The H-net. org posted annoucements on Black folklore based on Zora Neale Hurstong's research represents an aspect of May as National Black Health and Fitness Month.
In the 80's there were 3 conferences on the ROOTS conferences organized by founding president Cassandra M. Wimbs. They were named the Traditional Healing Systems of the African Diaspora, Traditional Medicine of the AFrican Diaspora and Traditional Music of the African Disapora.
This was accompanied by a thesis on AFrican American Beliefs, theory and Practices. Zora Neale Hurston established the African Connection with her HIgh John the Conquror tales. And also books such as Mules and Men. She said that the Bible was the best conja ( an AFrican word meaning healer/priest).
In the Bible are healing prayers and pslams and herbs. This is characteristic in the Diaspora. Such as pslam 41 and james 5: 13.
So as a research action for National Black Health and Fitness Month visit h-net. org and view the posts on Hurston's work and Ms. Wimbs' research.
