Time Management Master Offers Consumers Tips for Improving Time Management Abilities

Time Management Master Offers Consumers Tips for Improving Time Management Abilities

Consumers looking to improve their time management abilities can get help in a new video and an accompanying tip sheet from motivational speaker and allergy cookbook author, Lisa A. Lundy, which you can download free from her website.

Buffalo, N. Y. (Vocus) August 4, 2009

A 2008 American Time Use Survey (http://www. bls. gov/tus/) released in June 2009 in the form of a 24-page report by the U. S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics calculates and summarizes how average citizens spend their time divided into precisely defined categories including personal care (which includes sleeping), work, educational, organizational, eating and drinking, shopping, caring for children or family members, leisure and sports, telephone calls, mail and e-mail, and other activities not otherwise classified - all broken down to the tenth of an hour.

The Wall Street Journal reported in March 1997 that the average U. S. executive wastes 6 weeks per year searching for misplaced information from messy desks and files, which translates to nearly 1 hour per day. Consumers looking for tips on how to use their time better can now find help in the form of a new video and tip sheet offered by motivational speaker and time management expert, Lisa A. Lundy, which you can download for free from her website http://www. TheSuperAllergyCookbook. com (http://www. TheSuperAllergyCookbook. com). Ms. Lundy has been known for her impeccable and extraordinary time management skills since before her days as an undergraduate at Penn State University where received her Bachelor of Science in Marketing. While at Penn State Lundy was on the LaVie yearbook staff, helped to found a chapter of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority, was a Resident Assistant for three consecutive years, and held a leadership position on the Panhellenic Council and in Parmi Nous Honor society all in addition to a part time job working at the Deli off campus.

Professionals who visit Lundy's website and review her biography, blog and other aspects of what she is up to often assume that she must get little to no sleep when in fact the reverse is true. "People assume that I get very little sleep because they can't imagine how I get so much done," said Lundy. "The truth is that I am extremely organized and I have complete mastery in the area of time management. My time management and organizational skills were one of the things that I was teased about at Penn State. Anyone can improve this skill set if they are willing to take it on."

Lundy's book, The Super Allergy Girl™ Allergy & Celiac Cookbook - From A Mother Who Knows™, a gluten-free, dairy-free, egg-free, peanut free, tree nut free and other allergen free cookbook is another example of time efficiency and productivity. Her book was written and published, all 408 pages of it, in the space of just 9 months. It has received lavish praise from consumers and medical practitioners alike for the usefulness of the information as well as the delicious foods that it produces. In a time when the economy has tanked and people are suffering, worried and feeling down, Lundy hopes that she can be a bright light to inspire others in difficult times.

She and her husband, Randy Garrett, have weathered the emotional strain of having a child with life-threatening health issues coupled with the financial drain of uncovered medical bills. They are among the 83.3% of Americans who do have health insurance, however their health plan was allowed to deny their daughter's life saving medical treatments and offer no alternative medical treatment. "We have spent over $100,000 in out-of-pocket medical bills to keep Anne alive. She is now 7-1/2 years old and doing unbelievably well. She will be completely well in the next year or so," asserted Lundy. "People who watch the FOX 5 NYC news story from May 2006, realize that while they have hardships, it could be worse."

In addition to having a penchant for great tasting foods without the gluten, dairy. eggs and other food allergens that her children require, Lundy is passionate about helping people. Her content rich web site contains free white papers, tip sheets, videos and recipes to help empower consumers and educators. Her book is available at http://www. Colorado Family Volunteers, Changing Lives in Africa

Colorado Family Volunteers, Changing Lives in Africa

Today, on National Family Volunteer Day, Mercy Ships would like to recognize the Palmer family as a remarkable example of a volunteer family who has sacrificed much to help those who have very little.

Garden Valley, Texas (Vocus) November 16, 2010

Did you know that volunteering has benefits far beyond what you can imagine? “The Health Benefits of Volunteering: A Review of Recent Research” is a study done by the Corporation for National and Community Service. The research found a significant connection between volunteering and good health. The report shows that volunteers have greater longevity, higher functional ability, lower rates of depression and less incidence of heart disease. This is superb news for Mercy Ships, an organization that operates a hospital ship staffed with a volunteer crew.

One Mercy Ships family from Montrose, Colorado, is definitely reaping these benefits. Donovan Palmer, his wife Mae, and their three children live and volunteer together in West Africa. Their home is the Africa Mercy, a hospital ship that provides free medical care to the forgotten poor. Today, on National Family Volunteer Day, Mercy Ships would like to recognize the Palmer family as a remarkable example of a volunteer family who has sacrificed much to help those who have very little.

Mercy Ships brings hope and healing to some of the poorest countries in the world. Volunteer crew members work together to provide life-changing surgeries, surgical training, and infrastructure development to West African countries. These free services are offered without regard to a patient’s age, ethnicity or religion.

Donovan Palmer has the monumental job of managing the day-to-day operations of the ship – a job that, despite its pressures, is extremely rewarding. He truly is the face of Mercy Ships when the vessel is in port, interacting with dignitaries and government officials by giving tours and hosting events. Why did he accept such a demanding job? He explains, “I accepted the position as Managing Director because Mae and I love to help the poor and needy.”

The Palmers were involved with Mercy Ships in Newcastle, UK when the organization acquired the Africa Mercy and converted it from a Danish rail ferry into a state-of-the-art hospital ship. Then they spent five years with Youth with a Mission in the United Kingdom before re-joining Mercy Ships.

Donovan and Mae are a husband/wife team in every way. Mae serves as her husband’s executive assistant. She runs his office and provides invaluable skills helping Donovan lead a multi-cultural community representing more than 30 nations onboard the ship.

Volunteering is absolutely a family affair for the Palmers. They have made a life out of serving the poor, which included making the decision to raise their children abroad. The kids attend school at the accredited Academy housed on the ship. Though the family is far away from home, Palmer notes that his children have “made many wonderful memories and have enjoyed being in West Africa experiencing other cultures.” Undoubtedly, they are receiving an invaluable multicultural education, both on and off the ship.

Volunteering comes in many forms. Not all of us can uproot our lives to move to Africa, but we can find a way to help others. Mercy Ships offers many ways to get involved. They offer short-term mission trips to impoverished countries across the world. You can also help through financial gifts and prayer. You can even get your church family involved in the Mercy Ships Anchor Church program.

On this Family Volunteer Day take your spouse, parent, sibling, son or daughter by the hand – and together find a way to show mercy to someone in need. The rewards and benefits will far outweigh the effort or cost.

Take a virtual tour of our hospital ship and get a glimpse into what life is like onboard!

