Tarrant Council Receives $150,000 Grant to Help Transition Youth into the Workplace
Young workers to receive free workplace training
Fort Worth, TX (PRWEB) November 5, 2004
Tarrant Council on Alcoholism & Drug Abuse received a $150,000 grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to help transition youth in North Texas into the workplace.
The Youth Transition into the Workplace grant is one of SAMHSAÂs Service-to-Science grants designed to document and evaluate innovative practices that provide substance abuse prevention and early intervention programs tailored for younger employees ages 16 to 24. Tarrant Council is one of 13 agencies nationwide that received the grant.
ÂWorkplaces are one of a few important transition points for youth in our society, from school to work, and from youth to young adult, says Eric Niedermayer, executive director of Tarrant Council. ÂResearch on youthful workers indicates a positive relationship between the number of hours worked to social and health problems, including alcohol and drug use.Â
As part of the grant project, businesses in North Texas may be eligible to receive free workplace intervention programs for employees ages 16 to 24. For more information, contact Kelly Heath at 817-332-6329, ext. 219, or visit us at www. tarrantcouncil. org.
