New Equine Rescue Organization established in South Carolina.

Anderson, SC (PRWEB) January 14, 2006

On December 10, 2005 the Board of Directors of a newly incorporated Non-Profit Equine Rescue Organization met in order to find a suitable name for their charitable Organization. The Treasurer & Secretary, Birgit Conlen said she suggested the name "PEARL", because it is a friendly acronym with a positive message behind it: Palmetto Equine Awareness and Rescue League (P. E.A. R.L.)

This group is dedicated to providing assistance to South Carolina's Animal Control Officers, Law Enforcement Officers as well as horse owners, who may need assistance understanding proper care and nutritional requirements of their equine companions.

It is P. E.A. R.L.'s philosophy that our Animal Control and Law Enforcement officers may not always be able to assess a horse’s health condition or might require assistance picking up abandoned, abused or neglected equines.

The newly elected Chair, Nicole Walukewicz explained, "We are a support group for anyone with concerns about proper care of equines. If an Officer sees an animal and feels it might be in need of assistance, we will be available to help them assess the condition and needs of the animal. If law enforcement seizes an animal and needs a place to hold it, while at the same time providing quality care and proper nutrition, we'll be there to help. If an owner - perhaps a parent bought their child a first pony and discovers they don’t really know everything involved in caring for the animal - we'll be available to help them understand the needs of a horse - medically, nutritionally and psychologically."

Nancy Traynam, the Vice Chair agrees that, "oftentimes, people want a horse, but when they bring it home they discover there is a lot more to owning and caring for it than they originally anticipated. Having an organization to call for information or assistance might pave the way to reduce the number of neglected and unwanted horses that Law Enforcement, Animal Control and Humane Societies need to deal with."

P. E.A. R.L. is dedicated to the preservation and welfare of all equines. Being an all-volunteer organization with no paid staff positions, rescue and assistance efforts are funded solely through donations, ensuring P. E.A. R.L. can help horse owners, Law Enforcement, Animal Control & Humane Societies as well as being able to provide a safe environment for equines that have endured starvation, neglect or physical abuse.
