The National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) and Aquatics International will present the National Aquatic Conference & Exposition (NAC), Feb. 16-19, 2011, at the Bahia Resort Hotel in San Diego, Calif.

Keynoting the Opening General Session on Thursday, Feb. 17, is Cullen Jones—a member of the Gold Medal-winning men’s 4x100-meter freestyle relay team at the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics, and the first African American to hold a long-course meters swimming world record. Jones will discuss drowning prevention and seeks to ensure that more children learn to swim, especially in underserved urban communities.

During the Closing Luncheon on Saturday, Feb. 19, three-time U. S. Paralympic swimmer and 14-time Gold Medalist Erin Popovich will speak on her life experience as a person with a disability and how she became one of the greatest athletes in the history of the United States Olympic Committee by utilizing local community programs.

NAC is the premiere educational event for aquatics professionals in the U. S., providing four days of peer-reviewed educational programming, a trade show, and networking events for professionals in all areas of aquatics and aquatic recreation.

NAC educational sessions include: Staff Training and Management; Programming, Special Events and Marketing; Technical, Maintenance, Operation and Design; Beaches, Water Parks, Liability and Safety; and Professional Development and Leadership Skills. Attendees will have the opportunity to network on the water on Feb. 18, during a Boat Cruise Evening Social on the William D. Evans, a “Turn of the century,” Mississippi-style sternwheeler.

Also taking place in conjunction with NAC are specialized sessions of the National Aquatic Management School (NAMS), a three-year blended-learning (online and classroom) program designed to progressively educate aquatic professionals in the pool, waterpark and beach industries. NAMS faculty include some of the industry’s foremost experts in aquatic management.
