme Sports Channel.

"Beyond our corporate name and affiliations, we've taken an extreme position for an energy drink firm," Duggins contends. "Contrary to the industry giants, we have no megadoses of taurine, caffeine, processed sugar or vitamins in our beverages. Like the oceans, we want to be all natural and life-enhancing. That's why we signed on as the title sponsor for this event."

"I started the Campaign for a Plastic-Free Ocean with the idea that everyone has a responsibility to the environment and everyone has the power to make positive change in their world," said Jones, a motivational speaker, martial arts expert and international kickboxing champion. "My aim is to combine the resources of governments, corporations and individuals to solve this difficult problem."

Jones, also known as an endurance runner, inventor, humanitarian and child advocate, may have his endurance and inventiveness thoroughly tested. A recent study found there are six times more plastic in the ocean than plankton off the California coast. A United Nations Environmental Report estimated that there are more than 5.76 million tons of plastic in the oceans. That equates to enough to put two thirds of California in a plastic bag.

The event is already supported by such legendary surfers as Laird Hamilton, Rob Machado, Mickey Munoz and Jericho Poppler, some of whom have helped him with training and joined his support team.

Other event partners and sponsors include: Alaskan Brewing Co., Joe Bark Surfboards & Paddleboards, Believe Agency, Bimini Adventures, Katin Surf Shop, K. O-Knockout Fitness Recovery Drink, Ohana Health Company, Patagonia, QuickBlade, S&S Metals & Plastics, Save Our Shores, silverStar Finance, Inc., Teva (shoes), Westfall International, Wild Oats Marketplace and World Black Belt, with more encouraged to sign on.

Jones, advancing southward at 10 to 15 miles a day, is expected to pass Santa Cruz' "Red Triangle," where great white sharks breed and feed on elephant seals and sea lions, at the height of shark season. They probably won't intimidate the man who ran an unprecedented 120 consecutive marathons (26.2 miles each) in 120 days from his Huntington Beach, CA, home to New York City in 2000.

Online Progress... Paddle Teams... Shore Stops

Tom's progress can be viewed online with a site map or satellite image. His daily journal entries read like a pioneer or explorer: 8/28/07 -- Current Position -- "Rough day today. There was very dense fog and eight-ft. swells. The seas were so big, I lost my board and my paddle. I have a back-up board and paddle and thankfully no one was hurt. The ocean can be a very scary place. Tom"

Thousands of volunteer paddlers will have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to participate in the historic event. At the end of each day his location is pegged to a GPS position. He returns to that point each morning to resume the expedition. Upcoming shore stops include:

Sept 6 - Bodega Bay  Oct 1 - Morro Bay  Oct 28 - Laguna Beach
Sept 8 - Stinson Beach  Oct 3 - Pismo Beach  Oct 29 - Dana Point
Sept 9 - San Francisco  Oct 13 - Santa Barbara  Nov 2 - La Jolla
Sept 10 - Pacifica Oct. 20 - Malibu  Nov 1 - Cardiff
Sept 15 - Santa Cruz  Oct. 23 - Hermosa Beach  Nov 3 - San Diego
Sept 20 - Monterey Oct. 25 - Long Beach Nov 4 - Imperial Beach
Sept 21 - Carmel-by-the-Sea  Oct. 27 - Huntington Beach

Communities can participate in "Paddle Out With Tom" events with their own "Paddle Teams." The teams can get friends, family and co-workers to sponsor them, with pledged donations going to help rid the oceans of plastic pollution. "The California State Assembly is also considering five ocean pollution initiatives that deserve citizens' attention and support," Jones stated.

Additionally, through the courtesy of one of its investors, EX Drinks has a highly decorated 23-foot Navion RV paralleling the salty odyssey. EXDUS Partner Kristin Hirtz will welcome Jones ashore at various locations and sample the flavors to visitors.

"Obviously, we want to draw attention to our brand, but also to this individual and his inspiring campaign," Duggins emphasized. "And it is not just because I spent so much of my own youth in the California surf," quipped the San Capistrano native. "This is a great way for educators and parents to get children involved in ecology, geography, the environment and sustainability issues, too."

EXDUS, which began its national marketing strategy in late July, is offering online ordering (www. EXDrinksUS. com). Initially, the drink brands are being sold in convenience, health food and grocery stores in 8.4 fluid ounce cans. The drinks retail from $2 to $2.49 each, with 16-ounce cans to be introduced in October.

