Mentora To Teach at Software Quality Engineering's STAREAST

Dan Downing, Vice President of Testing, to conduct training on software load testing with the open source testing tool OpenSTA on May 5.

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) February 25, 2008

Mentora Group, Inc., a leader in application hosting and testing, announced today that Dan Downing will teach a half-day hands-on training class "Load Testing with OpenSTA" at Software Quality Engineering's STAREAST 2008 conference at the Rosen Centre Hotel in Orlando, FL on May 5.

"As an Open Source performance testing tool, OpenSTA offers an attractive alternative for load testing but it can be tough to use it efficiently and effectively without the training you can get for commercial products," said Dan Downing, Mentora VP of Testing. "I look forward to sharing the best practices for load testing and the OpenSTA-specific techniques and workarounds Mentora has developed through real-life experience."

The five steps of load testing: Discover, Develop, Run, Fix and Report, will be discussed and demonstrated as Mr. Downing uses OpenSTA on a real performance testing project. Templates and tools to supplement OpenSTA's features and overcome some of its limitations, particularly in that area of results analysis, will be provided. He will also provide insights into how best to access and leverage ongoing support from the online Open Source community. "Like many of the valuable STAREAST sessions I've attended, it's targeted to provide specific information that novice or experienced testers can apply on their next project", added Mr. Downing.

"For the past six years, Dan has been a favorite speaker at the STAREAST and STARWEST testing conferences. His presentations have added significantly to the field of performance testing by defining processes for effective load and stress testing. In addition, he explains how to produce compelling presentations of test results. His techniques are applicable both to internally developed applications and third-party systems such as Oracle, SAP and PeopleSoft," stated Lee Copeland, Senior Consultant at Software Quality Engineering.

Mentora Group uses OpenSTA for its value eCommerce load testing services and HP LoadRunner for its premium performance testing services for. Net, java, WebSphere MQ, EDI and ERP applications. It also offers Web-based training on both LoadRunner and OpenSTA.
