Bill Monroe, CEO of Pompeian, announced that the olive oil importer is out to capture greater market share with the introduction of new packaging that is designed to dramatically build the brand and differentiate its entire line. A unique, custom-designed, lightweight, plastic bottle for olive oil is a key new element.
"We performed months and months of research working with Pompeian executive committee and suppliers," stated Monroe. "Our goal was to create packaging that would not only have stronger shelf-appeal but would deliver benefits to consumers, retailers and the environment."
The research led to custom designing of a unique, lightweight, PET plastic bottle to replace the glass ones that Pompeian had used for decades. Great care was taken in the design of the new square-shaped bottle to give it fashion-design style. The top is shaped like a multifaceted cut diamond so it catches light and stands out on the shelf. The bottle is embossed with an olive tree and the phrase "Since 1906" which attests to Pompeian's long heritage and extensive experience in procuring the world's finest-tasting quality olive oils. Sure-grip sides make for easy lifting and pouring, as well as easier stocking of shelves.
Preferred by consumers and retailers, PET contains no BPA or phthalates and is 100% recyclable. Weighing 90% less than traditional bottles, PET conserves fuel, energy and greenhouse gases throughout its lifecycle and has an estimated 50-60% smaller carbon footprint than traditional bottles.
The new square-shaped plastic bottle is being introduced across the line of Pompeian Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Classic Mediterranean, Extra Light Tasting, OlivExtra, and new OlivExtra Plus with Omega-3 DHA. They will be showing up in stores shortly.
Once the bottle was selected, new labels were designed featuring a stronger logo. The new, rich, deep-red logo with lemon-colored lettering provides dynamic branding for Pompeian and creates a facing that stands out. Beneath the Pompeian logo each product is clearly identified and there is a beautiful illustration of a Mediterranean landscape framed by olives or other fruits depending on the product.
"Pompeian's research shows that consumers want an olive oil from the Mediterranean," noted Bill Monroe. "Our new look evokes the essence of the healthy Mediterranean lifestyle. And each label clearly identifies the product, the flavor, the taste profile and the health benefits to expedite consumer purchases."
Other enhancements include eye-catching gold metallic bands to frame the labels. The gold not only grabs consumer attention, but also enhances perceived value of Pompeian branded products. Distinctive color-coding for each variety helps consumers during purchase and retailers when stocking shelves.
The Pompeian olive oil labels also carry the new NAOOA (North American Olive Oil Association) Seal which assures consumers that they are purchasing a truly fine olive oil. Another testament to quality is the Star-K symbol, indicating Pompeian products are produced under the purity guidelines of the Star-K kosher certification program.
Pompeian's new look has already won a New Jersey Ad Club first place award for best "Package Design Campaign."
"To make sure consumers are aware of the new line-up, we are backing the Pompeian brand with a strong advertising, sales promotion, and public relations program," stated Monroe.
