Energy Conservation Can Help Americans Save as Much as $600 Per Year on Energy Bills According to Documentary Film Playing at The Wild & Scenic Film Festival

“Kilowatt Ours – A Plan to Re-Energize America” teaches Americans how to lower their heating bills while protecting health and environment. The 2006 screening tour opens Saturday January 14 at the Wild & Scenic Film Festival in Nevada City, California.

Nevada City, CA (PRWEB) January 13, 2006

A documentary film heralding the financial and health benefits of energy conservation and alternative energy sources will tour the nation this winter. “Kilowatt Ours: A Plan to Re-Energize America” is screening in the Wild & Scenic Film Festival in Nevada City, California on Saturday, January 14 at 3:25pm (for more information: http://www. wildandscenicfilmfestival. org (http://www. wildandscenicfilmfestival. org)). Then, the acclaimed film advocating energy conservation and alternative energy will screen at numerous venues across America, particularly in the Southeast United States, where the environmental damage from coal-fired electricity generation is significant.

“Kilowatt Ours” is the story of filmmaker and conservationist Jeff Barrie's 18 month journey across the southeastern U. S. to document our energy related problems and present practical solutions. Widespread problems revealed in “Kilowatt Ours” include mountaintop removal, air pollution, global warming, childhood asthma and mercury contamination. The film illustrates sensible solutions that allow homeowners to save up to $600 per year on energy bills while helping the environment and protecting human health.

“I hope this film sparks an energy conservation movement across America, while boosting demand for clean renewable power sources in our country” says filmmaker Jeff Barrie, who will lead a discussion at many screenings.

Background: The average home in America consumes nearly 900 kilowatt hours of electricity each month. More than 50% of our nation’s electricity is generated in coal-fired power plants, amounting to nearly 6 tons of coal burned to generate electricity for the typical American home each year. By using products marked with EPA’s Energy Star label, purchasing "alternative energy" generated from renewable resources, more effectively insulating our homes, and utilizing natural energy sources like sunlight, wind and geothermal power, consumers can reduce the impacts of our energy use while saving money.

ING Teams Up with Elite Racing to Announce Newest Race Sponsorship: ING Philadelphia Distance Run

ING, one of the world's leading financial services companies and one of the running community's most committed supporters, announced today that is has partnered with sports marketing and race management powerhouse Elite Racing, Inc., a division of Competitor Group, Inc., to become title sponsor of the ING Philadelphia Distance Run half marathon.

West Chester, PA (Vocus) February 4, 2008

ING, one of the world's leading financial services companies and one of the running community's most committed supporters, announced today that is has partnered with sports marketing and race management powerhouse Elite Racing, Inc., a division of Competitor Group, Inc., to become title sponsor of the ING Philadelphia Distance Run half marathon, www. INGphiladelphiadistancerun. com.

This partnership is a multi-year agreement that involves naming rights as well as a variety of marketing, promotional, hospitality and charitable components. It brings together two of the nation's most well-respected and recognized names in distance running event management and sponsorship.

"We're thrilled to be teaming up with a premier organization like Elite Racing as we broaden our commitment to the sport of running," said Harry Stout, Head of Wealth Management Market Segments for ING. "One of ING's principle businesses is located in the Delaware Valley region, and we're looking forward to a terrific event that brings runners, spectators, employees and the community together in a positive and memorable way. As a leading provider of insurance and asset management solutions for retirement, ING sees the parallels between distance running and financial planning -- it's about starting small, setting goals and staying committed for the long-run."

"Elite Racing assumed management of the Philadelphia Distance Run in 2005 and has since worked hard to uphold its high standards and increase its visibility on the world's stage," said Adam Zocks, the race's general manager. "Our partnership with ING only adds to the prestige of the event. We invite all runners to experience the tradition and excitement of the ING Philadelphia Distance Run on Sunday, September 21, 2008."

The ING Philadelphia Distance Run has been one of the most popular and respected half marathons in the country for 30 years. The 13.1 mile scenic course showcases many of the city's celebrated and historic sites. In addition to outstanding performances, by international elite athletes, the event features live bands every mile, as well as races for children between the ages of three and twelve.

Last year, over 14,000 runners, walkers and wheel-chair participants registered for the event, and nearly 12,000 finished. This year's event will be held on September 21, marking its 31st anniversary.

With today's announcement, ING adds another premier running event to its portfolio of race sponsorships around the globe.

In the United States, ING became the first-ever title sponsor of the ING New York City Marathon in 2003. Today, ING's list of title running sponsorships has grown to include the ING Miami Marathon, the ING Georgia Marathon, the ING Bay to Breakers 12K in San Francisco and, most recently, the ING Hartford Marathon which will commence October 11. The company is also a major sponsor of the Denver Marathon and the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon.

Both ING and Elite have built outstanding reputations in the running community, each sharing common values when it comes to managing, marketing and sponsoring premier race events. Working together, their goal is to make the ING Philadelphia Distance Run even more successful by enhancing the experience for runners, spectators and everyone involved.

As title sponsor, ING brings plans to encourage spectator participation by "painting the town orange" -- the company's trademark color -- and setting up special cheer zones along the race course. The company will draw upon its nearly 700 employees based in West Chester, Pennsylvania, as Brand Ambassadors to help staff the race along the course. ING will also activate its ING Run for Something Better program locally.

ING Run for Something Better is the charitable companion to the company's running sponsorships which provides funding to local community and school-based running and fitness programs. The initiative is designed to encourage a healthy, active lifestyle in the fight against childhood obesity. Since its inception in 2003, the ING Run for Something Better has encouraged thousands of children, parents and teachers to adopt healthier lifestyles. It has donated more than one million dollars to youth running initiatives in those regions.

