Jenny's Light Now Accepting Grant Proposals
Organization To Fund Groups Addressing Postpartum Depression
Minneapolis (PRWEB) September 23, 2010
Jenny’s Light, a national non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness of perinatal mood disorders, is accepting proposals for its Fall 2010 grant initiative. The organization will award up to a total of $20,000 to eligible groups that are helping to increase awareness of perinatal mood disorders, such as postpartum depression (PPD).
Various projects will be funded and should be designed to improve knowledge and identification of PPD symptoms, provide supportive resources, improve provider ability to recognize and treat PPD, or lessen the stigma often associated with perinatal mood disorders.
Founded in 2007, Jenny's Light’s mission is to improve and save lives by raising awareness of all perinatal mood disorders through its national grant program and a wide array of other activities, including a kids’ triathlon series. In just the past two years, the organization has raised and distributed more than $60,000 in grants for postpartum education programs around the United States.
“We’ve had such a great response to our grant program and we are very proud of the support we’ve been able to provide groups for their PPD outreach efforts,” said Randy Gibbs, executive director of Jenny’s Light. “We want to continue to reach and make a positive impact on as many women, families and health care professionals around the country as possible.”
Applications for the Fall 2010 Jenny’s Light Grant Program will be accepted through October 29, 2010. Grant applicants will be notified of their award status in January 2011.
This past May, grants were distributed to organizations in Michigan, Massachusetts, Ohio, Virginia and California that supported a wide range of PPD awareness and education efforts, including volunteer and parent group development, special awareness events, educational materials for military families and maternal health care providers, and education for nursing and other healthcare students.