Institute for OneWorld Health Moves Closer to Increasing Supply of Accessible, Affordable Ingredient for Treatment for Malaria

Institute for OneWorld Health Moves Closer to Increasing Supply of Accessible, Affordable Ingredient for Treatment for Malaria

San Francisco nonprofit receives additional grant of $10.7 million from Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to prepare for large scale production and commercialization of semi synthetic product to treat malaria.

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) July 10, 2010

The Institute for OneWorld Health (iOWH), a nonprofit organization based in San Francisco, CA, focused on fulfilling the promise of medicines to those who need it the most, announced today that the development activities for semisynthetic artemisinin, a key ingredient in first line malaria treatments, are complete. iOWH also announced that they have received an additional grant of $10.7 million from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to prepare for large-scale production and commercialization.

Semisynthetic artemisinin is a key ingredient in Artemisinin-based Combination Therapies (ACTs). iOWH, in partnership with sanofi-aventis, a leading global pharmaceutical company, will now be moving toward industrialization, with the intent to commercialize ACTs containing the semisynthetic artemisinin in 2012.

“The accomplishments made by this unique public private partnership harness cutting edge science of synthetic biology to bring us one step closer to enhancing the security of artemisinin supply and ensuring affordable treatment for the more than 500 million people infected with malaria each year,” said Dr. Richard Chin, CEO of iOWH.

IOWH, University of California, Berkeley (UCB) and Amyris Inc. have been working together on the Artemisinin Project since late 2004 to develop a new, low cost technology platform to produce artemisinin. This technology, based on synthetic biology, originated from the laboratories of UCB chemical engineer Jay Keasling, and Amyris engineered the industrial synthetic microbe for large scale manufacturing. sanofi-aventis joined the partnership in 2008 and they are responsible for developing the commercial manufacturing process and commercialization of the product.

“The promise of synthetic biology is being realized with the advancement of this product towards commercialization”, said Keasling, the co - inventor of the technology, a professor of chemical engineering, and a co-founder of Amyris.

The semi synthetic version of artemisinin will be a complementary, high quality source of non-seasonal and affordable artemisinin that can alleviate shortages and meet future demand by supplementing the current botanical supplies derived from the sweet wormwood tree that grows in many parts of the world.

“We are confident that the semisynthetic artemisinin production processes will improve the availability of high-quality artemisinin derivatives to drug manufacturers and enable millions of people infected with malaria to gain access to lifesaving treatments”, said Jack Newman, co-inventor, co-founder and Sr. Vice President of Amyris.

Semisynthetic artemisinin research and development, was funded with a $42.6 million grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation beginning in December 2004 to iOWH. A $10.7 million grant for commercialization activities was given in November 2009.

Acoustic Magic’s Voice Tracker™ Array Microphone Certified by GeckoSystems for Voice Control of Mobile Robots

Acoustic Magic’s Voice Tracker™ Array Microphone Certified by GeckoSystems for Voice Control of Mobile Robots

GeckoSystems Inc., a leading developer of mobile robot solutions, has Certified the Acoustic Magic Voice Tracker™ Array Microphone for on board use with its CareBot™ Mobile Service Robots. The Voice Tracker™ enables voice control at ranges of 15+ feet, with a field of view of 180 degrees.

CONYERS, GA (PRWEB) March 9, 2004

GeckoSystems Inc., a leading developer of mobile robot solutions has Certified the Voice Tracker™ Array Microphone for use with its CareBot™ Mobile Service Robots (MSRs). According to Martin Spencer, CEO of GeckoSystems, the combination of the Voice Tracker™ Array’s long effective range and the robustness of the GeckoChat™ verbal interaction package enables not only verbal command and control but also surrogate short-term memory assistance such as a verbal reminder for timely medication regimens and other appointments.

As part of the Certification process, GeckoSystems tested the Voice Tracker™ Array at ranges of up to fifteen feet in environments with low noise and up to six feet in environments with high noise, while the MSR automatically self-navigated. GeckoSystems is completing the final stages for delivering an MSR platform to home healthcare (telemedicine) markets.