Delaware Valley area residents can also participate in the ING Run for Something Better campaign by donating $10 or more to the charitable fund at www. orangelaces. com. Each person who contributes will receive a special pair of orange shoelaces as a token of support to show they are "tied to kids' fitness." All proceeds directly benefit local ING Run for Something Better youth running and school-based fitness programs.

About the ING Run for Something Better
The ING Run for Something Better is a fundraising campaign that supports community and school-based running programs. Linked to ING's long-distance race sponsorships, the program was created to introduce kids to the benefits of sport, a habit of physical fitness, and a healthy lifestyle that prevents conditions such as childhood obesity. In today's world of poor nutrition and less-active lifestyles -- which may contribute to childhood obesity -- ING is using its position as a sponsor of marathons worldwide as a platform for helping kids get fit through free school-based running programs. ING's goal is to invest in the health of American children by donating $2 million to running programs to get 500,000 kids running by 2010. ING has also created a special charitable fund to encourage others to support the cause by making their own contribution. When someone donates $10 or more to the ING Run for Something Better, ING will recognize their contribution by giving them a special pair of orange shoelaces to wear showing that they are "tied" to supporting kids' fitness. 100% of the proceeds from the sale of orange laces go to the ING Run for Something Better fitness programs. For more information about the orange laces, go to www. orangelaces. com.

telecentre. org is launching the electronic version of the book From the Ground Up, a piece collecting images, stories and experiences from users and members of the telecentre movement around the world. To celebrate the launch and in a bid to reflect the diversity of the movement, telecentre. org is inviting contributors in three languages English, French and Spanish at http://ebook. telecentre. org/contest (http://ebook. telecentre. org/contest).

Best contributors in each language will have the chance to win a 30GB video iPod or a digital camera as they enrich the book which is designed to evolve and include multiple authors and perspectives. These prizes constitute the very tools used by people on the ground to document events, store and share information and their daily experiences. All submissions will be shown on the "living section" of the e-book and the top submissions will also be included in the upcoming CD-ROM version of the e-book. The e-book will continue to evolve thanks to the growing global telecentre movement.

A telecentre is a place where the public can come together to access the internet and learn new skills to empower themselves. Through telecentres, people can make global connections and develop their local communities. “We believe the telecentre is the soul of the villages. So as the needs of the village evolve, the telecentre evolves with them” said Boda János, Hungary telecentre Director.

Connecting all the local telecentres to build an online ecosystem is the goal of telecentre. org and the e-book aims to represent the state of this movement. Malick Sawadogo, ICTD expert in Burkina Faso said "Through this contest, telecentre managers and leaders will get expertise about good practice, innovation and solutions to certain problems.” The e-book contest will get more people engaged and aware of the telecentre movement.

The e-book is a new media approach to writing a collaborative book. Instead of letting the book stay in a linear, static medium, telecentre. org is using online collaboration and distribution to ensure that the book is changing with the movement.

From the Ground Up, was originally developed through a partnership between International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and the Education Development Center’s (EDC) Digital Divide Network. The book is a part of the telecentre. org project. Join the movement, be part of it.

The International Development Research Centre is a Canadian Crown corporation that works in close collaboration with researchers from the developing world in their search for the means to build healthier, more equitable, and more prosperous societies.

Lotus Professional Services Opens in Scottsdale, AZ

Lotus Professional Services, an insurance and investment consulting service, has recently opened its doors in Scottsdale, AZ. Lotus provides quality planning, consultation, seminars and information on life insurance, annuities and health insurance to the marketplace, without the bias of a commission or captive product.

Scottsdale, AZ (PRWEB) September 17, 2007

Lotus Professional Services, an insurance and investment consulting service, has recently opened its doors in Scottsdale, AZ. Lotus provides quality planning, consultation, seminars and information on life insurance, annuities and health insurance to the marketplace, without the bias of a commission or captive product.

Lotus does not sell, represent or work for any insurance or investment house so its clients can be assured of a neutral, third party opinion, and review of their insurance portfolio. Its President, Thomas Purcell, has been a senior agent for several large insurance companies, including New York Life and Blue Cross Blue Shield of AZ.

"Lotus Professional is a unique consulting firm," says Mr. Purcell, "since it doesn't actually sell or represent any insurance company. All we do is carefully analyze a companies plan of insurance or 401k, or a family's policies, and provide an in-depth review. That way, they can make adjustments or changes, without questioning the motivations behind the changes."

The key behind quality advice, he continued, is not to accept referral fees or commissions from the big companies. "Most insurance agents are ethical, and approach their business that way, but we here at Lotus feel that our industry and product knowledge can improve upon most people's plans of insurance -- and provide a 'forest for the trees' viewpoint of a portfolio."

The company also provides seminars and lectures to groups and companies who are looking for more information on insurance and financial products. They can be reached through their website at http://blacklotusfinancial. com (http://blacklotusfinancial. com) or via their toll free number at 1-866-435-9958.

Enjoy a Holiday Cruise Vacation, Post Pictures and Help the Needy

Enjoy a Holiday Cruise Vacation, Post Pictures and Help the Needy

The editor of Planmycruisevacation. com would like to support the homeless. During the holiday season Winston commits to contribute 10 cents for each posted picture on the planmycruise. com website. This money will go to a fund a program for the homeless undertaken by Saint Cyprian of Carthage Church in Columbus, Ohio. This company will contribute 10 cents whenever anyone posts travel pictures taken during a cruise vacation between November 21, 2008 and January 20, 2009.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) October 9, 2008

The editor of Planmycruisevacation. com would like to support the homeless. During the holiday season Winston commits to contribute 10 cents for each picture posted on the planmycruise. com website. This money will go to fund a program for the homeless undertaken by Saint Cyprian of Carthage Church in Columbus, Ohio. This company will contribute 10 cents whenever anyone posts travel pictures taken during a cruise vacation between November 21, 2008 and January 20, 2009.

