Association for Environmental Health & Sciences Foundation and Adventus Group Recognize Future Environmental Science Leaders

Remediation biotechnology firm announces winners of its 6th annual student award program.

SAN DIEGO, CA (Vocus) March 30, 2010

The Adventus Group, an international remediation biotechnology enterprise, has rejoined the Association for Environmental Health & Sciences Foundation (AEHS Foundation) to recognize talented, emerging environmental scientists during the “20th Annual International Conference on Soils, Sediments, Water, and Energy” held in San Diego.

Two $500 awards were given for the best student presentations from among the diverse participants
During the conference. This year’s winners were:

Ms. Kimberly Rickman, California State University at Long Beach, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, for her platform presentation on ”Removing Pharmaceuticals from Contaminated Waters using Radical Reactions”.

Mr. Ryoji, Kyoto University, Port and Airport Research Institute, Coastal and Estuarine Environment Research Group, for his poster presentation on “Environmental Fate of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in Sediments of Nagoya Port”.

More details will be posted on the student award “Winner’s Circle” archives, located online at http://www. adventusgroup. com/library/studentawards. shtml (http://www. adventusgroup. com/library/studentawards. shtml)

“A main component of the AEHS Foundation’s mission is to facilitate communication and foster cooperation among professionals concerned with protecting an increasingly fragile environment,” said Dr. Paul Kostecki, President of the Foundation. “There can be great value in a public and private sector partnership, if executed properly. Through the generosity of Adventus, this year’s event marks their 6th annual sponsorship of the awards. It is clear the Adventus Student Award competition is an excellent way to encourage outstanding students to share their work, and give our members a chance to see what’s on the minds of the next generation.”

“Once again, we had to select from amongst an extremely talented group of internationally diverse young environmentalists,” said Dr. Alan Seech, CEO of Adventus Group. “They all displayed well conceived research, reinforced with strong presentation skills. Selecting the winning themes was extremely difficult, and we believe the industry will be hearing more from these students in years ahead. As Adventus seeks to develop the next generation of remediation biotechnologies, it remains our privilege to showcase the important role a partnership with the academic community and private sector organizations can play. Adventus is committed to continue sponsoring this exciting event, and we salute all the participants – especially our award winners.”

The presentations were judged by representatives of Adventus Americas Inc. and the Conference Scientific Advisory Board – on the criterion of originality, organization, communication with the audience, research techniques and overall quality of the presentation. The judges this year included Charles Blanchard (Groundwater & Environmental Services), Cristin Bruce (Shell), Rodney Crother (Stantec), Steve Eikenberry (AEHS affiliate), Paul Hadley( California DTSC), Susan Henry (AEHS affiliate), Jim Jacobs (EBS Info), Yue Rong (California RWQCB), Anna Willett (ITRC), Sam Williams (GeoSyntec), along with Alan Seech from Adventus Americas Inc.