ABOUT NATIONAL FAMILY VOLUNTEER DAY: This annual day of service, held the Saturday before Thanksgiving, is designed to demonstrate the power of families who choose to volunteer together to support the communities in which they live and serve. Each year Mercy Ships has over 1,200 volunteers from over 40 nations. Professionals including surgeons, dentists, nurses, health care trainers, teachers, cooks, seamen, engineers, and agriculturalists donate their time and skills to the effort. Mercy Ships seeks to become the face of love in action, bringing hope and healing to the poor. For more information click on http://www. mercyships. org

Doctor Building Nutritarian Army to Fight Disease

Doctor Building Nutritarian Army to Fight Disease

Celebrities sing Dr. Fuhrman’s praises for helping them stay fit and trim, but this physician is determined to arm all Americans with not only the best weapon for battling weight struggles but also for fighting off chronic illnesses like heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and others. He has helped countless individuals make dramatic health recoveries through his unique high-nutrient dietary approach each saving thousands of dollars on medications. Dr. Fuhrman’s scientific discovery contributing to this success is that micronutrient adequacy derails food addictions and overeating behavior These disease recoveries, achieved with natural whole foods, prepared deliciously, are inspiring to all and critical to consider in our present crisis of expensive and unaffordable health care.

Flemington, NJ (PRWEB) January 27, 2010

Dr. Fuhrman is grateful for the attention that Alanis Morissette’s weight loss success has brought to him and his book EAT TO LIVE, but the bigger story here is the dramatic recoveries from life-threatening illnesses his readers have achieved following his high nutrient (http://www. drfuhrman. com/library/article6.aspx) diet-style. Dr. Fuhrman is passionate about educating the public and stresses, “Micronutrient adequacy is needed to control appetite and food addictions. Not only is this the key to weight loss but more importantly it is the key to reversing heart disease (http://drfuhrman. com/disease/HeartDisease. aspx) and many chronic illnesses debilitating people everyday.”

Singing sensation Morissette put an end to her lifelong battle with weight and has acclaimed Joel Fuhrman, M. D.’s book EAT TO LIVE as the key to her success. Dr. Fuhrman emphasizes a diet composed of nutrient dense foods (http://drfuhrman. com/weightloss/about. aspx) which are vital to weight loss, good health and longevity. He has even coined the term, nutritarian (http://drfuhrman. com/library/are-you-a-nutritarian. aspx) to describe the eating style he advocates.

A now trim and fit Morisette says, “This isn’t just a healthy phase. This is a way of life. I feel like my body is what it was born to be.” watch video

Mehmet Oz (http://drfuhrman. com/weightloss/foreword. aspx), M. D. calls Dr. Fuhrman’s plan, “a medical breakthrough.”

Living a Nutritarian lifestyle is life changing. Fuhrman’s readers and online members are living proof and want to share their success. . .

Ronnie was still very ill and was certain he was not going to live much longer after failed bypass surgery and stents placed in his arteries — he was still having chest pain. As a last ditch effort, he googled “reverse heart disease” and discovered Dr. Fuhrman’s web site. Ronnie lost over 140lbs in one year and completely restored his health. He was able to rid himself of all medications and save over $600 per month in out-of-pocket expenses! You will be astounded by his remarkable recovery.

Charlotte suffered a stroke and was diagnosed with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and 65 percent blocked arteries, she found Dr. Fuhrman’s book and was assured by the successes on his website. She lost a staggering 133 pounds and recovered her health including completely getting rid of her diabetes – something she didn’t think was possible.

Anthony was 33 years old, 360 pounds, with high blood pressure and frequent migraines. He had always struggled with weight. After reading Fuhrman’s EAT TO LIVE he “got it” and started making changes. Today he is without headaches, 160 pounds lighter and more energetic.

Dr Fuhrman thinks dramatic success stories, like these, achieved with natural whole foods is newsworthy and critical to consider in our present crisis of expensive and unaffordable health care. Lets make sure everyone knows how they can get well.

Joel Fuhrman, M. D., is a board-certified family physician who specializes in preventing and reversing disease through nutritional and natural methods. His other books include Eat For Health, Disease-Proof Your Child, and Cholesterol Protection for Life. In addition, to being widely published in medical journals and consumer publications, like People magazine and The Economist, he is recognized as one of the country's leading experts on nutrition and natural healing and, as such, has appeared on hundreds of radio and television programs shows including: ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, CNN, Today, Good Morning America, the Discovery Channel, TV Food Network, CNBC and others.

NAMI Issues "Stigma Alert" Over Inaccurate and Offensive Halloween Costumes, Attractions

NAMI Issues "Stigma Alert" Over Inaccurate and Offensive Halloween Costumes, Attractions

National Alliance on Mental Illness opposes Halloween costumes, attractions that perpetuate mental health illness stereotypes

Arlington, VA (PRWEB) October 28, 2009

As Halloween approaches, the National Alliance on Mental Illness (http://www. nami. org/) (NAMI) is issuing a Halloween "stigma alert" (http://www. nami. org/Template. cfm? Section=Stigma_Alerts_Archive&template=/contentmanagement/contentdisplay. cfm&ContentID=88086&title=NAMI%20StigmaBuster%20Alert%3A%20October%2022%2C%202009) for costumes and other seasonal attractions that feature inaccurate and offensive stereotypes regarding those with mental health illnesses.

NAMI points out ghosts and goblins are one thing, but when "haunted house" attractions become "insane asylums" featuring "mental patients" as murderous ghouls, it's time for the organization, and public, to protest. U. S. Surgeon General has determined that stigma is a major barrier to people getting help when they need it and NAMI chapters across the country are working to make sure Halloween does not turn into a chance to perpetuate these stereotypes. What to do?
If offensive Halloween attractions or products appear in your local stores, contact sponsors, advertisers or sellers personally. Educate and ask them to remove offensive parts of any attraction, advertisements or merchandise that mock mental illness.

Alert local NAMI chapters, family and friends to phone, send letters or e-mail the sponsors or stores.

Contact local newspaper editors and television news directors. Educate them about stigma and your concerns.

For example, NAMI New Jersey (http://www. naminj. org/advocacy/advocacy_alerts. html) is fighting an "Asylum of Terror" sponsored by a local museum and supported by a local Wal-Mart and Dunkin' Donuts, to name a few. There are several ways supporters of NAMI and advocates of those with mental illnesses can also help spread the message that perpetuating stigma towards persons with a mental illness is a national -- as well as local -- concerns.

Visit the NAMI Halloween Stigma Alert at: http://www. nami. org/Template. cfm? About NAMI:
The National Alliance on Mental Illness is a non-partisan organization with 1100 state and local affiliates, dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and families affected by mental illness. Beachwalk Project Joins Altamaha Riverkeeper to Support Jekyll Island Protection

Beachwalk Project Joins Altamaha Riverkeeper to Support Jekyll Island Protection

Altamaha Riverkeeper's work to protect Georgia's coastal environment is a shared goal of Beachwalk project members doing a 1600 mile paddle/walk of the East Coast.

