The walls of the 120-year-old Luckenbach Dance Hall will tremble again in January with the music that 33 years ago put the tiny hamlet west of Austin on the map when a roster of new Texas singer-songwriters and musicians plays during a two-night session to record the songs for a Palo Duro Records Luckenbach Texas Music Series release called ¡VIVA! ¡TERLINGUA! ¡NUEVO! — SONGS FROM LUCKENBACH.
Scheduled to perform January 19 and 20 the songs “Up Against the Wall (Redneck Mother),” “London Homesick Blues,” “Sangria Wine,” “Getting’ By,” “What I Like About Texas” and more are Jimmy LaFave, Cory Morrow, Two Tons of Steel, Ed Burleson, Brian Burns, The McKay Brothers, Morrison-Williams, Walt Wilkins, Tommy and Justin Alverson, The Derailers, and, as usual at Luckenbach, a few “Special Surprised Guests.” A house band of past and present members of The Lost Gonzo Band, Gonzo Bandito Band and Gonzo Compadres will join in.
Each of 400 Texas music lovers will win the opportunity to buy two tickets each for the 1973 price of $1 (with proceeds going to Health Alliance for Austin Musicians) and be in the audience for one of two of the historical recording sessions. Winners of a ticket lottery held by the Village of Luckenbach, Texas, and Palo Duro Records through January 4 will get to attend only one of the two shows and must be prepared to attend either night (no switching between nights). Two hundred names (400 total tickets) will be drawn for January 19, and 200 names will be drawn for January 20. To sign up for the ticket lottery (through January 4), go to www. luckenbachtexas. com/lottery (http://www. luckenbachtexas. com/lottery).
¡VIVA! ¡TERLINGUA! ¡NUEVO! — SONGS FROM LUCKENBACH, being co-produced by Wilkins and Tommy Alverson, is the first project by Palo Duro Records in its plans to produce, market and distribute CD and DVD releases, and host special events, for an exclusive music series to feature Luckenbach and its impact on country music — including the hit that touched millions of people around the world, Waylon Jennings’
“Luckenbach Texas (Back to the Basics).”
Palo Duro Records (“Country Music, Texas Spirit”) continues to live up to its original mission, one planted deep in Lone Star soil — to release the best of Texas-made music in a way that reflects the authenticity of its artists — while growing a thoughtful, balanced roster of quality acts. The music it releases is heard on radio stations from Austin to Boston to London and beyond, answering the demand for the Palo Duro sound by music lovers around the world.
