Gibbs College in Cranston Announces New Business Concentration in Casino Operations
Associate degree prepares students for supervisory positions in booming gaming industry.

Students will be able to earn an Associate in Science degree in Business Operations with a concentration in Casino Operations (http://www. gibbsri. edu/programs/casino-concentration. asp) in as little as 18 months.
Responding to new job and employment trends, Gibbs College (http://www. gibbsri. edu) updates and adds programs to meet the career demands of numerous growth industries. Employment in gaming services occupations (http://www. gibbsri. edu/programs/casino-concentration. asp) is projected to grow faster than average for all occupations through 2012, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook. Job prospects are considered brightest for those applicants who possess an degree or certification in gaming (http://www. gibbsri. edu/programs/casino-concentration. asp) or other hospitality-related field.
"The steady growth of our industry could translate to a 20-35% increase nationally in demand for new talent over the next ten years," said JoAnn Webber, Senior Vice President of Human Resources at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut. The casino operations concentration (http://www. gibbsri. edu/programs/casino-concentration. asp) is a broad academic program, giving students a deep understanding of business principles related to gaming operations and training (http://www. gibbsri. edu/programs/casino-concentration. asp).
The casino operations (http://www. gibbsri. edu/programs/casino-concentration. asp) concentration includes relevant professional studies in the areas of cash management, gaming management (http://www. gibbsri. edu/programs/casino-concentration. asp), current trends in casino gaming and legal and regulatory aspects of gaming. These courses give students an overview of the industry, as well as provide the specific management skills required by employers.
The program integrates a strong business component, including six core classes such as accounting, statistics, human resources, and ethics.
Ten general education classes that include courses in the humanities, the social sciences, math and science complete the program requirements.
"The rapid growth we have seen in the gaming industry has created a strong demand for industry professionals who understand the intricate demands of the gaming environment," said Gibbs College president Wynn Blanton. "Graduates of our program will receive broad and in-depth academic training to prepare them for supervisory roles in gaming establishments."
Gibbs College is developing an Advisory Board for the program, whose responsibilities will include ensuring that the concentration curriculum remains current with industry trends, initiating program enhancements, and serving as the school's liaison to the casino/hospitality industry (http://www. gibbsri. edu/programs/casino-concentration. asp).
