HR. BLR. com Poll Suggests Job Hunters Should Lose Weight before Starting Their Job Search

HR. BLR. com Poll Suggests Job Hunters Should Lose Weight before Starting Their Job Search

A recent online survey at the website for human resource professionals, HR. BLR. com, suggests losing a few pounds could be the best tactic an overweight person can use to increase the success of their job search.

Old Saybrook, CT (PRWEB) June 2, 2005

Dropping a few pounds might be the best thing an overweight person can do to help improve their chances of landing a good job. At least thatÂ’s what the results of an online poll at HR. BLR. com, a website for human resource professionals, suggest.

The poll asked HR managers, “Has someone's weight ever influenced your decision on whether to hire him or her?” The responses broke down this way:

Yes – 25%

Maybe unconsciously – 35%

No – 40%

The poll, conducted May 12-19, drew 552 participants.

“While federal law bars discrimination on the basis of sex, religion, age, race, or national origin, it does not expressly prohibit discrimination on the basis of physical appearance, such as weight,” observed Susan Prince, managing editor at Business & Legal Reports, which operates HR. BLR. com. “Some workers and applicants who believe they’ve been unjustly treated for being overweight have sought protection under the federal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), but the courts have generally ruled that obesity does not meet the ADA’s definition of a disability.”

Nevertheless, Prince added, at least one state and a couple of municipalities have their own laws prohibiting weight discrimination or discrimination on the basis of appearance, so employers need to be cognizant of them.

Prince also speculated that employers might be avoiding overweight applicants because of obesityÂ’s negative impact on health insurance costs. She stressed, however, that those who participated in this poll werenÂ’t asked about that.

HR. BLR. com, “State HR Answers and Tools Online,” provides subscribers with plain-English analysis of the workplace laws in all 50 states. And for HR professionals who need to know what the ADA does cover, BLR offers a free download, “Managing Disabilities in the Workplace”: http://www. blr. com/82008400/PRS17 (http://www. blr. com/82008400/PRS17)

Pinnacle Asset Management Announces Significant Investments in Medical Device Industry

Pinnacle Asset Management Announces Significant Investments in Medical Device Industry

Three Indiana Based Medical Device Companies Benefit from Investments from Bloomington Indiana Based Firm

Bloomington, IN (PRWEB) July 14, 2005

Pinnacle Asset Management announced that it has made significant investments in three promising young Indiana based companies within the medical device industry; Renascence Medical, Symbios Medical, and Morris Innovative Research (MIR). The announcement was made by Robert McCormack, President and COO of Pinnacle Asset Management.

In making the announcement Mr. McCormack stated, “Our objective at Pinnacle Asset Management is to provide capital, management expertise and resources to help businesses meet their full potential. We are pleased to extend this investment strategy into the medical device industry, and look forward to lending our support and expertise to Symbios Medical, Renascence Medical, and MIR. As a result of our recent investments, these three companies will soon be producing products that enable a variety of medical procedures to be done more safely, efficiently, and cost effectively.”

Peter Dvorak, Pinnacle’s Founder and Chairman, added, “Pinnacle Asset Management has an investment philosophy that encompasses more than providing capital. We believe that a key component of our portfolio's success is the leverage we can provide through hands-on assistance and our network of external resources and service providers. Our entrepreneurial experience allows us to understand the challenges and opportunities associated with growing a business, and provides our portfolio companies with strong resources to draw upon as needed.“

According to Steve Bryant, Director of the Bloomington Life Sciences Partnership – a public/private partnership focusing of growing life sciences jobs in Bloomington, “Pinnacle’s investment in these three Indiana based medical device companies is significant on many levels. Today, one of the biggest economic drivers in every state is life sciences and the biggest challenge is to find local investors that understand the space and its lengthy product development cycles. Pinnacle not only understands the space but also possesses the vision to realize its significance and tremendous future.”

Linda Williamson, Director of the Bloomington Economic Development Corporation, added, “Investments in local businesses are particularly important to the ongoing growth and stability of a community. When investors like Pinnacle invest within their own communities it not only helps to keep the business firmly rooted in the community but it also provides a tier of resources that ultimately attracts and creates other business and job opportunities.”

Bloomington, Indiana based Renascence Medical was formed two years ago with the mission of developing new and innovative medical products for the pre-hospital market. Over the past year, they have been developing a new, gravity-driven I. V. device that allows the healthcare worker to choose between two different drop sizes (10 & 60 drps/ml) at any time during I. V. therapy. It is estimated that total I. V. usage in the U. S. alone is 350,000,000 units per year.

