Active International, a marketing and business solutions company, has reached an agreement in principle with Good Samaritan Hospital to establish the Active International Cardiovascular Institute at Good Samaritan Hospital. Active has agreed to create a series of fundraising activities designed to raise $2.5 million. The announcement was made by Alan S. Elkin, Co-founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer and Arthur Wagner, Co-founder and President of Active International at a press conference at the hospital.
The Active International Cardiovascular Institute at Good Samaritan Hospital is scheduled to open later this year and will offer open-heart surgery, primary angioplasty for acute heart attack, elective angioplasty to relieve potential blockages, and other cardiovascular procedures. Significantly, patients will now be able to remain with Good Samaritan Hospital for virtually all of their advanced cardiac care, instead of having to endure a transfer to an out-of-area hospital.
“This is the kind of watershed moment that changes people lives, and we’re incredibly proud to support Good Samaritan Hospital in this initiative,” said Elkin. "As both a resident and member of the business community, I believe the benefits of this new facility are far-reaching and will serve to greatly improve the lives, and quality of life, for residents of Rockland County today and for decades to come,” he added.
Michael Schnieders, Executive Vice President and Administrator of Good Samaritan Hospital, acknowledged Active’s involvement, saying, "This is a truly critical program that will enable the people of our community to finally have close, immediate access to the finest in cardiovascular care, right here at Good Samaritan Hospital.”
Schnieders continued, “Active International has long been a philanthropic leader in our community. We are sincerely grateful for the participation and support of Active International, Mr. Elkin and Mr. Wagner in the cardiovascular institute. This will help us to save lives and enhance the quality of healthcare in our community.”
The Active International Cardiovascular Institute at Good Samaritan Hospital is the culmination of a grassroots community effort to bring cardiac surgery to the community. With the opening of the Institute, Good Samaritan Hospital will now be able to offer advanced cardiac care to local residents, while allowing patients to stay close to their home and families for the care they need.
The Active International Cardiovascular Institute will open later this year, and the first open heart surgeries will take place in January 2007. The time in the interim is being utilized by Dr. Edward Lundy, newly-named Chief of Surgery, and hospital leadership to recruit and train the additional staff necessary to run the Institute, to establish clinical procedures and protocols, and to coordinate with other hospital services to ensure that patients receive the best possible care.
