Walden University, a leading online university, recently graduated more than 3,500 students who hail from 19 countries. The graduation ceremony took place Saturday, July 26, at the University of Minnesota's Northrop Auditorium and included the first graduates of the Walden University/Universidad del Valle de México (UVM) Bachelor of Science Dual Degree Program. Rt. Hon. Lord Malloch-Brown, Britain's Minister of State for Africa, Asia and the U. N. in the Foreign & Commonwealth Office and a former deputy secretary-general of the United Nations, gave the commencement address.

"As we proudly recognize and congratulate this most recent graduating class in Walden's 38-year history, we also look forward to our expanding reach and growing impact as a global university," said Jonathan A. Kaplan, president of Walden University. "Every day, students from more than 70 countries around the world build personal and professional relationships internationally that last a lifetime."

Malloch-Brown was appointed to his minister post in June 2007 and previously served as the U. N. deputy secretary-general, the second-ranking position in the United Nations. He addressed Walden graduates and guests about the importance of applying their education and research to better the world around them.

The first 27 university graduates from the dual degree program received a B. S. in Business Administration from Walden, in addition to their Licenciatura in Business Administration from UVM. Family, friends and officials from Mexico joined the graduates at the commencement ceremony as they received their degrees from Walden, an accredited online university.