In regard to Pinnacle’s investment in his company, Renascence Chief Executive Officer Dan Dyar said, “The influx of capital from Pinnacle will be used to purchase the tooling and production equipment necessary to manufacture our product and will be instrumental in helping us get our new products to market. Pinnacle is a perfect partner as they are comprised of a group of top notch professionals, are easy to work with, and truly have a great understanding of what it takes to be successful in business.”

Indianapolis, Indiana based Symbios Medical Products, LLC is a medical device company that was created to design, manufacture, market and sell disposable pain management systems - more commonly known as disposable pain pumps - that deliver analgesic pain medication to post-surgical sites. The market for disposable pain pumps is over $200 million and has grown at an annual rate of 35% over the last four years. The market is expected to grow to over $500 million within 5 years.

Symbios Chief Executive Officer Jeff Alholm added, “Teaming with Pinnacle is a dream match for us, they have given us the resources needed to produce a product that will help countless people every year.”

Bloomington, Indiana based Morris Innovative Research (MIR) is a medical device company that was founded in 2002. The companyÂ’s main focus has been the development of an arterial closure device for patients who undergo procedures that treat coronary or vascular disease. This unique closure device integrates a bio-tissue with an introducer sheath, one of the standard tools used in catheter labs. The current worldwide market for femoral closure devices is estimated to be $350 million per year, and growing rapidly.

CEO of MIR Ed Morris stated, “MIR is proud to be a part of the Pinnacle portfolio and we look forward to benefiting from their support and expertise. For MIR, working with Pinnacle is ideal, they understand our mission and are fully supportive of our goals and objectives.”

Joe Montana Visits Miami to Raise Awareness of High Blood Pressure (hypertension) and its Impact on Health

Joe Montana Visits Miami to Raise Awareness of High Blood Pressure (hypertension) and its Impact on Health

Super Bowl XLI excitement is in the air and football legend Joe Montana is once again part of the action. This time, though, the action is off the field and his teammate is Harvard-trained cardiologist James Rippe, MD. "Joe Cool" is talking about something close to his heart - high blood pressure, or hypertension.

East Hanover, NJ, (PRWEB) February 4, 2007

Super Bowl XLI excitement is in the air and football legend Joe Montana is once again part of the action. This time, though, the action is off the field and his teammate is Harvard-trained cardiologist James Rippe, MD. "Joe Cool" is talking about something close to his heart - high blood pressure, or hypertension.

Montana and Dr. Rippe have been traveling the country for over four years as part of a high blood pressure education program BP Success Zone (http://www. getbpdown. com), sponsored by Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation (NYSE: NVS). The initiative encourages patients to work with a healthcare professional to help set, achieve and maintain a healthier blood pressure goal. Most recently, Montana and Dr. Rippe teamed up with Joe's wife Jennifer and a nutritionist and fitness expert to offer a free book, Joe Montana's Family Playbook for Managing High Blood Pressure, designed to help people manage their high blood pressure and achieve a healthier lifestyle.

"Dr. Rippe and I are thrilled to be part of this year's Super Bowl festivities in an effort to increase awareness of the consequences of uncontrolled high blood pressure," said Montana. "I want people to know that if a four-time Super Bowl champion can have high blood pressure, anyone can. But they should also know that if I can manage high blood pressure and keep it below 120/80 mm Hg, so can they." (Individual results may vary.)

High blood pressure: Joe Montana's story

Despite feeling fit and healthy, Montana was diagnosed with high blood pressure in 2002. Through his experience, he learned that managing high blood pressure is not that hard once you're on the right treatment program, but the consequences of not taking action are irreversible. Through lifestyle changes and the right medication, Montana has worked to get his blood pressure controlled and now wants to help others achieve success. With help from Dr. Rippe, Montana is focused on educating the millions of people out there who don't realize they have high blood pressure or don't think they need to do anything about it.

For more information about high blood pressure and other risk factors that may impact overall cardiovascular health, or to order a FREE copy of Joe Montana's Family Playbook for Managing High Blood Pressure, visit www. GETBPDOWN. com (http://www. GETBPDOWN. com) or call 1-877-GET-BP-DOWN (1-877-438-2736).

About high blood pressure

High blood pressure, also known as hypertension, is diagnosed when blood pressure is consistently 140/90 mm Hg or higher in most people. At this level, the pressure inside the blood vessels is too strong and may be causing damage to arteries throughout the body - and significantly increases the risk of damage to the heart, brain and kidneys. In fact, high blood pressure is so damaging that people who have a blood pressure over 160/90 mm Hg are four times more likely to suffer a stroke compared to those without the condition.