“We believe that our Voice Tracker™ intelligent array microphone is useful for robotics command and control because it scans a full 180 degree field of view in front of the robot, and can even pickup speech from behind,” said Bob Feingold, CEO of Acoustic Magic. The Voice Tracker locates a talker and electronically steers a “listening beam,” like an acoustic searchlight, in that direction. This creates spatial filtering; sounds from other parts of the room are not picked up. In addition, constant background noise is removed by digital noise reduction algorithms. This two-stage noise reduction, coupled with increased sensitivity since the Voice Tracker’s eight microphone elements are used continuously and constructively, give the Voice Tracker outstanding range and sound quality. Mr. Spencer stated, “We are very pleased with this contemporary solution to our verbal interaction system’s need for clarity for robust voice recognition.”

LocumTenens. com Expands Service Lines to Include Primary Care

LocumTenens. com Expands Service Lines to Include Primary Care

Physician recruiting firm expands into specialties of internal medicine, family practice, pediatrics and hospitalists.

Alpharetta, GA (Vocus) July 9, 2009

Physician recruiting firm LocumTenens. com has announced its expansion into the high demand specialties of internal medicine, family practice, pediatrics and hospitalists - specialties often referred to collectively as primary care. Traditionally a niche agency specializing in physician and CRNA staffing for anesthesiology, psychiatry, radiology and surgery specialties, LocumTenens. com has added the primary care specialties to better serve client needs.

According to the US Bureau of Labor and Statistics primary care represents over 35% of active physicians, comprising the largest category of physician specialties. Despite the relatively large population of doctors, this is also the area with some of the greatest need for more physicians.

Leaders from the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), the American College of Physicians (ACP) and the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) recently reported to Congress that the number of medical school graduates choosing a primary care specialty is at an all-time low of 17% - at a time when demand for primary care is growing rapidly.

Recognizing the increasing need for supplemental primary care staffing, LocumTenens. com has expanded its service lines to include staffing and recruiting for primary care in order to better meet the needs of hospitals and healthcare facilities nationwide.

"LocumTenens. com's strategy is to build specialty teams that provide unparalleled levels of service in their area for our clients. Due to the success of our existing service lines, our customers have asked us to expand into these new service areas. We will take the same focused approach to the primary care specialties as we have to our existing four specialties," said Shane Jackson, president of LocumTenens. com.

"As our nation is considering reform to our healthcare system, it is clear that the shortage of primary care providers must be addressed. LocumTenens. com works with our customers as strategic partners and our primary care division will allow our customers to utilize locum tenens staffing services as a strategic tool in solving their primary care needs, just as we do in our existing specialties."

Don Robb, a veteran healthcare staffing executive, is heading up the new LocumTenens. com primary care division which will be headquartered in Dallas, Texas. Robb brings over 15 years of experience in healthcare staffing.

"(By adding primary care) LocumTenens. com is not only working to meet the growing needs of the industry, but also deepening the relationship with our existing clients," said Robb.

LocumTenens. com is currently recruiting and staffing for its primary care needs, including internal medicine, family practice, pediatrics and hospitalists. For more information, please call 1.800.562.8663.

Human DNA Holds The Key To Proper Diet

Human DNA Holds The Key To Proper Diet

Health expert Dr. Mark Hyman will appear on the Access to Health Experts interview series to explain his findings that the powerful genetic forces that keep weight on can be re-programmed to automatically burn fat and permanently keep weight off

ASHEVILLE, N. C. (PRWEB) March 18, 2006

Dr. Mark Hyman will appear on April 10, 2006 as a special guest as a guest on Dr. Liz Lipski’s Access to Health Experts interview series to discuss his new book, “UltraMetabolism”. Dr. Hyman will explain his research findings that show how we can ignite the natural fat-burning furnaces that are lying dormant within each of us.

Dr. Hyman claims that our eating habits have changed dramatically over the past 10,000 years, but our genetic blueprint has not; our bodies are simply not designed to process the types of food we eat. It’s like trying to run a gasoline engine on diesel fuel—it just won’t work. One-size-fits-all diets compound this problem by forcing people to unnaturally starve and deprive themselves while unnecessarily counting calories, fat grams and carbs.