Wirthlin Worldwide (WW) conducted a survey by interviewing 1,001 adult Americans during November 17 and 20. WW found 52% of women between ages of 35 to 54 years admit that their stress levels go up during the holidays. Almost 40% of the men in this same age group equally agreed to increases in their own stress levels. Results of this survey is in line with American Psychological Association (APA) findings that "Women are more likely than men to report heightened stress levels during the holidays, and they are the least likely to take time to relax or manage that stress in healthy ways."

Holidays will soon be upon us. Everyone loves the holidays. It is a good time to balance work, love and play. This is an ideal time to reconnect with family and friends and establish long lost relationship. It can become a bit overwhelming for some. Imagine trying to prepare for the holidays. One can go very early or late, or plan to be patient when doing shopping because the shops will be crowded. Then just thinking about the cooking, decorating the home, entertaining loved ones will certainly push the blood pressure up.

Some of the coping strategies one can employ to handle holiday stress is to create realistic expectation and not to look forward to a perfect holiday. Learn to say enough is enough and to take short relaxation breaks to let tensions go. A good number of people choose exercise or engage in religious and spiritual activities to help relieve stress during the holiday festivities. Yoga is also becoming a popular remedy to ease holiday tensions.

A simple solution is to get out of town. Winston Cole, editor of Planmycruisevacation. com, says, "It's simple, Plan a cruise vacation and get your loved ones together onboard. Return and post your travel pictures relating to cruise vacation on the website http://www. planmycruisevacation. com (http://www. planmycruisevacation. com). That done, you have helped in feeding the homeless." Then the ghost of the turkey disaster won't appear this year. Cruise lines have qualified chef to do top notch holiday cooking. One can enjoy good food and best thing not even have to clean up afterwards or eat leftover meals the next day.

Plenty of interesting activities abound on board to meet the needs of different folks. Besides, there are lots of great tours waiting at port of call. Throughout the cruise trip there will be many opportunities to buy unique gifts for those with shopping lists.

After adding on the calories there's always a gym onboard all major cruise ships today to work out or a spa center to relax. With entertainment shows and movies to catch up, what a way to spend the holiday traveling on a cruise without the stress.

Planning a cruise vacation is now very easy. Planmycruisevacation. com has everything to make the right choice. This community website on cruise planning for a limited time offers a free "secrets to planning a fantastic cruise vacation report." With this report everyone is assured to make intelligent choices to go on a fabulous cruise trip. Besides cruise planning tips planmycruisevacation. com provides a dedicated cruise consultant and cruise vacation forum to chat with cruise enthusiasts.

Whether to get the free cruise report or to have the need to ask specific cruise questions answered, this site is an unbiased cruise resource center to visit before making a cruise travel. What better way to plunge into the holidays. Taking the stress from the holiday and helping to feed the homeless does make room for more fun. Going on a cruise travel ensures a relaxed and fun holiday without the stress and tension. http://www. Planmycruisevacation. com (http://www. Planmycruisevacation. com) is there to assist and make holiday and vacation dreams become a reality.

SignatureForum Providers Offer Artefill® - The Latest in Dermal Fillers

SignatureForum Providers Offer Artefill® - The Latest in Dermal Fillers

Leading consumer advocacy group SignatureForum announces the addition of Artefill to extensive variety of aesthetic services offered by its network clients.

Evanston, IL (PRWEB) May 30, 2008

Leading consumer advocacy group SignatureForum announces the addition of Artefill to extensive variety of aesthetic services offered by its network clients.

There is no shortage of excellent, FDA approved dermal fillers on the market today, but until now, none could claim permanent skin rejuvenating results. With Artefill®, cosmetic injectables have finally taken that next great leap forward, delivering lifelong results after just two treatments. Artefill® is FDA approved as a wrinkle smoothing solution for nasolabial folds (smile lines), and it has been used successfully for cheek and chin enhancement, wrinkle and scar treatments, and even lip augmentation.

Unlike other established dermal fillers like Restylane® and Juvederm®, Artefill® does not use hyaluronic acid as its central ingredient. Instead, Artefill® injections contain a highly unique blend of Collagen (the same bovine derived type found in traditional collagen injections) and Precision-Filtered Microspheres™. These Microspheres are the secret ingredient, so to speak, made from a strong synthetic polymer similar to high-grade medical plastic. Known as PMMA, this polymer is incredibly durable and pliable, allowing for a level of long-lasting facial rejuvenation never before thought possible.

Not surprisingly, medical spas across the country are taking notice of Artefill® and its incredible potential. In the SignatureForum network, the procedure has already become a popular new option for patients of Dr. Greg Laurence at Germantown Aesthetics in Germantown, Tennessee. Dr. Laurence and other skin care experts are careful to warn patients, however, that Artefill® may not be the best choice for people who have never undergone a dermal filler or BOTOX® treatment in the past. Sometimes, it's wiser to experience the effects of a temporary skin rejuvenation treatment before committing to a permanent solution. Guests can visit SignatureForum's sister site, www. HealthySkinPortal. com for more information regarding dermal fillers and BOTOX® Cosmetic.