About Novartis

Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation researches, develops, manufacturers and markets leading innovative prescription drugs used to treat a number of diseases and conditions, including central nervous system disorders, organ transplantation, cardiovascular diseases, dermatological diseases, respiratory disorders, cancer and arthritis. The company's mission is to improve people's lives by pioneering novel healthcare solutions.

About BP Success Zone

The BP Success Zone (http://www. GETBPDOWN. com) e program, sponsored by Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation, encourages patients with high blood pressure to work with their healthcare professionals to set a blood pressure goal, define a treatment plan and work together to reach and maintain that blood pressure goal. If your blood pressure is too high, it's important to get into the BP Success Zone (less than 140/90 mm Hg to 120/80 mm Hg and below). The medications associated with this program are approved to treat high blood pressure, and are not approved to prevent heart attack, stroke or kidney disease resulting from high blood pressure.

16 Cellulite Myths Exposed, Part I: "Cellulite is just fat," Lymphatic Drainage, Body Brushing, Men and Cellulite

16 Cellulite Myths Exposed, Part I: "Cellulite is just fat," Lymphatic Drainage, Body Brushing, Men and Cellulite

Cellulite expert Georgios Tzenichristos presents five common cellulite myths and attempts to set the record straight about the nature of cellulite, and also about lymphatic massage, body brushing, cellulite massage and cellulite creams as methods of cellulite reduction.

(Vocus/PRWEB) January 19, 2011

There are several different factors that conspire to cause the “orange peel skin” look found in 90% women after the age of 30, and because of this multiplicity of causative factors cellulite is very difficult to treat. The countless myths and misconceptions that make the situation worse as they mislead and confuse the public, making cellulite even more difficult to treat.

In this article, cellulite expert Georgios Tzenichristos presents four common cellulite myths and attempts to set the record straight Another 12 myths will be exposed in the second, third and fourth part of this series.

Cellulite Myth #1: Cellulite does not exist ("cellulite is just fat, all you need to do is lose weight")
Many people dismiss cellulite as common fat, same as any other type of fat in the body. However, cellulite is quiet different to normal fat. The normal fat found in overweight men and women is found underneath the skin and does not appear as lumps and bumps in a mattress-like pocket arrangement. In contrast, cellulite is compartmentalised fat found inside the skin, not underneath it, with these fat compartments protruding over the surface of the skin, quite unlike normal fat.

Cellulite is an aesthetic syndrome with multiple causes that comprises superficial fat accumulation, connective tissue deformity, scar tissue, water retention, inflammation and toxin accumulation, all within the structure of the skin of the female thighs and buttocks (and sometimes stomach, arms and calves too). It does exist and is quite different from normal fat, as MRI and ultrasound scans can attest.

Losing weight will indeed reduce cellulite as it does reduce normal fat. However, due to the connective tissue deformity that accompanies cellulite and the propensity of the cellulite fat cells to resist fat loss during weight loss, diet and exercise are not enough for cellulite reduction. In most cases, a vigorous cellulite treatment and a concentrated, comprehensive anti-cellulite cream are needed for best results, in conjunction with healthy nutrition and exercise.

Cellulite Myth #2: Cellulite is just excess water and can be “removed” by manual lymphatic drainage massage, or by skin brushing
As mentioned above, cellulite is more than just fat, or water retention, or connective tissue deformity, or toxin accumulation, or inflammation. It is all the above. Therefore, simplistic approaches such as manual lymphatic drainage massage (MLD massage) can only confer a very temporary (1-2 days), very mild relief - not lasting results.

The old fashioned lymph massage developed in the 1930s does not do anything to treat the causes of water retention, neither it does anything to reduce local fat accumulation, break down scar tissue, iron out connective tissue discrepancies and reduce inflammation. All that light lymphatic massage does is drain excess water and toxins from the cellulite tissues in a very temporary and very limited manner. Because of all these limitations, manual lymphatic massage cannot be characterised as an effective or efficient means of cellulite reduction.