During his Access to Health Experts interview Dr. Mark Hyman will provide details of his easy-to-follow, eight-week plan to help you lose weight based on your own unique genetic needs. Since each of our bodies is different and may require more or less of certain nutrients to awaken our fat-burning DNA, Dr. Hyman shows exactly how to customize his program for individual needs. His new book includes menus, recipes and shopping lists, as well as recommendations for supplements, exercise and lifestyle treatments designed to create a healthy metabolism—an UltraMetabolism—along with permanent weight loss and lifelong health.

Dr. Hyman explains, “Our genes have evolved in the context of scarcity. Food was not abundant. Until 10,000 years ago we were all hunters and gatherers, and 10,000 years is a fraction of a moment in genetic time. Then we were well adapted to eating whole wild foods, but now with unlimited food resources and easily consumed low-nutrient, calorie-dense food, our genes promote weight gain and disease.”.

Woman’s and Children’s Hospital Installs Acoustic Magic’s Voice Tracker™ Array Microphones for Handsfree Recording in Pathology Cut-Up Room

Woman’s and Children’s Hospital Installs Acoustic Magic’s Voice Tracker™ Array Microphones for Handsfree Recording in Pathology Cut-Up Room

Women’s and Children’s Hospital needed a recording solution for its pathology cutup room that was hands-free and could pickup the doctors from several feet away. They chose the Acoustic Magic Voice Tracker™ array microphone and Lexacom Talk & Type digital dictation management software.

North Adelaide, Australia (PRWEB) March 10, 2005

Women’s and Children’s Hospital needed a recording solution for its pathology cutup room that was hands-free and could pickup the doctors from several feet away. They chose the Acoustic Magic Voice Tracker™ array microphone and Lexacom Talk & Type digital dictation management software. The Voice Tracker™'s long-range allowed the doctor to be recorded as he moved around the table. Lexacom’s foot pedal control completed the hands-free operation. The recording computers were no longer required to be near the pathologists.

Dr. Tony Bourne of Woman’s and Children’s Hospital noted “this solution was so effective that we implemented it in the mortuary as well, with equally good results. In the Mortuary, the microphone is attached to the ceiling, several feet above the bench. Both microphones are separated by some metres from the computers, which are linked through the hospital network to the secretarial workstations. The system has worked very well for us and our secretarial staff indicate that the quality of the dictation is much improved over our old tape based system.”

Karl Francois, National Solutions Manager for Voice Perfect Systems, who worked with Women’s and Children’s Hospital on this application, noted "when Voice Perfect first looked at the Voice Tracker™, it was originally intended to be used with Dragon NaturallySpeaking™ speech recognition software as a desktop microphone option. Since then we've been able to apply it to video conferencing, as well as meetings, interviews and clean room recording. It certainly has proved how incredibly versatile this product can be in any application requiring a powerful, long-range microphone.“

Bob Feingold, CEO of Acoustic Magic, notes that “The Voice Tracker™ is unique in its capability of scanning a full 180° and of picking up talkers at ranges of 25 feet or more.”

The Voice Tracker™ locates a talker and electronically steers a “listening beam,” like an acoustic searchlight, in that direction. This creates spatial filtering; sounds and reverberation from other parts of the room are not picked up. In addition, digital noise reduction processing removes background noise. This two-stage noise reduction, coupled with the sensitivity of eight microphone elements, gives the Voice Tracker™ outstanding range and sound quality.

About Voice Perfect Systems

Voice Perfect Systems is a 100% Australian owned company, formed in early 1994 to address the growing interest for large vocabulary speech dictation for computer users. Recognizing the potential for speech recognition systems, Voice Perfect became one of the pioneering distributors of speech activated dictation software. The Baby Bedtime Battle Between Parents and Grandparents

The Baby Bedtime Battle Between Parents and Grandparents

Parents and grandparents both agree that Sudden Infant Death Syndrome is a top concern when raising babies, but they often don't see eye to eye on what constitutes safe sleep practices. To reduce the risk of SIDS, the American Academy of Pediatrics suggests that parents, grandparents and other caregivers replace loose blankets with a wearable blanket, such as the HALO® SleepSack® wearable blanket.

Minneapolis, MI (Vocus) October 12, 2010

Parents and grandparents rarely disagree about how cute their (grand)children are, but when it comes to setting up safe sleep environments for babies, the two generations don’t always see eye to eye, according to a study conducted by Ipsos Public Affairs on behalf of HALO Innovations in time for SIDS Awareness Month.

