MedHost Accommodates the ED with its Powerful Solution for JCAHOÂ’s New ED Overcrowding Standards

MedHost is Ahead of the Curve with Compliant Product in Place for Year 2004 Standards

(PRWEB) November 19, 2003

Upon announcement of the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) 2004 National Patient Safety Goals, MedHost presented existing and soon-to-be Customers with the powerful solutions of its Emergency Department Management System (EDMS).

Beginning January 1, 2004, nearly 17,000 JCAHO-accredited healthcare organizations will be assessed for their compliance with these goals. The ED-specific goals focus on the development and implementation of strategies for identifying and diminishing circumstances that lead to ED overcrowding.

Surveyors from JCAHO recently visited Memorial Hermann Baptist Beaumont HospitalÂ’s ED, a site that installed MedHost EDMS Tracking and Nurse Charting in June of 2003. The surveyors received a demonstration of MedHost EDMS and noted how the electronic documentation was comprehensive while easy to use with ample options and reminders.

According to Jason Bedair, ED Manager at Memorial Hermann Baptist, “The Joint Commission physician surveyor was highly impressed with MedHost documentation and remarked that you don’t get documentation as good as ours on accident.” Bedair said it helps tremendously that the ED staff enjoys using Nurse Charting, as high user compliance aids in the monitoring and performance improvement processes. Bedair continued, “He (the surveyor) concluded by saying that I have an excellent, well-run department. MedHost was a huge contributor to this success.”

In addition to EDMS Tracking and Nurse Charting, Bedair stated that he utilizes EDMS Reports, sharing the data with physicians, nurses, risk management, and administrators for process improvement. MedHostÂ’s comprehensive reports, such as Inpatient Reasons for Delay and Selected Patient Volume by Time of Day, assist organizational leaders in identifying and acting upon impediments to efficient patient flow. Bedair and the ED staff perform quality management with the reports, including easy monitoring of patient complaints, physician turnaround times, and more. Furthermore, the reports provide specific critical performance indicators for measuring the efficiency and safety of support and ancillary services that are part of the patient flow process for ED patients. MedHostÂ’s real-time reports also assist EDs with demand prediction and response.

MedHostÂ’s team of highly trained clinical consultants work with each Customer from planning to implementation and to post-implementation by analyzing each EDÂ’s situation, needs, and goals. The consultants are prepared to meet the JCAHO-compliant needs of each Customer, including tracking of patient risk management, syndromic episodes, and patients placed in overflow locations such as hallways. MedHost EDMS is there to help ensure regulatory compliance so that Customers can focus on patient care.