Cellulite Myth #3: Body brushing (skin brushing) "fights" cellulite
The notion that cellulite is just poor lymph drainage/toxin accumulation led some people to believe that skin brushing can effectively “remove” cellulite. This could not be further from the truth. Skin/body brushing is not even an effective lymphatic drainage method. “All that body brushing does is exfoliate the skin, and that's all”, cellulite guru Georgios Tzenichristos advises. “You can not apply a proper, strong, cellulite-specific massage by utilising a body brush without making the skin bleed. This is because skin brushing works by literally scraping off the epidermis, i. e. the top layer of the skin, while for cellulite reduction you need to manipulate the subdermis, i. e. the bottom layer of the skin”, Georgios adds. Clearly body brushing is a waste of time, when it comes to cellulite reduction, with the only useful application of the technique being that of exfoliating the skin before applying a good anti-cellulite cream.

Cellulite Myth #4: Men don’t get cellulite
“Who said that men don’t get cellulite? Of course they do! Everybody can get cellulite, provided their body stays inactive enough and it is loaded with enough excess estrogen, fat and sugar”, claims Georgios who has researched cellulite physiology for over a decade, adding that “The pre-cellulite fat pocket infrastructure exists in all human beings’ thighs and hips. All it takes is estrogen and excess calories to inflate and proliferate those fat cells, and some sedentary lifestyle to stimulate skin looseness and water retention - and hey presto, cellulite is born”!

Georgios is passionate when he talks about the intricacies of cellulite physiology and is keen to explain that “Some old men whose estrogen levels and food/beer intake are high and their activity levels are low, do develop cellulite. Furthermore, male to female transexuals also develop cellulite, when they consume excess calories and stay inactive, in much the same way women develop cellulite for exactly the same reasons”.

Cellulite is just the unfortunate outcome of twisting nature’s best intentions with our unnatural, unhealthy lifestyle. Nature originally intended the mattress-like fat structure in the female thighs and hips to be a beautifying feature for women, and that strategy worked well for hundreds of thousands of years. Unfortunately, things like cupcakes, cocktails, smoking and the "pill" can expand a beautiful structure out of all proportion, creating what women (and some men) call “cellulite”...

Georgios has been treating, researching and writing about cellulite for the last 10 years. At the LipoTherapeia clinic Georgios provides his customers with intensive cellulite-specific massage, pressotherapy, radiofrequency, ultrasound cavitation and concentrated anti-cellulite creams.

Kobe City Goes to Bat for Free Choice Foundation - Demands Hatoyama Government Clarify New Immigration Guideline

Kobe City Goes to Bat for Free Choice Foundation - Demands Hatoyama Government Clarify New Immigration Guideline

Kobe City Assembly drafts opinion to Japanese Prime Minister and other high-ranking government officials about pending visa renewal guideline changes concerning foreigners and social health insurance; seeks clarity on implementation of rules.

Kobe (PRWEB) October 20, 2009

The City Assembly of Kobe, Japan has sent an official communiqué to the National Government seeking clarification about the country's new Immigration guidelines. The guidelines, set to go into effect in April 2010, mandate that all foreign residents who must be enrolled in Japan's social health insurance program show proof of such enrollment as a prerequisite for approval of their visa renewal applications.

The new legislation has sparked no small stir among non-Japanese living in Japan, and debate over the issue continues to grow daily. It has even spawned the formation of the Free Choice Foundation, a grassroots movement whose aim is to lobby the Japanese government for foreigners' right to choose the type of health care they participate in - whether that be a public or private plan.

Led by Chairman Kenji Yoshida, the City Assembly sent the communiqué to Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama, the President of the House of Councilors, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Minister of Justice and the Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications. The communication strongly urges that Tokyo explain and clarify the new guidelines as well as the criteria that will be used by Immigration officials in determining whether to renew foreigners' visas.

Kobe questions the ambiguity of the guidelines should a foreigner seeking visa renewal not be enrolled in the social health insurance system. It also seeks clarity on situations in which a foreign applicant owns private health insurance in lieu of the required social insurance. The communiqué points out that many foreign residents prefer to carry private insurance because of the additional benefits it provides - benefits that non-Japanese typically find very important and necessary, such as payment for emergency family reunion expenses in the event of serious illness or injury and repatriation of remains to the home country in the event of death. Social health insurance provides no coverage for these and other medical expenses that foreign residents typically face.

The public insurance plans were designed with the Japanese in mind and non-Japanese often find it does not fit their expatriate needs as well as private or international insurance plans.

Kobe has a long and distinguished history in foreign relations. With the opening of its port to the rest of the world a century-and-a-half ago, it has a well-known reputation as an 'international' city. The foreign community is an integral and important part of the city's cultural and economic makeup. Boasting foreign settlements and architecture dating from the 19th century, the city is proud of its heritage of openness to foreigners. Today, Kobe's Port Island is home to a large biotechnology zone, and the city actively seeks foreign researchers to work there.