The survey found that grandparents are more likely than parents to place babies on their sides or stomachs to sleep, and more likely to place unnecessary and potentially dangerous objects in babies’ cribs, increasing their risk for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and accidental suffocation. The majority of both parents and grandparents agree that SIDS is their top concern in raising their children. However, considering a 2005 U. S. Census Bureau report indicating that 30 percent of children younger than 5 are being cared for by grandparents, the need to educate the older generation on current safe-sleep practices, such as placing babies on their backs to sleep and using wearable blankets, has never been more important.

“Forty percent of the parents with a child age 2 or younger we surveyed expressed concern that their parents or in-laws may not always follow their instructions about how to safely put their baby down to sleep – and a quarter have had a disagreement about safe-sleep practices,” says Bill Schmid, the founder of HALO Innovations. “It’s imperative that parents take the time to educate grandparents, as well as other caregivers, on the best ways to prepare a baby for sleep without increasing their risk for SIDS or accidental suffocation. And it’s equally important that grandparents listen and be open to doing things differently from when they were new parents.”

SIDS and accidental suffocation are the leading causes of death for babies younger than 1 year old, claiming the lives of nearly 5,000 babies every year. To reduce the risk of SIDS, the American Academy of Pediatrics suggests that parents, grandparents and other caregivers replace loose blankets with a wearable blanket, such as the HALO® SleepSack® wearable blanket, which is now available nationwide at Target, Babies ‘R Us stores and other retailers. Caregivers should also always place babies on their backs to sleep; remove all pillows, loose blankets, stuffed animals and bumper pads from the crib; and refrain from smoking around babies or bringing babies into their own beds.

“I know that keeping babies safe is parents’ No. 1 priority, and the best way to help babies sleep safely is by placing their babies on their backs in a bare crib, wearing a wearable blanket like the HALO SleepSack,” says Dr. Tanya Remer Altmann, a pediatrician, author and member of HALO’s medical advisory board.

HALO’s survey of more than 1,000 parents and grandparents also revealed the following:
Fifty-eight percent of grandparents agreed that “babies are babies; what worked years ago when my children were babies is still fine today.” Conversely, 60 percent of parents disagreed with the sentiment that what worked years ago when they were babies is still fine today.  Parents are more likely to say that it’s best to place a baby on his or her back to sleep than grandparents (77 percent vs. 59 percent). Grandparents are more likely than parents to think a baby is safest sleeping on his or her side (21 percent vs. 12 percent) or stomach (16 percent vs. 8 percent).  More than four in 10 parents and grandparents say that pacifiers, which SIDS experts recommend that babies use while sleeping, are safe to leave in a baby’s crib. However, similar proportions of both generations also agree that bumper pads, which medical experts deem to be a hazard, are safe.  Grandparents are also more likely to believe it is safe to have loose blankets (49 percent vs. 31 percent of parents) and a baby monitor (23 percent vs. 12 percent) in the crib with the baby.  Eighty-two percent of parents say they swaddle their baby for sleep compared to less than half of grandparents who swaddle their grandchildren (46 percent).

For tips on how to prepare your child or grandchild for a safer sleep and reduce the risk of SIDS and accidental suffocation, as well as advice from HALO medical experts on other infant-health concerns, visit http://www. halosleepsafe. com.

About HALO Innovations
HALO Innovations is a leading proponent of safe sleep for babies. Based in Minneapolis, HALO has a singular mission: to help babies sleep safely. Founded in 1994 by William Schmid, who began researching sleeping environments after he lost an infant daughter to SIDS three years earlier, HALO is dedicated to developing products that set new standards for the safety and improved health of sleeping infants and bringing peace of mind to one’s home.

HALO products are used in more than 450 hospitals nationwide in well-baby care, NICUs and in take-home programs to help new parents practice safe sleep for baby at home. The HALO SleepSack wearable blanket is the only product to carry the seals of leading SIDS organizations in the U. S. and Canada.

About the Survey
The online survey was conducted August 10-16, 2010 by Ipsos Public Affairs among:
519 adults age 18 and older with at least one child age 2 and younger  533 adults in their 50s and 60s with at least one grandchild Quota sampling and weighting were employed to balance demographics and ensure that the sample's composition reflects that of the actual U. S. adult population according to Census data and to provide results that are intended to approximate a probability sample.