Jekyll Island, GA (PRWEB) April 28, 2007

Protecting Jekyll Island for future generations was the focus of Altamaha Riverkeeper's (ARK) (www. altamahariverkeeper. org) recent Celebrate Jekyll gathering. ARK and Beachwalk Project members braved high winds on the island's undeveloped south end to urge citizens to support protection of Jekyll, one of Georgia's most accessible natural beaches.

Beginning in February 2007, Beachwalk Project members Stein Kretsinger and Robert Weinman launched a 133-day, 1600-mile walk/kayak journey along the entire eastern seashore from Miami, FL to New York, NY to support the environment.

After being on their trek for 8 weeks, the paddlers joined Altamaha Riverkeeper for the April 15th celebration. Weinman, a Seattle-based teacher when not paddling, expressed how wonderful it was to discover an island as pristine as Jekyll; "The landscape in Georgia is beautiful and natural, especially after coming from Florida where it is so developed."

Their stop on Jekyll was made to highlight the importance of protecting Georgia's barrier islands from beachfront development. Krestsinger said, "In Florida we saw first hand how development has driven the spending of millions of dollars to re-nourish beaches that are naturally eroding. Because numerous structures are built too close to the beach, now residents are paying the costs of bringing in more sand to keep the structures from falling into the ocean."

"We know how special Jekyll Island is to Georgians but learning from our guests about development problems on Florida's beaches renews our commitment to protecting the island for the thousands of visitors who come to enjoy its undeveloped nature," said Billie Jo Parker, the Coastkeeper of the Altamaha Riverkeeper.

In the last month, the Altamaha Riverkeeper joined thousands of citizens from throughout Georgia to support legislation to protect the south end of Jekyll from proposed development. The effort came after members of the Jekyll Island Authority began publicly discussing their plans to seek a master developer to create a development plan for the island. In the last hours of the 2007 General Assembly, Senator Jeff Chapman of Brunswick amended legislation aimed at facilitating Jekyll's development. These amendments will protect the island against inappropriate development.

The Beachwalk project is continuing and its route will take Kretsinger and Weinman along the world's longest barrier island chain, marked by beaches, swamps, estuaries and wetlands. Along the way, they are meeting with other waterkeepers, leaders, and educators in coastal communities. Part of their goal is to raise support for Waterkeeper Alliance, a grassroots advocacy organization with 155 local clean water advocates, such as the Altamaha Riverkeeper, who patrol waterways and protect the publics right to clean water. Beachwalk project is also using the expedition to promote healthy water and wind-based activities to children including: fishing, kayaking, surfing, windsurfing, kite-boarding and sailing.

Kretsinger and Weinman have a long history of outdoor sports under their belts and say every day is an adventure. When asked about planning for the trip, Kretsinger laughed and said that even though neither one of them started out as expert paddlers, they would be by the end of the trip.

If Kretsinger seems confident, it may be because he is no stranger to success. In 2000, he co-founded Advertising. com, an on-line marketing company, which was sold to AOL/Time Warner for a sunny $435 million in 2004.

The planner in the group seems to be Evelyn Weinman. She is following in the escort vehicle, organizing all public relations events, and arranging their overnight stays on beaches and in national and state parks. From Guam, Evelyn is also the chief cook and prepares her healthy native food in the RV, which serves as their home away from home.

Evelyn says, "You have to respect the water. It has its own spirit. Today in Guam, the water is so polluted with discharge from large ships it is not healthy for the natives to use the water for fishing anymore. We want to raise environmental awareness and encourage children and community members to become involved with programs, like the Altamaha Riverkeeper to promote responsible watershed stewardship."

Having Health Insurance Is Not the Same as Having Health Benefits. High Deductibles Leave Many Without Basic Maintenance Health Benefits. <a href="http://www. LowerMyDoctorBills. com" onclick="linkClick(this. href)">www. LowerMyDoctorBills. com</a> Offers Affordable Solutions

Having Health Insurance Is Not the Same as Having Health Benefits. High Deductibles Leave Many Without Basic Maintenance Health Benefits. www. LowerMyDoctorBills. com Offers Affordable Solutions.

The healthcare crisis goes beyond the 45 million uninsured Americans. Individuals and families buying health insurance are forced to take high deductibles, $2500 to $5000 to make premiums affordable. This means that, in many cases, basic health benefits such as emergency care, check ups, prescriptions, dental, vision, hearing and chiropractic are not covered. Where's the benefit in that?

(PRWEB) September 29, 2004 -

The soaring costs of health insurance are forcing individuals and families to select higher and higher deductibles in order to make the plans affordable. But, the question is: Do you have health benefits?

There is plenty debate on how to fix the health care crisis. President Bush proposes promotion of the health savings accounts or HSAs. HSAs combine high deductible insurance plans with tax-deductible savings accounts to help fund the out of pocket expenses. The plans have merit and some families will definitely benefit from their use. Here's the problem.

Families are already buying high deductible plans to keep monthly premiums within budget. HSAs mean that they can put aside money to pay for the out of pocket expenses, such as the deductibles, copayments and coinsurance. However, these plans don't include the basic maintenance benefits. Dental cleanings, vision and hearing tests are not being performed on many children due to limitations on some health plans.

Gail Lynn Moore, owner of wwwLowerMyDoctorBillscom and a licensed insurance agent in California says "I try to educate my clients on how to build health benefit packages for themselves and their families. I usually recommend $2500, $3000 or $5000 deductibles, but help clients weigh those plans against not having doctor visits paid for, or prescription coverage included. Sometimes a discount benefit card will do the trick. No, they're not insurance, but offer valuable benefits that are not available in many individual health insurance plans."

In response to some critics who suggest using discount plans to meet the deductible isn't the best way to go, she replies, "I'm not suggesting that the plan be used to fill the deductible gap. I recommend the client buy the discount plan for the benefits. Most of these expenses would not count towards the deductible. For example, a $1000 dental benefit with two free annual cleanings per family member would be a benefit worth having."

Moore cautions, "Not all discount benefit cards are created equal. I market the International Association of Businesses (IAB) cards for several reasons:

1) The non-profit association, founded in 1982 has been committed to delivering benefits to American families,

2) they offer four different levels of benefits, providing more flexibility in designing a health package,

3) the long term care advisor makes the Classic plan ideal for seniors struggling with the high cost of prescriptions and the possible need for long term care in the future and

4) the Money Back Rewards Program is simply frosting on the cake."

Consumers need to understand that having health insurance does not mean that they necessarily will have health benefits. Having health insurance and still being uninsured doesn't make a lot of sense. Access to affordable health benefits is here today. At www. LowerMyDoctorBills. com, they really are changing the way America buys healthcare.

