Honolulu (PRWEB) March 24, 2010

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, the internationally renowned spiritual leader and humanitarian, is bringing his timely message of peace and empowerment to Honolulu on Friday, April 9, during a public appearance at the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai‘i. The event called Unlocking the Secrets of Life—An Evening of Wisdom & Meditation launches a 12-city tour of the United States and Canada hosted by the Art of Living Foundation.

Recently named one of the five most powerful people in India by Forbes Magazine, Sri Sri has inspired a global phenomenon of compassion and service through his campaign to create a Violence-Free, Stress-Free world. His non-profit organizations provide aid and relief in many of the world’s most difficult regions, including quake-stricken Haiti. His initiatives in meditation and self-development, conflict resolution, disaster relief, business and social responsibility, prisoner rehabilitation programs, youth leadership, women’s empowerment and education have impacted the lives of more than 25 million people worldwide.

Through the years, Sri Sri has conferred with many of the world’s major political, religious and business leaders, sharing the universality of the goals and values of the great spiritual traditions.

“This is an extraordinary opportunity for people across the country to meet one of the world’s most revered spiritual leaders and humanitarians,” said Michael Fischman, President of the Art of Living Foundation. “In these times torn by strife and uncertainty, his teachings are more essential than ever.”

Unlocking the Secrets of Life will run from 7 – 9:30 p. m. on Friday, April 9th at the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai‘i. Sri Sri makes life’s profound truths accessible to people of all backgrounds with inimitable wit, wisdom and simplicity of language.

Art of Living in Hawai‘i

The Art of Living Foundation’s programs, based on a powerful healing breath technique called Sudarshan Kriya, were first established in Hawai‘i in 1993. Since then, over 1,000 people on all islands and from all walks of life (including attorneys, teachers, students, housewives and corporate executives) have participated in our courses and benefited from the practices. “Sometimes people are skeptical at first, but almost everyone who follows through with regular practice reports a marked reduction in their stress levels, clearer thinking and more even emotions—some just say they feel happier and are more balanced,“ says Pauline Sheldon, Art of Living Teacher and UH professor.

In addition to group workshops, the Hawai‘i Art of Living Chapter has taught breathing techniques in the Hawai‘i prison system and is currently developing meditation training programs for Hawai‘i hotel employees and administrators.
From Hawai‘i the tour moves to Los Angeles where Sri Sri will rededicate and inaugurate a new Center, a historic former church and architectural treasure, for the Art of Living Foundation on April 14.

Founded in 1981, the Art of Living Foundation (www. artofliving. org) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) educational and humanitarian organization working in special consultative status with the United Nations Social and Economic Council on initiatives related to health, education, sustainable development, conflict resolution and disaster relief. One of the world’s largest volunteer-based organizations, the Foundation works to create a violence-free, stress-free world by strengthening the individual.