As with all cosmetic treatments, the best way to find out about one's treatment options is through a consultation with an aesthetic expert. SignatureForum and its staff of helpful guest service liaisons is happy to help interested customers schedule consultations with Dr. Laurence or other specialists who can answer their questions about Artefill® and other dermal injectables. Visit www. SignatureForum. com for more details or call to find out more about Artefill® today.

Operation Smile Celebrates 20th Anniversary in Vietnam with Historic Medical Mission

Operation Smile Celebrates 20th Anniversary in Vietnam with Historic Medical Mission

To mark 20 years of providing new smiles for children and young adults throughout Vietnam, Operation Smile, Inc. and Operation Smile Vietnam will launch “20 Years of Smiles – A Journey of Miracles” from November 4 – 14, 2009. In 1988, General John W. Vessey (Ret.) invited Operation Smile to send a medical education team to Vietnam as part of the MIA/POW initiatives. In a quest to help normalize U. S./Vietnam relations, Operation Smile sent a team of 38 medical volunteers to Hanoi in February 1989. The team included seven Vietnam War veterans and comprised the largest group of Americans to enter Vietnam since the War’s end in 1975. The team of American and Vietnamese surgeons worked together to repair the cleft lips and palates of 100 Vietnamese children. For the 20th Anniversary, 15 simultaneous missions from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City will be conducted providing cleft lip and cleft palate surgeries, dental treatment, as well as reconstructive surgeries for burns and facial anomalies to 3,000 children.

Norfolk, Va. (Vocus) October 23, 2009

To mark 20 years of providing new smiles for children and young adults throughout Vietnam, Operation Smile, Inc. and Operation Smile Vietnam will launch “20 Years of Smiles – A Journey of Miracles” from November 4 – 14, 2009. To highlight the diversity of programs offered, 15 simultaneous missions from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City will be conducted providing cleft lip and cleft palate surgeries, dental treatment, as well as reconstructive surgeries for burns and facial anomalies.

The free programs will be conducted thanks to the generous donation of time and talent from more than 300 international medical volunteers from Vietnam, the U. S., the Philippines, the U. K., Canada, India, Norway, Hong Kong, China, Ireland, Australia, Brazil, Belgium, Italy and Cambodia. The teams will set up in 15 sites to provide free medical and dental screening for thousands of Vietnamese children suffering from cleft lips, cleft palates, dental problems and other facial deformities. Operation Smile hopes to change the lives of nearly 3,000 children and young adults during this 10-day period.

The 20th Anniversary commemoration will begin on November 4 with a Gala Dinner in Hanoi at the Intercontinental Hanoi Westlake with attendance by Smile Ambassador Jackie Chan, officials of the government of Vietnam, Operation Smile Vietnam sponsors and donors, and team members from around the world to mark the historic significance of the 20-year partnership. Other special guests will include: Operation Smile Vietnam’s Youth Ambassador Mai Phuong Thuy (Miss Vietnam 2006), and singers My Tam and Dam Vinh Hung.

On November 6, free medical and dental screenings will begin at 15 sites throughout Vietnam, followed by one week of surgical and dental treatments for selected patients. At the close of the week, approximately 3,000 Vietnamese children will celebrate their new smiles and “A Journey of Miracles” will conclude on November 14 in Ho Chi Minh City with a Smile Festival and Thank You Concert at Le Van Tan Park attended by key officials, sponsors and team members.

Operation Smile Vietnam Board Chairman Kenneth Atkinson commented about the significance of the 20th milestone, saying, “Operation Smile Vietnam has become a well-known organization with a reputation for credibility and building sustainability. We are grateful to our sponsors, our volunteers and our staff for their tireless work and continued commitment to making a difference. We look forward to the next 20 years of helping children smile throughout Vietnam.”

Headquartered in Norfolk, Virginia, U. S.-based Operation Smile was launched 27 years ago by Dr. Bill Magee, a plastic surgeon, and his wife Kathy Magee, a former nurse and clinical social worker, to help children with devastating facial deformities. Today, Operation Smile has a presence in 50 countries in addition to Vietnam, where its history began in 1988 when General John W.

According to Dr. Magee, “When we first went into Vietnam in 1989 we did so because we believed that children are the only language we all have in common. Twenty years later, in Vietnam and in all of our partner countries around the world, we still believe that uniting people across cultures and borders for the sake of a child in need is what helps us heal the wounds of the past. We are proud of what we have accomplished together and extend our best wishes to our friends in Vietnam as they launch a new era of programs to care for more Vietnamese children every year.”

Planning for this historic program has been underway for more than a year and is made possible by generous donations from sponsors in Vietnam including: Mobifone, Unilever, HSBC, and Manulife, and in the U. S. by generous foundations, corporations and families. “20 Years of Smiles – A Journey of Miracles” is being supported by the Vietnamese government, the Ministry of Health, and the U. S. Embassy.

AIDSArchive. com tells the story of HIV/AIDS with newspaper articles

AIDSArchive. com tells the story of HIV/AIDS with newspaper articles

Archive contains more than 50,000 newspaper pages that detail the history of HIV/AIDS.

Cedar Rapids, IA (PRWEB) April 9, 2006

NewspaperARCHIVE. com has just released AIDSArchive. com, a free newspaper archive of 50,000 newspaper pages from around the country that contain articles about HIV/AIDS. The archive includes news stories from 1983 when French scientists discovered the HIV virus, articles about President Ronald Reagan's 1987 declaration that AIDS was "public health enemy No. 1," along with thousands of other headlines regarding the disease.

With the use of Adobe Reader and Optical Character Recognition technology, researchers can quickly obtain articles about HIV/AIDS by searching with key words or dates. For example, to find newspapers about AIDS activist and victim Ryan White, just type in his name. If a researcher is looking for articles on a specific date, such as November 8, 1991, the day after basketball superstar Magic Johnson retired due to the HIV virus, the date can be selected on the Advanced Search page.

