HealthLeaders Media (www. healthleadersmedia. com), a multimedia company dedicated to meeting the business information needs of more than 100,000 healthcare executives nationwide, has announced the opening of its application process for the 2006 Top Leadership Teams in Healthcare.

This prestigious award, sponsored by Sterling Healthcare and QHR, will recognize the best senior leadership in healthcare whose teamwork significantly improves patient care at their organizations.

The award categories include:

Large hospitals/health systems (170 beds or more)  Small hospitals (fewer than 170 beds)  Health plans  Physician groups (a new award designation)

One leadership team from each of the four categories will be named a winner by a national panel of judges.

Following site visits to each of the finalists’ organizations, selection of the 2006 Top Leadership Teams in Healthcare will be based on:

Teamwork exhibited among an organization’s senior leaders to achieve stated operational goals  How the senior leadership team works together to effectively overcome any challenges/barriers encountered while working to achieve goals  The success of senior leadership in meeting the team’s goals

This year's contest will culminate in the first annual HealthLeaders Top Leadership Teams in Healthcare Conference and Awards, to be held in Nashville, TN, in June 2006. The event will feature the winning leadership teams in each category sharing their secrets of leadership, and discussing common strategies to solving urgent problems that are shared by hospitals, health plans and physician groups.

"The critical challenges facing healthcare make the need for teamwork more acute than ever," said Jim Molpus, editor of HealthLeaders magazine and Top Leadership Teams contest chairman. "Having teamwork as a core value at the very top of the healthcare organization is worthy of recognition and celebration."

The winners of last year’s 2005 Top Leadership Teams in Healthcare included MemorialCare Medical Centers, Long Beach, CA (large hospitals), Clearwater Valley Hospital and Clinics, Orofino, ID, and St. Mary’s Hospital and Clinics, Cottonwood, ID (small hospitals), and Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, Wellesley, MA (health plans).

One of last year’s honorees, Barry Arbuckle, Ph. D., president and CEO of MemorialCare Medical Centers, emphasized the importance of receiving the Top Leadership Teams in Healthcare award: “Our team at MemorialCare recognizes the Top Leadership Teams award as an important achievement,” Arbuckle said. “Our physicians, staff, and board members really celebrate the designation as testimony to the accomplishments of our highly effective teams. As a bonus, the Top Leadership Teams honor has significantly raised the profile of MemorialCare in our pursuit of healthcare’s best practices.”
