One of the nation’s top centers for lifestyle medicine has expanded its programs to provide San Francisco, Bay Area and California residents with treatment tracks focused on weight control, smoking cessation, heart health, diabetes management and cancer prevention.
“We have enhanced our medically based lifestyle programs to better fit individual’s goals and offer more flexibility,” said James Peters, M. D. of the St. Helena Center for Health. “For some, the primary goal is to lose weight. Others want to address health issues like diabetes, high blood pressure or heart disease. After being fully immersed in our health programs, everyone leaves energized, feeling great, and prepared to live a healthier lifestyle.”
The St. Helena Center for Health has provided lifestyle medicine programs since 1969. The Transformations team of physicians, nutritionists, behavioral therapists and exercise physiologists use an integrated approach that combines evidence-based medicine with lifestyle education, healthy eating, personalized fitness programs, and relaxation.
Participants now have the option to register for three-day retreats and one - and two-week residential programs, or customize a stay for as long as they like. Clients select specific areas to improve their health, including diabetes management, heart health and cancer prevention. The core Transformations programs are:
Smoke-Free Life, which has helped thousands of individuals stop smoking. In fact, 65% of participants remain tobacco-free 12 months after completing the program, which is one of the best tobacco-cessation success rates in the nation.
Weight Management, which focuses on lasting results with an emphasis on learning to eat well and healthfully. Most participants experience dramatic metabolic changes in a few days, including lower cholesterol, blood pressure, and triglycerides. A chef prepares meals and teaches cooking classes. Participants also go on field trips with a registered dietician to restaurants and supermarkets to learn how to apply what they learn.
