David Begg Associates to Offer Expanded Analytical Services

David Begg Associates to Offer Expanded Analytical Services

New Services Address Growing Needs of the Pharmaceutical and Dietary Supplement Industries

Boston, Mass. (Vocus) March 26, 2009

David Begg Associates (DBA), an NSF International Company, today announced new analytical service offerings for the pharmaceutical and dietary supplement industries. DBA Analytical, the laboratory division of DBA, provides manufacturers with additional analytical testing and consulting service offerings.

NSF International acquired DBA in September 2007 to expand its unique pharmaceutical service offerings worldwide. DBA offers a broad range of pharmaceutical solutions and expertise in quality management, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and regulatory compliance issues, as well as high-quality training for their staff.

"With DBA Analytical, we can now provide manufacturers with accredited testing services," said Lori Bestervelt, Ph. D., NSF International Senior Vice President & Chief Technical Officer. "With state-of-the-art laboratories in Ann Arbor, Michigan, including an extensive array of instrumentation, we can accommodate client needs for routine analysis, custom analytical method development, testing and stability services."

These services, which help pharmaceutical manufacturers stay ahead of new regulatory requirements, include:
New Dietary Ingredient (NDI) notifications: If a company is planning to use an ingredient that was not used in a product prior to October 1994, the FDA requires that the company submit a safety assessment (NDI Notification) verifying that the ingredient is safe for human use. This includes developing risk assessments, appropriate toxicology studies and submission preparation for a NDI Notification.  GMP services: GMP consulting, auditing and training services help dietary supplement manufacturers develop and implement a management system compliant with the new GMPs. Training seminars are offered several times a year, and on-site training for manufacturers can be scheduled accordingly.  Stability studies in support of expiration dating: Stability storage and testing to International Conference for Harmonization (ICH) guidelines help manufacturers generate data in support of expiration dating label claims. Stability services include stability study design, determination of appropriate stability-indicating assays and interpretation of stability data.  Method development and validation: Assist dietary supplement companies in developing and validating methods.  Label claim verification: Assist dietary supplement companies with testing related to ingredient label claims to verify ingredients and the absence of contaminants.

In response to the growing U. S. and Canadian demand for in-house and residential professional training, DBA recently opened a new office in Boston. The opening of this U. S. office allows DBA to offer exceptional consulting and training services to pharmaceutical manufacturers and development stage companies at a reasonable cost. DBA Partner Jim Morris oversees the new U. S. team.

"We plan to build on DBA's reputation for providing practical, value-added solutions, while leveraging our new location and expanded consulting team to assist North American clients," said Jim Morris. "DBA's team in the UK and in the U. S. is very experienced and well-respected in the industry. Our team, combined with DBA Analytical's scientific capability, allows DBA to offer a broader range of services: training, consultancy and now analytical testing."

For more information on DBA Analytical's new service offerings, please contact Casey Coy at CCoy (at) DBA-global (dot) com or +1 734-913-5734.

Athena Software (http://www. athenasoftware. net/features-outcomes. html) launches new version of Penelope to improve the effectiveness of client software needs assessment using a web based case management and counseling solution.

Guelph, ON (PRWEB) March 8, 2006

Athena Software (http://www. athenasoftware. net/features-outcomes. html (http://www. athenasoftware. net/features-outcomes. html)) launches new version of Penelope to improve the effectiveness of client software needs assessment using a web based case management and counseling solution. Dana Fox, Director of Business Development Athena Software mailto:dana@athenasoftware. net said, “We know that you care about how well your organization is doing, but it is often hard to know how to measure it.” Fox went on to say that, “Outcomes-based evaluation using client self-rating surveys through the stages of service (pre-mid-post) is one proxy approach to answering the hardest question, are we making a difference.”

Both Penelope and Athena Case Management and Counseling Software applications feature a custom outcomes measurements and social service component (http://www. athenasoftware. net/features-outcomes. html (http://www. athenasoftware. net/features-outcomes. html)) that allows any number of surveys to be easily incorporated into both Penelope and Athena by the system administrator at the agency. Surveys (eg. client satisfaction, self-reported ratings, depression index etc.) can be easily accessed and applied to individuals at the pre - mid - and/or post-service stages depending on the nature of the survey. Individual and/or aggregate outcomes can easily be accessed to give a picture of client-expressed ratings during the stages of service and their degree of change over time. Reports and pivot tables allow evaluation results to be broken out by any period and by any category in the system (eg. gender, age, program, funder/ payer, user-defined fields, worker etc).

EcoTimber Flooring Announced Today The Launch Of Its "Eco Friendly Flooring Guide"

EcoTimber Flooring Announced Today The Launch Of Its "Eco Friendly Flooring Guide"

The Eco Friendly Flooring Guide was launched to educate consumers, resellers, contractors, and architects on sustainability and health issues in the hardwood flooring market.

Richmond, CA (PRWEB) December 3, 2008

EcoTimber launched the online "Eco Friendly Flooring Guide" (http://www. ecotimber. com/guide/eco-flooring-guide. htm) to explain the importance of supply chains, sources, and the manufacturing process of wood flooring in qualifying for "eco-friendly" status.

As the demand for environmentally friendly products and green building (or LEED buildings) rises, so does the demand for high quality and qualified eco friendly flooring products including bamboo flooring, engineered hardwoods and FSC Certified floors.

The Eco Friendly Flooring Guide provides a thorough overview on sustainability and health (http://www. ecotimber. com/guide/flooring-sustainability-health. html) in forestry, logging and the hardwood flooring industry. Understanding the impact wood flooring has on the environment as well as health and indoor air quality are critical components for environmentally friendly flooring manufacturing.

"Even within the hardwood flooring industry, there is a lot of confusion out there regarding the definitions of terms like 'green' and 'eco friendly'," said EcoTimber's Marketing Director, Brad van Unen. "For example, take sustainable forestry. We believe strongly that the Forest Stewardship Council's standards are the most stringent of any certification body. But it's not enough simply to say that our floors are FSC certified. So we developed the Guide to show what exactly FSC certification means, and how it compares to competing claims, many of which we see simply as greenwashing."

The Guide also reviews the importance of the supply chain and sources in developing eco-friendly floors, FSC certification and LEED credit points, wood treatments and finishes, environmental factors, as well as what to look for in sustainable hardwood flooring products.

About EcoTimber:
Since 1992, EcoTimber (http://www. ecotimber. com/) has promoted forest conservation worldwide by selling sustainably-harvested and reclaimed wood products. EcoTimber offers a wide range of domestic hardwood and bamboo flooring, including prefinished engineered and floating floors.

