Plymouth Meeting, PA (Vocus) December 17, 2009

Health Advocate™, the nation’s leading independent healthcare advocacy and assistance company, announced today that President, CEO, and cofounder Michael J. Cardillo was honored as the 2009 Enterprise Awards Life Sciences CEO of the Year. The Eastern Technology Council, in conjunction with PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP, presented the award at the 17th Annual Enterprise Awards Black-Tie Gala on December 3rd.

This prestigious award recognizes Cardillo for his leadership and management skills and the role he has played in guiding the company from a start-up to the nation’s leading health advocacy and assistance company. The Enterprise Awards are the Philadelphia region’s preeminent business honor, celebrating the vitality of the technology and life sciences communities. At this year’s gala, held at the Hilton Philadelphia City Avenue, more than 900 business leaders and executives gathered to laud the region’s top companies, executives, and entrepreneurs.

“It is a great honor to accept this award on behalf of our company,” said Cardillo. “I want to thank my other partners who worked with me to build our company. And most of all, I want to thank all of our dedicated employees who work tirelessly every day to help our clients and their employees with their important health-related issues.”

“Mike has been instrumental in leading our company from our inception,” commented Martin Rosen, Chief Marketing Officer and cofounder. “His guidance and insight have created the framework for our success.”

Prior to helping to found Health Advocate, Cardillo served as President of Aetna U. S Healthcare from April 1996 through May 2000. Managing a $20 billion budget, Cardillo transformed Aetna U. S. Healthcare into the nation's largest healthcare company, providing a range of medical, dental, pharmacy, group life and disability plans for 29 million Americans. Prior to Aetna’s 1996 acquisition of U. S. Healthcare, Cardillo occupied several top-level executive positions at U. S. Healthcare, rising from Chief Marketing Officer to Executive Vice President before eventually serving as Co-president. Previously, Cardillo worked at the Xerox Corporation for 17 years and held a range of senior-level national and regional sales marketing and operations positions.