During World War II, Chiune Sugihara, the heroic Japanese diplomat, and his wife Yukiko, provided transit visas to more than 6,000 Jewish refugees to escape Lithuania and Nazi atrocities. As a result, many of the refugees settled in Kobe where they joined other Jews already residing in the city. Although Japan was allied with Germany during the war, the Jewish foreigners were well treated and protected from the holocaust. Today, Kobe City is home to a Jewish Synagogue and a Mosque, and also has many other religious congregations.

According to Ronald Kessler, Chairman of the Free Choice Foundation, many foreign residents in Japan are concerned that the new guidelines will have an adverse effect on their finances, their health care and their resident status. Kessler said,"the Kobe City Assembly and Chairman Yoshida are sympathetic to the foreign community. "They seem to be well aware that what hurts them will be felt by the whole city - and possibly the entire country. They do not believe the new guidelines to be in the best interest of Kobe City, said Kessler."

This is not the first time for Kobe to be at odds over Japan's immigration policy. The city had previously asked the National Government to provide 5-year visas for biotech researchers residing and working there instead of the typical 1-year visas.

About A-List Models

Houston Fashion Weekend has been created for the purpose of expression, and showing who and what we are through the world of art and fashion. “People don’t consider Houston to be the epicenter for couture that it is, and we just wanted to bring that world to the forefront,” said Rebecca Briscoe, president of A List Models. When asked why she wanted to work with these kids, Briscoe, an educator herself adds, "The common thread here is delicacy and fabric, that being the delicate health some of these courageous young cancer patients are faced with. Yet, within their little selves is woven a fabric of resilience and strength. I'm passionate about them, their well-being and I'm grateful to have the opportunity to be around them. Certainly there is a designer's heart amongst them."

New Report: Leadership Programs Can Help Solve Racial Inequalities in Communities Across the Country – Key Methods and Recommendations

New Report: Leadership Programs Can Help Solve Racial Inequalities in Communities Across the Country – Key Methods and Recommendations

First Report to Analyze the Link between Major Philanthropy Investments in the Racial Equity and Leadership Development Fields

Oakland, CA (PRWEB) September 8, 2010

Leadership programs can help solve racial inequalities in access to education, healthcare, income and wealth, but many current approaches to leadership development actually maintain and promote racial inequalities, according to a new report released today by the Leadership Learning Community and other thought leaders in the leadership development and racial equity fields.

The report, How to Develop and Support Leadership that Contributes to Racial Justice, suggests that a large number of leadership programs associate leadership with equal opportunity and individualism. This thinking does not recognize that current systems (i. e. policy, culture and institutional practices) can cause racial identity to limit one’s access to life opportunities. It also focuses too narrowly on changing the behavior of individual leaders. Instead, leadership programs should: 1) make their programs more accessible for people of color; 2) help participants understand how race limits access to opportunities – in other words, the impact of structural racism; and 3) promote collective leadership. This approach will help participants work together to tackle the systems that maintain racial inequalities.

“This report offers strategies and positive examples to inform and inspire the thousands of leadership programs in the U. S. to redefine their approach,” noted Deborah Meehan, Executive Director at the Leadership Learning Community and one of the authors. “One example of a program leveraging collective leadership to address educational success, an area where there are significant racial disparities, is the Leadership in Action Program (LAP) by the Annie E. Casey Foundation. LAP brings together 25-40 leaders from public, private and community organizations to collaborate across multiple sectors to reach a common goal: increase the number of children prepared to learn when entering school in the city of Baltimore, MD. Between 2001 and 2009, the school readiness of Baltimore city kindergartners increased from 28% to 64%.”

According to PolicyLink, supporting people of color to take on leadership roles within their communities is a prerequisite for reducing poverty and disparities. There is an opportunity to increase the access that people of color have to leadership roles by improving the current approach to leadership development. Leadership programs need to be more accessible to people of color who have been excluded from many opportunities and give them access to training, resources and networks. Also, program training should help participants understand how policies, culture and institutions are part of a complex system that maintains racial inequalities. Finally, the trainings need to promote collective leadership that connects participants across organizations and sectors to change the system.

The Greenlining Institute’s Academy Director, Danielle Trimiew, said, “In our leadership development work, we are always striving to implement best practices. This report offers compelling evidence for the need to incorporate a structural racism framework into our leadership training. Moving forward, we are going to emphasize systems thinking and analysis in our curriculum so that participants can learn strategies to address structural racism. This knowledge is going to help us train our participants to better serve low-income communities.”

