A Healthy Spin on the Bachelorette Party, Orlando-Area Resort Offers "Boot Camp for Brides"

Forget the Vegas "Bad Girls" Bachelorette Party. The new trend is a "Good Girls" weekend in Orlando. Gaylord Palms Resort has put a practical spin on the bachelorette party by taking this popular tradition from a night of gluttonous chaos to a customized weekend getaway for the bride and her friends. The resort's newest offering is Boot Camp for Brides Challenge, an experiential offering that gives healthier ways to channel the pre-nuptial stress-level. A perfect Bachelorette Party idea for Orlando.

Suddenly, 'Bridezilla' has gone Old School. Today's brides are finding healthier ways to channel their pre-nuptial stress-level, with such programs as Boot Camp for Brides Challenge, the newest experiential offering of Gaylord Palms Resort (http://www. gaylordpalms. com), and part of its successful Good Girls Bachelorette Getaways (http://www. gaylordpalms. com/goodgirls) program, launched last year.

Gaylord Palms Resort has put a practical spin on the bachelorette party by taking this popular tradition from a night of gluttonous chaos to a customized weekend getaway for bride and friends. The Good Girls Bachelorette Getaway gives the bride the opportunity to choose from an extensive list of experiences to enjoy with her friends.

As wedding bells count down for the stressed bride-to-be, Boot Camp for Brides experiences are designed to fit within the weekend of festivities, including:

O Fit for a Bride: A 90-minute consultation giving the bride an opportunity to develop a personal plan that includes fat-burning cardio and strength-training regiments to target areas of the body so that bride or bridesmaid can fit into her special gown.

O Bridal Meditation: A 60-minute class that teaches the bride how to meditate wedding stress away at any point during the wedding planning process, whether she's on her way to a dress fitting or getting ready to walk down the aisle.

O Nutritional Engagement: A 60-minute consultation that focuses on a custom nutrition plan best suited for the bride (or bridesmaids) by identifying proper eating tips to expedite a healthy transition from engagement day to wedding day.

With experiences such as these, administered by the staff of the Canyon Ranch SpaClub Fitness Center located at Gaylord Palms Resort, the bachelorette party can be a source of positive stress release. Additional experiences such as private skin consultations and in-suite fitness classes can leave a bride feeling buff, beautiful and confident that she is on a healthier path.

"We're not taking credit for inventing the Bachelorette Getaway, but we would like to think that we've reinvented the experience to the benefit of stressed-out brides," says Amy Grimes, Experience Coordinator for Gaylord Palms Resort. "Even after her plans are finalized, the one thing the bride often stresses about is feeling and looking good on her wedding day. Many brides set unrealistic goals, which can lead them down an unhealthy wedding aisle."

The Bachelorette party comes at a crucial time during the planning process. A recent study published in the journal Appetite followed the diet patterns of 272 engaged women, and found that more than 70 percent of these brides were trying to lose on average 20+ pounds in a six month timeframe. The study also found that 20 percent of the women used "extreme" methods of losing weight, to include skipping meals, going on liquid diets, and even taking laxatives or making themselves sick.

The Gaylord Palms' "Boot Camp" program focuses on realistic goal-setting for the bride, and most importantly, is something she can experience with her supportive friends. "We're not taking the fun out of the bachelorette party," continued Grimes. "In fact, we still encourage the bride to have a crazy good time. We're just offering the bride a chance to carve out part of the weekend to focus on herself - as well as her health - before the big day."

Orlando continues to grow as a destination for weddings, honeymoons, and wedding-related activities, such as bachelor and bachelorette parties. The number of weddings held in Orlando exploded in 1991 when Walt Disney World launched its Fairy Tale Weddings service.
