100 Volunteers Needed to Help Claim EITC Refunds - Learn More About Federal Taxes and Help Others Qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit

The DABC needs 100 volunteers between January and April 2005 to prepare tax returns for low-income families in the Denver community.

Do you like helping people, especially those in need? If so, the Denver Asset Building Coalition (DABC) may be just what youÂ’re looking for. A coalition of over 30 Denver non-profit organizations, government agencies, and private sector businesses which provides free tax preparation, financial education, and financial services through accessible sites in Denver to help the underserved build for the future and become economically stable.

The DABC needs 100 volunteers between January and April 2005 to prepare tax returns for low-income families in the Denver community. “DABC volunteers explain many special tax credits, such as the Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, and other deductions, so that qualified individuals may claim them on their tax returns,” said Benny Samuels, Denver Health Community Voices. “These volunteers prepare federal and State of Colorado tax returns helping people get any refunds that may be due them. Anyone can volunteer. If you have a skill and want to help, we can find a way to involve you in this program.” The IRS provides free tax law and IRS e-file training and all the materials needed to prepare basic individual income tax returns. Volunteers are asked to commit to at least twenty-four hours from February through April 15.

As a special incentive, volunteers with the DABC may electronically file tax returns free of charge for themselves and their immediate family during the tax season. Also, as part of a recruitment incentive, volunteers may be entered in a drawing for a new TIVO™ 40 Hour Digital Video Recorder (DVR)! See www. denverabc. org for details. The application deadline to volunteer is November 30, 2004.

Organizations, such as local civic and fraternal organizations, educational institutions, churches and social groups, are welcome to participate. If you or your organization would like more information about volunteering with the DABC, visit the DABCÂ’s website at www. denverabc. org.