Studio She Hair Extension Boutique Salon Announces Brazilian Keratin Straightening is Here

Studio She Hair Extension Boutique Salon Announces Brazilian Keratin Straightening is Here

Studio She, Maryland's Only Specialized Hair Extension Salon, announces our new Brazilian Keratin Straightening Treatments using Keratin and 24k Gold. This is being offered now and promises amazing results.

Frederick, MD (PRWEB) October 14, 2009

Brazilian Keratin Straightening Treatment with 24k Gold. For people who can't master a salon blowout at home or go get a weekly blowout, a treatment like this is seriously liberating.

Studio She now has Brazilian Keratin treatment that is formaldehyde free.

Like most amazing treatments, it was used first on A-List Celebrities. And now, it is here in full effect.

The straightener is a keratin protein based formula that straightens the hair without breaking the bonds. The formula's first ingredient is milk, in comparison to others in which water is used. The combination of milk, keratin and silk proteins have the ability to reconstruct and retexturize the hair shaft from the inside out creating a smoothing and moisturizing effect. As it is not a chemical relaxer that breaks the bonds of the hair, its effect is not permanent.

This is a hair relaxer that smooths, straightens and de-frizzes the hair without breaking the natural hair bonds. You will never see a line of demarcation when new hair begins to grow in. The Keratin Protein and the 24 K Gold particles combined together give the hair a very smooth effect. The system can be used on any type of hair, even the most damaged, which is why it is so popular and truly loved by both stylist and women all around the world.
This can be used on all hair conditions, tinted, bleached, highlighted and relaxed without any additional hair breakage leaving the hair in a healthier state. Eliminates all frizz from the hair. In humid climates (hello east coast hair) the hair will not frizz! Will not make hair stick straight and can still be curled if desired. Hair is more manageable and easier to blow dry resulting in great shine and better condition. Cuts drying time up to 75% This is a new product with amazing results.

Rowena Fullinwider Runs a Successful Business, Helps Others Succeed, and Beats Cancer: "It's all part of the job."

Rowena Fullinwider Runs a Successful Business, Helps Others Succeed, and Beats Cancer: "It's all part of the job."

Rowena Fullinwider is the epitome of success. Despite a bout with ovarian cancer, she runs a profitable gourmet food business, employs 20 people year round and about 125 during the holiday season. Rowena also mentors women and girls, donates time and energy to the community and various charitable causes, spends time with family and friends, and is politically active. "She's like the Energizer Bunny and it's hard to keep up with her," says Cameron Foster, Rowena's first and longest employee.

(PRWEB) September 17, 2004

Meet Success: Rowena Fullinwider

When entrepreneur Rowena Fullinwider, 65, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer last year, she never stopped working.

As she was lying in bed in her hospital room in Norfolk, Virginia, with a needle in her arm feeding her chemotherapy drugs that would make her sick and weak for days, she made phone calls to customers, suppliers, employees and anyone else she needed to keep in touch with so her gourmet food business wouldn't miss a beat.

You see, Rowena has been in business since 1983 and she now has a lot of people depending on her--20 year-round employees and about 125 during the holiday season. And they're like family to her. She was determined they wouldn't suffer as a result of her cancer. When she got sick, she was also spearheading and co-authoring a new historical cookbook, CELEBRATE VIRGINIA!, which was published in April 2003. (She did, however, cut back on her political and charity work.)

So once a month for eight months, Rowena sat in her hospital bed for an entire day, watching the drip, drip, drip of the poison that would cure her, continuing to work and be cheerful. For days after each treatment, she was nauseous and exhausted. And for almost a year, she didn't have the same energy level and attention to detail as usual. Sales were down slightly although the company's general manager, Joan Place, Creative Director Cameron Foster, and other employees did their best to fill Rowena's shoes during this trying time.

It was a tough year for the mail-order food industry, and it's hard to say whether Rowena's illness was the cause of the company's somewhat lower sales. Rowena's produces delicious gourmet cakes and sauces, and sells other gourmet food products through its catalog, website and retail shop. It also has a lovely tearoom that serves lunch daily.

What did the business do to survive the slowdown and its leader's illness?

"We had implemented a new email program in 2002 and we were blessed with a strong increase in our website sales," Rowena says. The company sent emails about once a month to its customer base promoting various products and encouraging online sales. It is quite successful.

"We've seen our online sales grow by 50% over the last two years as a result of these efforts," says Joan Place. The company has now uploaded its entire catalog to the website. "We expect online sales to be our biggest growth area in the coming year."

Rowena has made it through one year in her path back to health, but 2004 has not been without its challenges. Early this year, Rowena's 77-year-old husband, Peter, was also diagnosed with cancer. As with her own illness, Rowena asked friends and family for prayers and kept her positive attitude. "We'll get through this as we always do," she says. So the roles have reversed. Now she's spending one day a month at Peter's side in the hospital. "As you progress through life, there are always challenges. We don't say, 'Why me?'" says Rowena, "We say, 'What are we going to do about this?' and then we do it."

That's the key. Rowena refuses to sit back and let life happen. "I fought the cancer just like I have dealt with other obstacles in my life--directly, positively and with the help of God, family and friends," she says. She also kept a very positive attitude. "I worked in health care for many years," she says, "and I know that recovery often depends on attitude."

WORDS OF WISDOM FROM ROWENA:

==> Give thanks to God and family every day.

==> Take care of your body and mind. You only get one of each.

==> Give back to the community and you will be rewarded abundantly.

==> Don't let others tell you your dreams are not valid. Your dreams are your dreams. YOU make them happen.

==> Be a good model for children. They learn by example.

==> Make a good product and people will buy it.

==> Give excellent customer service and your customers will return again and again.

==> Thank your employees, vendors, business associates and others frequently. Your appreciation will be rewarded.

==> Use your creativity. You can always think of another way to do something.

==> Always act like a lady, but don't let people push you around. Stand up for what you believe.

A Diverse Group of “Green” Marketers Get Creative In Support of New Climate Change Documentary "The Great Warming"

A Diverse Group of “Green” Marketers Get Creative In Support of New Climate Change Documentary "The Great Warming"

Swiss Re Sponsored the Film; Krystal Planet, Ecover and The Body Shop Lend Products and Promotion

New York, New York (PRWEB) October 23, 2006

"The Great Warming", the new climate change documentary opening nationwide November 3rd in select Regal theaters, is made possible by Swiss Re, the world’s largest reinsurer, while makers of environmentally and ecologically friendly products such as Krystal Planet, Ecover and The Body Shop are lending products and manpower to the promotional and marketing mix of the film to create consumer awareness and help drive ticket sales, it was announced today by the film’s creator and producer, Stonehaven Production’s Karen Coshof.

