Pima Medical Institute Celebrates 35 Years in Healthcare Education

Pima Medical Institute, with campuses in Seattle and Renton, celebrate 35 years in healthcare education.

Seattle, WA (PRWEB) October 31, 2007

In the same year that President Nixon made an unprecedented eight-day visit to China, M*A*S*H premiered on CBS and Carole King first sang You've Got A Friend, Pima Medical Institute first opened its doors. Thirty-five years later, Pima Medical Institute, with a campus in Seattle at 9709 Third Avenue NE, Suite 400 and 555 S. Renton Village Place in Renton, PMI has successfully placed thousands of men and women in careers in healthcare.

Founded by Richard Luebke Sr. and his wife, JoAnn, the privately-owned, career college opened its first campus in Tucson in 1972. The Seattle school has been in operation since 1989; the Renton campus opened its doors in 2004. In addition to these schools, PMI has campuses in Albuquerque, New Mexico; Mesa and Tucson, AZ., Denver and Colorado Springs, CO; Las Vegas, NV and Chula Vista, CA.

Although initially PMI offered business related programs such as Grocery Checking, PBX Operator and Hotel Motel Management, Luebke Sr. was inundated with requests to train nursing aids and in 1973 he shifted the focus to healthcare. PMI began its first medical program and ran five classes at a time for nurses' aids and medical receptionists. More than three decades have passed, and careers in healthcare are still going strong.

Luebke started his career in education working for other school franchises. He earned a reputation as a "firefighter" - someone who was always cleaning up after someone else. He knew that if he could run things his way, he, and the students who came to his school, would be successful. Thirty-five years later, Pima Medical Institute has earned the reputation of being one of the top career colleges in the U. S.

"The secret to success is being right - run your business right, treat people right, and give your students their money's worth," said Luebke Sr. "Survival in the school industry can be brutal. Too many companies run their operation like it's a fast food franchise. It's more than "making the donuts" each day. It's personalized, it's family and it's loyalty to all. That's why Pima has survived."

The Seattle campus opened in 1989 and offers programs for Dental Assistant, Medical Assistant, Medical Administrative Assistant, Pharmacy Technician, Phlebotomy Technician, Physical Therapist Assistant, Radiography (Associate of Occupational Science), Veterinary Assistant and Veterinary Technician.

PMI's newest campus in Renton opened in 2004. Its programs include: Dental Assistant; Medical Assistant; Medical Administrative Assistant; Pharmacy Technician; Phlebotomy Technician and Veterinary Assistant.

PMI is one of the premier medical career colleges in the western United States. The privately owned, accredited school provides students with a well-rounded education embracing theoretical classroom studies, as well as on-site training at medical facilities that mirror the working environment they will pursue after graduation.
