Donor Sperm Bank Offers New Family Forums, Medical Updates

Cryogenic Laboratories, Inc, (CLI), which provides donor sperm and sperm storage, is providing two new services for clients who have used CLI donor sperm and for their offspring. CLI Family Forums offers a way for adult offspring and clients to connect with others who have used donor sperm from CLI and Check Donor Medical Status provides annual updated medical information for their donor.

"Cryogenic Laboratories, Inc (http://www. cryolab. com)., (CLI) values our clients and the families we help to create. It is because we care about the continued health and well being of our clients and their families that we have created two very exciting new features: CLI Family Forums (http://www. cryolab. com/forums/index. php) and CLI Check Donor Medical Status (http://www. cryolab. com/checkdonormedicalstatus. shtml) says CLI's Director of Operations, Michelle Ottey, PhD. Based in Roseville, MN, Cryogenic Laboratories, Inc. offers superior donor sperm and sperm banking services, including sperm storage (http://www. cryolab. com/reasons. shtml) and embryo storage. CLI is one of the few sperm banks fully accredited by the American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB). Donor insemination began almost 40 years ago, yet most donor offspring and clients who used donor sperm rely on a patchwork of organizations outside the realm of the sperm banks to find one another and share common experiences.

The new CLI Family Forums allow women and couples who used donor insemination (DI) and adults conceived by DI to connect with one another, and share photos, stories and experiences. CLI is one of the few sperm banks offering clients a chance to connect. With a registered pregnancy, one can join a donor specific forum and connect with others who used the same donor. When using online organizations outside the sperm bank, clients must trust that those they are connecting with are who they say they are and that donor and offspring information is accurate. They also pay a fee. That is not the case when using the CLI Family Forums. "As the sperm bank with access to our own client and donor records, we are able to verify information, be selective in those we grant access to in the private donor forums and also make sure donor personal and medical information is correct while protecting anonymity of all parties involved at no cost to our clients," says Dr. Michelle Ottey, Director of Operations for CLI.

Benefits of participating in the CLI Forums include: helping new families navigate telling their children about donor conception by listening and talking with others who have been there; fostering an environment of openness; providing an accepting environment for DI conceived individuals, and addressing the unique needs of single women, infertile and single sex couples through shared experiences.

"CLI is excited to offer this service for our clients. We recognize the importance of open communication, sharing of health and medical information, and the positive relationships that can develop from these connections. It is for those reasons that we created the CLI Family Forums. The best place to share and gather information is at the source," says Dr. Ottey.

The CLI Check Donor Medical Status link is a way for clients to easily access accurate and verified medical update information on the CLI website. A client simply needs to go to the Check Donor Medical Status page, enter their order/donor information and they will have access to any updated medical information.
"CLI recognizes the critical importance of continued medical updates from our donors and so we have implemented an easy to access annual update for all of our donors. It allows us to verify their identity and have our Medical Director review all relevant medical information for accuracy before we post the update in the donor's profile," says Dr. Ottey.