Karen Coshof: “For the past six years, Swiss Re has sponsored Stonehaven’s climate films. What they’ve brought to the table goes way beyond funding; they’re a true partner and have provided input and expertise. In my opinion, Swiss Re is one of the exceptional global corporations with an ethical and environmentally responsible platform that isn’t just empty talk. Their leadership has paved the way for like-minded companies to get onboard what will help create the next sea-change in America.”

As a company committed to helping enterprises manage risk, Swiss Re seeks to encourage and strive for balance in economic, societal and environmental development.

Krystal Planet is a pioneering environmental company dedicated to eliminating what company founder and CEO Troy Helming calls America’s “Myopic dependence on dirty fossil fuels and foreign energy.” The company is the nation’s leading marketer and distributor of a wide variety of energy saving, efficient products. His company’s 'Clean Power Revolution' supports “The Freedom Plan,” an initiative the company’s founder authored, which outlines a plan to convert the U. S. to 100% clean renewable power in 10 years thus saving the nation’s economy $20 trillion by 2025.

“'The Great Warming' is a powerful example of effective and truthful storytelling, uncluttered by politics or bias. We are proud to sponsor this film and be positioned as the “go-to” company for providing real world solutions for individuals and corporations alike to convert to clean power,” said Troy Helming, Krystal Planet founder and CEO. “Working together, we can return America’s energy policy to the people. Toward that end, our nationwide network of dealers are offering a free, no obligation home energy review to every person who goes to a theater to witness this great film.”

Ecover is a Belgian manufacturer of ecological cleaning products as alternatives to the vast array of chemical-based and caustic household cleaners. All Ecover products degrade, ensuring their safe reversion into the environment. The company has developed into the world’s largest producer of ecological cleaning products.

Ecover strives to provide an alternative solution to conventional cleaning products, using safe ingredients, with no compromise on quality or the environment. With over 25 years experience, Ecover knows inviting just one change into your home can make a great impact.

The Body Shop, a global manufacturer and retailer of naturally inspired, ethically produced beauty and cosmetics products, is committed to being an environmentally responsible retailer. With the belief that companies can help protect the environment and support sustainable development. “The quality of The Great Warming, as a film, it’s content and message of corporate and individual responsibility in helping to reverse the damage to our planet, strikes to the heart of our beliefs and we urge all Americans and citizens of the world to see this movie,” said Simon Cowell, Vice President, Marketing, The Body Shop.

In the months leading up to its national release, The Great Warming (85 minutes) has attracted an unprecedented coalition of leaders in science, religion, business, environmental activism and education. These various groups have bridged historic gaps to join in support of the film, because “they believe in an individual and collective moral responsibility to reverse the growing threats to the environment and human health and well-being,” Coshof said. To that end, the nationwide The Great Warming Call To Action has been signed by leaders from every sector mentioned above.

More than a science lecture or a red alert, The Great Warming is aimed at bringing average citizens up to speed on the issues that are and will continue to affect them. Its overall emphasis offers hope through real-world solutions that, if implemented, can make a difference now and into the future. The film’s effectiveness is already proven, as grassroots screenings in recent weeks have mobilized members of hundreds of churches, schools, town halls and community organizations across the county.

Fawcett Marks Milestone With Television Ads

Fawcett Marks Milestone With Television Ads

TV ads are the first ever for a Democratic candidate in CD-5.

COLORADO SPRINGS (PRWEB) October 6, 2006

Symbolizing the growing momentum of his campaign, Jay Fawcett, candidate for Colorado’s 5th Congressional district, today released a new television advertisement – the first ever for a Democratic candidate in the district.

The ad, titled “Honor Bound,” lays out the stark contrast between Fawcett, a decorated veteran of the Gulf War, and his opponent Doug Lamborn, on veterans issues. The ad will run with broad frequency on several Colorado Springs stations.

Fawcett, who earned a Bronze Star for his service in the first Gulf War, has called for mandatory full funding of the Veterans Administration. He also supports passage of a 21st century GI Bill, and a bill providing and guaranteeing full Health Coverage for National Guard and Reserve personnel. Fawcett has been endorsed by numerous veteran’s groups and leaders, including The Veterans and Military Families for Progress, VetPAC, The Retired Enlisted Association Senior Citizens League, Congressman Lane Evans, ranking Democrat on the House Veterans Affairs Committee, Gen Hugh Shelton, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Wesley Clark, Sen. Max Cleland and numerous other brothers-in-arms.

On the other hand, Sen. Lamborn did not serve in the military. Lamborn also received a note from embattled House Speaker Dennis Hastert, which stated that Hastert would try to get Lamborn a seat on the House Armed Services Committee. Hastert is currently the focus of inquiries regarding why House leaders failed to take action to protect teenage pages in the U. S. House of Representatives after they had learned of a series of inappropriate emails that former Rep. Mark Foley (R-FL) sent to a page.

Fawcett’s campaign continues to draw growing interest from local and national observers.

Under the headline, “5th District No Longer Safe for GOP,” Congressional Quarterly’s CQPolitics. com revised its ranking of CD5 from Republican Safe to Republican Favored this week and reported that “serious resentment” among Republicans continues to dog Republican candidate Doug Lamborn, making the CD-5 election a horse race.

Last week, The National Journal’s widely-watched Hotline publication also focused on CD-5, elevating the race to one of its top 50 House races to watch in its 2006 House Race Rankings.

“We are attracting massive national attention in this race,” said Wanda James, Fawcett’s campaign manager. “Jay is clearly the candidate who republicans, democrats and independents are supporting in CD5.”

About Jay Fawcett

Colorado Springs resident Jay Fawcett is a graduate, former professor, and a former headquarters’ squadron commander of the Air Force Academy. He was deployed in the first Gulf War serving in Desert Shield and the initial helicopter assault into Iraq during Desert Storm. Fawcett was awarded a Bronze Star for his actions. At Langley Air Force Base in Virginia, Jay served on the staff of the Deputy Commander for Operations of Air Combat Command. In 1998, after serving his country in combat and during the Cold War, Lt Col Fawcett retired from the Air Force and began working as a defense contractor including support of US Northern Command at Peterson Air Force Base.

Fawcett’s broad appeal – his military background and small business experience – cuts across traditional political boundaries. He has been endorsed by individuals and organizations that represent the needs and wishes of the people of CD-5, including the former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the former Supreme Allied Commander; The Retired Enlisted Association Senior Citizens League, VETPAC, organized labor and a number of leading Republicans in CD-5.

