Fawcett Marks Milestone With Television Ads
TV ads are the first ever for a Democratic candidate in CD-5.

Symbolizing the growing momentum of his campaign, Jay Fawcett, candidate for Colorado’s 5th Congressional district, today released a new television advertisement – the first ever for a Democratic candidate in the district.
The ad, titled “Honor Bound,” lays out the stark contrast between Fawcett, a decorated veteran of the Gulf War, and his opponent Doug Lamborn, on veterans issues. The ad will run with broad frequency on several Colorado Springs stations.
Fawcett, who earned a Bronze Star for his service in the first Gulf War, has called for mandatory full funding of the Veterans Administration. He also supports passage of a 21st century GI Bill, and a bill providing and guaranteeing full Health Coverage for National Guard and Reserve personnel. Fawcett has been endorsed by numerous veteran’s groups and leaders, including The Veterans and Military Families for Progress, VetPAC, The Retired Enlisted Association Senior Citizens League, Congressman Lane Evans, ranking Democrat on the House Veterans Affairs Committee, Gen Hugh Shelton, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Wesley Clark, Sen. Max Cleland and numerous other brothers-in-arms.
On the other hand, Sen. Lamborn did not serve in the military. Lamborn also received a note from embattled House Speaker Dennis Hastert, which stated that Hastert would try to get Lamborn a seat on the House Armed Services Committee. Hastert is currently the focus of inquiries regarding why House leaders failed to take action to protect teenage pages in the U. S. House of Representatives after they had learned of a series of inappropriate emails that former Rep. Mark Foley (R-FL) sent to a page.
Fawcett’s campaign continues to draw growing interest from local and national observers.
Under the headline, “5th District No Longer Safe for GOP,” Congressional Quarterly’s CQPolitics. com revised its ranking of CD5 from Republican Safe to Republican Favored this week and reported that “serious resentment” among Republicans continues to dog Republican candidate Doug Lamborn, making the CD-5 election a horse race.
Last week, The National Journal’s widely-watched Hotline publication also focused on CD-5, elevating the race to one of its top 50 House races to watch in its 2006 House Race Rankings.
“We are attracting massive national attention in this race,” said Wanda James, Fawcett’s campaign manager. “Jay is clearly the candidate who republicans, democrats and independents are supporting in CD5.”

Colorado Springs resident Jay Fawcett is a graduate, former professor, and a former headquarters’ squadron commander of the Air Force Academy. He was deployed in the first Gulf War serving in Desert Shield and the initial helicopter assault into Iraq during Desert Storm. Fawcett was awarded a Bronze Star for his actions.