Savvy Healthcare Consumers Seek Skilled, Safe Cosmetic Surgeons Abroad; Cosmetic Harmony Quickly Becoming Number One Travel Destination

Miami, FL (PRWEB) January 14, 2009

In today's information age, savvy consumers have at their disposable a variety of tools to research and compare healthcare options. Skill and safety are among the top criteria cited by many cosmetic surgery (http://www. affordableplasticcosmeticsurgeryincolombia. com/) seekers, followed closely by cost. The surprising result? Many Americans now travel abroad for high quality, safe and affordable procedures. In 2008 more cosumers traveled to Colombia for cosmetic procedures than ever before. In fact the year over year percentage growth was a 31% increase from 2007. With over 45,000 people visting Colombia for surgery in 2008. This was in part due to a slowing economy in the United States and Europe as well as a growing reputation for Colombian surgeons. Medical Tourism as an industry is one of the fastest growing industries in the world today.

Cosmetic Harmony, a medical tourism (http://www. affordableplasticcosmeticsurgeryincolombia. com/) company specializing in cosmetic surgery, has seen an increase in its American clientele. Headquartered in Colombia, Cosmetic Harmony offers procedures at a fraction of the cost patients would pay elsewhere, coupled with a degree of personal attention almost unheard of in the United States.

With rising costs in the United States and Europe more and more clinics and surgeons are seeking ways to cut costs. "In the United States, a patient may see several different doctors leading up to his or her procedure. It's an assembly line mentality," says Anthony Guidice, Cosmetic Harmony (http://www. affordableplasticcosmeticsurgeryincolombia. com/) Vice President of Sales. "There's little to no continuity when multiple physicians are involved at different stages in the process. Cosmetic Harmony prides itself of continuity of care and a personalized experience. The physician you see for the consultation will be the same physician who performs the surgery and the same physician you see once the surgery is complete."

In addition to the personal attention of a dedicated physician, Cosmetic Harmony clients also benefit from the company's use of anesthesiologists, as opposed to nurse anesthetists. Nurse anesthetists are commonly used to administer anesthesia in many surgery centers, due to the comparably high cost of their physician counterparts.

"While nurse anesthetists are certainly qualified to administer anesthesia, we feel that a medical doctor is better suited," says Guidice. "Our anesthesiologists (http://www. affordableplasticcosmeticsurgeryincolombia. com/) administer the anesthesia and oversee the procedure, beginning to end, to ensure safety."

Cash for Chunkers-Fitness Together Minneapolis St. Paul

Fitness Together MSP Announces Local Exercise Stimulus Package

Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) September 2, 2009

Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minn. (PRWEB) September 2, 2009 -- Fitness Together Minneapolis St. Paul today announced it's "Cash for Chunkers" program. Similar to the Federal Government's Cash for Clunkers program where unwanted, inefficient vehicles can be traded in for cash discounts on a new vehicle, the Cash for Chunkers program similarly provides discounts for people looking to trade in their overweight bodies for a new one.

The program, which is available immediately, allows for graduated discounts relative to an individual's current body fat. "We take the difference between an individual's current body fat measurement, the ideal body fat for the individual, and then offer a discount on the difference." stated Fitness Together Minneapolis St Paul Owner and Chief Fitness officer Randy Zarecki.

The AP reported last month that being obese can cost an individual as much as $1400 more per year more than a normal weight individual. "While it would be great for the Federal Government to spend some money on exercise instead of encouraging people to drive more, that hasn't happened, so we're providing our own stimulus package for overweight and obese people to get healthier and save up to $1400." Zarecki added.

"A woman currently measuring 35% body fat is 20% above the ideal female body fat percentage of 15%, so she would get a 20% discount on any of our programs... up to $1400 off." Zarecki clarified.

The program is available to new FT MSP clients only through August 31st.

Interested parties can get more information by calling any of the 3 Fitness Together Minneapolis St Paul studios. Fitness Together provides customized, private one on one personal training in fully equipped studios.

Ways to Improve the Performance of an IT Department

Ways to Improve the Performance of an IT Department

An informative book from a thirty-five-year veteran in the field of business information management

Wilmington, NC (Vocus) June 10, 2010

Information technology enthusiasts, scholars, and book fanatics are in for a new, intelligent, and relevant read as author Avery Cloud, PhD releases, through Xlibris, Turnaround. Filled with indispensable knowledge and information, this book is an essential tool to pave the way for creating a high performing information technology department.

Turnaround is a technique-rich exposé about improving the information technology service management (ITSM) structure of an information technology department, especially one that is in crisis. This book also provides contextually relevant stories that paint real world pictures of IT leader challenges from which the reader can draw valuable lessons and consider solutions for the problems IT leaders often face.

Many of the examples presented in Turnaround are healthcare industry-oriented; however, having spent nearly half his career in global manufacturing and consumer goods, and the latter half in health care, Cloud has found that the fundamentals of information service management are essentially the same everywhere. The business vocabularies, business processes, products, and services differ; but once one enters the halls of the IT department, he or she still finds servers, operating systems, help desks, networks, telephony, and the necessary IT disciplines to manage them.

Through Turnaround, readers will broaden their knowledge on information technology and its management. For more information on this book, log on to Xlibris. com (http://www2.xlibris. com/bookstore/bookdisplay. aspx? bookid=79698).

Glimpse Quarterly Questions Family Values and Traditions in America

Glimpse Quarterly Questions Family Values and Traditions in America

In this exclusive report, Glimpse Quarterly draws from survey responses from over 1,000 American study abroad students to examine family values around the world and challenge the United States' emphases on independence and self-sufficiency.

Providence, Rhode Island (PRWEB) March 6, 2006 ––

An exclusive report released in the Spring 2006 issue of Glimpse Quarterly utilizes feedback from a survey of over 1,000 returned study abroad students to compare family values and traditions in America to those in other countries around the world. Major topics addressed are: privacy versus communality, careers versus personal relationships and freedom versus familial responsibility.

Asserts Emily Andrew, a student at University of Rhode Island who studied abroad in Spain, “Spaniards value family more than their work or career.” Northwestern College student Alicia Kuiken echoes this sentiment: “After coming home from Mexico, I realized how hard Americans work for things we do not need. In Mexico, I understood the importance of … spending time with family and friends.”

Says Purdue University study abroad student, John Lugowski, “While in India, I came to see how shallow American culture can be. Specifically, the quality of friendships and strength of families is much less.”

The report was written and compiled by Glimpse Quarterly’s Editor in Chief, Kerala Goodkin, who asserts, “It is a healthy exercise to examine the notions, practices and expectations that surround family in other countries. We have every right to value our freedom, but what do we sacrifice to enjoy this freedom?” The report also includes article excerpts from Glimpse Quarterly’s online counterpart, GlimpseAbroad. org, which relate various familial experiences that study abroad students have had in Thailand, Denmark, Mexico and Ecuador.

In addition to this exclusive report, the Spring 2006 issue of Glimpse Quarterly features a special spotlight section on Australia, featuring first-person perspectives on Australians’ unique relationship with the “great outdoors.” It also features a photo essay on Beijing’s traditional neighborhoods, called “Hutongs,” which are rapidly disappearing in the face of modernizing forces. Other stories include: “A Bloodthirsty Cocaine Factory? Colombia: What the U. S. Media Doesn’t Understand” and “How to Relieve Stress: Cape Verdean Women Reveal Their Secret.”