Relying on Luck to Protect Construction Workers? Plain Dumb, Have a Site Safety Plan, Says New York Construction Accident Lawyer

Relying on Luck to Protect Construction Workers? Plain Dumb, Have a Site Safety Plan, Says New York Construction Accident Lawyer

In wake of recent construction accidents, New York construction accident lawyer David Perecman fiercely defends construction workers' right to a safe workplace.

New York, NY (PRWEB) June 12, 2009

"Four construction accidents in a week and four very lucky workers", says New York construction accident lawyer (http://www. perecman. com/construction-accident-site-safety-plan. htm) David Perecman. "It shouldn't be about luck."

The luck worked in favor of the construction management companies too. If it weren't for luck, these companies would now be defending themselves against huge lawsuits. "Each fall could have been avoided with a construction site safety plan (http://www. perecman. com/construction-accident-site-safety-plan. htm)," explains Perecman, founder of a law practice in Manhattan. "A simple fence, window guard or safety line would have prevented or drastically reduced the danger of each fall."

The most recent construction accident occurred on Wednesday, May 21, 2009 when construction worker Ronald McGovern fell three stories on a downtown Brooklyn construction site. Only a dumpster filled with construction debris saved him from serious injury. Mr. McGovern left the hospital and went home the same day of the accident, so lucky, he didn't even break a bone.

Popular construction accident lawyers like Perecman who have handled many construction accident cases, rarely see workers walk away from construction site falls like this one without some serious injuries.

"We can only be happy that Mr. McGovern got to spend his Memorial Day relaxing with his family instead of suffering in a hospital. It is a far better fate than many others involved in construction accidents face," adds Perecman, a leading New York construction accident lawyer who has seen many far less happy outcomes of falls like this.

According to The United States Department of Labor, Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), construction accident statistics (http://www. perecman. com/construction-accident-site-safety-plan. htm) show that the most common cause of construction worker fatalities is falling. Falls, in fact, account for one out of every three construction worker deaths.

In another lucky incident earlier in the week, a welder working on the 16th floor of a different construction site slid four stories down a shaft before his fall was broken by a tangle of ductwork.

Work on each site was stopped after the construction accidents, allowing for investigations of safety violations and a construction site safety plan.

"I've spoken with other construction accident lawyers and we agree, it is truly remarkable and rare that we have seen such a streak of lucky falls over the last week," said Perecman.

About David Perecman and The Perecman Firm, PLLC:
For the past 25 years, the New York construction accident lawyers (http://www. perecman. com/construction-accident-site-safety-plan. htm), personal injury, auto accident and medical malpractice lawyers at The Perecman Firm, PLLC have championed all types of cases for construction accidents. David Perecman, founder of the Firm, is the current Secretary of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association (NYSTLA) and a chair of its Labor Law Committee. Mr. Perecman's achievements have brought him recognition as an Honoree in the National Law Journal's Hall of Fame, in New York Magazine's "The BestLawyers in America" and The New York Times Magazine "New York Super Lawyers, Metro Edition".

The Firm has recovered millions of dollars for its clients. Among the more recent victories, Mr. Perecman won a $15 million verdict* for a construction accident, a $5.35 million dollar verdict** for an automobile accident, and a $40 million dollar structured settlement for medical malpractice.

*later settled while on appeal for $7.940 million
**later settled for $3.5 million

S. service men and women who have died in the Iraq war. In March, “Forgotten Faces” was also “recommended reading” for “most of us who claim U. S. citizenship” by About. com.

News & World Report” regarding the nationally acclaimed exhibit “Faces of the Fallen” which movingly displayed the portraits of U. S. service men and women who have lost their lives in the Iraq war. Ron Horne, author of “Forgotten Faces” was quoted clarifying the poignant characteristics of memorial portraiture that “foster a unique human exchange” and allow “the observer to connect in a very genuine way” to the person in the portrait.

“U. S. News & World Report” provides in-depth news coverage rich in editorial content, graphics and photos to 11.7 million readers weekly. It celebrates its 70th anniversary in 2003. The weekly national newsmagazine is devoted to investigative journalism and to reporting and analyzing national and international affairs, politics, business, health, science, technology and social trends. Through its annual rankings of “America's Best Colleges, Best Graduate Schools and America's Best Hospitals,” and its News You Can Use® brand, “U. S. News” has earned a reputation as the leading provider of service news and information that improves the quality of life of its readers. Available online at www. usnews. com, “U. S. News” was recently named the most credible newsweekly by the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press.

