NYC Homebound Deserve Access to Affordable, Healthy and Delicious Meals
Year old Westchester service expands throughout the five boroughs
New York, NY (PRWEB) January 21, 2011
According to the New York City Department for the Aging’s Profile of Older New Yorkers, 20 percent of older residents are mobility-impaired, making it difficult for them to access even the closest markets and restaurants. Top Chef Meals, a mid-Westchester based preparer/creator of gourmet prepared dishes for a new and unique home meal service, has delivered over 7,000 high-quality and nutritious meals to Westchester County's seniors and disabled since its inception in January 2010. With the opening of a new office in Manhattan, residents of Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx and Staten Island can benefit from the same service.
“I had not realized how difficult it is for the homebound to eat nutritious affordable meals until my own 80-year-old father commented about his limited food options,” says Paul Ghiron, president of corporate caterer Crystal Spoon and founder of Top Chef Meals, “He was stuck between choosing from the poor tasting unhealthy supermarket frozen meals and the high cost of restaurants fare. Unable to afford to eat out every meal, he commented that if the high sodium content of typical supermarket meals didn’t kill him, his cardiologist would for eating them. Seeing food through my dad’s eyes, I was inspired to look at Crystal Spoon in a different way and think about how we might combine our production efficiency with gourmet chef talents to create a line of tasty and affordable dishes for home delivery.”
Customers select from a menu of close to five dozen main and side dishes, soups, desserts, and breakfast items at a price of $6.85 per entrée plus two sides, with a 20 percent discount for seniors that brings the price down to $5.50. “My daughter purchased a package of meals for me and I enjoyed them so much, I purchased another package right away,” said Anna Claudio, a Bronx resident. “Top Chef Meals makes it easy for me to eat balanced, healthy meals that taste like they came from a gourmet restaurant.”
Top Chef Meals represents Ghiron’s commitment toward reasonably priced, healthy, nutritious, home-delivered meals. The care and preparation that Crystal Spoon perfected for their corporate clientele are the same for Top Chef Meals. With its' recent expansion of production, storage, and freezer space to handle 4,800 meals per day, the company is poised to handle the tremendous demand from NYC residents.
"Top Chef Meals has represented a vast upgrade in value, flexibility and service for our organization,” said Frank Geritano, Director of Home Delivered Meals at the Stanley Isaacs Neighborhood Center located on E. 93rd Street. “The quality of their food has been exceptional and we are pleased to offer our clients such a superior service.”
Top Chef Meals received the Best of Westchester Award for Company With a Heart from Westchester Magazine in 2010 and was acknowledged for its commitment to reducing hunger in county residents.