Glimpse Quarterly is published by the 501(c)3 Glimpse Foundation, which promotes cross-cultural understanding and exchange, especially between the United States and the rest of the world, by providing a print and electronic forum for sharing the experience of young adults living and studying abroad. Primarily distributed through colleges and universities across the country, the magazine has a current circulation of 10,000 with a projected readership of 15,000. It is also available in bookstores nationwide.

The Glimpse Foundation was established by Brown University students in November 2001 and began full-time production in May 2002, with generous seed funds from the National Geographic Society. Glimpse uses its growing youth network to innovate platforms for creative nonfiction, informed discourse and intercultural exchange.

Complimentary review copies of Glimpse Quarterly Spring 2006 available upon request.

Cutting Edge Facility Helps Athletes Prepare for Upcoming Season

Cutting Edge Facility Helps Athletes Prepare for Upcoming Season

Providence, RI, complex is helping athletes get back in the game quicker than ever.

Providence, RI (PRWEB) September 8, 2006

Superior fitness and injury reduction are underutilized strategies for gaining a competitive edge in non-professional sports. One state-of-the-art facility in Rhode Island is changing that.

Foundry Sports Medicine & Fitness, conveniently located in Providence, RI, is a full service “body rebuilding” facility serving not only athletes, but any injured individual. It was created around the philosophy that when it comes to rebuilding your patient’s body, every day counts. Whether it’s getting a high school quarterback back on the field in time for the playoffs or treating painful joints and everyday wear and tear, Foundry Sports Medicine & Fitness believes minimizing time lost to injuries should be prioritized by everyone -- not just professional athletes.

This premier sports medicine facility is capable of treating patients with the quality of care and speed usually reserved for professional athletes. Every facet of care that an injured patient could imagine is all under one roof. At the core is a team of top orthopedic doctors, physical therapists and athletic trainers. In addition, there is in-house diagnostic imaging, including MRI, X-ray and bone densitometer. All of these factors will result in a first class patient experience that was only available to the world’s top professional athletes, until now.

Leading the team is Dr. Michael Wiggins, Orthopedic Surgeon and Sports Medicine Specialist. Dr. Wiggins is regarded as one of New England’s premier sports medicine experts and has appeared on several television and radio shows analyzing the injury issues of many high profile sports stars. “Our goal is to provide a patient experience that is seamless and result’s in a quick, complete recovery,” comments the Yale educated physician.

In addition to having a tremendous team, Foundry Sports Medicine & Fitness also provides many other outstanding programs designed to aid overall health and recovery such as golf fitness evaluations and biomechanical video analysis, KT 2000 testing for ACL stability, VO2 Max testing for cardiovascular fitness and sports injury clinics for high school athletes.

If your goal is to return to the field, or life, pain free and quickly, this is the place to be.

Dramatic Improvement In Home-Care For Patients Thanks To Logistics Planning From DPS International

Dramatic Improvement In Home-Care For Patients Thanks To Logistics Planning From DPS International

A ground-breaking logistics project in Sweden has increased the amount of time nurses spend with home-care patients by 40% while achieving a dramatic reduction of costs by cutting the distance covered by 25%. This was all achieved using a UK logistics routing and scheduling solution, LogiX from DPS International of Halesowen, without an increase in the total working time of the staff.

London, (PRWEB) January 13, 2007

A ground-breaking logistics project in Sweden has increased the amount of time nurses spend with home-care patients by 40% while achieving a dramatic reduction of costs by cutting the distance covered by 25%. This was all achieved using a UK logistics routing and scheduling solution, LogiX from DPS International of Halesowen, without an increase in the total working time of the staff.

Paul Palmer, CEO of DPS International - http://www. dps-int. com (http://www. dps-int. com) - believes that the NHS could improve efficiency of nurses and healthcare workers in many areas in the UK if they were to learn from the experience and expertise applied by leading logistics companies and now in Sweden. "Experience from other businesses, who work within the logistics field, shows that the results achieved with vehicle routing software are not always taken seriously as they seem too impressive. However, now that the new planning system has been successfully integrated into the daily work, and they've actually seen the benefits, they don't want to go back to the old way of planning," Mr Palmer said.

For the last year, Röra a Swedish home-help service in the health sector, based in the municipality of Mark, have been planning nurses and home-help transport and services with the route scheduling and optimisation system, LogiX, from UK company DPS International. The results have been outstanding. The number of kilometres driven by the home-help service in the district has been reduced by approximately 25% and the efficient working time increased by 40%, without increasing the total number of working hours.

The total efficient working time has increased from 52% in 2005 to 73% in 2006. Orust is now expanding the logistic system to another district that has great potential to achieve the same results that have been accomplished in Röra. This is comparable to the best results achieved in more traditional market applications of vehicle routing.

Because of the success of the home nursing and home-help project, Mark municipality is looking at the introducing a support system to revolutionise the way resources are planned in the home-help services. One possibility that is also being discussed is to centralize the planning function. The planning function may even be able to handle other travel services such as business travel, as well as regular transport of goods in the municipality activity. Mark municipality has created an administration that among other duties is used to supervise all vehicles within the municipality.

About DPS International:

DPS International is a worldwide company with its Head Office in Halesowen in Central England, offering a wide range of specialised logistics support services including logistics consultancy, vehicle scheduling software, and in-cab control and monitoring systems.

The company was started 25 years ago in 1982 by its current chair, Paul Palmer, as a logistics consulting business based on many years of experience both at an operational and functional level within the FMCG Transport sector. The company is now a world leader in providing IT Solutions to the Logistics sector with an infrastructure of DPS offices spread out over the globe, plus a network of Business Partners.

The growth of the consulting business in the UK, particularly at a Contract Logistics level, highlighted the need for IT tools at both a strategic and tactical level. Having researched the market and not finding the tools the market needed, DPS invested in the development of both vehicle scheduling and routing software systems, initially to meet its consulting customers' needs, but eventually to a wider logistics market.

In 1991, DPS began an expansion plan outside the UK with its first sales in the Benelux countries and Scandinavia. By 1993, there was further growth into France and Australia. DPS is now a world player with additional offices in South Africa, Germany, and South Asia.

DPS now has over 70 staff directly employed, plus an additional 20-30 people indirectly employed by partners.

The company now operates in four key areas:-

1. Logistics consulting

2. Supply of professional vehicle scheduling and optimisation systems

3. Supply of vehicle routing and time & distance technology systems

4. Systems integration and bespoke solutions - with ERP systems, in-cab monitoring and warehouse management

New Treatments for Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome Offer new Hope for Millions

New Treatments for Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome Offer new Hope for Millions

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) affects one in ten women of childbearing age. It can cause a range of problems including menstrual irregularity, infertility and acne, unwanted hair growth and obesity. Now there is new research and treatment protocols helping women with PCOS lead healthier lives and achieve healthy pregnancies.

