Beginning in January 2010, Wag Hotels (http://www. waghotels. com), the ultimate stay and play resort for pets, will offer T hank Dog! Bootcamp (http://www. thankdogbootcamp. com), a fast-paced way for dogs and guardians to get into shape. Thank Dog! is a fitness program that combines discipline and a strenuous physical workout for people, together with basic obedience training for dogs. Your dog is your workout partner!

With locations in San Francisco, West Sacramento and Roseville, Wag Hotels is committed to the health and well being of dogs and their guardians. Thank Dog! offers a creative and challenging fitness program for their human and canine clients. With the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention reporting a 44% obesity rate for dogs and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention reporting a 67% obesity rate for Americans over the age of twenty, Thank Dog! Bootcamp offers a fun way to slim down, get healthy, and spend time with your dog.

Wag Hotel's San Francisco Thank Dog! Bootcamp classes are run by personal trainer Cassie Shannon and certified dog trainer Frances Hurley. Each hour-long class is structured to provide cardiovascular training, obedience training and strength training for guardian and dog. Classes will be taught from 6-7am on location at Wag Hotels in San Francisco and at designated local outdoor spaces. Dogs remain on-leash throughout the class, and are taught to listen and obey their guardian’s commands. Guardians receive an intense bootcamp-style workout from their personal trainer while getting tips and instruction on obedience training from the dog trainer.

Thank Dog! is designed for people and dogs at all physical and behavioral levels. Dogs and guardians attend a mandatory consultation and obedience lesson before entering the program. Dogs are evaluated for temperament, and their guardians are assessed and provided with realistic goals and expectations for their fitness regimen.

Wag Hotels’ goal is to provide healthy fun for every pet - whether through supervised All Day Play (doggie day care), overnight boarding, or Thank Dog! fitness classes. The hotel’s loving and professional staff ensure that pets stay happy, become well socialized, and receive plenty of exercise. Wag Care 360, Wag’s industry leading approach to pet care, offers the highest quality of all around care for the health and well being of every dog or cat.

“Wag Hotels and Thank Dog Bootcamp were a natural fit; both share the same specialized and innovative approach to pet care,” said Wag Hotels President and CEO Richard Groberg. “I am looking forward to taking the classes myself.”

“The program works out really well. Guardians and dogs get a great workout at the same time,” says Jill Bowers, certified dog trainer and President and Co-Founder of Thank Dog! Bootcamp. “It really saves time and money by combining three services into one – a fitness program for you, obedience training for your dog, and a day in the park for both of you.”

“You will be sore initially, but you will also see real measurable results,” says Cassie Shannon, certified personal trainer. “This is not your cutesy workout – this is bootcamp!”

About the Trainers:
Cassie Shannon Personal Trainer & Northern California Manager - Cassie is a certified personal trainer and coach who was born and raised in Los Altos, CA. At a young age Cassie defined herself by her athletic ability and competitive spirit; as a little girl she was usually found playing tackle football with the boys. In high school Cassie competed on the Varsity track team for four years. She continued with this pursuit after graduation, running track for the University of Arizona until she was hit by a drunk driver in 2007. After six months of recovery and intensive physical therapy, Cassie returned to the sports world, joining the University’s Women’s Club Lacrosse Team. She was ultimately named the team’s “Most Inspirational Player.” Cassie’s perseverance was further recognized by the University with a special award at her graduation ceremony in May of 2009. Cassie is full of energy, and her personal experience and dedication to athletics makes her a one-of-a-kind trainer. She now runs the Walnut Creek Bootcamp and instructs new trainers for the Northern California Region for Thank Dog! Bootcamp with her two-year-old lab mix, Lola.

Frances Hurley, (certified dog trainer) - Frances has always enjoyed the company of animals. From a young age, she knew that she was destined for a career working with animals. Her first job was at a doggy day care facility, where her passion grew and her focus turned to dogs. In an effort to gain further experience, Frances undertook additional responsibilities at the facility, including running play groups, socializing puppies, walking dogs and assisting in behavioral training sessions. Frances’ decision to join the team at ThankDog! Bootcamp was a natural choice; she joined the team as a dog trainer, thereby allowing her to continue her education working with dogs and their owners. After weeks of hands-on training, dog handling and classroom work, Frances was certified by Thank Dog! Bootcamp. She now leads dog training classes at Wag Hotels in San Francisco. She thrives on building a rewarding relationship with the dogs that she trains and believes that a dog with solid basic obedience training makes for a peaceful home environment, and a happy and fit friend for life. frances(at)thankdogbootcamp(dot)com