"The history of AIDS is filled with indifference, hatred, intolerance and eventually acceptance and action," said Greg Hollingsworth, researcher for the AIDSArchive. com. "The newspaper articles within this archive give readers a glimpse into the history of a subject that has not left the spotlight for 25 years."

Along with the newspaper archive, AIDSArchive. com contains a brief timeline on the history of HIV/AIDS that is told through newspaper accounts. For example, the timeline begins in 1981 where an article from the Syracuse Herald Journal titled "2 deadly diseases strike homosexuals" details the CDC's announcement of an alarming increase in reports of Kaposi's sarcoma and Pneumocystis in gay men.

"The archive includes stories about AIDS activist and victim Ryan White, celebrities like Arthur Ashe and Rock Hudson, as well as others who have lived through the fear and hysteria AIDS caused in the late 1980s and early 1990s," said Jeff Kiley, General Manager of NewspaperARCHIVE. com.

AIDSArchive. com is part of a series of free newspaper archives sponsored by NewspaperARCHIVE. com that include AsbestosArchive. com, TitanicArchive. com, CollegeBasketballArchive. com, ProBaseballArchive. com, FBIArchive. com and September11Archive. com.

Researchers interested in finding more information about AIDS/HIV can also go to NewspaperARCHIVE. com where there are 999,598 newspaper pages with the word AIDS and 262,575 on HIV. Articles written before the term "AIDS" was used can also be found in NewspaperARCHIVE. com by searching for "Kaposi's sarcoma" or "Pneumocystis."

NewspaperARCHIVE. com, the largest newspaper database available online, is owned by Heritage Microfilm and began in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in 1999.

Summit Medical Group Holds Annual Food Drive

Summit Medical Group Holds Annual Food Drive

Community Food Bank is the beneficiary of the Fifth Annual Food Drive, sponsored by the Information Services department at Summit Medical Group.

Berkeley Heights, NJ (Vocus) November 17, 2010

Summit Medical Group’s Information Services department is sponsoring its Fifth Annual Food Drive to benefit the Community Food Bank of New Jersey, November 18 to December 15.

IS department team members have been sponsoring the drive since 2006, when it began as a teambuilding event. Since then, they have collected 2.3 tons of food. In addition to the drive, IS team members also coordinate volunteer nights at CFB’s food warehouse in Hillside. Warehouse volunteers sort and repack food for distribution to recipients, stock shelves with food, assist in the Thrift Shop, assemble fundraising mailings, and sort and package new clothes for children in the Kids’ Division. Over the past year, SMG employees have donated more than 100 hours of volunteer work.

“There are a terrific number of people at SMG who love to volunteer and give of themselves, but it is not so easy to figure out where and how to contribute,” notes Christina English, IS department team member. “By organizing the food drive and the volunteer nights, it provides people with an opportunity to give back to others and takes the work out of trying to figure out where to volunteer. SMG volunteers can also bring family members with them and spend some time together doing a good deed.”

The public is invited to contribute. Donation boxes are in the main reception area at each Summit Medical Group location. At the Diamond Hill Road facility, donation boxes are located in the main reception area at Bensely Pavilion, Lawrence Pavilion and the Administration Entrance. Requested donation items include unexpired: powered milk, peanut butter (plastic jars), boxed meals (rice, pasta, cereal), all canned items (fish, meat, fruit, vegetables). Items in glass jars cannot be donated.

Boots Warn Sun-Starved Brits to Take Care Against the Big Bake

Boots Warn Sun-Starved Brits to Take Care Against the Big Bake

With the sun finally predicted to shine, Boots is urging sun-starved Brits to take care in the hotter weather.

(PRWEB) July 31, 2008

Following the poor start to the summer, and now that sunshine and much warmer conditions are finally being predicted, Boots is urging people to take care whilst still in the UK in order to avoid getting sunburned. The warning comes in advance of the expected hot weather and in light of previous Boots research which revealed that whilst a staggering 60% of British sunburn cases occur on home turf, many Brits still believe that the UK sun is not dangerous, and never use sun protection except abroad.

After the washout summer of 2007 and the gloomy winter, Boots fear Brits will peel off the layers and in a bid to soak up some over-due rays, become increasingly 'slip, slap sloppy'. Despite the high incidence of sunburn whilst at home in the UK, half the population still thinks that skin cancer is only a worry in the UK if people regularly use sunbeds.

According to the figures from Boots (http://www. boots. com/ (http://www. boots. com/)) an alarming one in eight (13%) never use sun protection (http://www. boots. com/onlineexperience/flexible_template_2006.jsp? classificationid=314 (http://www. boots. com/onlineexperience/flexible_template_2006.jsp? classificationid=314)) in the UK. What's more, a startling 23% of Brits, while out and about in the UK, believe they can safely stay in the midday sun on a clear day without protection for a roasting two hours or more.

Furthermore, one in ten of those surveyed claimed that British sunlight is not strong enough to cause skin cancer in any case. According to Skin Cancer Research UK, however, 75,000 new cases of skin cancer are diagnosed in the UK every year, and the midday British summer sunlight is certainly strong enough to contribute to the cause.

Boots suncare expert Mike Brown commented: "What's clear from our research is that people underestimate the strength of the UK sun and the damage it can do. We are worried the nation will throw care aside at the first sight of sun and we are calling on them to remember to apply sun cream (http://www. boots. com/onlineexperience/flexible_template_2006.jsp? classificationid=314 (http://www. boots. com/onlineexperience/flexible_template_2006.jsp? classificationid=314)) before they head out."