Norwalk, CT (PRWEB) April 21, 2005

For one in ten women of childbearing age, the diagnosis of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome can mean a lifetime of health problems from menstrual irregularity, infertility, and acne, to unwanted hair growth to obesity, cardiovascular disease and an increased risk of certain cancers. But research on several new treatment protocols is beginning to confirm that women with PCOS can live healthier lives, and even achieve healthy pregnancies.

Researchers now believe they have isolated an insulin imbalance in the bloodstream of many women with PCOS, which causes the overproduction of male hormones (androgens) like testosterone. This imbalance may be the actual trigger for the many symptoms associated with PCOS. This finding has led to several promising new approaches -- including drug therapies, high-tech infertility treatments and even commonsense health and wellness strategies.

“We know that normal ovulation requires the perfect synchronization of hormones in the body,” Dr. Leondires explains. “PCOS causes shifts in hormone levels, rendering normal ovulation unlikely.” The lack of ovulation is largely to blame for the infertility aspect of PCOS, while the hormone imbalance is responsible for the associated symptoms of unwanted hair growth and acne.

Yet, researchers believe that administering a combination of medications commonly used to treat individual conditions may yield promising results in PCOS patients. A study in the International Journal of Gynecology and Obstetrics (December, 2004) has already found Metformin, and insulin sensitizer, to be a promising standalone treatment for PCOS. The researchers reported that 28% of the 41 women treated with Metformin achieved pregnancy within 6 months, while an even greater percentage achieved improved ovulation rates, better menstrual cyclicity, higher HDL cholesterol levels, lower overall cholesterol levels and a reduction in Body Mass Index (BMI).

Another highly-successful approach to PCOS treatment is also surprisingly “low-tech.” It focuses on adopting diet and exercise regimens to achieve a healthy weight, which doctors believe helps to regulate insulin levels and prevent the cardiovascular problems sometimes associated with PCOS. “There is clinical evidence, too, that excess body fat can be correlated with hormonal imbalances and ovarian malfunction, two key symptoms of PCOS,” Dr. Leondires notes. “What’s more, good health is the best way to increase the chances of a healthy pregnancy, no matter how that pregnancy is achieved,” he says.

If you suspect you may have PCOS and wish to become pregnant, Dr. Leondires advises a visit to a reproductive medicine specialist. “The difficulty with PCOS is that it is a syndrome, encompassing a wide range of symptoms and problems, many of which mimic other diseases and disorders,” explains Dr. Leondires. “Reproductive Endocrine specialists are trained to provide gynecological and obstetrics care, but we also have an additional expertise in the workings of the endocrine system – where disorders such as PCOS start,” he explains. Women with PCOS should know that there are effective treatments for their disease.

AP9 ValueMax Offers Fuel Efficiency Tips for Drivers as Gas Prices Hit Record Highs

AP9 ValueMax Offers Fuel Efficiency Tips for Drivers as Gas Prices Hit Record Highs

AP9 ValueMax, by Adaptive Marketing LLC, Helps Members Save on Car Care, Health Care, Travel Reservations, Shopping and More

Stamford, CT (PRWEB) May 6, 2005

Soaring gas prices continue to hit consumers in the wallet and it does not appear that relief is in sight anytime soon, predicts AP9 ValueMax, a premier savings program offered by Adaptive Marketing LLC.

AP9 ValueMax (http://www. valuemax-program. com/) provides its members a means to save on many of their everyday household expenses, including shopping, healthcare, auto care, travel and entertainment. Members access their benefits quickly and easily via DealPass (http://www. dealpass. com).

AP9 ValueMax reminds motorists that they can use less fuel - and hit the pump less often - with just a few simple gas conservation tips:

Stay on top of your car maintenance. The better your car runs, the more efficiently it burns fuel. Check your tire pressure at least once a month. Not only do under-inflated cars reduce fuel efficiency, it shortens the life of your tires. Gas up early or late in the day when it’s coolest. Gas at cooler temperatures is denser, which means you are getting more gas for your volume. Mind the speed limit. Cars use twenty to twenty-five percent more gas at seventy miles per hour than at fifty-five miles per hour. Steady driving speeds are also significantly more efficient than sharp accelerations and sudden braking. Remove your roof rack, ski or bike racks and cargo racks when they are not in use. Roof racks create “drag” that dramatically affects your vehicle’s aerodynamics. Lighten up. Remove all excess materials from your vehicle. Extra weight also impacts aerodynamics. Use the 60-second rule. If you plan to idle for more than a minute, turn your engine off. Save the air conditioning for heat waves. Your air conditioner reduces your fuel efficiency by as much as twenty percent. Try to use it as little as possible. However, keep in mind that driving with your windows open at high speeds reduces your fuel economy by about ten percent. Use your ventilation system as much as possible. Plot your errands. Map out the stores and other locations you need to visit so your route is as short as possible. Go public. Consider public transportation -- buses, trains and the like -- which can be cost - and time-savers (as well as a welcome break to the stress of driving in traffic).

13therapeutics Completes Pre-IND Meeting with the FDA

13therapeutics Completes Pre-IND Meeting with the FDA

13therapeutics, Inc., a bio-pharmaceutical company that develops peptides to treat a variety of inflammatory and auto-immune system diseases, announced today that the company has completed a Type B pre-investigational new drug (Pre-IND) meeting with the U. S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to determine the clinical and regulatory pathway to advance its anti-inflammatory peptide, P13, for topical treatment of Acute Otitis Media (AOM) and Otitis Media with Effusion (OME).

Portland, OR (PRWEB) December 30, 2010

13therapeutics, Inc., a bio-pharmaceutical company that develops peptides to treat a variety of inflammatory and auto-immune system diseases, announced today that the company has completed a Type B pre-investigational new drug (Pre-IND) meeting with the U. S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to determine the clinical and regulatory pathway to advance its anti-inflammatory peptide, P13, for topical treatment of Acute Otitis Media (AOM) and Otitis Media with Effusion (OME).

AOM is the most frequent diagnosis in children with over 21 million cases each year in the U. S. and annual costs of over $5 billion. AOM results in inflammation and fluid retention within the middle ear and Eustachian tube which can lead to hearing loss, delayed speech and language development, recurrent infections, and costly ear tubes. AOM is the most common indication for which an antibiotic is prescribed to children, but antibiotics have been shown to have limited therapeutic value. Antibiotic resistant bacteria are a major public health concern, and antibiotics do not impact fluid retention in the middle ear.

“There is a major unmet medical need for a clinical therapeutic for AOM and OME that reduces middle ear inflammation and fluid and associated hearing impairment and sequelae, including learning impairment,” said Tom Bruggere, CEO of 13therapeutics. “In pre-clinical models of AOM and OME, P13 has been demonstrated to be an effective inhibitor of middle ear inflammation, to significantly reduce middle ear fluid retention, and to reduce hearing impairment.”

