Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame to Hold 2nd Annual Induction Ceremony - April 8, 2005
The Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame will hold its 2nd annual induction ceremony on April 8, 2005 at the Sheraton Society Hill. The event will include a silent auction and cocktail reception beginning at 5:30 p. m., followed by dinner and the induction ceremony. The Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame will hold its 2nd annual induction ceremony on April 8, 2005 at the Sheraton Society Hill. The Hall is dedicated to honoring individuals, teams, events, organizations, and venues prominent in the history of athletics in Philadelphia and the surrounding area. Each year this non-profit organization holds its induction ceremony, which also serves as its major fundraiser. This yearÂs event will honor 19 Inductees and the 2004 Pride of Philadelphia Award winners. Confirmed attendees from this yearÂs class of Inductees include: Tommy McDonald, Ed Snider, John Chaney, Jay Sigel, Vic Seixas, Bob Levy, Harvey Pollack and Bill Campbell along with members of the 1954 LaSalle NCAA MenÂs Basketball Champions, the first team inducted into the Hall of Fame. Other members of the Induction class include Charles Barkley, Carl Lewis, Cathy Rush, Guy Rodgers, James ÂJumbo Elliott, Pete Pihos, Lefty Grove, Eddie Gottlieb and Grover Cleveland Alexander.
The Hall of FameÂs inaugural Pride of Philadelphia Award winners are Bernard Hopkins, the 2003-2004 St. JosephÂs University MenÂs Basketball Team and Team Smarty Jones.
ÂWe are very excited about this yearÂs event, said Ken Avallon, President of the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame. ÂWith so many sports legends in attendance, the ceremony will be even bigger and better than last year, he continued, Âand is a must for any Philadelphia sports fan.Â
Also attending from last yearÂs Charter Class will be Hall of Famers Bob Clarke, Joe Frazier, Chuck Bednarik, Paul Arizin and Sonny Hill.
The ceremony will feature Pat Williams, former 76er General Manager and current Senior VP for the Orlando Magic, as the Master of Ceremonies. The special guest speaker will be Phil Martelli, head basketball coach of the St. JosephÂs Hawks.