Survey Shows that Dog and Cat Owners Know Parasites Pose Risks to Pets and People but Do Little to Prevent Them

Survey Shows that Dog and Cat Owners Know Parasites Pose Risks to Pets and People but Do Little to Prevent Them

Gulf between knowledge and action revealed by nationwide parasite risk survey of more than 1,000 dog and cat owners.

Bel Air, MD (PRWEB) November 15, 2006

A September national survey of more than 1,000 dog and cat owners conducted for the nonprofit Companion Animal Parasite Council (CAPC) revealed that while many people are aware that children are especially at risk of being affected by zoonotic disease caused by the transmission of parasites to humans by pets, they appear indifferent to the risk.

More than a third of the respondents (38 percent) said children play in an area where a pet leaves waste, and 21 percent said they never remove the waste. Only 47 percent said they "always" wash their hands after contact with a pet, leaving a wide margin of opportunity for zoonotic transmission to occur.

"Children are especially vulnerable, given their close contact with pets and pet environments. They should not be allowed to play in the dirt in areas such as playgrounds and sandboxes where animals defecate. That being virtually impossible, it's best to prevent parasites in the first place through year-round control," said Michael Paul, DVM, executive director of CAPC.

Even though 80 percent of pet owners surveyed are aware that parasites that can make their pet sick can also be transmitted to humans, only 23 percent reported being "extremely" or "very" concerned about this happening to them.

Only 54 percent of respondents knew that fleas and ticks can be found in their house all year long, but just 29 percent are concerned about parasites "all year."

"Taking the attitude of 'it won't happen to me' puts pets and people at increased risk of contracting zoonotic disease," said Paul. "With proper hygiene and year-round parasite management measures, pet owners can virtually eliminate the possibility."

Many parasites - including fleas, ticks, tapeworms, roundworms, hookworms and scabies - are zoonotic, meaning animals can transmit them to humans. Find out more at www. petsandparasites. org, a Web site developed by the CAPC that includes easy, effective steps pet owners can take to keep both their animals and families healthy, including hygiene advice and other year-round parasite management tips.

About CAPC

The mission of the CAPC is to foster animal and human health, while preserving the human-animal bond, through recommendations for the diagnosis and year-round management of parasitic infections in dogs and cats. The CAPC is an independent council of veterinarians and other animal health care professionals established to create guidelines for the optimal control of internal and external parasites that threaten the health of pets and people. Its membership represents broad expertise in parasitology, human medicine, public health, veterinary law, private practice and association leadership.

Norfolk, VA (PRWEB) August 18, 2010

Cross Bridge, LLC, a newly-formed organization producing, acquiring and distributing inspirational programming through the Internet at www. CrossBridge. com has announced a new affiliation with EthnoGraphic Media (EGM, Oklahoma City, OK). Through its affiliation with Cross Bridge, EGM will be providing some of its content for broadcast on Cross Bridge's website and BeliefnetTV, which offer award-winning television programs, exciting original programming and compelling feature films and interviews with prominent thought leaders. Both Cross Bridge and BeliefnetTV are owned by BN Media, an entity that also includes the investors behind Affinity4 (www. affinity4.com), an affinity-based marketing company that helps to support the goals of nonprofits by assisting in their fundraising.

EGM President Bill Oechsler states, "This is exactly where we want to be to reach the 18-25 year old viewer. Cross Bridge is a preferred content provider to BeliefnetTV which has an arrangement with Hulu." EthnoGraphic Media's films will be featured on these popular websites where its films will be strategically positioned to reach the youth community with thought-provoking topics and to bring awareness to critical issues.

EGM explores topics ranging from the AIDS pandemic to the Israeli/Palestinian conflict and transcendent themes like the power of forgiveness. EGM films share moving stories, but the organization is not about producing "feel-good" programming. Instead, each film is designed to start a global conversation incorporating many perspectives of the issues that are shaping our time. EthnoGraphic Media will continue to create original programming that includes compelling feature films, documentaries, and interviews with leaders reaching across cultural, racial and denominational boundaries.

"Because Cross Bridge and BeliefnetTV include faith-inspired content in their offerings, their programming fills a void left by the mainstream media. We are excited to be a part of that programming. Our mission to reach youth fits well with Hulu, for example, and we look forward to initiating new discussions among the audiences we will reach with Cross Bridge as one of our content partners," continues Oechsler. In this initial release with Cross Bridge, EGM's films include Beyond the Gates of Splendor and End of the Spear, as well as Miss HIV. To view these films go to www. Hulu. com.

For Cross Bridge, the new affiliation with EthnoGraphic Media adds variety and challenging, thought-provoking substance to its current slate of programming. "By building our content with the offerings of well-respected organizations such as EthnoGraphic Media, we are better able to fulfill our brand promise to deliver "Media That Inspires" to the broadest audience possible," says Cross Bridge co-founder and President/Chief Executive Officer Steve Halliday, CPA, J. D. At www. Digital Signatures for ECM Presented by ARX at AIIM Seminar

Digital Signatures for ECM Presented by ARX at AIIM Seminar

ARX's (Algorithmic Research) VP of American Business Development to give an educational presentation at the Chicago AIIM - ECM (Enterprise Content Management) Seminar.

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) October 23, 2008

During the upcoming Chicago AIIM - ECM seminar on October 23, ARX's John Marchioni, VP of Business Development, Americas, will be giving a presentation titled "Digital Signatures for Electronic Approvals to Keep Business Moving". The event will detail how digital signatures (http://www. arx. com/digital-signatures-faq. php) are an ideal addition to the technologies, tools, and methods used to manage and deliver content across an enterprise.

