Diamond Resorts International® Kicks Off Employee Fitness Challenge

Diamond Resorts International® Kicks Off Employee Fitness Challenge

Tackles health and wellness head on with fitness program and provides tools to help team members build positive 'life balance' to promote safe and healthy workplace environment.

Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) January 28, 2010

Diamond Resorts International® (DRI), a global leader in the vacation ownership industry, has today announced the launch of their corporate 'DRIvenSM to Fitness' challenge to promote a healthy lifestyle for employees.

"We're tackling health and wellness head on," says Stephen J. Cloobeck, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Diamond Resorts International®. "Our team members are the backbone of this organization and it is our responsibility as good corporate citizens to provide and maintain a safe and positive work environment."

Kicking off 'DRIvenSM to Fitness… fueled by the power of we' at Diamond Resorts International® begins with a backyard barbeque feast for the participants. And with close to a 50% participation rate at the global headquarters, excitement is making its way all the way to the boardroom. Cloobeck signed up and will weigh in with his team on Monday, February 1, and challenged his corporate leadership to lead by example. "Every manager has to participate. Effective managers lead by example and I want my leadership living a healthy lifestyle, too. We continue to invest in our human capital with training and organizational development best practices through our University of Excellence, and our DRIvenSM to Fitness program will include the support of a nutritionist and a professional trainer."

When DRI opened their global headquarters, they installed a fitness center that has seen mediocre use. And those that are using the facilities aren't exercising properly. Additionally, faced with rising insurance premiums and an increase in medical and prescription benefits usage, Cloobeck teamed with Steve Bell, Executive Vice President, Global Human Resources, to proactively tackle the health and wellness issues plaguing the workforce. "We reached out to our insurance broker and brainstormed ideas with our in-house benefits and training teams to come up with solutions and tools to motivate team members, build morale and get them feeling better about themselves. Of course we had a fiduciary responsibility to the company but we were more concerned with the health and wellness of our team members," said Bell.

The 90-day DRIvenSM to Fitness program includes team weigh-ins and outs, and the Company has brought a nutritionist and professional trainer on board for the duration of the program. Throughout the program, educational classes will be offered on topics such as breaking old eating habits, cooking lean and living healthy. "Healthy and happy team members perform better," said Cloobeck, "and when they're performing at the top of their game, the Diamond community benefits worldwide."