"The 2009 BioWest Conference is shaping up to be an outstanding event that will provide insight and perspective to companies and leaders in the bioscience industry," Collar explains, "With the last year being difficult for any business, BioWest will be discussing how companies can set themselves apart from the crowd and how we can develop strong leaders and entrepreneurs in order to grow the bioscience industry within the state."

More information follows about the national speakers confirmed for BioWest 2009:

The conference will also include an inside look at the Colorado economy and economic development from both Don Elliman, Chief Operating Officer for Colorado, and Don Marostica, Director of the Office of Economic Development and International Trade. With the economic situation, BioWest will allow companies and bioscience leaders understand the investment world a bit more through an expert panel discussing investor relations and the art of creating valuable relationships. Then, taking a deeper look into the investor relationship, three companies will present their "investor pitch" followed by a group of experts who will explain what key elements investors look for in a pitch.

Earlier stage technologies will be showcased at the Technology Transfer Poster Reception on the evening of November 10. Researchers from the region's top institutions will be on hand with scientific poster presentations to discuss their bioscience discoveries. Following the reception will be the CBSA Annual Awards Dinner where the bioscience industry celebrates the "Best of the Best' and recognizes industry leaders and supporters.

In addition to formal presentations, productive networking among attendees will occur at this year's BioWest Expo, featuring 50 bioscience suppliers whose exhibits will fill the hallways with services and products to help the region's companies succeed and grow.

IMMAP Enters Lebanon Crisis

IMMAP Enters Lebanon Crisis

Two specialists deploy to improve conditions and help aid distribution.

Washington, D. C. (PRWEB) August 2, 2006

The Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation's (VVAF) Information Management and Mine Action Programs (iMMAP) deployed specialists into the war-ravaged Lebanon this weekend to assist relief operations struggling to distribute food and medical supplies throughout the country.

"Food and medical supplies are worthless unless they are delivered to those in need," said VVAF Vice-President of Programs Joe Donahue. "The air strikes have damaged main roads and forced thousands from their homes. Our specialists improve the capacity of relief agencies to plot safe transportation routes to put food and supplies into people's hands."

With the help of a grant from the Office of Weapons Removal and Abatement, U. S. Department of State, iMMAP's information management specialists are supporting the United Nations Joint Logistics Center (UNJLC) as they monitor road and infrastructure conditions, and the impact of landmine and unexploded ordnance contamination, to ensure safe transport of food and health supplies to the more than 800,000 Lebanese currently displaced. Many citizens have been without water or fresh food since the Israeli air strikes began two weeks ago.

Several news outlets, including Reuters Alertnet, recently reported the most urgent problem in Lebanon is the lack of safe passage to deliver humanitarian aid. The U. S. Department of State, which approved a $30,000 grant to iMMAP for this emergency project, also reported on July 25 that agencies like the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has supplies for more than 20,000 people waiting at the Syrian border they are unable to distribute. Transportation through Lebanon is difficult as a result of the bombing of main roads, as well as the sizeable mountain ranges that cover much of the country.

Stationed in Lebanon for a period of two months, iMMAP's specialists will improve aid distribution by coordinating safe passage routes and identifying and assessing the overall impact of Explosive Remnants of War (ERW) and aerial strike damage. A leader in establishing standardized data collection procedures, iMMAP will monitor road conditions as well as design road, port and airport condition logistical maps.

Already a high contamination of cluster bombs has been located in the southern region of Lebanon, which will have a serious impact on the deteriorating conditions. Lebanon also remains heavily contaminated with landmines and ERW left over from the 1975-1990 civil war.

About iMMAP

IMMAP conducts, directs and supports humanitarian information management activities and landmine impact and unexploded ordnance (UXO) surveys in dynamic settings, including developing countries, humanitarian crises, and natural disasters. iMMAP played a vital role in the response to both the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, and the 2005 Pakistan earthquake. In 2005 iMMAP completed a survey of landmine contamination in Iraq, interviewing more than 12,000 communities.

Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation (VVAF) is an international humanitarian organization that addresses the causes, conduct and consequences of war through programs of advocacy and service for victims of conflict. Spa Body Wrap & Bath Therapy Recipes Revealed

Spa Body Wrap & Bath Therapy Recipes Revealed

Danielle Sims adds a new addition to the updated second edition of Wrap Yourself Slim: Body Wraps Exposed, a Bath Therapy Report. This book has been available online since October 2000 and has been very popular among health enthusiasts and "do-it-yourselfers".

(PRWEB) December 26, 2004

Danielle Sims released the updated second edition of Wrap Yourself Slim: Body Wraps Exposed in the Winter of 2003. This book has been available online since October 2000 and has been very popular among health enthusiasts and "do-it-yourselfers". Now She includes a special bonus report which details Therapuetic Bath Recipes for those who do not have time for a body wrap.

Almost ten years ago, Danielle explored her library of alternative health, herbal books, and aromatherapy books and created a blueprint for making her own body wrap formulas. She discovered that some of the natural supplements on the market possessed the same benefits as the body wrap formulas.

Danielle describes her experience:

"I lost 21' inches and felt great after the wrap. It was something special I wanted to treat myself to at the time. The spa technician described packages I could take advantage of. The packages were way out of my price range. I wanted more wraps but I didn't want to pay the hefty price"

Body wraps have been offered for years by health spas, fitness spas and franchised facilities. Some reported spending as much as $100 for this treatment. After a wrap, spa clients have reported that their skin felt softer, their skin felt tighter, experienced a diminished appearance of cellulite and even a loss of inches.

Results varied for each person.

"Body wrap companies in the past have kept wrap formulas secret. They have certain mysticism to this wonderful treatment. I have always enjoyed creating and preparing my own cosmetics, lotions, and potions so this was just one more thing that I wanted to learn how to do. It was years before I realized that I can provide others with information to make their own body wrap too." says Danielle.

Wrap Yourself Slim gives detailed information on the body wrap process as well as giving the reader recipes or "formulas" for making them at home. This book describes the readily available natural ingredients that are used in these body wrap formulas. It contains a quick reference chart that lists each ingredient and charts their properties related to body wrap benefits.

The reference section of the book contains contact information for discount ingredient suppliers. However, since the ingredients consist of mostly herbal, essential oils and supplemental products, most of them can be obtained at health food stores and in some cases drug stores.