Also in March, “Forgotten Faces – A Window Into Our Immigrant Past” was favorably reviewed by Art - History Guide Shelley Esaak who said “The first reference of its kind, “Forgotten Faces” is recommended reading …for those who take an interest in threatened and/or vanishing art mediums and Americans with immigrant roots. The latter group includes most of us who claim United States citizenship. Happily, this book is but the first volume of a planned series.” She added “To describe the portraits as "haunting" would be taking the easy adjective out. The markers that depict young children - and there are many of these - are especially forcible visions. Horne does an admirable job of explaining how, exactly, the technology can produce an object capable of withstanding the elements for many decades.”

The complete review can be accessed online at - http://arthistory. about. com/od/book_reviews/fr/forgotten_faces. htm (http://arthistory. about. com/od/book_reviews/fr/forgotten_faces. htm)
“Forgotten Faces” is a completely original photo-history of American immigrants coming to this country from 28 different nations in the early 20th century. Emphasizing memorial portraits on tombstones as objects of fine art and national heirlooms overlooked by historians and artists alike, the book presents the first complete collection of the art form ever published and provides a unique visual panorama of American immigration in the first decades of the 1900’s. It is available on www. Amazon. com, www. BarnesandNoble. com and many other online outlets and bookstore. It is distributed by Baker & Taylor, Quality Books, Inc., Emery-Pratt and Midwest Library Service.

New York, NY (PRWEB) July 26, 2005

The Fashion Journal, a quarterly fashion publication that is devoted entirely to "new" fashion trends and to the growing community of fashion designers is set to launch its premier issue in Winter 2005.

The Fashion JournalÂ’s goal is to give up-and coming fashion designers a chance to present their work to the public within the pages of our publication. Through stories, pictures and event listings, we are a steppingstone for those who need exposure to break into the fashion industry. We are the only publication out there who feeds the need for "new" fashion exposure in this type of market.

We showcase fashion designers, self-taught and theoretical, as well as local vendors, boutiques, hairstylists, artists and anyone else in the creative industry that need and deserve recognition.

We introduce those who design low cost T-shirts to those who design couture wedding dresses. We will provide readers with an information guide to local fashion shows, sample sales and upcoming events involving the designers featured.

TFJ strives to keep our stories simple and up-to-date. We give you the inside fashion stories, not from the runway, but from our own backyard - the schools, shops, clubs, and most importantly, the people of NYC.

In the end, what The Fashion Journal hopes to do is to focus mainly on the "new" fashion designers, with some variation into the health and beauty areas, with added support from fashion affiliates/designers.

Our target audience is men and women ages 18-35 years old in the professional world who would be interested in purchasing items from the new designers we feature.

For additional information along with a sample media kit, please visit www. thefashionjournal. com.

ABOUT TFJ:

Launched in May 2005 by Jennifer Gesimondo and Petra Vincent, a team of two creative individuals known for their creative writing and Multimedia Design, The Fashion Journal features "brand-new" designers, sample sales and events that bridge the gap between couture and urban trends. Nydia M. Velázquez, CHCI Chair.

“Our theme also embodies the Latino community’s embrace of the American Dream and its commitment to the success of this great nation. We expect a huge turnout this year to hear from members of Congress, Cabinet secretaries, and other national leaders on how the Latino community will play an integral role in leading this nation forward in the 21st century.”

Safety Alert for Buyers of Used Commercial Zero Turn Mowers

Safety Alert for Buyers of Used Commercial Zero Turn Mowers

Look Up To Make Sure There's a Rollover Bar Above Your Head

Bloomington, MN (Vocus) March 26, 2009

The Toro Company is encouraging buyers of previously owned commercial zero-radius-turn (ZRT) mowers to check that each unit is properly equipped with an overhead rollover protection system (ROPS). Similar to a roll bar on a race car, an overhead ROPS and the use of an accompanying seatbelt can prevent an operator from being thrown from a machine or pinned under the mower should it overturn.

