Collegiate Risk Management, Inc, a national insurance brokerage firm specializing in student health and accident insurance, received the Outstanding Business of the Year Award in the Woman Owned/Operated category at the 20th annual ceremony held by the St. Petersburg Chamber of Commerce on May 13th.
The Chamber selected Collegiate Risk Management based on a criterion of tenacity, innovation and hard work. The company was commended for exemplary entrepreneurship, namely for longevity in the market, positive sales growth, and response to community-related projects.
Collegiate Risk Management is very active in the community, including starting their own private foundation scholarship program, Leaders of Tomorrow, which grants scholarships to students who excel despite adversity. Also, in response to the difficulties single mothers often face when saving money for their own homes, the company has established Homes and Hope for Families, to provide down payments on new homes for six deserving mothers per year. President Vonda White hopes to give single working mothers an opportunity to establish safe homes for their families while reducing the financial strain that often comes with the purchase of a new home.

She was also presented with the Women of Achievement Award from St. Petersburg CollegeÂ’s Women on the Way in January and was one of four finalists for the Network of Executive WomenÂ’s Executive Woman of the Year Award. She was also recently honored as 1st Runner Up for the Small Business AssociationÂ’s Small Business Person of the Year award in the South Florida District.