In specific, Mr. Marchioni's presentation will address how an organization's investment in automating and scaling a business process can be fully optimized by implementing a digital signature. This is possible because digital signature technology permits an end-to-end electronic process across multiple business functions and applications, eliminating the costs and bottlenecks associated with reintroducing paper into the workflow for signing purposes.

Mr. Marchioni said, "Businesses continue to invest in streamlining and automating mission-critical processes; however, the majority of firms are not realizing the full benefits of the investment." He continued, "Customers that utilize a digital signature solution with their ECM solution (http://www. arx. com/documents/digital-signature-for-document-management-solution. php) enhance document integrity and collaboration capacity, anytime and anywhere."

Event attendees will come away with a practical orientation to different deployment options and operational benefits of digital signatures, such as accelerating the approval cycle, enhancing quality and integrity, and lower costs associated with content archiving, audits and legal challenges.

Ranger Financial Services Announces New "Debt Recovery Results in Hours" Solution

Ranger Financial Services Announces New "Debt Recovery Results in Hours" Solution

Let the experts at Ranger Financial Services solve debt collection problems in as little as a few hours with new "Debt Recovery Results in Hours" solutions

(Vocus/PRWEB) December 29, 2010

The current precarious financial climate has made it even more crucial for businesses to be able to minimize and recover their debt in efficient, cost-effective ways. If they are lucky, that polite reminder letter or follow-up phone call will be all that is needed to bring the account up to date. Unfortunately, sending out additional invoices is often a complete waste of time, and even pre-collection notices often just go straight into the trash. A phone call can sometimes produce the desired outcome, but most small business owners are not comfortable speaking directly to debtors; if this method is used, it is vital that a well-prepared collection script is followed during the conversation.

It is a fact that failure to deal with bad business debt in the most effective way can threaten the financial security of a business. Hiring the services of an experienced accounts receivables management firm is the method that is guaranteed to produce the best results. Ranger Financial Services is one such firm that is experiencing rapid growth in North America as their innovative approaches to debt collection leaves an increasing number of businesses satisfied. The experienced staff analyzes each individual case and work out the best steps to take to recover the debt. Another priority is to preserve a healthy working relationship between the client and the debtor, allowing them to move beyond their difficulties with mutual respect.

Ranger Financial Services employs a variety of techniques to resolve delinquent accounts, including an asset search to establish what the debtor owns that may offer potential for the attachment of a lien, and questioning neighbors and business partners as part of the investigative process. Without resorting to underhand tactics or threatening behavior, the staff know how to strike the balance between using techniques that can be potentially destructive and applying intense pressure. The role of Ranger Financial Services is like that of a mediator, and constructive resolution of the problem is always favored over more traditional debt recovery methods.

Ranger Financial Services has a new debt recovery plan for commercial companies that upon agreement sends out an aggressive team of debt collection professionals to your debtors place of business and immediately puts pressure on your debtors. Unlike other commercial debt collection firms in the area, Ranger Financial Services has resources in North Texas that can expedite recovery of monies owed to you.

Before you refer a delinquent account to an attorney, see what Ranger Financial Services can do for you. Avoiding litigation will save you from a costly, stressful experience. This year, Consona was ranked 181, two spots higher than last year's rank of 183. "Consona continues to move up in the Software 500 ranking, thanks to our ability to maintain a strategic financial vision while providing award-winning technology solutions to our customers," said Jeff Tognoni, CEO of Consona.

"The 2009 Software 500 results show that revenue growth in the software and services industry was healthy, with total Software 500 revenue of $491.3 billion worldwide for 2008 representing 8.8 percent growth from the previous year," saidJohn P. Desmond, editor of Software Magazine and Softwaremag. com.

"The Software 500 helps CIOs, senior IT managers and IT staff research and create the short list of business partners," Desmond said. "It is a quick reference of vendor viability. And the online version to be posted soon at www. Softwaremag. com is searchable by category, making it what we call the online catalog to enterprise software."

The Software 500 is a revenue-based ranking of the world's largest software and services suppliers targeting medium to large enterprises, their IT professionals, software developers and business managers involved in software and services purchasing. Some 44 percent of the 2009 Software 500 companies are privately held.

Go to www. Softwaremag. com and click on Subscribe to be among the first to see the 2009 Software 500. It is being released first in the digital publication to be distributed in mid-September.

The ranking is based on total worldwide software and services revenue for 2008. This includes revenues from software licenses, maintenance and support, training and software-related services and consulting. Suppliers are not ranked on their total corporate revenue, since many have other lines of business, such as hardware. The financial information was gathered by a survey prepared by King Content Co. and posted at www. Softwaremag. com, as well as from public documents.

DuPont R&D Pipeline Continues to Deliver in Challenging Global Economy

DuPont R&D Pipeline Continues to Deliver in Challenging Global Economy

Over $10 Billion in 2008 Sales Generated from New Products; Demonstrates Strength in Innovation Pipeline

Wilmington, Del. (Vocus) February 11, 2009

DuPont Senior Vice President and Chief Science & Technology Officer Uma Chowdhry today announced that the DuPont research pipeline delivered strong results in 2008 in the face of a global economic recession with over $10 billion of 2008 revenue from new products commercialized in the previous five years.

"Our R&D engine is powerful and continues to deliver high-margin, high-performance products even in this challenging environment," Chowdhry said. "Our scientists are more determined than ever to seize opportunities to create new, sustainable products and technologies that will deliver value for our customers both today and as customers position their businesses for the recovery from this global economic crisis."

