Planning ahead has paid big dividends to Linda Hinogiante, a second-year nursing student at Pima Medical Institute, 957 S. Dobson Road in Mesa. Hinogiante is the recipient of an all expenses paid trip to Boston, Massachusetts to attend the July 2008 National Association of Hispanic Nurses (NAHN) convention.

Hinogiante said her participation in the PMI Student Nurses' Association started her thinking about other professional nursing organization. She learned of one organization and started attending the meetings. Much to her surprise, she was the only nursing student in attendance. Her foresight to join the organization proved even more valuable when she learned she was the local NAHN chapter's sole recipient of the all-expenses trip.

"I found that being a part of the National Association of Hispanic Nurses was a wonderful networking opportunity," said Hinogiante. "I have become acquainted with a diverse group of nurses who range from staff nurses and nurse practitioners to university professors. Being able to talk to them about their profession has been very inspiring. And of course I'm really looking forward to attending the national convention in July."

The nursing student started her health career journey by attending PMI's Respiratory Therapy program in Tucson. When she decided to pursue her associate degree in nursing, PMI was her first choice. Hinogiante said it can be challenging to balance work, school, family and her participation in professional association commitments, but with proper planning it can be done.
