The results will be shared with all survey participants and will offer benchmarks leading to stronger recruitment and retention strategies. Results of a similar 2003 survey (the final report can be obtained at http://hodes. com/healthcarematters/index. html (http://hodes. com/healthcarematters/index. html)) of 151 health care recruiters covered the following categories for nurses and select categories of allied health professionals: cost-per-hire, days-to-fill, vacancy rates, turnover rates, difficulty-to-fill, recruitment and retention, and tactic effectiveness.

“We believe by once again conducting this survey we can support our Hodes clients in health care recruitment by providing insight and hard data to evaluate their efforts,” said Karen Hart, Senior Vice President, Health Care Division. “The results offer health care organizations a framework to evaluate their strengths and weaknesses so they may re-engineer their hiring processes to attract the nurses and allied health professionals they sorely need.”

Results of the 2003 survey revealed the average number of full-time equivalent RNs at the respondentsÂ’ hospitals were 416, with RN turnover at 15.5%, higher than within the allied health categories (13.1% average). At $2,651, RN cost-per-hire was approximately 11% higher than the average cost ($2,396) reported for recruiting allied health workers. Among allied health workers recruiting radiology technologists was at the top with the highest cost-per-hire at $2,748, followed by pharmacists at $2,667, and physical therapists at $2,430.