The addition of the Bath Therapy report provides you with the option of doing a body wrap or taking a bath. The baths can also be incorporated in your body wrap program to help increase results.

The book is only available via the internet as an electronic book. Two easy to read formats are available; PDF and an executable webpage

Version. This format allows instant access after purchase. The reader is able to print the book or read it on their computer. You can find out more information on Wrap Yourself Slim: Body Wraps Exposed at http://www. wrapyourselfslim. com (http://www. wrapyourselfslim. com).

Danielle has also made a "try before you buy" limited demo version of her ebook. The free demo of the book is available for download at http://www. wrapyorselfslim. com (http://www. wrapyorselfslim. com) after filing out a brief survey.

Faced with Recession, Hospitals Innovate to Reduce Equipment Costs

Faced with Recession, Hospitals Innovate to Reduce Equipment Costs

U. S. Healthcare Facilities Reduce Equipment Purchase Costs with New Business Model from Texas Firm MEMdata

College Station, TX (PRWEB) July 1, 2009

As lawmakers and the Obama administration debate how to pay for national health reform, U. S. hospitals are not waiting for the outcome to reform their bottom lines. Many hospital executives are enacting comprehensive expense reviews and cost reduction measures to ensure they are prepared for the new economy.

Texas based MEMdata, a performance-based equipment procurement firm that claims to reduce hospital equipment costs by as much as 18%, today announced that new hospital client signings were on a significant upswing.

"We are experiencing a dramatic increase in the number of hospitals seeking to reduce the cost of new equipment," said MEMdata CEO Bob Yancy. "While the nation struggles with the issue of healthcare costs, it's gratifying to play an increasingly pivotal role in the cost reduction process."

According to MEMdata, hospitals spend approximately $35 billion annually to purchase new medical technologies and other equipment necessary to care for patients and operate facilities. Before MEMdata, traditional procurement methods involved buying equipment through a commodities contracting process managed by hospital Group Purchasing Organizations, or GPOs. In contrast, MEMdata uses a competitive bidding process utilizing an electronic platform. The process is called electronic Request For Proposal, or eRFP, which MEMdata claims reduces equipment purchase prices dramatically.

"Whether through GPOs or government procurement contracts, the old method of contracting was designed for repeat scheduled purchases of supplies and consummables, as opposed to capital equipment," says Yancy. "Capital equipment investments are unique and happen sporadically, and require a unique approach to ensure competitive pricing for our hospitals."

To achieve best-in-class pricing for it's hospital clients, MEMdata's equipment purchase process calls for increased focus on transacting, rather than contracting. Yancy explains. "Consumers wouldn't sign a five year contract with a local car dealership which establishes prices and limits the brand they can buy, yet that is what has been happening in healthcare for years. This limits hospital access to discounts that occur as a result of competition, new technology, special promotions, and economic downturns like the one we're in now."

MEMdata's eRFP electronic bidding process yields millions of dollars in savings for hospitals each year for assets ranging from CT scanners and MRI machines to commercial kitchen equipment for hospital cafeterias. In June of 2009 for just one New Jersey hospital client, the process achieved $43,218 in cost reduction on the purchase of anesthesia machines and over $280,715 in savings on the purchase of a CT scanner, both of which were originally contract prices.

Despite the difference in approach, MEMdata's process seamlessly integrates with any hospital GPO, and the company supports hospital GPO memberships, if the client prefers, by ensuring equipment is purchased on GPO contract but at prices dramatically lower than the published GPO contract prices.

"Group purchasing has perhaps played a valuable role with supplies and consummables for years, but equipment is a different story," says Yancy. "The contracting method maybe does a good job for supplies, but relative to equipment purchases our hospitals need the best pricing they can get. Our future depends on it."

MEMdata is based in College Station, Texas and provides best-in-class pricing on hospital equipment for over 500 medical facilities nationally. MEMdata services are performance-based, with MEMdata's fees guaranteed to be offset by savings achieved. Coalition of 100 Black Women, Orange County Chapter, Names Identity Crisis as Marketing Firm of Choice

Coalition of 100 Black Women, Orange County Chapter, Names Identity Crisis as Marketing Firm of Choice

Identity Crisis was chosen by the Coalition to create a distinct presence for the local chapter of the national organization, while also assisting them to recruit a diversity of members to the organization.

Anaheim, CA (PRWEB) September 26, 2007

The Coalition of 100 Black Women's Orange County Chapter has named Identity Crisis as its marketing firm of choice. Identity Crisis will assist in creating a presence for the Coalition in the region and develop an identity that is complementary, yet distinct from the national organization by creating a new logo, website and marketing materials for the non profit.

The Coalition specifically chose Identity Crisis from other firms because of its unique ideas, quality product and interest in working with the organization to help it achieve its goals, said Marlene Dyce, president of the Orange County Chapter.

"Identity Crisis came highly recommended, yet it was their dynamic nature and receptiveness to work with a minority organization without hesitation that really impressed us," explained Dyce. "The type of projects they had worked on in the past were quality products, compared to what other firms had presented to us. It was a marketing no-brainer."

The Coalition is part of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, formed in 1971 to address family, community and personal issues faced by African-American women. According to Dyce, the Coalition has expanded to include advocacy of education, finance health and wellness in the community.

In Orange County, the group is also looking to recruit members of different backgrounds, ethnic or otherwise, that are willing to advocate positive change. Dyce says the managing partners of Identity Crisis, Tom Underhill, David Moyle and Andy Pomeroy, personify the characteristics of the membership the organization wants to attract and feels this will be incorporated into the materials they produce.

"This type of project is exactly the kind that we seek to attain at Identity Crisis," said Moyle, who has already begun producing a new logo for the chapter. "The Coalition has been very receptive in allowing us to create an image that is their own. Our goal is to capture the dynamic and modern nature of today's woman, while still incorporating the change and advocacy that the organization is known for."

About Identity Crisis
Considered by its clients as their "in-house branding and marketing department at the fraction of a cost," Identity Crisis is a full-service marketing agency known for its ability to produce quality campaigns that are well-researched, effective and geared to meet specific goals. Its four principals, David Moyle, Tom Underhill and Andy Pomeroy have more than 60 years of combined experience in marketing and market development, design, branding, project management and technology. It also has photography, printing and binding capabilities, which allow it to create and implement campaigns in-house and ensure the integrity of its projects.

New Autobiography Features Recollections & Reflections of a Spirit-Filled Life

God's Brat is part autobiography/part collection of heartfelt, often humorous, and sometimes sobering stories, poetry, and observations from one who has lived a life serving others. Sister Kathryn Leahy, now "eighty-eight years young," takes readers on a wonderful journey that is a true slice of Americana--from her days as a Nebraska farm kid and her call to be a nun at the age of sixteen, to her work as a teacher and, in her most recent years, as a writer and minister to the elderly.