"We are very pleased with the outcome of our Pre-IND interaction with the FDA," commented Dr. Steven Hefeneider, President and CSO of 13therapeutics. "The FDA was very supportive of our efforts to advance a topical (ear drop) treatment for AOM and OME. As a result of the feedback we received on our Pre-IND package, we believe we have clear visibility for the required pathway to complete our toxicity testing for P13.”

Founded in 2008, Portland, Oregon-based 13therapeutics has produced a portfolio of peptides with demonstrated immune-regulatory activity and with varying mechanisms of action. Many of the company’s peptides are capable of multiple methods of delivery, have shown serum stability, and have other desired features of clinical therapeutics. The management team and research scientists of 13therapeutics are veterans of bioscience, research and technology. Website: http://www.13therapeutics. com.

"Who Counts, Morally: Humans? Animals? Species?": February's Topic at the Davis Square Philosophy Café. February 15, 7:30-9:30pm

McIntyre and Moore Booksellers, in conjunction with the Center for Naturalism, continues year 2 of its discussion group series, the Davis Square Philosophy Café, held each month on the third Tuesday. The Philosophy Café is a philosophy discussion group modeled on philosophy cafés underway in other cities in Europe and the US. The goal is to present occasions for informal, relaxed philosophical discussion on topics of mutual interest to participants. No particular expertise is required to participate, only a desire to explore philosophy and its real world applications.

(PRWEB) January 26, 2005

February's topic, "Who Counts, Morally: Humans? Animals? Species?," presented by Eric Blumenson and moderated by Tom Clark, will focus on the following: According to the human rights claim, every human being has a moral status that other entities--like rocks or plants--do not. No matter how weak, despised or criminal, every person is owed consideration and, with regard to his/her most vital interests, deference. On religious understandings, human beings count morally in this way because they are created in the image of God. Is there an alternative explanation of what it is about every human being that demands moral respect? If so, is this attribute shared with non-human animals or other entities as well?

Formerly a research associate at Health and Addictions Research, Tom Clark is director of the Boston-based Center for Naturalism. He writes on science, naturalism, free will, consciousness, addiction and other topics, and maintains an extensive website on philosophical and applied naturalism, Naturalism. Org (Yahoo #1 searching on "naturalism"). As moderator of the Philosophy Café, he brings an engaging interest in philosophy and its real world applications, and the ability to involve participants of varied backgrounds in animated, productive, and fair discussion.

Eric Blumenson is law professor at Suffolk University Law School, specializing in criminal law, human rights and moral philosophy. He has published on many topics, including police practices, relativism, and animal rights. Recently he worked for the prosecutor of the newly created International Criminal Court in The Hague.

Robotic Surgery for Gynecological Problems: Wider Range of Procedures and Better Outcomes

Robotic Surgery for Gynecological Problems: Wider Range of Procedures and Better Outcomes

Abnormal bleeding and pelvic pain, the cardinal symptoms of both benign and cancerous gynecological problems, are common and burdensome causes of disruptions in a women's ability to function at work, at play and in her family life. Now a new technology provides a means to perform even highly complex surgeries through using minimally invasive technology. Compared to open abdominal surgery of any kind, which involves a six - to 12-inch incision, women who undergo minimally invasive procedures that use dime-size incisions typically experience less pain, less bleeding and scarring, fewer complications, with a shorter hospital stay and faster recovery.

Fairfield County, CT (PRWEB) June 12, 2009

Abnormal bleeding and pelvic pain, the cardinal symptoms of both benign and cancerous gynecological problems, are common and burdensome causes of disruptions in a women's ability to function at work, at play and in her family life. Cancerous conditions of the reproductive organs are usually promptly treated with surgery. Yet many women delay treatment of non-cancerous gynecologic conditions, often experiencing years of suffering, said John M. Garofalo, MD (www. garofaloobgyn. com), who has provided gynecological and obstetrical care at his office in Norwalk for more than 25 years. A recent survey1 of 1,493 women aged 31-54 undergoing treatment for pelvic pain, abnormal uterine bleeding, and fibroids found that 83% reported "complete lack of or only partial symptom resolution" and almost half reported that their "pelvic problems interfered with their ability to have and enjoy sex."

After appropriate medical testing has established a non-cancerous cause of abnormal bleeding or pelvic pain, the best approach for most patients is "medical treatment" with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs), or hormonal preparations such as birth control pills or the progesterone containing IUD. In about 50% of cases, medical treatment will provide adequate relief of symptoms within 3 months. "When medications fail to manage the conditions within six months and childbearing has been completed, she should seriously consider surgery including the option of hysterectomy" he said. "Yet the option of surgery and hysterectomy is often avoided because of the time required to recuperate from traditional open surgery and concerns, largely unfounded, about adverse effects of surgery on sexuality and femininity."

In order to reduce the postoperative pain and length of recuperation associated with traditional open surgery, gynecologists sometimes use minimally invasive surgery, commonly known as laparoscopic surgery which produces smaller scars, less pain and a more rapid return to normal activities. Although effective for many operations, laparoscopic surgery is limited to procedures of low and moderate complexity. Now, an advanced surgical system developed by Intuitive Surgical, Inc., called the da Vinci® Surgical System (www. davincisurgery. com) , combines computer and robotic technologies to provide precise control of instruments and a 3D, high-resolution views of the operating field. The da Vinci system provides a means to perform even highly complex surgeries through using minimally invasive technology, i. e. small incisions. Norwalk Hospital began offering da Vinci® surgery for gynecological and urological procedures in August 2008. "With the da Vinci system, many more women have the option of a minimally invasive procedure that results in a better quality of life all the way around," said Dr. Garofalo, who became one of the first gynecologist in Fairfield County to be certified in the use of the da Vinci® Surgical System for gynecologic surgery.

Many excellent scientific studies have shown that when treatment of benign pelvic conditions with medications is not effective, surgery - and particularly hysterectomy - is curative of the primary symptoms. In addition to cure of pain and abnormal bleeding, a large majority of patients after surgery reported improvements in overall measures of health including depression, activity limitation, sleep disturbance, fatigue and sexual functioning.2,3,4 Leaving the ovaries is very helpful in preventing adverse effects of surgery for benign pelvic problems.

"Surgery is really curative," he said, and Da Vinci® surgery makes the cure much easier to tolerate." "Compared to open abdominal surgery of any kind, which involves a six - to 12-inch incision, women who undergo minimally invasive procedures that use dime-size incisions typically experience less pain, less bleeding and scarring, fewer complications, with a shorter hospital stay and faster recovery. If done by the traditional open abdominal incision, a hysterectomy, for example, typically requires recuperation of four to six weeks; with a da Vinci® procedure, it is seven to ten days," he said. We jokingly say that "this is not your mother's hysterectomy".

In addition to hysterectomy, Dr. Garofalo is certified to use the da Vinci® Surgical System for myomectomy (removal of fibroids for infertility), sacrocolpopexy (treatment of pelvic organ prolapse), and removal of endometriosis.