DuPont has several metrics in place to measure the progress of its R&D pipeline:

Sales From New Products: DuPont sales from new products launched in the previous five years was $10.5 billion in 2008 or approximately 35 percent of the company's revenue. Revenue from new products and applications has increased by more than $5 billion since 2002.

Patents Filed and Granted: DuPont scientists have more than doubled the number of patents they filed in the United States since 2001. In 2008, DuPont filed more than 1,900 patent applications and were granted 495 patents during the year. DuPont currently holds more than 6,000 active U. S. patents.

New Product Launches: DuPont commercialized 901 new products and applications in 2008, bringing the total to more than 5,000 new products and applications launched in the past five years.

Examples of significant new product introductions in 2008 include:
The Y Series Soybeans from Pioneer Hi-Bred out-yield competitive varieties by as much as 10 percent. Developed with AYT™ (Accelerated Yield Technology) and proprietary genetics, these are the first in a series of new soybean varieties that allow DuPont to deliver on its goal of increasing soybean yields by 40 percent by 2018.

Research & Development magazine honored DuPont™ Rynaxypyr®, an advanced insect control product, as one of the 100 most innovative new products introduced in 2008. This new active ingredient optimizes a plant's potential to produce a high-quality, high-yielding harvest. Products powered by Rynaxypyr® provide fast-acting, long-lasting protection from pests that damage farmers' crops.

DuPont continued to achieve more than 30 percent year-over-year growth by providing critical materials to the photovoltaics market. Several new solar materials were introduced in 2008, including DuPont™ Solamet® PV159 thick-film metallization paste for the frontside of a photovoltaic solar cell which provides significant improvement in lowering cost per watt for the producer through increased efficiency and higher electrical output.

DuPont™ ChromaPremier® Pro System is a new refinish coatings system designed for high-volume collision repair shops providing faster drying times which can help free up automotive paint booths more quickly and minimize energy costs without sacrificing performance needed for high-temperature environments.

DuPont continued its efforts to bring to market high-performance renewably sourced materials, including two sustainable packaging products: DuPont™ Biomax® PTT for molded caps and containers and DuPont™ Biomax® TPS for biodegradable, compostable packaging structures.

DuPont™ Kevlar® for vehicle armor laminates includes mine resistant ambush protected (MRAP) vehicles that are designed to withstand assaults from improvised explosive devices and other threats. In this new application, laminates made with DuPont™ Kevlar® brand fiber are being used in the MRAP vehicle to provide the balance of ballistic threat protection and weight with an inherently non-flammable material.

DuPont is a science-based products and services company. Founded in 1802, DuPont puts science to work by creating sustainable solutions essential to a better, safer, healthier life for people everywhere. Operating in more than 70 countries, DuPont offers a wide range of innovative products and services for markets including agriculture and food; building and construction; communications; and transportation.

Lafe's Natural Bodycare Launches Rebranded, Reformulated, "Cleaner and Greener" Deodorant Line

Lafe's Natural Bodycare Launches Rebranded, Reformulated, "Cleaner and Greener" Deodorant Line

Lafe's Natural Bodycare, which has provided health-conscious consumers an effective and healthy alternative to antiperspirants since 1992, announced it has reformulated and rebranded its line of deodorants. 12 of the 22 products in the line are now more than 70 percent USDA NOP certified organic, using natural antibacterial agents and certified organic ingredients. The new packaging, in a semi-transparent, natural-look plastic, is designed to reinforce the cleaner and greener improvements to the product line.

Austin, TX (PRWEB) August 17, 2008

Lafe's Natural Bodycare, which has provided health-conscious consumers an effective and healthy alternative to antiperspirants since 1992, announced it has reformulated and rebranded its line of deodorants. The improvements to the deodorant line make Lafe's an unparalleled choice for those seeking natural and organic personal care products.

The product line features 22 varieties of deodorant roll-ons, sprays, sticks, stones, and footsprays -- twelve of which are more than 70 percent USDA NOP (National Organic Program) certified organic.

Other products in the line, including glycerin-based twist sticks (with 97 percent natural ingredients) and deodorant stones made from mineral salts, offer consumers additional, natural personal care options.

"The new formulations of our deodorants, with higher percentages of organic ingredients across the line, improve upon the premium quality products we've been offering our customers for years," said Larson. "The 70 percent threshold is an important one in organic certification; we're the only national brand to have such a large selection of deodorants meeting this standard of quality."

Lafe's deodorants are free of parabens, propylene glycerol, aluminum chlorhydrate, mineral oil, petroleum-based ingredients, artificial fragrances, and synthetic preservatives. The products contain natural antibacterial agents as well as certified organic ingredients like hemp oil, aloe vera, and essential oils.

The new packaging, in a semi-transparent, natural-look plastic, is designed to reinforce the cleaner and greener improvements to Lafe's deodorants. Larson noted that the new packaging "reflects our continued commitment to making high-quality, certified organic personal care products."

Lafe's also offers additional incentive for customers - 1 percent of its profits are donated to breast cancer education and prevention.

Lafe's Natural Bodycare products -- including the soon-to-be-released line of baby products and the forthcoming joi organics line of products for women - are available at a number of stores in the U. S. and Canada specializing in organic products, and can also be ordered online at www. lafes. com.

About Lafe's Natural Bodycare:
Founded in 1997 and based in Austin, TX, Lafe's Natural Bodycare (www. lafes. com) provides products that promote good health, sustainable living and an eco-friendly lifestyle. Founder Lafe Larson is committed to creating products made with certified organic ingredients and free of parabens, propylene glycol, chemical fragrances and synthetic preservatives.