Denver, CO and, Alliance, NE (PRWEB) August 2, 2007 -

God's Brat is part autobiography/part collection of heartfelt, often humorous, and sometimes sobering stories, poetry, and observations from one who has lived a life serving others. Sister Kathryn Leahy, now "eighty-eight years young," takes readers on a wonderful journey that is a true slice of Americana--from her days as a Nebraska farm kid and her call to be a nun at the age of sixteen, to her work as a teacher and, in her most recent years, as a writer and minister to the elderly.

Though the title, God's Brat, may seem an unusual choice for Sister Kathryn's opus, she is quick to point out: "I was a self-willed, stubborn, quick tempered, selfish and proud brat who tried my family's patience. With God's help and the goodness of my family and others, I was able to overcome, to an extent, the force of these bad traits, which will be uprooted only at death. God chose me to do His work in spite of my 'brattiness.'" God's Brat shows just how she conquered her "ornery" self to become a woman who serves with a grateful heart and a compassionate spirit.

Thirty-five years ago Sister Kathryn discovered a passion for writing, finding that, especially during times of quietude and prayer, words flowed easily from her pen. Here is a poem titled Inspiration, which was written during a stay in Cold Creek Canyon, Colorado, in 1992:
"Strong, sturdy pine, swaying tall in brisk wind,
Are you exercising for warmth?
Un-threatened by restless, gloomy clouds above,
Your strong healthy branches
Flow gracefully from sturdy, enduring trunk.
Your companions of motley sizes and shades of green
Sway in unison with you.
Could you be their mentor, inspiration, confidant...
As you are to me this day?
PLUNK!! Your pine cone lands at my feet...
A prompt and sacred reply!"

Praise for God's Brat -
"Since His call when Catherine Elizabeth Leahy was sixteen, 'God's brat' has been touching the lives of exuberant students, incarcerated women, and disabled oldsters…. Fortunately for us, her stories of the happy, the sad, the sentimental, and the curious are hereby gathered for our reading pleasure…. Relish her shared exuberance, bathed in hope and humor and wonder.

Born near Ewing in Northeastern Nebraska, just a few years before the Great Depression, Kathryn Leahy followed the Lord's call to the Sisters of St. Francis. After two years of novitiate training and three years of normal school training, her first assignment was teaching at St. Agnes Academy in Alliance, Nebraska. Subsequent assignments as teacher, administrator and minister to the elderly took her to Rushville, O'Neill and Grand Island, Nebraska; Denver, Colorado; St. Francis, South Dakota, and Birmingham, Alabama. During those years she earned BA and MA degrees in education. Her two years of theology study in Rome occurred during the time of Vatican II, the death of Pope John XXIII, and the coronation of Pope Paul VI. Though she is officially "retired," she continues her writing and her work of serving others through prayer

Acupuncture is often associated with pain control, but, in the hands of a well trained practitioner, it can influence overall health and well being, prevention of illness, and treatment of various medical conditions.

College Students Need More Than Classroom Smarts to Succeed

College Students Need More Than Classroom Smarts to Succeed

In his book, How to Create a Magical College Life, author and motivational speaker Morris Taylor says students need much more than good grades in order to succeed in a college environment. According to Taylor, many students drop out of college not because they weren’t smart enough or couldn’t do the work, but because they couldn’t organize their lives and their priorities to handle the variety of challenges that come with making the transition from high to college.

Round Lake Heights, IL (PRWEB) July 13, 2006

In How to Create a Magical College Life, author Morris Taylor challenges high school students to spend as much time thinking about how they plan to succeed in college as they do deciding what school to attend.

“Most students fail not because they chose the wrong school, but because they aren’t prepared to handle the challenges that come with making the mental transition from high school to college,” says Taylor, a motivational speaker.

In his book, subtitled 25 Strategies for Better Grades, Healthier Relationships and Super Self-Confidence, Taylor stresses the importance of being responsible, setting personal goals, having the right attitude, learning public speaking skills and even consciously inviting racial and cultural diversity into your life.

“Lots of students drop out of college not because they weren’t smart enough or couldn’t do the work,” he says, “but because they couldn’t organize their lives and their priorities to deal with the academic and social pressures of college.”

In doing research for How to Create a Magical College Life, Taylor found that many high school students enter college with a lot of emotional baggage and bad habits.

“Many of them never had to exercise self-discipline in high school,” he says. “They’ve never set and achieved meaningful goals, can’t manage their money, and have no idea how big a difference networking with the right people can make.”

He says students also face pressure to become “some sort of smooth and confident social butterfly, virtually overnight. I want them to know that these are life skills critical to their college success. The good news is that these skills are relatively easy to learn once you understand how important they are and how they can benefit you.”

Dr. Jena Khodadad, a faculty member of Rush Medical College at Rush University in Chicago, says Taylor’s book. “asks probing questions, provides meaningful analysis and offers insightful observations and stories. You can apply his advice to all stages of life. This is a book I plan to keep on my shelf together with my volumes on science and medicine.” Khodadad says she plans to recommend Taylor’s book to her medical students.

Taylor has written five other books and is a popular trainer and college lecturer. He is the owner and president of Talisman Training Associates LLC, which specializes in leadership and communication skills training for businesses and educational institutions.

Top Corporate Recruiting Websites Named in New WetFeet Report

Top Corporate Recruiting Websites Named in New WetFeet Report

Website Experience Dramatically Influences Candidate Employment Choices, Report Finds

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) June 18, 2005

While employer websites used to be a convenient backup source of information for candidates, todayÂ’s websites have evolved into the central tool in the recruiting process, according to a new report by WetFeet, Inc.

“Corporate Recruiting Websites 2005: Guidelines for Building a Top Site” is the first comprehensive report based on actual focus groups with dozens of entry-level and experienced job seekers who analyzed top-rated corporate websites. The findings explore the needs of job seekers who visit websites, the impact of specific site features on candidate interest, and the tactics used by the highest-ranked websites.

Goldman Sachs received the top rating for the best employer recruiting website; Boston Consulting Group was second; and Bain & Co. was rated third. Others in the Top 10 included: 4) McKinsey & Co.; 5) IBM; 6) Microsoft; 7) General Electric; 8) Citigroup; 9) JP Morgan Chase; and 10) Procter & Gamble.

