Orthopedic surgeon, Michael K. Shindle, M. D., has recently joined Summit Medical Group.
Dr. Shindle has expertise in foot and ankle surgery and sports medicine-related injuries of the knee and shoulder. He has been Assistant Team Physician for the NFL New York Giants and MLS New York Red Bulls. An associate member of the USA Hockey Coaching Education Program, Dr. Shindle has been Assistant Coach for the Madison High School Varsity Ice Hockey Team in Madison, N. J., and Graduate Assistant Coach and Captain for the University of Delaware Ice Hockey Team, Newark, Del.
Dr. Shindle earned his B. A. magna cum laude at the University of Delaware, and he earned his M. D. at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Md. During medical school, he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Honor Society. He completed his surgical internship at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center and he completed his residency at the Hospital for Special Surgery, all in New York City, N. Y. Dr. Shindle completed his fellowship in sports medicine and shoulder surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery, where he was Assistant Team Physician for the NFL New York Giants and MLS New York Red Bulls. He completed a second fellowship in foot and ankle surgery under the direction of Roger Mann, M. D., in Oakland, Calif.
Dr. Shindle's research interests are primarily devoted to sports foot and ankle injuries, rotator cuff repair, and articular cartilage injuries. He is the coauthor of articles, abstracts, and book chapters on these and related topics, some of which are published in peer-reviewed scientific journals such as Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, American Journal of Sports Medicine, and Arthroscopy.
Dr. Shindle has presented more than 21 local, regional, national and international invited presentations in his field. He is a member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, Arthroscopic Association of North America, American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society, Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, and American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, among others.
Dr. Shindle is a native of Madison, N. J., where he lives with his family.
