Clean Harbors Baltimore TSDF Receives VPP Certification
Recognized by Maryland's Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation
Baltimore (PRWEB) May 5, 2009
Clean Harbors Environmental Services, Inc. ("Clean Harbors"), the leading provider of environmental and hazardous waste management services throughout North America, has received Maryland's Occupational Safety and Health (MOSH) Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) certification at the Star level for its Baltimore Treatment, Storage & Disposal Facility (TSDF).
In his notification letter to Clean Harbors General Manager Edmund Romeo, Division of Labor and Industry Commissioner J. Ronald DeJuliis wrote, "Your designation as a VPP site is testament to sustained excellence in all areas of your safety and health management system."
VPP is a comprehensive health and safety process defined by the U. S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and administered by the states, which requires employee involvement, management support, and cooperation with regulators. Recipients demonstrate a strong management and employee safety culture that ensures a safe and healthful workplace environment, with occupational injury and illness incidence rates below state and national averages for companies within the same industry classification.
Commenting on the VPP designation, Clean Harbors Senior Vice President - Compliance & Regulatory Affairs, Philip G. Retallick said, "Baltimore represents another benchmark in Clean Harbors' quest to qualify for VPP certification wherever we do business. It is a wonderful honor to be recognized by both MOSH and OSHA for our efforts. We now enter the second phase - maintaining our outstanding health and safety performance as we go forward."
Baltimore is the sixth Clean Harbors site to achieve VPP Star status, with an additional 10 sites currently moving through the certification program. The company is also working towards becoming a VPP Corporate-certified company.
