The Bair Foundation's New Structured Intervention Model Positively Impacting Foster Youth Outcomes

The Bair Foundation has recently developed a new treatment model to enhance the effectiveness of services to foster children and teens and to promote positive outcomes.

The crucial need of foster families to understand the emotional and behavioral issues of children in therapeutic foster care is the impetus for The Bair Foundation’s development of a more formalized and more structured treatment model. As a result, The Bair Foundation developed the Structured Intervention Treatment Foster Care Model. The SITFC model is driven by seven core principles.

The core principles include the following: (1) The Foster Parent is the principle agent of change in a child’s life. (2) Strong Relationships are extremely important for successful outcomes and are built through solid commitment in the face of extraordinary challenges. (3) Foster Parents and staff must be trained so they are prepared to work effectively with children who have been exposed to trauma. (4) All behavior has purpose; looking behind behavior to identify that purpose offers an excellent chance to facilitate change through addressing the root cause. (5) Children who are more resilient have the ability to not only survive but to thrive, even when faced with adversity. (6) Every child deserves to have the opportunity for a successful transition to independence. (7) Forgiveness is imperative for having healthy relationships and healthy lives.

Guided by these core principles, we are better able to impact those factors related to achieving positive outcomes for children in treatment foster care. Using a compilation of strategies, practices and skills, the SITFC Model will enhance the efforts of both staff and foster parents to provide high quality effective services to children served by the Bair Foundation. This will be accomplished through a comprehensive intake process which will match the child to the family best suited to meet the child’s needs. Individualized treatment plans and specialized training will allow staff and families to assist the child in managing their life situation, with an emphasis on providing a stable placement for the child.
