On Sunday, January 2nd, Grantham University celebrated its diamond anniversary - 60 years of meeting the educational needs of working adult students. The University was founded in 1951 by a veteran for veterans. Donald Grantham established the University, then the Grantham School of Electronics, by offering F. C.C. License certification courses to veterans returning home from World War II. Mr. Grantham had a simple mission and vision: to give veterans the option for continuing education and the opportunity to further their careers and create a better life for their families.

Sixty years later, Grantham University offers accredited 100% online degrees in a variety of majors including Business Management, Computer Science, Criminal Justice, Engineering Technology, Information Systems Security, and Nursing. Continuing Mr. Grantham’s vision for the school, Grantham’s flexible distance learning programs open the doors of opportunity for working adults to earn an associate, bachelor’s or master’s degree regardless of their location or work schedule.

“What this University has accomplished over the last sixty years is truly amazing and humbling,” said Dr. Fredrick Snow, president of Grantham University. “With just a few hundred students in the beginning, it has grown to over 13,000 students, and weathered many challenges, including the devastation of Hurricane Katrina five and one half years ago.”

Grantham’s mission is to provide accessible, affordable, professionally relevant degree programs in a continuously changing global society. At the heart of that mission is Grantham’s continued commitment to meeting the educational needs of our nation’s military service members and veterans. While veterans no longer comprise 100% of its student body, the University has remained true to Donald Grantham’s commitment to serving the academic needs of those who serve our country through scholarship programs, an interactive online learning environment, and a solid student support structure.

“Just as the University has had a unique history during its six decades of education, our students and alumni are truly one of a kind and have overcome many obstacles to earn their degrees,” said Dr. Snow. “I encourage you to take a few moments to get to know them and the University by reading their Graduate Spotlightstories.”
