The Battle for El Bulli

The Battle for El Bulli

Veggie U's 2009 Food & Wine Celebration heats up as top chefs prepare to battle for the future of our children and a fabulous trip to El Bulli, the number one restaurant in the world!

New Castle, PA (PRWEB) June 15, 2009

33 chefs will compete at the 2009 Food and Wine Celebration for the opportunity to join Steelite International in an exclusive dining experience at the number one restaurant in the world, El Bulli in Roses, Spain. The Food and Wine Celebration takes place at the Culinary Vegetable Institute, in Milan Ohio on July 18th from 4:00 pm till 9:00 pm and features gourmet cuisine prepared by chefs from all over the country, cooking demos, wines from top vineyards and special appearances from the celebrity culinary world.

El Bulli has been named the best restaurant in the world a record 5 times and is overseen by the renowned chef Ferran Adriá. Adriá's work is a combination of gastronomy, chemistry and art. He is known for his unrivaled imagination and precision in each dish. Only accepting eight thousand of over two million reservation requests each year, dining at El Bulli is truly a once in a lifetime experience. Past winners of this culinary extravaganza include Rob Wilson, Executive Chef of the Ritz Carlton Laguna Beach; Dale Hawkins, Executive Chef of Stonewall Resort in Roanoke, West Virginia; and most recently Executive Chef Aaron Deal of Tristan in Charleston, South Carolina, who will be dining at El Bulli on October 15th of this year.

Each competing chef will face a new challenge this year. Their creation must be presented on a porcelain piece of their choice manufactured by Steelite's partner Ceramicas Industrias de Montgatina. Ferran Adriá collaborates with Montgatina on the design and development of many of their high-gastronomy ranges. The unusual shapes of the Montgatina line place a one-of-a-kind emphasis on the food it frames. It is only fitting that chefs utilize and complement Adriá's design while competing for a trip to his world-renowned restaurant.

The winner of the competition will be announced by the president of Steelite International, John Miles at the After-Chefs party immediately following the event. The all-inclusive trip will also feature a day of fine food and sightseeing in Barcelona as well as a tour of the Montgatina porcelain factory in Montgat. In addition, guests who have purchased tickets to the celebration will be entered in a drawing to win a collection of Montgatina porcelain products designed in collaboration with Ferran Adriá, the acclaimed chef at El Bulli.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the Veggie U organization. The mission of Veggie U is to promote the well-being of children through a healthy lifestyle. Veggie U creates and distributes curricula nationally, with a focus on making wise food choices, combating adolescent and juvenile disease, and attaining an understanding of sustainable agriculture.