With appropriate support, people of color will have influence at policy tables and be better equipped to create solutions for their communities.

Other recommendations include:
Open Conversation about Race: Provide time and space for participants to talk about race and their racial identity. This gives participants an opportunity to transform their thoughts and feelings about race and how it impacts their work. Training: Incorporate elements of racial justice training, i. e. an analysis of structural racism. This is different from diversity training, which focuses on interpersonal relations and cultural awareness. Tracking: Monitor changes in whether or not people of color have increased access to leadership in communities and organizations, and more of an impact on policy making. Track the changes over the long term. Funding: Provide adequate funding to leadership programs that promote racial justice. Programs should also help participants understand how to access resources. “We have a rich history in community leadership development and we know the criticality of addressing structural racism and promoting racial healing to remove barriers to opportunity,” said Dr. Gail C. Christopher, Vice President–Program Strategy with the W. K. Kellogg Foundation. “We are excited because this is an important report that proactively addresses the impact of structural racism on leadership development.”

The publication is based on conversations with more than 150 individuals and organizations running and funding leadership programs across the nation, and an extensive review of existing literature in both racial equity and leadership development.

A free PDF of the report and a list of resources are available at http://bit. ly/LeadershipRaceForm (http://bit. ly/LeadershipRaceForm)] and http://bit. ly/LeadershipRaceInfo (http://bit. ly/LeadershipRaceInfo)].

The publication is co-authored by: Terry Keleher, Applied Research Center (ARC); Sally Leiderman, Center for Assessment and Policy Development (CAPD); Deborah Meehan, Leadership Learning Community (LLC); Elissa Perry, Think. Do. Repeat.; Maggie Potapchuk, MP Associates; Professor john a. powell, Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity at The Ohio State University; and Hanh Cao Yu, Ph. KelseyCare Advantage has earned Medicare’s highest member satisfaction rating for the second consecutive year, a key quality indicator for Medicare beneficiaries who may be reviewing their health plans in advance of the open enrollment season which begins on Nov. 15.

According to the annual Consumer Assessment of Health Care Providers and Systems (CAHPS) survey released by Medicare, KelseyCare Advantage is one of the highest-rated Medicare Advantage plans in the Houston area.

“With so much confusion surrounding health care today, we’re thrilled that our KelseyCare Advantage plan received the highest possible rating for member satisfaction. Coupled with the high marks it received from our members for excellence in physician communication and health plan quality, we know our members feel they are receiving outstanding quality care that is of good value,” said Marnie Matheny, President of KelseyCare Advantage.

The survey awards one to five stars (five being the best) in a number of areas, including customer service, health care quality and health outcomes, as well as physician communication. For the second year in a row, KelseyCare Advantage has earned a five-star rating in health plan quality, according to the annual Medicare CAHPS survey.

KelseyCare Advantage also received a five-star rating in each of the following categories:
Doctors who communicate well  Access to primary care physicians  Customer service  Overall rating of health care quality  Overall rating of plan for responsiveness and care  Screenings for breast cancer, colorectal cancer, osteoporosis, cardiovascular care and diabetes care  Vaccines for flu and pneumonia  Member experience with the drug plan Member satisfaction survey results are published in the 2011 Medicare & You handbook. The publicly reported results help beneficiaries evaluate and choose a Medicare plan according to member satisfaction ratings.

About Xylitol

Xylitol is a natural sugar derived from birch trees, corn cobs, fruits and other natural sources. Xylitol is considered a sugar alcohol and has zero net effective carbohydrates, which means xylitol is not digested and processed by the body as a dietary carbohydrate, and therefore has a minimal impact on blood sugar levels. Xylitol is absorbed slowly by the body, resulting in a low glycemic index of seven compared to table sugarÂ’s index of 83 (or higher). In addition, because xylitol has 40 percent fewer calories, it can also be used as a sugar substitute in many of todayÂ’s popular diets. Xylitol is endorsed by dental associations worldwide, approved in the United States as a food additive in unlimited quantity for foods with special dietary purposes and recognized by the World Health Organization and Federal Drug Administration as a safe and effective food additive.

About Xlear, Inc.