“Today company recruiting websites dramatically influence candidate perceptions of and interest in employers,” said Steve Pollock, president of WetFeet Inc. and author of the study. “This report is designed to help companies turn their site into a top performer based on input from the real experts – actual candidates.”

Participants were asked to rate the sites in four key areas: navigation, branding, content and functionality. Among some of the compelling findings:

Recruiting Websites Strongly Influence Candidate Applications

A visit to a companyÂ’s website is one of the very first steps as a candidate considers whether or not to pursue employment. Websites have the power to draw candidates in or cause them to turn toward competitors. Top sites offer a recruiting section that is easy to find and use, and contains candid information that allows candidates to find appropriate opportunities and assess their fit.

“If the website is not impressive, you start to rethink why you thought you’d be interested in this company in the first place,” said one focus group participant. “The website is one face of the company, and first impressions do matter.”

Faulty Online Application Process is the Most Frequent Critical Flaw

The online application process is viewed as a necessary yet aggravating function of the recruiting website for candidates who have decided to pursue employment. Surprisingly few companies offer systems that are designed to meet candidate needs. Candidates have little trust that their applications will be reviewed and rarely get confirmation that they were even received. Top sites have applications that take 5-10 minutes to complete, low error rates, and set candidate expectations with regard to follow-up.

“I couldn’t complete the application process,” said one participant. “It had too many confusing things. It took more than three minutes to load. I had no confidence in the process.”

Content Should Be Organized Around Candidate Needs

The information and how it is presented have a strong impact on candidate interest in the firm; candidates consider the website as a direct indication of the firmÂ’s culture. Undergraduates, MBAÂ’s and experienced job seekers all see themselves as having unique needs for information. Top-performing sites package the right information for each audience, make it very easy to find and use, and communicate an honest interest in the job seeker through the tone and candor of the site.

“The best websites are those that give a strong image of the company, get me information for the interviews, describe their business style, and answer all of the extra questions I might have,” said one participant.

In addition to presenting the results from the focus groups, the WetFeet report provides detailed case studies from the top-rated sites along with recommendations for how companies can integrate best practices to evolve their recruiting websites.

Treefrog Veneer gives 1% For The Planet

Treefrog Veneer gives 1% For The Planet.

Treefrog Veneer joins alliance of environmentally-minded organizations to promote a healthy planet.

Easthampton, MA (PRWEB) June 10, 2006

Treefrog Veneer, a supplier of real wood veneer laminates, has become a member of 1% For The Planet (1% FTP), an alliance of companies that donate at least 1% of their annual sales to environmental organizations worldwide.

“Contributing to the health and welfare of our planet makes good business sense to us,” says Treefrog Creative Director/VP Geoff Schaefer.

Treefrog Veneer, located in Easthampton, MA, contributes to environmental organizations that work to protect treefrog habitats worldwide as well as environmental organizations that work within Treefrog Veneer’s regional watershed.

“Considering the complex environmental challenges we face, and the effects business in general has on the environment, joining 1% For The Planet is a simple and tangible way for Treefrog Veneer to be part of the solution,” says Schaefer.

Member businesses of 1% For The Planet donate 1% of their annual sales revenue to any of the hundreds of environmental organizations that have met 1% FTP’s criteria. These organizations have proven they are legitimate and effective forces working to foster environmental health.

1% FTP certifies that its over 200 member companies have contributed at least 1% of net revenues and provides the use of the 1% For The Planet logo on member’s products and materials.

Treefrog Veneer offers a complete selection of 35 real wood veneer laminates in traditional and exotic straight grains, crowns, birdseyes and burls. It is ideal for use in interior design, hospitality, retail, corporate, set design, entertainment and furniture projects. The veneers are manufactured in Italy, a country long heralded for

Craftsmanship and, more recently, for environmental commitment, and distributed throughout the United States under the Treefrog Veneer name. The veneers feature composite wood technology, a process that is able to create the look and feel of exotic tree species, without harvesting these oftentimes rare species.

Instead, Treefrog Veneer is produced through sustainable forestry, utilizing SGS-certified plantation grown Italian Poplar, which guarantees it is an ecological product, and West African Ayous, managed in a forestry plan to achieve the lowest possible impact on the environment. The rights and welfare of local people are respected as well.

Treefrog’s facility in Easthampton, MA has instituted practices to minimize its impact on the planet. Additionally, both manufacturing and administrative departments strive to reduce, recycle & reuse materials on a daily basis.

1% For The Planet was launched in 2001 by Yvon Choinard, founder of Patagonia, Inc., a clothing manufacturer and retailer, and Craig Mathews, owner of Blue Ribbon Flies. 1% FTP is active in the United States, Canada, Europe and Japan.

County Mortgages Makes £1m Profit

County Mortgages Makes £1m Profit

Latest results posted.

(PRWEB) July 7, 2006

County Mortgage Group, the mortgage and loan group, has announced a huge leap in pre-tax profit for the year ending September 2005 of just over 350%.

The business, which operates under the brands mortgageandloans. co. uk, c2-financial and c2-secured from its head office in Fareham, Hampshire, posted profits of £1.1 million during the 12-month period. The result is a spectacular improvement on the pre-tax profit of just over £300,000 that it reported for 2004.

County specialises in finding mortgages and loans for customers who have experienced difficulty obtaining finance and, in particular, arranges self-certification mortgages and finance for customers with poor credit records.

David Wylie, Managing Director, said: “The increased profitability has been achieved as a result of tight controls on expenditure, improved efficiencies through information technology and a stronger than expected performance from the company’s residential secured second loan business, c2-secured.”

The news follows recent changes to the corporate structure at c2-financial which saw former Managing Director David Wylie move to the position of Group Chairman to be replaced by the former Sales & Operations Director Justin Caffrey.

David Wylie said: “We are absolutely delighted with the strong financial performance of the group, particularly in light of the fact that the growth has continued under regulation of the mortgage market. The strategies we have adopted, along with our enviable service standard, are clearly winning us market share thus contributing to our healthy bottom line.”

Justin Caffrey added: “We are almost at the end of Q3 of our financial year and I confidently predict that we will see our profits double during 2006, based on our performance year-to-date.”

World Natural Gas Vehicles Market to Reach 19.14 Million Units by 2012, According to New Report by Global Industry Analysts

World Natural Gas Vehicles Market to Reach 19.14 Million Units by 2012, According to New Report by Global Industry Analysts

Driven by growing concerns over environmental pollution, and the unrelenting hikes in fossil fuel prices, world natural gas vehicle population is projected to reach 19.14 million units by the year 2012. Evolving breakthroughs in innovative technologies for alternative fuels, and the stringent environmental regulations on vehicle emissions, are expected to emerge into the two major factors driving the market's growth in the medium to long run.

