New Officers Elected by American College of Nurse Practitioners Members

The American College of Nurse Practitioners (ACNP) has announced the results of the most recent election for positions on the 2004-2005 Board of Directors.

American College of Nurse Practitioners (ACNP) has announced the results of the most recent election for positions on the 2004-2005 Board of Directors:

President-Elect/Vice President – Judy Hendricks, MS, ANP, Newark, Delaware

Treasurer – Juliet A. Santos, MSN, RN, CCRN, FNP, Fenton, Michigan

Individual Member Representative – Thad Wilson, APRN, PhD,

Kansas City, Missouri

National Affiliate Representative – Lynn Chilton, DSN, GNP/FNP, Daphne, Alabama

State Affiliate Representative – Janet Selway, CANP, CPNP, DNSc (c),

White Hall, Maryland

Judy Hendricks is currently Assistant Professor in the Nurse Practitioner Program at the University of Delaware and has had an ANP internal medicine practice since 1983. On a national level, Hendricks is a founding member of ACNP and a past board member (1994). Locally, she has served on the Delaware Board of Nursing (1992-8) and was president for two years. She has been the chair of the Board's Joint Practice Committee since its inception in 1995 and was a member of the APRN task force of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing from 1997-1998. In 2000 and 2002, Hendricks also ran close campaigns for state representative in the 23rd district.

Juliet Alfonso-Santos is in private Family Practice in Taylor, Michigan. She is the Executive Director for the NP Mentorship Group, President and CEO of the JA Santos Consultants, LLC, co-founder of the Michigan Council of Nurse Practitioners and an Adjunct Clinical Faculty at Michigan State University. Santos is currently working on championing NP empanelment as Primary Care Providers in Michigan HMOs and the inclusion of NPs as reimbursed healthcare providers in labor union contracts.

Thad Wilson is an Associate Professor at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Nursing. For the last nine years he has coordinated the FNP program at UMKC. He has

Been a practicing Family Nurse Practitioner since 1981, primarily in urban settings and clinics where he has been able to use his Spanish language skills. He has served as Director of the Mid America Immunization Coalition and is a strong local and regional voice for advanced practice nursing.

Lynn Chilton has been a Nurse Practitioner for 18 years, being certified as both a Geriatric and a Family Nurse Practitioner. She is currently a Professor in the graduate NP program at the University of South Alabama. Her practice settings include an ambulatory rural clinic and a volunteer NP position at a shelter. She is a member of the steering committee of the National Conference of Gerontological Nurse Practitioners (NCGNP), Chair of the ANCC Certification Exam Committee, and finishing a term as co-chair of the ACNP Public Policy Committee. Chilton was re-elected to the position of National Affiliate Representative after serving in the same position since 2002.

Janet Selway is currently a Clinical Instructor at the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing, where she is also a DNSc Candidate. Her clinical areas of interest include: trauma outcomes in older adults; urgent care; and family practice. Selway is a past board member of ACNP (1996-8) and is a past President of the Nurse Practitioner Association of Maryland (1993-6). She has led the nursing delegation in the People to People Ambassadors Program to China in 2002, South Africa in 2000, and China in 1999.

Two new members of the Nominating Committee were also elected: Patricia T. Leavitt, MS, FNP of Buxton, Maine elected as Individual Member Representative to the committee; and Laura Miller, FNP, MSN, of Berkeley, California, as Individual Member Representative.

The new officers and directors will take office at the conclusion of the National Nurse Practitioner Summit, to be held February 7-10, 2004 in Washington, DC. ACNP would like to thank all the qualified candidates that ran for offices this year.