The unlimited maneuverability of ZRTs simplifies trimming neatly around flower beds, mailboxes or other obstacles. They can zip across the yard at a speed of up to 12 mph on straight-aways and are safe when operated properly. However, utilizing any commercial-sized mower, which typically is larger and heavier than consumer models, requires a few precautions to ensure the safety of the operator, including the use of an overhead ROPS. Without ROPS, the operator compartment -- and more importantly, the operator -- remains unprotected from the weight of the machine, which can surpass 1,700 pounds on some commercial models.

"When a homeowner buys any brand of a used commercial ZRT mower without rollover protection, the first thing they should do is get it scheduled into a dealer to get a ROPS installed," reveals Sam Steel, a Penn State University safety expert and former National Safety Council official.

Steel says some manufacturers offer a free ROPS and seatbelt installation on older models, and homeowners who purchase used machines should be sure to participate in these retrofit programs.

Daniel Lent, who recently purchased a used commercial zero-turn mower formerly owned by a landscape company is glad he made the move to get a ROPS installed at his Toro dealer, Greenberg Implement in Nowthen, Minn. "In the name of safety -- that's why I did it," said Lent.

"While commercial landscape maintenance employees are trained to safely handle these quick, powerful machines, homeowners need to be educated on their safe operation, as well," says Steel, senior research associate, Agricultural Safety and Health, Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering at Penn State.

Steel says homeowners need to realize that using the mower two to three hours per week is much different from professionals who are operating them five to seven hours per day.

"For a homeowner, there's a learning curve each time the unit is used," Steel explains, pointing out that a ROPS used with a seat belt is an effective measure of protection a homeowner needs on hills or around obstacles.

"Even when you have a ROPS, a seat belt is a must. Pick up debris, hoses or toys before you start the mower, then stay on the unit and buckle up," says Steel. "And buckle up every single time," he says, "to prevent serious injuries or death in the event of equipment rollovers."

While ROPS are now standard equipment on all Toro and many other brands of commercial mowers, some older models are resold without the device. That's where manufacturer retrofit programs come in. For example, through their dealers, both Toro and Exmark offer free ROPS installation on commercial Z mowers missing the manufacturer-installed ROPS.

"Ensuring our customers' safety is our primary concern," explains Randy Harris, senior marketing manager for Toro's Landscape Contractor Equipment. "All Toro products undergo strict safety, performance and durability testing before they enter the market. When one of our Z Master® mowers is operated according to the safety instructions included in the operating manual and on the machine, it is safe for its intended purpose. If misused, however, and operated in conditions outside the safe operating zone, such as on too-steep slopes or near drop offs, there is an added risk of loss of control and/or rollover, which could result in injury or death."

Harris says people who purchased an older model Toro® Z Master® 100 or 200 Series commercial mower can get a ROPS installed at their local Toro dealer free of charge.

"When we sell someone a used commercial ZRT, we let them know about the option of a new ROPS free of charge from Toro or Exmark," explains Jim Greenberg, finance manager at Greenberg Implement. For those who are reluctant to have a ROPS installed because they may perceive it as inconvenient, Greenberg says, "If the homeowner has a lot of hills, I'm adamant about recommending the ROPS."

And Penn State's Steel urges homeowners not to sacrifice safety for convenience. "Even an experienced, professional operator of ZRTs should have a ROPS -- but a homeowner can get themselves into big trouble without one," he said.

As a reminder to other ZRT owners, Lent says, "These are big, fast, beefy machines. I feel safer with the ROPS installed."

Safety Basics for Your Z Mower
Here are a few tips for safe operation of a ZRT mower:
1. Get a ROPS installed if you don't already have one.
2. Be careful on hills. Hilly terrain can cause you to lose traction. Don't tackle slopes greater than 15 degrees and keep movements deliberate and steady.
3. Keep your speed in check. You need to feel in control of the machine at all times.
4. Stay away from retaining walls, drop-offs and ponds. These are potentially unstable places that should be maintained with a hand trimmer or walk power mower.
5. Do not mow slopes when the grass is wet. Slippery conditions reduce traction and could cause sliding and loss of control.
6. Never allow children on or around the unit.
7. If your model came with a safety video, make sure to watch it, and read and follow the operator's manual.

Toro ZRT owners can find a local dealer to install the ROPS system at www. toro. com/dealer (http://www. toro. com/dealer). Exmark owners can visit www. exmark. com.