San Jose, CA (PRWEB) October 27, 2008

Growth in the world natural gas vehicles (NGVs) market (http://www. strategyr. com/Natural_Gas_Vehicles_Market_Report. asp) stems from rising concern for the environment, public health, sky rocketing fossil fuel prices, and the need to attain national self-sufficiency in meeting energy requirements. With several countries encouraging migration from conventional vehicles to alternative fueled vehicles, there exists ample opportunities for growth in this market. The number of NGVs actually plying on the roads is the highest in Latin America. Technology developments and engineering breakthroughs in clean fuel vehicles are together helping NGVs gain deeper market penetration and widespread market acceptance. As NGVs move up the technology lifecycle, prices and costs are expected to soften, making them more affordable over diesel vehicles.

By the year 2010, NGVs are expected to competitively compete with their diesel counterparts. The establishment of chain refueling stations, and development of refueling infrastructure in most markets additionally strengthens the business case for NGVs by allowing for easy accessibility to refueling stations. Developing countries are expected to offer business opportunities on a platter, given their acute need to gain more energy independence, and reduce expensive imports of natural gas supplies, and improve trade balances.

As stated by the recent report published by Global Industry Analysts, Inc., world natural gas vehicles market is dominated by Latin America, and Asia-Pacific, with a combined share for over 76.3 % in the year 2008. In addition to these two large markets, growth is expected to stem from Japan, with projected CAGR in excess of 16% over the period 2001 through 2010. Natural gas vehicle population in Japan is expected to reach 50,597 units by 2012. In Europe, Italy ranks as the single largest market, collaring over 36% of the market in the year 2008, while Germany, Spain, and Russia are expected to post strong growth patterns with CAGRs ranging between 23% to 34% over the aforementioned analysis period.

In Latin America, Brazil is the fastest growing, with overall natural gas vehicle population projected to reach 2,344 thousand units by the year 2012. In Asia-Pacific, Pakistan, and India are the two dominant markets, with combined NGV population projected to rise by 15.7% between the period 2008 to 2012.

Leading global, and regional players operating in the industry include Caterpillar Incorporated, Cummins Inc, Daimler AG, Ford Motor Company, General Motors Corporation, Honda Motor Co, Hyundai Motor Company, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, Nissan Motor Co Ltd, PSA Peugeot Citroën S. A, Alternative Fuel Systems Incorporated, and Bayerische Motoren Werke AG, among others.

The report titled "Natural Gas Vehicles: A Global Strategic Business Report" published by Global Industry Analysts, Inc., provides a comprehensive review of market trends, drivers, issues, and challenges. Richly annotated with authoritative, and unbiased commentaries, and hard-to-find statistical facts, the report provides unequivocal views on future potential while throwing light on the prevailing climate in key regional markets. Latent demand patterns for Natural Gas Vehicles are quantified across major geographic market verticals including the United States, Canada, Japan, France, Germany, United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, Russia, Pakistan, India, China, New Zealand, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Indonesia, Australia, Argentina, Brazil, Venezuela, Colombia, Chile, and Mexico, among others. Also provided in the report is an enumeration of recent mergers, acquisitions, and other strategic industry activities.

Are Primary Care Physicians Unsung Heroes?

Are Primary Care Physicians Unsung Heroes?

Health Care Reform Spurs Optimism among Some Physicians

Alpharetta, GA (Vocus) September 15, 2010

Primary care doctors are the true gatekeepers to the U. S. health care system, but how much their services are valued vis-à-vis other medical specialists is open to discussion, according to an article appearing in the newly revised Jackson & Coker Industry Report.

“There’s no doubt that family medicine physicians are the linchpin of health care delivery in the United States, as they initially treat patients who are often referred to other physicians for specialized medical care,” mentioned Gary Belancik, Vice President of Primary Care for Atlanta-based recruitment firm Jackson & Coker.

“In terms of compensation for services rendered, though, primary care providers lag behind other colleagues in the medical profession. Often, the perception is that primary care providers are over-worked and under-appreciated. Hopefully, the situation will change with the onset of health care reform,” Mr. Belancik explained.

These and similar matters are discussed in a JCIR special report entitled “What’s in the Future for Primary Care Physicians?—Maybe a Surprise.” The report begins by discussing primary care as the medical specialty that apparently “gets no respect,” with providers facing economic and professional pressure pursuing what those outside the profession sometimes label as a “dead end” career. The fact that major research grants are funneled into other specialties limits fellowship opportunities and further curtails practitioners’ earning potential.

The article takes a look at other factors facing primary care physicians: job dissatisfaction, burnout, dramatic increase in nonclinical paperwork, and a dramatic decrease in reimbursable income. As a result, according to some studies, nearly half of family medicine physicians contemplate significantly reducing their patient loads, leaving the profession, or retiring early.

The special report points out a bright side to the situation. For one thing, the option of working locum tenens assignments is particularly attractive to some primary care doctors. Being able to travel to different locations--while earning a decent income, but not being burdened by the details of practice management—is particularly appealing to physicians drawn to the locum lifestyle.

Another ray of hope involves the passage of health care reform. Certain provisions call for special loan forgiveness for primary care doctors working in underserved areas, as well as new funding for “teaching health centers”—i. e., residency programs set in community health centers or other non-hospital clinical settings. Also, doctors who make a five-year commitment to such service are eligible for a special bonus, the report notes.

Furthermore, as many more patients are brought into the health system, the wider adoption of patient-centered medical homes should result in the services of primary care doctors being considered more valuable and matched by higher compensation.

Obviously, many details for health care reform remain to be worked out. Yet some primary care doctors are optimistic that their specialty will be “redefined,” affording them greater professional respect and increased earning potential.

“It would seem that for too long, primary care doctors have been taken for granted by many patients, other caregivers and payers,” Mr. Belancik remarked. “Certainly these ‘unsung heroes’ deserve recognition for being the ‘burden bearers’ at the entry point of patient care. What would we do without them?”

The completely revamped Jackson & Coker Industry Report has increased functionality, including a search engine, share functions including major social media outlets, and an RSS feed. A list of the most viewed and most commented on articles is now available, to help readers stay abreast of the latest hot topics. The new design greatly simplifies navigation within the newsletter and access to other Jackson & Coker resources. Here is the link to the JCIR special report: http://www. jacksoncoker. com/physician-career-resources/newsletters/monthlymain/des/PrimaryCare. aspx.
