Emerson Network Power, a business of Emerson and the global leader in enabling Business-Critical Continuity™, announced today that it has expanded its NTS line of 500W digitally controlled power supplies with the addition of the NTS505 and NTS508. Intended primarily as medium power front-end units for distributed power systems, NTS500 series AC-DC power supplies offer original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) unmatched power density in a compact 4 x 7 inch footprint.

Small in physical size but designed to ensure high functionality, NTS500 series AC-DC power supplies are particularly suitable for use in information technology equipment (ITE) and light industrial systems. The power supplies are also available with medical approvals (NTS500-M series), for applications such as patient monitoring systems and portable medical equipment.

NTS505 and NTS508 AC-DC power supplies generate a tightly regulated 24V and 48V output, respectively, that can be used to directly power boards fitted with multiple non-isolated DC-DC converters. The convection-cooled models have an output of 200 W and a height of just 1.5 inches, making them ideal for 1U (1.75 inch high) rack-mount chassis and other low-profile applications, while the fan-cooled versions can deliver their full rated output of 500 W up to 50 °C with 30 CFM forced air. Both versions accommodate a flexible ambient operating temperature range of 0 ˚C to 70 ˚C to ensure reliability for a wide range of demanding applications.

To enable their use in equipment destined for any part of the world, NTS500 series power supplies feature a universal input that accepts any voltage in the range 85 to 264 Vac at any frequency from 47 to 440 Hz. The power supplies also employ the latest high frequency switch-mode technology to maximize conversion efficiency, typically achieving 85 percent at full load with a nominal 115 Vac input.

Digitally controlled via a PMBus™-compliant I2C interface, NTS500 series power supplies support the monitoring of critical parameters such as temperature, output voltage and current. In addition, they feature 'AC power fail' and 'DC OK' output signals and a remote on/off input. As an added measure to ensure industry-leading power continuity, all power supplies within the series also provide comprehensive protections against overvoltage, short-circuit and over temperature conditions.

NTS500 series AC-DC power supplies are rigorously tested and designed to comply with EN55022-B and FCC part 15 Level B EMC standards for conducted noise and meet all applicable immunity standards, including EN61000-4-2, -3, -4, -5, -6 and -11 levels 3. The power supplies also carry UL/cUL60950-1 and EN60950-1 VDE safety approvals, and medical versions are certified according to UL/cUL60601-1 and VDE EN60601-1 specifications.

Sample quantities of NTS505 and NTS508 AC-DC power supplies, including models with medical approvals are available for immediate delivery. Pricing starts at $299 for the ITE/industrial models and $325 for the medical models in production quantities.