Founded in 2000, Xlear, Inc. is recognized as one of the leading manufacturers of xylitol products, and one of the largest importers of xylitol in the United States. Xlear, Inc. offers Xlear®, a patented nasal wash; a complete line of dental health products offered under the SpryTM Dental Defense System brand; and XyloSweet TM, raw xylitol crystals used as a sugar substitute in cooking, baking and general consumption. Meth Crawls the Landscape of America

Meth Crawls the Landscape of America

Survey shows overall methamphetamine treatment admissions have increased five times over the last decade and law makers are seeking to pass prohibitive legislation on common meth ingredient.

(PRWEB) February 2, 2005

The methamphetamine epidemic in the United States is not just a problem in rural America. ItÂ’s so prevalent that a Google News search on methamphetamine turns up over 5,000 articles in just the last thirty days.

The drug has crawled its way onto the doorstep of nearly every city in the country and it is so insidious that it would be hard to exaggerate its negative effects on addicted individuals, families and communities. In fact, a recent article released by the Rueters news agency calls it the ‘devil’s drug’.

Meth lab busts have soared to well over 1,000 per year in multiple states and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) reports that treatment admission rates for this class of drug have increased more than five times across the country in the last decade.

“We have definitely seen an increase in people seeking help for meth addiction,” reports Gary Smith, the Executive Director of Narconon Arrowhead. As one of the nation’s largest and most successful drug rehabilitation and education programs, approximately 25 percent of their current clients are in treatment for methamphetamine.

“Since people come to our program from across the country, the increase isn’t isolated to one area or region,” Smith adds. Narconon Arrowhead’s proven track record of successfully rehabilitating meth addicts makes them a diamond in the rough, as most programs have a very difficult time effectively treating them. Smith credits their success to the drug-free rehabilitation methodology they use that was developed by American author and humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard.

The easily obtained ingredients to manufacture meth (also known as crank, crystal, ice) and the mobility of the labs make it difficult for law enforcement officials to track down a high percentage of potential busts. Even when these labs are tracked down and the manufacturers arrested, the toxic chemicals used in the process are hazardous and cost thousands to be properly disposed of.

Information provided by the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) indicates that methamphetamine users and manufacturers take irresponsibility and neglect to the level of endangerment. In 2003 more than ten percent of meth lab-related incidents in the United States involved children, most of whom had been directly or indirectly exposed to the highly toxic chemicals used to manufacture the drug. Drug Endangered Children (DEC) programs have been developed to coordinate the efforts of law enforcement, medical services, and child welfare workers to ensure that children found in these environments receive appropriate attention and care.

In an effort to curb manufacturing of the debilitating substance several states are seeking to pass legislation that makes the main ingredient found in methamphetamine, pseudoephedrine, harder to obtain. Oklahoma, for example, already has a law in effect that restricts sales of over-the-counter cold medicines that contain the drug and requires consumers to sign for the purchase.

The plan has even gone to the U. S. Legislature in the form of the Combat Meth Act, where the idea is to put pharmacy items containing pseudoephedrine behind the counter and to provide more resources to law enforcement officials.

While the problem still grows, there are hundreds of former meth addicts that are now living healthy lives again because of Narconon Arrowhead. To find out more about meth or the Narconon program, visit www. methamphetamineaddiction. com today or call 1-800-468-6933.

Get Better Sleep by Correcting Hormone Imbalance Naturally with Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy

Get Better Sleep by Correcting Hormone Imbalance Naturally with Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy

Discover a new way to improve your sleep with bioidentical hormone replacement therapy to treat menopause and andropause.

Brooklyn, NY (PRWEB) June 15, 2008

A recent study showed insomnia to be the number-one most severe complaint of women going through menopause (http://www. doctorkalitenko. com/1-26-Managing_menopause_or_andropause). According to menopause specialist Doctor Sergey Kalitenko, an imbalance of hormones is to blame, and with that in mind he has developed a treatment to help his patients get a good night's sleep again.

According to the study, published in the April issue of the Journal of Clinical Nursing, 95 percent of menopausal women surveyed suffered from sleep loss -- and they rated that sleep deprivation as their most severe menopause symptom, even more severe than the night sweats, irritability, memory loss or hot flashes that often accompany menopause.
"Menopause is a natural phase in every woman's life," -- said Sergey Kalitenko, MD, a menopause specialist who is serving NYC ( New York CIty ) are including Manhattan, Brooklyn, Long Island ( LI ) "The sleep problems that come with menopause -- the end of a woman's fertility and menstrual periods -- are the result of a change in the balance of the hormones estrogen, progesterone and testosterone as the ovaries shut down," -- Dr. Kalitenko said.

That hormone imbalance is also behind the female libido loss, vaginal dryness and other sex problems many of the middle-aged menopause sufferers Dr. Kalitenko treats in his NYC office. In some women, these symptoms can come together with the rest and lead to depression.