For more information, visit Dr. Garofalo's website, www. garofaloobgyn. com, or call 203-803-1098. His office is at 30 Stevens Street, Suite A in Norwalk.

For more information on the Vinci® Surgical System, www. davincisurgery. com.

A senior attending physician at Norwalk Hospital, Dr. Garofalo also serves on the hospital's Quality Improvement Committee. He received his medical degree from New York Medical College in Valhalla, and his Bachelor of Arts/Biology from New York University. He served his residency at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City.

Dr. Garofalo is a Diplomat of the American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology, and a member of the American Association of Gynecological Laparoscopists (AAGL).

They say, "our service is 100% free, we will do more to provide a mesothelioma cancer victim, or their family members with the widest array of help, advice, and an around the clock resource available any where in the United States." The Mesothelioma Victims Center says, "mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer created by exposure to asbestos. One third of all US individuals diagnosed with mesothelioma served in the US Navy. The saddest thing about mesothelioma, or a mesothelioma diagnosis is that it occurs frequently decades after the actual exposure to asbestos-typically starting with what appear to be pneumonia type symptoms." The group says, "other high risk mesothelioma/asbestos work related groups include, oil refinery workers, miners, ship yard workers, power plant workers, plumbers, electricians, boiler technicians, auto mechanics, city, or county water district employees, and even children, or school teachers who were exposed to asbestos in a public school." They say, "the saddest thing is, most mesothelioma victims we talk with each week didn't realize that the exposure could have been three, or four decades ago. This is the saddest thing about mesothelioma by far." Just diagnosed mesothelioma cancer victims, or their loved ones can call the Mesothelioma Victims Center anytime at 866-714-6466, or they can contact the group via their e-mail address at http://MesotheliomaVictimsCenter. On Finding The Best Mesothelioma Law Firm, or Attorney? The Mesothelioma Victims Center says,"the vast majority of legal firms advertising on cable TV, radio, or the Internet never actually bring a mesothelioma law suit to trial. They simply resell the case to an actual mesothelioma trial law firm." They say,"the thought of a mesothelioma marketing law firm selling a Veteran of the US Armed Forces, or someone's Dad, or Mom to the highest bidder turns our stomachs-so we just give out the names of the most successful US mesothelioma trial law firms, or attorneys in the United States-no middlemen mesothelioma marketing law firms." The group says, "the average personal injury law firm would not be capable of doing a first class job for a victim of mesothelioma. In the entire United States there are maybe two dozen law firms, that do this very specialized type of trial work. Call us-and we will simply tell you who are the best, and you decide which firm you like the most." New Year Is Perfect Time for Bariatric Surgery Patients to Renew Focus on Health

New Year Is Perfect Time for Bariatric Surgery Patients to Renew Focus on Health

BMI of Texas co-founders, bariatric surgeons Dr. Terive Duperier and Dr. Michael Seger, are encouraging bariatric patients everywhere to renew their focus on health and wellness and have developed some recommendations for all post-op bariatric patients. In addition, BMI of Texas announces 2010 educational seminar schedule for people considering weight loss surgery.

San Antonio, TX (PRWEB) January 14, 2010

The New Year is getting underway and there’s never been a better time to put a plan into action for becoming healthier. The Bariatric Medical Institute of Texas (http://www. bmioftexas. com/default) (BMI of Texas), which specializes in a variety of weight loss surgery procedures (http://www. bmioftexas. com/default/your-options) in Texas, is committed to the long-term success of its patients. BMI of Texas co-founders, bariatric surgeons Dr. Terive Duperier (http://www. bmioftexas. com/default/our-expert-team/frank) and Dr. Michael Seger (http://www. bmioftexas. com/default/our-expert-team/michael), are encouraging bariatric patients everywhere to renew their focus on health and wellness and have the following recommendations for all post-op bariatric patients:

1. You are what you eat. Consult with a licensed dietitian about what you should and should not be eating. The importance of a dietitian in your weight loss journey cannot be overstated, especially for bariatric surgery patients. There are many variations and nuances to the meal plans associated with the various surgeries and vitamin and micronutrient levels must be carefully monitored.

2. If you have an adjustable gastric band (Lap-Band® or REALIZE® band) and are no longer losing weight or your loss has stalled, consider getting a band fill (http://www. bmioftexas. com/adjustable-gastric-band-fills-video. html). If you feel as if you are increasingly hungry or not satisfied after eating, it may be time to have your gastric band adjusted. Whether you have a Lap-Band or REALIZE adjustable gastric band, the “right fit” may be a moving target because your stomach may shrink as you do. The stomach can also get used to a certain level of tightness, so what seems tight at two months post-surgery may feel loose at six months. The beginning of the year is a great time meet with your bariatric surgeons and have your band fit analyzed.

3. Attend support group. Talking to others about your weight loss success – and challenges – is a great way to remain compliant and get new ideas for achieving weight loss success, from new recipes to exercise ideas, to vitamins.

4. Start moving! If it was hard to find time to exercise during the holidays, now is a great time to start exercising again. If you are having a hard time getting started, hire a trainer to help you develop a workout routine or find a group of like-minded people and start an exercise program together. Whatever you do… stick to it!

In addition in to these suggestions, BMI of Texas today announced its schedule of upcoming seminars (http://www. bmioftexas. com/default/get-started/seminar-schedule) for people considering bariatric surgery. The free seminars, conducted by two of the most experienced bariatric surgeons (http://www. bmioftexas. com/default/our-expert-team) in San Antonio, serve as an important educational tool to guide obesity surgery patients on their journey towards better health. During these seminars, BMI of Texas bariatric surgeons Terive Duperier and Michael Seger discuss various obesity surgery options, answer questions, and offer patients support and guidance for their weight-loss journey. Many insurance plans cover weight loss surgery, and BMI of Texas patient concierges are available during the seminars to discuss attendees’ insurance coverage. The free seminars, being held in San Antonio, begin on January 14, 2010 and continue through April 10, 2010. To view a complete seminar schedule and register online, visit the Website at bmioftexas. com.

Located in San Antonio’s (http://www. bmioftexas. com/default/contact-us) Medical Center area, BMI of Texas helps patients achieve their weight loss goals through various surgical procedures including gastric bypass, adjustable gastric band and sleeve gastrectomy. BMI of Texas is one of the only clinics in San Antonio to perform band adjustments within its own clinic, which is a great convenience to patients. BMI of Texas also employs a full-time dietitian to assist with nutrition evaluation and management during both pre - and post-operative periods. Additionally, the surgeons perform a full spectrum of advanced laparoscopic procedures (http://www. bmioftexas. com/default/general-surgery), including laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication (anti-reflux surgery), laparoscopic colon surgery, laparoscopic pancreatic surgery, and laparoscopic hernia surgeries.

About BMI of Texas
Founded in 2008 by Dr. Terive Duperier and Dr. Michael Seger, BMI of Texas is focused on helping patients achieve their long-term weight loss goals.
