Medical Breakthroughs Web Site Named a

Finalist in Online Journalism Awards

NEW YORK, September 20, 2002 -- Ivanhoe. com was named a finalist today for the third annual Online Journalism Awards by the Online News Association and the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism.

The contest, which honors excellence in Internet journalism, received 728 entries from 10 countries and was judged by a team of distinguished journalism leaders.

Headquartered in Winter Park, Fla., Ivanhoe. com was selected one of four finalists in the "General Excellence in Online Journalism" for independent Web sites. The selection was made for Ivanhoe. com's coverage of medical news and health information. The category honors Web sites with fewer than 200,000 unique visitors per month that represent the highest journalistic standards.

Winners will be announced at the OJA Awards Banquet during the third national conference of the Online News Association on Friday, Oct. 18, 2002 in New York City.

"For the third year in a row, we had a very competitive field of entries," said Sreenath Sreenivasan, administrator of the awards and a professor of new media at Columbia. "Once again, the finalists are a showcase of high quality reporting, writing and production that will inspire journalists from around the world." Sreenivasan did not serve as a judge.

The Online Journalism Awards, or OJAs as they are known, are among several other major journalism awards administered by Columbia, including the Pulitzer Prizes, the National Magazine Awards, the Alfred I. duPont-Columbia Awards for broadcast journalism and the Maria Moors Cabot Prizes for inter-American understanding.