And the ill effects of menopause can continue long after the in-your-face symptoms abate: menopause can accelerate osteoporosis -- resulting in a greater risk of large-bone fractures -- and hasten the onset of coronary artery disease.

But there's good news: hormone levels are relatively easy to replenish.
So to help give his patients some much-deserved menopause relief, Dr. Kalitenko has developed a regimen of menopause treatment based upon hormone replacement therapy (http://www. doctorkalitenko. com/1-24_Hormone_replacement). He uses hormones with the same molecular structure as those found naturally within in the human body, leading to a more balanced hormone profile.
Dr. Kalitenko starts every treatment regimen by taking a thorough medical history and personally performing a routine exam with diagnostic blood work.

If a patient decides to go through with the hormone replacement therapy, or HRT, treatment is started using hormones with the same molecular structure as those found within the human body. Results are monitored every two to three months.

"The natural way for menopause sufferers to beat their insomnia," -- doctor Kalitenko said, -- "and the best way to minimize all the short - and long-term health implications of menopause, is hormone replacement therapy using hormones with the same molecular structure as their own."

Dr. Sergey Kalitenko is a physician, board certified in Internal medicine as well as Anti Aging and Regenerative medicine. He has operated a private practice in Brooklyn, New York since 2001 and sees patients from New York City, Staten Island, Bronx, Queens Long Island and beyond. Pain Medication's Negative Side Effects Don't Deter Most Users, Survey Reveals

Pain Medication's Negative Side Effects Don't Deter Most Users, Survey Reveals

Most people believe the reward is greater than the risk when it comes to pain medications with health risks, according to a new survey by morefocus.

Carlsbad, Calif. (PRWEB) October 17, 2006

Most people do not stop taking pain medication when studies reveal potential negative side effects of the medication, according to an independent study conducted by morefocus, an online research organization.

Fifty-six percent of those surveyed said they had not stopped taking pain medication after hearing that it could pose health risks. Some respondents remained unsure of whether to make changes to their pain management techniques, but only 20 percent of respondents stopped taking the pain medication.

"The research shows that most people do not react strongly to the possibility of complications from medications," said Dr. Regan Carey, morefocus Research Director. "It seems most people believe the risk is not greater than the reward."

The survey also revealed some interesting information about people's attitudes towards the use of pain medication. Sixty-four percent of those surveyed believe that the availability of pain medication keeps people from seeking alternative pain management techniques such as massage, meditation, acupuncture and other methods.

This attitude is reflected in the further opinions of those who stopped taking a pain medication that posed health risks. Of that group, more than half said they would switch to another pain medication, while only 25 percent said they would look into alternative pain management methods.

"People are definitely inclined to use medication first," said Dr. Carey. "Even the minority who are scared off by health risks of one drug tend to look around for a different one. It seems that while meditation, massage, and those types of techniques are more common today, most people still turn to medication to relieve their pain."

Further information and summary results of the survey are available on request from morefocus.

(PRWEB) February 16, 2006

Exosect, a leading technology provider of environmentally-conscious insect pest control, today announced that it has signed a regional product development agreement with Makhteshim Agan Industries (MAI), the world's leading generic agro chemical company.

Exosect has signed individual agreements with the MAI group of companies in Israel (Makhteshim), Argentina (MAGAN Argentina S. A.), Australia (Farmoz) and New Zealand (Agronica).

Managing Director of Exosect, Martin Brown, comments, “We are delighted to have signed these agreements with Makhteshim Agan. We believe this collaboration will enable MAI companies to bring to the market environmentally conscious systems which aim to support MAI’s Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programme and importantly provide support to growers for whom residue levels are a key issue.”

Exosect’s product range is based on unique powder technology, which is used as a carrier system for insect control agents. The powder is formulated with specific pheromones, pathogens or pesticides, which deliver a killing or disrupting, affect throughout the population of the target insect.

Claudio Dunan, General Manager at Magan Argentina comments, “Exosect’s technology gives us a key tool in our range of insect control products to provide a complete IPM package to Argentinean growers.

Peter Chalmers, General Manager - Portfolio at MAI in Australia and New Zealand (MAANZ) adds, “Exosex gives the grower a product to be used in IPM systems. This innovative system will especially allow New Zealand growers the flexibility to supply produce suitable for export to new markets such as Taiwan, that has a zero tolerance of insect infestation at the same time as meeting growing demand for zero residues in our traditional EU markets."
