Past winners of the prestigious AU40 award include Lance Armstrong, Paul Carrozza, Michael Dell, MariBen Ramsey, Lynn Sherman, Evan Smith, Reid Ryan and Mayor Will Wynn.
“Receiving an Austin Under 40 award was a huge honor,” said Paul Carozza, CEO and Founder of RunTex. “The awards predict the future leaders of Austin and the fact that the proceeds go to charity is great.”
In addition to honoring young individuals, Austin Under 40 will benefit two charitable groups – the YMBL Austin sunshine camps and the Young Women’s Alliance Foundation. The Sunshine Camps have worked with disadvantaged Austin youth for over 70 years providing them with experiences to enrich and nourish their lives through its summer, leadership and scholarship programs. The Foundation provides scholarship to junior and senior level college women so they may complete professional internships.
“The Austin Sunshine Camps use a portion of the proceeds raised from the Austin Under 40 gala to fund its operations,” said Matt Weinheimer, YMBL President. “The money raised sends at-risk children to summer camps and also supports our leadership programs. Our hope is that these children have the opportunities to one day be an Austin Under 40 nominee.”
After the nominations are reviewed, 50 Austin-based professionals will be selected as category finalists and the winners will be recognized at the Austin Under 40 Gala, March 3rd, 2006 at The Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum. Tickets to the annual gala are available at www. AustinUnder40.org. Event sponsors include Fox News, Mix 94.7, NSIDE Magazine, Republic Print, A3 Design and 401K Solutions. About Austin Under 40
Young Men's Business League of Austin ("YMBL") and Young Women's Alliance ("YWA") have joined together to promote the annual event known as Austin Under 40 ("AU40"). AU40 is an event honoring the achievements of men and women under forty (40) years of age who have made substantial contributions in their professional fields as well as through service in the community. The event serves the dual goals of raising the community's awareness of both organizations while raising funds for the YMBL Sunshine Camps and YWA Foundation.
About YMBL Austin Sunshine Camps
The original inspiration for the Austin Sunshine Camps was to bolster the immunity of disadvantaged, underfed children against tuberculosis. The intent has changed since 1928, but our goal remains the same: to strengthen “at-risk” youth against those things that threaten their health—mental and physical. To date, more than 38,000 children have benefited from these efforts.
A single summer camp has grown into an entire series of weeklong camps during the summer, a year-round leadership training program, and several scholarships for Sunshine Campers who graduate from high school.
About YWA Foundation
The Young Women's Alliance Foundation (YWAF) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization created by YWA in 1997 to empower young women in the pursuit of their career goals.
Each year, the Young Women's Alliance Foundation awards $2,500 scholarships to women enrolled in graduate schools or their junior or senior year of college. Recipients are chosen based on their demonstrated financial need, commitment to community service, academic achievement, and leadership potential.
